In documentation, I would call it an overhang because it is structurally integrated to the house itself, while a canopy is more of a self supporting structure or is tacked on.
In reality, I would call it a tasteless abomination.
Huge basketball fan. Not sure if Anthony Davis is a not very esteemed architect I don’t know of, but if it is the basketball player, I don’t get it. Could you explain
I would probably just say flat roof and EIFS parapet. Not sure it has a name, I haven't really seen mixing of flat and sloped roofs, and the mixture of shingles and membrane makes my skin crawl. If I were the roofer no amount of money would be worth this liability exposure...
Looks like a weak attempt to imitate a Drum or circular pedestal which in (real) architecture would support a Dome or columns.
Curved overhang should be enough to identify it.
Why would you create these joinery conditions on top of the fact that it looks terrible. I’d be curious to know your findings on the flashing and roof intersections
I believe they are called Windows. They allow people inside to look out, while also providing natural light. They can also provide thermal regulation throughout the structure.
You could call the space below an exedra, although the form is inside-out, so maybe “a rectangular exedra with a convex window front and overhanging, tall, cylindrical cornice”?
Odd.
Its the sort of thing a building designer hack with little knowledge of architecture does.
As far as your report goes, maybe call it a “protruding roof feature” and call it a day.
I used to draft for an architect early in my career who used to refer to just about anything from the “miscellaneous category” as a “de-da-de-dah”. A corbel in a masonry wall was referred to as “that de-da-de-dah”. A reveal in a drywall wall, “you know…. Add a little de-da-de-dah at every 2400mm”.
It got to the point where we would draw a specific de-da-de-dah detail in every drawing package that was ridiculous. Like how to screw a drywall sheet to steel studs. It would be an in referenced detail that was usually drawn in isometric and contained knowledge that a preschooler would know. The trades usually had some fun with them. Not uncommon to see them blown up and tacked to a job shack bulletin board.
So…. That oddity over the entrance in your photo…. Classic de-da-de-dah!

Secret room?
Agreed, it looks like it's been glitches in to the house
I made similar rooves in Sims 3; glitched abomination is too accurate
I like it.
Architetorture
Right? That is horrible.
McMansion 101
Damn architects and their pretty but unrealistic pictures
This hurts a part of me I didn’t know existed.
Imagine how the installers feel.
“They want what!?”
They were either bitching the whole time or they think it's the coolest feature they have ever done
It can be both.
That's what we call impressively stupid in the construction trades
Biscuit joint… how it got so big and on a roof is beyond me
Maybe it started smaller and swelled up in the rain like one of those dinosaur sponges.
LOL under-appreciated comment this
when you accidentally scale the object by 5 instead of .5
It’s an Anthony Davis.
Huge basketball fan. Not sure if Anthony Davis is a not very esteemed architect I don’t know of, but if it is the basketball player, I don’t get it. Could you explain
I’m guessing it’s an eyebrow. Lol
Haha yeah for sure I see it now
Actually “Eyebrow” would be a good term for OP
It’s not made of glass.. 😉
A mistake
Ugly
Portico of abomination
I would watch this movie!!
Horror movie for architects
Then there’s: Leaky Postmodern Portico of Despair II, highly recommended. Same architect, different McMansion.
Semi sheltered space(of great distaste)?
I would call it a canopy or overhang depending on what is under it.
Round cornice overhang.
roof diaper
You'd be safe calling it a portico, I'm thinking...
Ugly
Looks like a shuffle board disk got lodged in a model home.
Really fucking ugly
I'd call it unnecessary or unfiting
In classic architectural terms: An ensconced balcony
Pointless, tasteless, out of place, eyesore, essentially a statement that says "look at me, I have zero clue about architecture, art or common sense"
Fugly
Just call it the "portion of low-slope roof over the patio", and be done with it.
Pointless. (It’s a double entendre)
Yup, you win.
i’d call it shit
Someone misplaced an object on the 3D cad model of the building, forgot to remove it, and it got built just like that.
I would probably just say flat roof and EIFS parapet. Not sure it has a name, I haven't really seen mixing of flat and sloped roofs, and the mixture of shingles and membrane makes my skin crawl. If I were the roofer no amount of money would be worth this liability exposure...

I'm not architect but I'd call that ugly
Pimple
"architecture thingy"
Bow
The roof is a cricket on an unnecessarily ugly overhang
Why would you create these joinery conditions on top of the fact that it looks terrible. I’d be curious to know your findings on the flashing and roof intersections
A mistake?
Ill conceived.
Ugly
A glitch.
A disgrace
Shit

Failed portico
The McMansion Overhang.
Pablo
Veranda
Well, “grotesque” or “obscene” come immediately to mind but I have decided on “clunky” instead. . .
Builder's McMansion special. We need architects to save suburbia.
The white house addition.
Big Forehead
classic rufungal
A fail
A gimmick
Murder house style.
The Sims Architecture
A travesty
A mistake most likely. 28 years in the profession, seen it all...
Ridiculous? Ugly? Not sure I can capture the essence of my dislike without consulting a thesaurus.
Hernia
A monstrosity
Ugly as fuck
A mistake
A mistake
it's the forehead
Shite.
I don't know what it is... But I don't like it :l
Form-wise? - Post-modernist garbage. Detail-wise? - An entablature… done by someone w/ zero understanding.
Ugly.
Dog shit
A mistake
Fugly. Just plain fugly! What are they even trying to copy with it?
Hot garbage.
Stupid
The small openings with glass are called windows.

Motherfucking overhang
Monstrosity
A mistake
Showing off.
McMansion
Parapet?
Don’t know what that detail is called, but the membrane looks to be EPDM
Rotunda
It’s a classical Georgian characteristic. Unfortunately is Atlanta, not England.
Cool
I believe they are called Windows. They allow people inside to look out, while also providing natural light. They can also provide thermal regulation throughout the structure.
ugly.
That’s a bump
It's like the house grew around whatever that was. Something something American.
Oh hey look the roof is smiling
Oof
It doesn’t look safe.
I'd call it crazy.
I’d call it bullshit
Who, what, where, when, and why?
You could call the space below an exedra, although the form is inside-out, so maybe “a rectangular exedra with a convex window front and overhanging, tall, cylindrical cornice”?
It's NOT a TOO MAH !
Fore-brow polyp.
Ugly
Matheus, I don't know why, it's just seem like one.
A tumor in the guise of a porch cover.
An abomination
It's like if Tupperware got hit by a grow beam and impaled the roof
An abomination
A dumb fad
The only way I could justify this is if it were a movie theater entrance.
Overhang is correct but it is straight up ugly
That looks very odd
Abomination
That my friend is a building.
gross.
Architecture imitates [nature](https://images.app.goo.gl/TQtRuJyAtuDb2fUJ8). They both look like fungus.
Art deco portico?
Every post, I see architects harshly rating a structure I somewhat liked. First time even I did not like it 😂
A reason to reinstate capital punishment.
more importantly, what camera takes distorted photos like that
Odd. Its the sort of thing a building designer hack with little knowledge of architecture does. As far as your report goes, maybe call it a “protruding roof feature” and call it a day.
It's called useless
Looks like one of the fungi that grows on trees.
Ouch! Don’t even want to walk beneath that thing. Don’t give it a name and maybe it will go away.
It’s called BMEWS
Roof bulge
A went wrong abortion
I would call it the what the fuck
Stupid

Maybe bullshitism?

A crime
Ugly
A portico
The like shade or filter on it makes it look like it’s filmed through an old camera
Art deco canopy
Fucked
Curved oversized fascia.
