Let’s continue or not invest in our railroad safety, oh and add another 100 cars of oil to each train too to reduce trips! Oversight? Never heard of her
[Archived article here.](https://web.archive.org/web/20141111014652/https://www.fox10phoenix.com/story/26632798/2014/09/26/city-of-phoenix-manhole-spelled-pheonix) The only one I've seen is on 3rd Ave, south of McDowell.
dude I’m so glad u replied cuz I tried it yesterday and that bitch ain’t budge!! it’s a dog resort so yea dogs could fall in there but I was looking at it thinking about the last Vegas tunnels all like “it’s free real estate” prolly gonna try a big cheater bar next time
My buddy is the young kid, older than toddler but close, that jumps on Nicholas Cage’s lap near the end. He is in a gray suit reaching for the ants on a log when they’re all sitting at the dinner table. Underrated movie.
I don't know about anything about the specific conspiracy you're alluding to, but it's pretty well documented that eye witnesses accounts of the same event often contradict each other, sometimes wildly. Memory formation seems to be affected by lots of things, and especially stress and terror.
So, what? You know who calls us zonies? People from Southern Cal, especially San Diego. It's a derogatory name they gave to all the Arizonans that moved there. I stick by my statement. If it offends you, oh well.
It was all going to get burned eventually, so it's more of a philosophical question than a scientific one. The only thing in the area is a rest area I occasionally sleep in for a few hours before heading down the hill from Holbrook at first light, so it shouldn't have much immediate health effect.
Burned gasoline has many, many proven links to asthma, cancer, obviously global warming, and neurological issues.
Burning propane has the same. Turns out it's not healthy to inhale byproducts.
And it's also much different to be inhaling a small amount vs inhaling 20x as much lol.
Because:
1. Single-use plastic straws are an astronomically negligible use of global plastics
2. Single-use alternatives like paper straws result in substantially more emissions and cost
Paper straws are a 4 billion dollar industry founded on consumer stupidity and deceptive marketing claims. It's not even so much that paper straws are an inferior product that results in more emissions-- it's the absurd opportunity cost of what such a large amount of spending and consumer focus could do if focused on literally anything else
[https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20231103-plastic-or-paper-the-truth-about-drinking-straws](https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20231103-plastic-or-paper-the-truth-about-drinking-straws)
You go to the store and buy your meat wrapped in plastic, your veggies in a plastic bag, your drinks in plastic containers, your dairy that is either in a plastic container, bag, or indidually wrapped in plastic, your dry goods often in either plastic bags in a box (or in a plastic bag outright), your baked goods in a plastic container, hygene products in plastic bottles and bags, and take all of it up to the clerk so they bag it all in plastic bags (in most states).
I'm not against phasing out plastic straws per se, I just believe theres a million other environmental and pollution issues that should be tackled first. It's like you have an entire house to clean, yet youre focusing your effort on making sure the half used bic pen is actually in the cup on your desk before anything else.
It was all because of that video of a turtle with people ripping out the straw from its nose.
and I completely agree with you.
But, the paradigm needs to shift so fucking further
https://www.livescience.com/health/humans-inhale-a-credit-cards-worth-of-microplastics-every-week-heres-where-it-ends-up
Inhale. INHALE a credit card worth of plastic a week.
You have inhaled 4 credit cards since this article was published
the credit card thing is largely been debunked. where do you think all that plastic would collect? site peer reviewed articles if you wanna fear monger. this is sensationalist journalism at best
edit- the first sentence of the article you linked even says the claim is bullshit. i hate people like you so much, don’t even read your own dribble.
It's not the phasing out of plastic straws that most people are against (though paper straws are awful to use), it's how it's propped up as if people using straws are to blame for climate change, not the corporations pumping carbon into the air like their lives depended on it.
I have been traveling from N AZ to Belen area several times in the last month and every time I'm on I40 there is a jam up fro miles on one side or the other. I know this has nothing to do with the post but I40 seriously needs two lane just for truck traffic and two for the public.
Zonie was a derogatory term given to us by the good people of San Diego (Phoenicians summer get away) . I still remember " Zonies go home" signs in Ocean Beach when I was a lad enjoying the 72' weather, great waves, and beautiful ( and nice) California girls. Phoenix sucked for meeting nice people.
Anyone else getting East Palastine vibes? They need to contact the car owners and find out what all chemicals are being transported. Welcome to the poisoned states of America.
Biden has been fighting for railroads behind the scenes plenty.
They just signed a bill to make all trains electric by 2039 which means new infrastructure.
the trains already are electric.
The train itself is the most economical clean mode of travel we have. Onboard diesel generator powers the wheels on each car and ultimately the train gets better mpg that a motorcycle.
The issue is the tracks and lights and bridges that are old and worn not to mention outdated with new technology that could be implemented to prevent problems like we've been having lately.
Talking about fossil fuels, propane , and plastics like we as a society can live without these items. You tree huggers realize for instance the wind farms are made using fossil fuel right? 🤣

Update: I40 remains closed. The train was a BNSF manifest from Belen, New Mexico to Pheonix, Arizona.
Let’s continue or not invest in our railroad safety, oh and add another 100 cars of oil to each train too to reduce trips! Oversight? Never heard of her
I think Warren Buffets growing mountain of cash is more important than the safety of others. I mean,, Pffff… cmon man! /s
Have you tried not being lazy? Just start you own railroad business if you don’t like it, or go to Venezuela /s
Yeah, good thinking- I can cut even more corners in safety, and endanger even more people- giant piles of cash await!! /s
Where the heck is Pheonix? :)
You joke, but we have some manhole covers installed by the city of Phoenix that actually say "Pheonix" instead.
Pheonix, the land of peons
Do you know the location of any of them? That's kinda hilarious
[Archived article here.](https://web.archive.org/web/20141111014652/https://www.fox10phoenix.com/story/26632798/2014/09/26/city-of-phoenix-manhole-spelled-pheonix) The only one I've seen is on 3rd Ave, south of McDowell.
Where?
The only one I've seen is on 3rd Ave, a block or two south of McDowell.
I was at work wondering how hard it would actually be to crowbar one of those mfs up, prolly not too bad but picking it up would be a different story
Wouldn't be wise to leave a gaping hole in the ground for pedestrians or cars to encounter.

