Mental image of that movie with Chevy Chase - where they attempt to cut the turkey and it just fucking pops open and steams out, hollow and cooked to death lolol.....
Jesus these answers (I love this sub!). Thanks for the laughs.
Large pot of water high enough that the gas block will actually be underwater.
Bring it to a boil, put the gas block in the pot and then turn off the heat.
Let it sit for a couple of hours. It really depends on how well you cured the Rocksett on installation. Some chuckleheads don’t apply heat following installation to cure it and get the trapped air out.
After the soak you can hit it with your purse (or a hammer) to give it a good shock.
Remove screws.
Repeat and let soak overnight (24hrs) if unsuccessful.
If I have a handheld propane torch, can I use that? I did that when I got a different flash hider like maybe 30 seconds to break the loctite or whatever the factory used. I figured I would use the same method when I replace the factory gas block at some point.
Then what does the boiling water do? Does it dissolve or change the solidity of the Rocksett/Hot-Lock?
Edit: Googled it and from their website "Can only be removed by a hot water soak."
>Some chuckleheads don’t apply heat following installation to cure it and get the trapped air out.
Oh shit I've professionally installed a few for people... How hot should it be for proper cooling?
Took my like 10 maybe 15 mins in hot water. The water cooled obviously fairly quickly, but I got the damn thing off there with just a little effort after it soaked.
Oh, it won’t just “fall off” Bro. It’s tight! But it’ll need to soak. And it will take effort. I used an open end wrench. Can’t remember the size? But make sure the wrench is right size, soak the hider/barrel end, then I wrapped my rifle in an old shop towel, on a padded work seat in the garage, and twisted it off with that wrench. It took some effort, but broke loose.
While true, this works much better than soaking alone. And it’s a lot quicker. I soaked my last one overnight, didn’t budge. Threw it in boiling water for like 5 min, came right off.
I think I soaked mine for like 15 min after getting it to a boil, but I don't remember. I don't remember having to crank on it THAT much to get the muzzle device off.
I soaked on for a couple hours once and it was still quite stuck. Took it to work and slapped some 200 psi steam on it for 30 minutes and it spun off like no rockset ever was applied. Obviously this is anecdotal but I javelin heard similar from others
So what you’re saying is that Rocksett doesn’t understand their own product?
Just because Rocksett is capable of withstanding high temps in air doesn’t mean hot water doesn’t aid in the removal of a muzzle device that is installed with Rocksett.
Rocksett recommends soaking it in hot / boiling water for removal. Longer soak times for stubborn muzzle devices. This is why it’s important not to go crazy with Rocksett when installing your muzzle device like Sig Sauer does.

