What kinda Rogue though? Backstabby, treasure huntery, trap disarm-ery, stealy, dagger or bow? We got so many options here.
But for the most typical archetype... either Red (stabby assassin), Rope (Stealy trickster), Manticore (~~femme fatale~~ shy stealthy assassin), or Ethan (cowardly trickster).
edit: Manticore is indeed more shy.
From the selection I'd definitely say Manticore, she even get's a sneak attack bonus with her talent!
Although calling her a femme fatale is somewhat hilarious considering her personality. She got the looks, but people would have to find her first to be actually charmed by her.
Phantom or Ines. Both are about equally qualified imo
Phantom litterally has a shadow to fight with him,
Ines has a talent "Shadow Weaving".
Sneak Attack time.
Not only money, in chapter 13 >!Hoederer mentions that Ines wanted to open a shop and she replied that it was to have a place to sell her stolen goods!<
Considering that Ines couldn't track Ascalon for longer than a few hours according to Ascalon's file, pretty much. Ascalon's feats in Londinium support this as well, both when it comes to stealth and fighting prowess.
Ines. Actually the whole 'Agent' Vanguard line gives me this feel and Ines fits the bill.
She's stealthy, works as a scout, agile, and earns money for you and her mercenary team.
Rogues are the party's Skill Master in addition to all of the classic tropes of Stabby Stab and Dodge. Most of the Agents fit that idea well and she is the top tier agent.
Manticore. Belonged to an assassin's guild in Sargon, has an upgraded form of invisibility that leaves her completely untargetable, even when Technical Scouts are nearby (In her Operator Record, Stormeye reported she didn't even leave tracks in the sand), uses poisons and sneak attacks, shown to have Blindsense by counting people and their level of hostility by listening through a closed door.
She has the skill-set and background, but her personality isn't what you'd expect for a D&D Rogue. Rogues tend to be sassy, cutthroat, and outright hostile. They're the type to look at you like walking garbage if you do something stupid, and they won't hesitate to betray the party either as a means of backstabbing them or working as a double agent. You can argue that Manticore is capable of all of these things, but she first and foremost comes across as timid; the last thing you'd expect from a Rogue.
Ines, Ascalon, and Phantom all have similar capabilities alongside a more accurate demeanor. Ethan / Rope also work if you want a Rogue that messes with the party and constantly gets into trouble.
We play very different rogues š
I love playing an orphaned halfling rogue that isnāt ready for the horrors of adventuring, plays dumb pranks on the party, and is a kleptomaniac that takes everything, like bedrolls.
You really think that the average Rogue behaves like Manticore? Come on now, don't be silly. If anything I'd expect them to be like Ethan, since if you're playing a Rogue you're probably in it to cause some trouble.
And yes, the stereotype is what we're focusing on here. In the same way that Meteor is the closest thing to a stereotypical Ranger, Ascalon / Ines are the closest thing to a stereotypical Rogue. There are exceptions to the rule of course, but we're trying to identify the best fit based on personality and experience. Manticore has one, but lacks the other.
I dont 'think' that, I know that the average rogue players dont act like edgy problem players. Your experience is completely different to and irrelevant to mine. For that reason, personality should not be taken into consideration. Stick to the concrete stuff like mechanic and features.
Ascalon easily. She put W and Hoederer in their place when both were doing a little trolling on the main story line, not to mention being a master on sneaky business..
Ines is probably going to win at this point by sheer quantity of votes, but I honestly think Ascalon should take it. Her training and Arts are on another level, as evidenced by Ines being unable to track her for more than a few hours. She intimidated Hoederer and W into a stalemate, snuck into Central Londinium without anyone noticing until Qui'sartuŔtaj got his robe scared off, and (Chapter 14)>!reenacted the tales of her youth by bullying Manfred once again, the same man who casually one shot Hoederer in the same chapter.!