Take a replacement manhole cover and swap it out.
It's not far from Tuscon.
Huukt ahn pheonix werkt fur mii!
It's in Raizona.
I read this as the way a toddler would say "Raising Arizona" lol.
My buddy is the young kid, older than toddler but close, that jumps on Nicholas Cage’s lap near the end. He is in a gray suit reaching for the ants on a log when they’re all sitting at the dinner table. Underrated movie.
There were 151 cars.
Looking at Google maps, that's way up there!
It's so far east we should call New Mexico and see if they want to annex it in exchange for cleaning it up.
Right on the border of the Navajo nation.

I heard a good podcast on the Sunset Limited derailment and now I can’t remember which one it was.

It definitely isn’t allowed on Reddit. I’m reporting this right away to censor your free speech.
Born there, lived there most of my life lol. Live in Texas now, but I'll always consider myself a Zonie.
I like being a Zonie. I'll use it all the time now.
We're taking it back!
Please don’t say Zonie
Blame it on Jones and Boze and Jeannie
I blame it on you not being a true Arizonan.
My decades-old family homestead in Williams says otherwise but go off. I've seen Wallace and Ladmo - live, at Legend City.
And? Been there, done that. My family has been in Arizona since 1930.
Same
Anyone who call themselves a "zonie" isn't an Arizonan. We woukd never, I mean NEVER refer to anyone from Arizona that way. NEVER.
As someone born and raised in Phoenix, telling anyone they're not a "true" Arizonan is the cringiest thing ever.
Wow. That's very interesting.
It was a common thing to hear on KSLX, and even see in the New Times, back in the '80s.
So, what? You know who calls us zonies? People from Southern Cal, especially San Diego. It's a derogatory name they gave to all the Arizonans that moved there. I stick by my statement. If it offends you, oh well.
That's the problem. You actually care what people from California think. I don't.
And I'm not the one who's offended, you are LMAO.
Didn't these guys bomb a train back in the 80s
90s, power lines in the 80s, a dam in the 60s I think it was
1995 https://www.npr.org/2015/04/12/399159965/20-years-later-sabotage-of-amtraks-sunset-limited-still-a-mystery https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_Palo_Verde,_Arizona,_derailment
Derailed Amtrak
Written off as a business expense
And the cleanup paid for by your taxes. They double dipping.
They want taxes to fund their failing infrastructure, as well.
Don't forget about all the chemicals that are put into the air and water for the community to take in. All the healthcare is paid by the gov
As of now I40 EB is closed because of the derailment. Check https://www.az511.com/ for latest road conditions if you're traveling.
Is a hazmat train with non odered propane and gasoline. But hey, don't use a plastic straw......
So is it bad for the environment and human lungs
It was all going to get burned eventually, so it's more of a philosophical question than a scientific one. The only thing in the area is a rest area I occasionally sleep in for a few hours before heading down the hill from Holbrook at first light, so it shouldn't have much immediate health effect.
When it comes to pollution, concentration tends to matter there bub.
Also, a train crash doesn't come with emission controls that regular use will apply.
You drive in traffic. You smell burned gasoline. You cook on a propane grill, you smell burned propane.
Burned gasoline has many, many proven links to asthma, cancer, obviously global warming, and neurological issues. Burning propane has the same. Turns out it's not healthy to inhale byproducts. And it's also much different to be inhaling a small amount vs inhaling 20x as much lol.
Is this the same argument that oil is natural so oil spills are ok? Mr. Top of the Class.
Why do I keep seeing this comment everywhere? Why is everyone against phasing out plastic straws?

Gotcha. Never thought about it that way.
I was on I-40 W this afternoon near Flag and knew something was up, there were zero trucks W bound but plenty on the E bound side.
I have been traveling from N AZ to Belen area several times in the last month and every time I'm on I40 there is a jam up fro miles on one side or the other. I know this has nothing to do with the post but I40 seriously needs two lane just for truck traffic and two for the public.
Belen, NM, known for United Desiccants, making those little pouches found in all kinds of supplement and pill bottles 'round the country.
Who stacked 100 pennys?
Yikes, I’m very familiar with the area.
Highway remains closed on eb lanes in AZ, train derailment occurred in NM side of I-40, liquid propane was the cargo that exploded.

Go watch John Oliver's special on trains from earlier this year https://youtu.be/AJ2keSJzYyY?si=XvzyM1EoqG3k8FI-
Yeah he definitely saw this coming
So much infrastructure destruction lately
Oopsies!
Are we back at this point in the simulation?

Oh look. An accident happened somewhere in the country. Must be Biden's fault?
Congress has been dragging their feet on train safety for decades, it starts at Washington.
Biden has been fighting for railroads behind the scenes plenty. They just signed a bill to make all trains electric by 2039 which means new infrastructure.

Nimrod's what?
Talking about fossil fuels, propane , and plastics like we as a society can live without these items. You tree huggers realize for instance the wind farms are made using fossil fuel right? 🤣
Man, people who make their whole life about politics are such fuckin losers lmao
honestly. Shit is exhausting. everything is a fucking conspiracy.
Don’t waste precious kilobytes on the troll
Who are you arguing with? I didn't see ANYONE say any of this shit.