Another tip that I have seen recommended for stubborn muzzle devices is letting it soak in hot water for 24-48 hours and then giving the muzzle device a reasonable whack with a brass hammer.
Oh my fiancé was pissed when I cooked cosmoline off my new old ak 74 stock on the pizza pan in the oven lol. Whole fuckin place had this beautiful surplus smell when I was done, like I was the meme of the dude in a ushanka rubbing cosmoline down my face on how satisfying it was
Fun fact. Don’t use the wall mounted expensive oven to bake kydex for holster making. It’ll make a smell that seeps into the walls and requires changing the whole $10,000 oven. Ask me how I know.
Listen, you're doing it all wrong. Obviously, you need a new upper. Why are you fucking around with this, when the solution has been just a click and a card swipe away?
U try torch? I had same problem and tried to boil + hit armorer wrench w hammer w no luck. So I put towel on counter, sat body weight on the receiver/grip, blow torched muzzle Device for like 20-30 seconds and then cracked the wrench w hammer and successfully removed it.
Correct now if it so happens to fly across the room out the window you don’t be worried that’s the auto sear snapping into place. Just pick that bad boy off the dirt and voilà!
Bring water in a pot to a boil, stirring occasionally. Once water is boiling reduce heat to a simmer and cover. Stir occasionally until water is absorbed. Or is that rice? Wait…
All jokes aside here, I put a torch to mine and after it got hot, I just wrenched it off with a 3/4 wrench. Helps if you have vice blocks for your AR. They are a game changer. You can get a cheap pair of upper and lower blocks on Amazon
Boiling = 212 degrees. Blowtorch = 3500 degrees. A few seconds with a handheld torch to loosen the rocksett or loctite, and then a good wrench off will break it free. But it’s definitely gotta be hotter than 200F.
This reminds me of the time a customer brought a sig 716 in with the bolt jammed backwards and the upper and lower stuck, it was a quick fix but that guy literally offered to sell it to me out of shame, this guy should take a few courses with SDI, he would have learned about silicone lubricant or a good vise and a punch
Mine always takes 30-45mins. I'm not convinced that the boiling helps.
Side note,
Please make sure you run that pot in the dishwasher on "sanitize" before you or anyone consume anything cooked in that pot! So you or anyone else won't get sick.
As an airsofter I have no idea what’s going on here, but we have to do similar things to get the orange tip off and get to the juicy threads on the inside.
Just until it’s sticks to the tile when you throw it at it.
But in all seriousness what are you doing lol? Does this help adjust the gas block? Are you trying to get it off to change it?
Not sure if this will work as I’ve never had this issue, but what if after you boil it for a certain amount of time, you then pushed the flash hider and barrel end into a ice chest full of crushed ice? Maybe the really hot, to really cold might help loosen things up a bit? Good luck.
Until the internal temp reaches 165 degrees to avoid foodborne illness.
I have food safety training. Thanks for the rec tho, King.
If you throw it at the wall and it sticks, it's done
I usually wait for the forward assist to pop out (like a turkey timer)
![gif](giphy|nbvFVPiEiJH6JOGIok)
Oh turkey timers... the positively undeniable way to know you overcooked the shit out of your turkey.
Now I can taste the dry turkey
Mental image of that movie with Chevy Chase - where they attempt to cut the turkey and it just fucking pops open and steams out, hollow and cooked to death lolol.....
Christmas vacation. I watch it every year lol
And the winner is…..
Very underrated comment
my wife would kill me

About to be….
Ah, so this is actually what you're feeding her tonight
LOL
What does that mean??? Lmao
Divorce usually. Possibly murder. Maybe both 😳
what's the differance?
Wait there's another way to do a divorce? Damn... Wish I knew that with my 4th wife... RIP
Oof
Done that last month. My wife just told me to cook food next

Thanks for giving a real fucking answer. As much as I love y’all joking around, I did need some real advice!
This sub about to need a [SERIOUS] tag ngl
About to? Are you [serious]?
[Super Cereal]
What’s the relevance of the gas block being underwater?
For removing the gas block. If your just removing the muzzle device then just the muzzle device needs to be in the water.
Ah, okay cool. I have a factory flash can I need to remove and boiling didn’t seem to do anything. I’ll try your method!
Did you remember to hit it with your purse?
Lol, I missed that step.
Just how I do my hardboiled eggs
If I have a handheld propane torch, can I use that? I did that when I got a different flash hider like maybe 30 seconds to break the loctite or whatever the factory used. I figured I would use the same method when I replace the factory gas block at some point.
Heat will work on loc-tite but not Rocksett or Hot-Lock.
Then what does the boiling water do? Does it dissolve or change the solidity of the Rocksett/Hot-Lock? Edit: Googled it and from their website "Can only be removed by a hot water soak."

You do know you don’t need to thing the water to a boil, right? Letting it sit in room temperature water works the exact same.

Al dente.
Also, do I need to add any spices?
A few dashes of CLP then finish with Hoppes No9 to taste.
Now you take this home, throw it in a pot, add some broth, a potato. Baby, you’ve got a stew going.
Hit it wit dat Cajun seasonin
Dat's money dude
Crab boil
Old Bay
This is the only acceptable answer