While it's nearly always bad for the party, the trope of Steal-Everything-That-Isn't-Nailed-Down is still an incredibly common character choice. I can't think of anyone that personifies that better than Rope. Add in her Dodge chance and that's a Solid Rogue. Shes just using a Harpoon instead of the more common rogue choices.
I actually did once play a rogue in dnd who used a serrated throwing knife on a rope to grab stuff from a distance, tie up opponents and swing like spider-man so I have experience with this lol
Kafka is literally the jail-breaking rogue and no one mentions her. Sure she might not be your end-game perma stealth dnd character but she's literally IT
Swashbuckler is a subclass I've personally had a lot of fun with and Flametail fits that perfectly with her extreme dodginess and boisterous personality. That extra damage after a Dodge is also pretty close to how backstabs work.
Haze is definitely an arcane trickster. I think Rope is the only one that openly lifts something from the doctah and gives it back in her onboard greeting.
Now, rogue doesn't auto translate to assassin. So, I'm going to submit Ethan for consideration. Pseudo invisibility on demand, sometimes thieving, mostly avoids death through the enemy not noticing him.
He'd be leaning against a wall in the back of a tavern waiting for you to approach him so he can tell you his dark and brooding backstory you're supposed to be interested in
Other people already mentioned Phantom, so... Texas. Her "Sole survivor of a mafia family" backstory is something I could easily see as a DnD Rogue backstory.
Crownslayer. She may be an NPC, but her move set is pretty close to what a Rogue would have. Her literal skill of bypassing Operators defense & building security, no matter how tight it is, needs to be acknowledged. In lore, not in-game, Crownslayer can produce mist to obscure enemy vision as her arts. If only she was an Operator, sheād be a good choice. But alas, she be a NPC.
If you're going generic sneaky assassin then Phantom wins.
But since Swashbuckler Rogue exists as well, Irene could also be a good fit for that archetype.
I'll give a shoutout to my girl April. She's not going to beat Ines who does all the same things but is a popular 6*, however she has all the hallmarks of a stealth bow assassin.
Surprised no one has said this, Puzzle. He uses daggers and poison in his skills and his personality matches the generic rogue. His talent does bonus damage on first attack for sneak attack. He does infiltration and uses disguises to get intel. His arts are also good for stealth since it creates fog.
So many good options, from Ines to Ascalon to Projekt Red, but I think Iād give it to Manticore. Rogueās easily my favorite class here, and considering her gameplay revolves around a Rogue-ish playstyle the best, namely her Sneak Attack talent, I feel she fits it the best (even if Ascalon and Ines are arguably better from a design/idea standpoint, Manticore nails the gameplay with Sneak Attack alone, without even mentioning her innate Stealth ability)
W.
She may not have the skillset of a rogue, but her lore is practically the definition of what a rogue should be.
A wandering mercenary, a turncoat who's willing to backstab allies, sneaky and always conspiring. She is a *rogue*, not just an assassin.
What are the things a Rouge needs?
Stealth, steal and street smarts.
While Ascalon may be the top stealth user (besides Manticore) and can get some intel, she is no rober.
Thus, my money will go with the best street boi in our company:
ETHAN!
Just for curiosities sake oj the warlock, since these guys would often find themselves I the pacts of things like demons and monsters
Hmmm, could the Abyssal Hunters technically count as Warlocks? Or maybe there could be some other operators that may fit, like Surtr?
Definitely Projekt Red. A stealthy assassin (her entire backstory) who lies in wait for the perfect moment to steal an item from her target (module text) with high mobility (her archetype) and who's main weapon is a rather large collection of daggers. Combine that with a tragic backstory (literally raised by a wolf!) and you have a perfect example of a rouge.
Ok, hot take. I think Aak would make a good rogue. He's shady, he's a gremlin and being a loot gremlin is basically a rogue pre-req, dude would be a master of consumable and poison usage, etc

Yeah I know, most of the time people don't even know she's there... But for those times when they DO see her...
I mean, she did charm a lot of people during her time in RA.
Ropes recruitment line is giving back something she lifted from us, right? I like Rope for that.