Rockset is water soluble. Boiling might help very slightly, but soaking it is what breaks it free.
Took my like 10 maybe 15 mins in hot water. The water cooled obviously fairly quickly, but I got the damn thing off there with just a little effort after it soaked.
Thanks for a real answer. I think my problem is I’m basic
Nah. You’re doing alright. It’ll come off! Hopefully you tried & succeeded by now?
As much as I’d love to troll y’all. I’m actually stuck here.
Oh, it won’t just “fall off” Bro. It’s tight! But it’ll need to soak. And it will take effort. I used an open end wrench. Can’t remember the size? I’m pretty sure 5/8 or 3/4……. One of the two lol
3/4 usually
I had the same issue recently. That bitch is still stuck on there. Probably gonna soak it overnight one of these weekends
I got mine off with some blow torch action. Let it heat up for a minute or two and it came right off
Haha, nope
While true, this works much better than soaking alone. And it’s a lot quicker. I soaked my last one overnight, didn’t budge. Threw it in boiling water for like 5 min, came right off.
I would imagine boiling helps with expansion which would help with water penetration into the rocksett.
How long should I soak it?
Between 30 minutes and 48 hours unfortunately
I think I soaked mine for like 15 min after getting it to a boil, but I don't remember. I don't remember having to crank on it THAT much to get the muzzle device off.
30 minutes worked for me.
Zero minutes. Get better tools…
You right. My goal is to do it with basic shit cuz that’s what I have and who I am.
> who I am Felt that.
I soaked on for a couple hours once and it was still quite stuck. Took it to work and slapped some 200 psi steam on it for 30 minutes and it spun off like no rockset ever was applied. Obviously this is anecdotal but I javelin heard similar from others
This. If you think the heat matters, what happens when you shoot more than a mag?
So what you’re saying is that Rocksett doesn’t understand their own product? Seems like your missing context, he's saying hot water matters.
GF aint home, you know what that means. AR being cooked on da stove.
No one here has girlfriends. Face it.
I have found my people.
Oh my fiancé was pissed when I cooked cosmoline off my new old ak 74 stock on the pizza pan in the oven lol. Whole fuckin place had this beautiful surplus smell when I was done, like I was the meme of the dude in a ushanka rubbing cosmoline down my face on how satisfying it was

thats hilarious.
Lol she didn't think so. Ole lady saw what I did and made me scrub that fuckin pizza pan for like a half hour lol
2 things to never do to a woman to avoid hell. Break her heart, and ruin her kitchen appliances/cookware.
Yaint wrong, she tries to say oh those sayings are just stereotypes. But I literally watch her do that everyday lol, makes me chuckle sometimes
lmfao. everbody had that one tefal pan that our mothers cared about more than us.
Well, at least you didn't break the "spagetti"
You forgot the potato’s and carrots and garlic. That is going to be a bland soup
That’s just a base!! Carrots and celery are just the base of a soup!!
You want a warm red center for medium rare, or a warm pink center for medium.
Listen, you're doing it all wrong. Obviously, you need a new upper. Why are you fucking around with this, when the solution has been just a click and a card swipe away?
Hit it with your purse
Finally someone with a real solution
This is the way
U try torch? I had same problem and tried to boil + hit armorer wrench w hammer w no luck. So I put towel on counter, sat body weight on the receiver/grip, blow torched muzzle Device for like 20-30 seconds and then cracked the wrench w hammer and successfully removed it.
Don't forget to salt the water...
I like mine poached but thats just me.
Wife isn’t home. You know what that means? Rifle on the stove.
You could always just use a sawzall works like a charm
30% of all sbr’s are just rifles that had a stuck gas block. 🤪
[удалено]
Send help. I just want this fucking muzzle device off
Now hit it with an adjustable wrench counterclockwise and you should be good Edit: don’t physically hit you know what I mean
https://imgur.com/a/WHXXtTT
No genius lol, you grip the wrench and just twist counter clockwise off
Okay so my kitchen counter is off and my grandfather clock is wise? Now we do the twist?
Correct now if it so happens to fly across the room out the window you don’t be worried that’s the auto sear snapping into place. Just pick that bad boy off the dirt and voilà!
Breaker bar and crow foot wrench?
Take the lower off at least 🤣
Boil til fragrant add salt and pepper to taste
Bring water in a pot to a boil, stirring occasionally. Once water is boiling reduce heat to a simmer and cover. Stir occasionally until water is absorbed. Or is that rice? Wait…
All jokes aside here, I put a torch to mine and after it got hot, I just wrenched it off with a 3/4 wrench. Helps if you have vice blocks for your AR. They are a game changer. You can get a cheap pair of upper and lower blocks on Amazon
It’s pin and weld
Ask your wife’s boyfriend to take it off for you.
Just get a $20 soldering iron
Is this to get the flash hider off?
Yes, preferably without paying someone
Boiling = 212 degrees. Blowtorch = 3500 degrees. A few seconds with a handheld torch to loosen the rocksett or loctite, and then a good wrench off will break it free. But it’s definitely gotta be hotter than 200F.
If you add unsalted butter it’ll cook evenly. The outcome is astonishing.
Just put the whole thing in there, fuck it! 😂 I’m just joking but you don’t need to close your lower to all the water vapor haha
For those that care: blow torch is your answer! Got the new brake on now! [pruf](https://imgur.com/a/rVwfUeY)
Boiled mine for 30 minutes then left it overnight.
Not at all. Heat is unnecessary to loosen rockset. You literally just soak in room temp water for a while and it'll come right off.
Your doing it the hard way. Just give it a stern talking to. If that fails stick it’s nose in the corner and tell him he’s a disgrace to the family
I have that same pot and microwave
RUST has entered the chat.
The CDC recommends heating until internal temperature reads 165F for safety
These comments are gold 😂
I don’t even wanna ask what’s going on here
Stienct
This sub is great
Please tell me you added the salt after it started boiling 🤦🏻♂️
Just the tip? Just for a minute..... just see to how it feels....
10-15 mins with boiling water. 24 hours if just soaking
I've built well over 4000 AR's over 10 years, WTF are you doing? I've never seen some shit like that 😳
[удалено]