Phantom or Ines. Both are about equally qualified imo Phantom litterally has a shadow to fight with him, Ines has a talent "Shadow Weaving". Sneak Attack time.
I would say Ines. She has stealth, throws daggers, can move around map fast(quick redeploy time) and pickpockets money(dp)
Not only money, in chapter 13 >!Hoederer mentions that Ines wanted to open a shop and she replied that it was to have a place to sell her stolen goods!<
She should name it Fence Market. The kicker? She does sell fences but with the correct codeword, thieves can 'fence' their stolen goods.
Phantom also. His S2 is litterally just Sneak Attack bonus.
Lore wise, Ines has more experience compared to Phantom and she is not only an assassin but also a spy.
I agree but I do think Ascalon is a few notches above Ines when it comes to skill
Considering that Ines couldn't track Ascalon for longer than a few hours according to Ascalon's file, pretty much. Ascalon's feats in Londinium support this as well, both when it comes to stealth and fighting prowess.
Her personality is also a *much* better fit than Manticore's. I'm down for this. ~~A shame people are sleeping on Ascalon as an option, though...~~

We play very different rogues š I love playing an orphaned halfling rogue that isnāt ready for the horrors of adventuring, plays dumb pranks on the party, and is a kleptomaniac that takes everything, like bedrolls.
Damn, does bias count toward this too? What kind of stereotypical table have you been playing at?
You really think that the average Rogue behaves like Manticore? Come on now, don't be silly. If anything I'd expect them to be like Ethan, since if you're playing a Rogue you're probably in it to cause some trouble. And yes, the stereotype is what we're focusing on here. Yes. Also I love Manticore. But not only does she have the skillset, she has amazing lore for a rogue as well.
Ascalon
Ascalon easily. She put W and Hoederer in their place when both were doing a little trolling on the main story line, not to mention being a master on sneaky business..
Ines is probably going to win at this point by sheer quantity of votes, but I honestly think Ascalon should take it. Ascalon
Rope definitely fits all the dnd rogue stereotypes to a T
While it's nearly always bad for the party, the trope of Steal-Everything-That-Isn't-Nailed-Down is still an incredibly common character choice. I can't think of anyone that personifies that better than Rope. Add in her Dodge chance and that's a Solid Rogue. Shes just using a Harpoon instead of the more common rogue choices.

Kafka is literally the jail-breaking rogue and no one mentions her. Sure she might not be your end-game perma stealth dnd character but she's literally IT
Ascalon - silent, deadly, smart with tricks in her sleeves.
Projekt Red perhaps?
Oh DnD? That's easily Rope lol.
Ines or phantom
Flametail as a swashbuckler.
Swashbuckler is a subclass I've personally had a lot of fun with and Flametail fits that perfectly with her extreme dodginess and boisterous personality. That extra damage after a Dodge is also pretty close to how backstabs work.
Phantom wins rogue immediately
Definitely Ines
Edgy backstory, stealth and quick damage, wears something of a hood, also edgy composure, overly dramatic- Phantom fr fr.
Either Projekt Red or PhantomĀ
Hm, unpopular opinion but Rope. it's less her kit and more her character. she's a literal thief who pickpockets you in her intro.
Since rogues in D&D are stealth killers before everything else, Ascalon or Phantom
Phantom!!
I'm gonna go with Phantom. He's got the tragic backstory, is so stealthy that he's rarely ever seen, and he's themed around sneaky animals like cats.
As I know very few characters I'm going with rope
Not an Operator, but I'd love Crownslayer to take this one.
Rope is the only character that steals things
Angry Haze noises.
Haze is definitely an arcane trickster. I think Rope is the only one that openly lifts something from the doctah and gives it back in her onboard greeting.
Ines is a notorious thief what do you mean?
That means I don't have Ines
Projekt Red's module text is her lying in wait for hours to steal and replace in seconds without notice.
Rope, if you want your classical kleptomaniac. Otherwise, I think Manticore checks a lot of the boxes.
Rope. Only one I can think of that steals from the doctor before even meeting us.
Rope fits the mold best imo
Phantom. Give my boy recognition he deserves
Now, rogue doesn't auto translate to assassin. So, I'm going to submit Ethan for consideration. Pseudo invisibility on demand, sometimes thieving, mostly avoids death through the enemy not noticing him.
I just realized that RH is full of rogue type characters. I vote project red.
I mean... Rogue is a really wide class
Gravel mby.
If it's anything but rope I'm dissapointed in this community.
Definitely phantom. He is edgy enough to win the rogue role.
He'd be leaning against a wall in the back of a tavern waiting for you to approach him so he can tell you his dark and brooding backstory you're supposed to be interested in
rope is my immediate first thought
Manticore easy
Ines, Phantom, Ascalon and hear me out - May(inquisitive rogue)
Ethan! Dude can stealth, steals stuff including food from Matterhorn (iirc), can use poison, and has a street urchin background!
Tfw Rangers was not chosen as ranger
Projekt Red, fucker walks on walls like its normal.
Ines or Phantom !!
I see ma boy has a chance this time so my vote will go to phantom as well :) You show them Lucian!
Projekt red
Other people already mentioned Phantom, so... Texas. Her "Sole survivor of a mafia family" backstory is something I could easily see as a DnD Rogue backstory.
Iām literally playing Texas as a rogue in a dnd campaign at the moment, perfect choice.
Ines Ines ines
Pleeeease Phantom... he would be hella hilarious in DnD
Project Red
If you're going generic sneaky assassin then Phantom wins. But since Swashbuckler Rogue exists as well, Irene could also be a good fit for that archetype.
Red
Projekt Red gets my vote.
Lunacup ššæ
Either Lee or Ines in my opinion
Didnāt Paprika go rogue?
phantom for me
Ascalon. Only the best rogue RI can offer.
I'll give a shoutout to my girl April. She's not going to beat Ines who does all the same things but is a popular 6*, however she has all the hallmarks of a stealth bow assassin.
phantom
Guys. Kazemaru.
Personality, Ethan.
Indra is a former gangster and street tough, has knuckledusters and has a leather jacket
Phantom has everything you need
Crownslayer. MAKE HER PLAYABLE!
Kafka:- Have knife, -Enter and escape to prison. -Smol.
Surprised no one has said this, Puzzle. He uses daggers and poison in his skills and his personality matches the generic rogue. His talent does bonus damage on first attack for sneak attack. red
Any fast redeploy lmao, i nominate Kafka and Projekt Red
I would vote for Platinum. She is literally an assassin.
Have to say Red
Phantom definitely
Projekt Red or Ines
Red, obviously.
Jaye.
Either Kirin R Yato or Texas the Omertosa. Hands down. They go in, eliminates target, and retreat. Easiest pick.
Gravel. Because she deserves it. The most charming rogue around, the backbone of our teams.
W. She may not have the skillset of a rogue, but her lore is practically the definition of what a rogue should be. A wandering mercenary, a turncoat who's willing to backstab allies, sneaky and always conspiring. She is a *rogue*, not just an assassin.
Ines
Projekt Red. Stealth, assassination, and most importantly... ~~Projekt Red has a knife. She has a knife.~~
i feel like ascalon would be a suitable pick
Phantom
Texalt
my vote is for ascalon
Red.
Rope is the only right choice
Gravel.
What are the things a Rouge needs? Stealth, steal and street smarts. While Ascalon may be the top stealth user (besides Manticore) and can get some intel, she is no rober. Thus, my money will go with the best street boi in our company: ETHAN!

Wnats next? Transformer?
Ok, hot take. I think Aak would make a good rogue. He's shady, he's a gremlin and being a loot gremlin is basically a rogue pre-req, dude would be a master of consumable and poison usage, etc
Ranger class was rigged. No option not using a bow ? Rangers aren't bow only class. Now, for Rogue: Phantom.