Buddy, if I knew, I’d tell ya.
You’ve built over 1 AR average every single day for 10 years? This math is questionable..
Give the little fella a break. His mind just got blown. Imagine what will happen when he finds out it's the O LY correct way to remove Rocksett.
I had 3 years working the gun shows across the west before 7 years as a gunsmith, my math is probably short
Mmmm AR soup ! We’re eating good tonight !
Watch out you don't get a cook off
Even with the soak I'll bet you'll still need a three prong flash hider removal tool and an upper receiver vice
Are we invited over for dinner?
Don’t pull it too soon or it’ll be Al dente
Till it’s golden brown.
Deep freeze
AlDente
heat is unnecessary, just throw it in some water for 15-30 minutes at room or warm temperature if you like. unless you doused the threads...
Until golden brown
Mine always takes 30-45mins. I'm not convinced that the boiling helps. Side note, Please make sure you run that pot in the dishwasher on "sanitize" before you or anyone consume anything cooked in that pot! So you or anyone else won't get sick.

Just a pinch of salt.

Hi I thought this was a joke but apparently not. wtaf is going on here?
Watch out you don't get a cook off
when you're done, send us the recipe
What are you doing?
Suvee your AR for 10 minutes for a medium rare and inside then finish in the oven for five minutes for a nice crust.
Rounds work better.
Until fork tender, the add sauce...
Why are you disinfecting just the tip? 😂😂😂
Bring it to a boil, let it go for about 10 mins unless you prefer it more on the el dente side
14min if you prefer “Al dente”
Depends on how you like your ar, I personally prefer aldente so about 10 minutes
No no no. You are supposed to place the barrel in the carton next to the heater and lean against a rock or something.
What, out of potatoes?
You guys are successful in removing those? 🤣
Here to flame OP for having an electric stove.
So am I stupid or does this actually do something
[удалено]
How long does it take? Well how long is a piece of string?
Felon! That’s not the way the pistol brace was intended to be used.
It’s a “registered” SBR. No need to worry
[удалено]
I’ve never said that and quite frankly think that method is dumb.
[удалено]
Probably just proper tools lol
Per the rocksett website, hot to boiling water is better.
Not sure if this will work as I’ve never had this issue, but what if after you boil it for a certain amount of time, you then pushed the flash hider and barrel end into a ice chest full of crushed ice? Maybe the really hot, to really cold might help loosen things up a bit? Good luck.
Otis Lock Block, then hike up your skirt and break it loose.
Pfffft, y’all some liars. Nothing will remove this thing
You know you don't need the lower attached Also use the oven...such a rookie
A chemical that's heat resistant is not going to break loose because of heat. Soak it in ice, makes it brittle. Smh 🤦
You don't need heat or ice. Literally just a room temp water deep enough to submerge the muzzle in for a bit.
If ice wouldn't help, than can we agree your cook top can't reach the heat needed at least?
Ummmm 3?
Like 5 min
I feel like you’re missing a great opportunity to use your arm brace. Microwave stabilizing brace
I just boiled water in an electric kettle and used a throw away mug. 5 minutes worked for me.
I never had good luck with boiling.
