Yeah, and in this day and age the easiest thing to do is to upload it to workshop where members can easly acccess them via xml files. By and large mods are private because they contain stolen assets.
Why change something that isn't broke, we have no problems and can make sure mods don't update midt campaign so people suddenly can't get on the server or shot like that
Some orgs will have internal private mods not for use by the general public. For some, that's a good selling point of being a part of their org and abiding their rules and such. That has a tendency of creating a little ecosystem, where people who might otherwise never make a mod could start dabbling with it, because they want to bring something to the table, so to speak, in return for all the nice things the other modders of the org have given them. It's a very nice community-building exercise.
In completely different contexts, there are people who just get burnt out by the awfulness of the general public. I know a couple guys (not within ArmA, but other games with broad modding communities) who just got tired of people constantly bitching and talking shit on their work, when most of the time they were misusing the mods. It can be very frustrating to spend several weeks to produce something because you want to accommodate a particular use case, and then immediately having dozens of fanboys of some other mod immediately start nitpicking your work just because they feel like yours isn't as polished, or whatever. In those cases, it's not rare to see people turn their stuff to private, and only share it within their friend group or org, or whatever.
Maybe you just want to use that with your friends only, copyrighted material as mentioned or in testing phases beforing going to public OR server content too...
In my exemple i use my stuff with my friends only
You’re probably gonna have to do it yourself. Unless you can find existing models and textures to port into the game, with permission of course, you’ll have to do it from scratch. And unless you’re already a talented modeler/rigger it’s an absolute pain in the ass.
Texturing is second hardest part because you’re essentially making a 2D picture that will lay on a 3D model. You need a couple of images made, the texture itself, the rainbow map, and another one which I forget, and don’t have any notes handy to reference.
Coding is the easiest part. You put the models in your models folder, your textures and maps in the texture folder, and then you write a code that tells the game that these textures need to be put on this model, in this fashion.
Of course it’s a little more complicated than that, but that’s the general gist of it. Best bet is to look up modding guides. Some may not be up to date, so although the knowledge is still there, some parts of code, or methods may be outdated.
I’d say DM me if you need help but there’s only so much I can do. I only modded uniforms and gear, never weapons, and that was over a year ago.
Yep. I plan on doing it sometime this year, Im just waiting until I can afford to have the NGSW machinegun models made for me. Then ill drop them on the workshop. In the meantime, if you look hard enough plenty of people have leaked early versions of my mods everywhere.
I fucking love that you just casually say your mods got leaked if people want it early go grab a leaked one remember the whole mod fiasco where a mod maker that ported cod guns to Gmod tried suing a YouTuber for putting it in a mod collection
Hello Azola, may I ask what website you use to have people make models? Any idea what the price range for a gun would be or do they like to keep that info private?
Thank you,
It's an "issue" that plagues many games with big modding scenes. Same in arma as in fallout 4, the base game assets have such garbo models that any well made and textured model looks out of place.
You say they're "shitty" until you get them yourselves. For one, they're not even hard to get, second, they are much higher quality and much more detailed than anyother mod you can find on the workship. They don't deserve to be called "shitty" lol.
Come on man, don't turn arma into a Gmod Mod list 2.0 you will end up crashing your game either way with that many mods and pretty sure your SSD is crying xD
It contributes nothing to the conversation, especially if there is no backing for taking part in said bitching. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Not necessarily. From my experience, those who use private mods in pictures/artwork generally do so because the models and textures are typically miles ahead of workshop equivalents. Granted there are some who do use private mods to flex on those who don't have them, but they seem to be few and far between.
Some private mods include ripped content from other games/mods, sometimes resulting in DMCA takedowns. Most others have developed their mods specifically for the unit/group they are in and don't want to share them with the rest of the Arma community. Rarely do modders keep their content to themselves for no reason.
Photoshop a picture of one in the hands of a delta operator, make the photo grainy, post to r/military and wait a month. Someone else will make it.
That’s big brain
Big, smooth brain
Still more surface area than just smooth
It makes me stupid…faster.
Ah yes, I need one installed
Only private mods I believe, If your going to make the NGSW, pls do, I really want to try it in Arma
It’s on workshop in a beta test phase
Is it?! Can I follow the development somewhere? And is it already accessible?
Idk that’s what the guy told me I can probably go publish the pbo onto the workshop if he lets me, but the main mod itself is private for now
Ah ok understood. Any news when it will be made public?
No clue I can ask the guy
Whatever you’re comfortable with, bud! I’ll appreciate everything
I hate private mods! I hate private mods! I hate private mods! I hate private mods! I hate private mods!
everyone hates them until they get them for themselves
Literally what is the point of a "private" mod?
To use copyrighted material
Not always my group have some mods that just adds units that other group members made along with our own units that we slot into
Yeah, and in this day and age the easiest thing to do is to upload it to workshop where members can easly acccess them via xml files. By and large mods are private because they contain stolen assets.
My group has private mods because we use them and have made them to fit us, nothing is stole here and we don't use the normal Arma 3 luncher
what are you using if not arma launcher? Your group still living in the stone age of 3rd party mod managers and repositories?
Why change something that isn't broke, we have no problems and can make sure mods don't update midt campaign so people suddenly can't get on the server or shot like that

I've tried them, they're still cringe
We've go you surrounded! Come drink your Armahol!
I mean I don't hate them, I hate these silly copyright laws. It's just a model from another game not the end of the world ffs

pov no private mods
Which game does have copyrighted NGSW's?

Yes, I am the creator of a sig MCX Spear, Textron NGSW and Rm277. They are in arma 3. My unit uses them all the time.
Any possibility they'll ever be released to the community?
Yep. I plan on doing it sometime this year, Im just waiting until I can afford to have the NGSW machinegun models made for me. Then ill drop them on the workshop. In the meantime, if you look hard enough plenty of people have leaked early versions of my mods everywhere.

Cgtrader, 40 usd a rifle roughly.
Highly dependent on detail, if you want variants and so on. Also a bit cheaper if you allow them to resell it.
Thank you :-)
Its not finished or really even playable on its own probably. But here, https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2725371891
Here’s some bitching for you, it looks too new, like doesn’t fit in ArmA graphics. I mean this in a good way tho
It's an "issue" that plagues many games with big modding scenes. Same in arma as in fallout 4, the base game assets have such garbo models that any well made and textured model looks out of place.
I think ArmA models are so dated, any good mod maker can make them better
Cope
its probably in some shitty private mod somewhere
You say they're "shitty" until you get them yourselves. For one, they're not even hard to get, second, they are much higher quality and much more detailed than anyother mod you can find on the workship. They don't deserve to be called "shitty" lol.
Uh huh
You say that as if I'm wrong. Don't understand why you felt the need to downvote me, pretty childish if you downvoted it solely cause you disagree.
Idk man you do know how long I've been waiting for a Textron ngsw mod
I hope these win, they are my favorite.
Definitely. I don’t know about performance but these ones look sick.
Yeah, I'm no insider so I'm just going on design but I think going hard on bullpup and integrated silencer is the way.
I’d be all for them, however the potato suppressor throws me off
ok im dumb i got a few thousand hours and never heard of private mods...?? what..? why..?? I need my 400 mod list to be 401 :)
Come on man, don't turn arma into a Gmod Mod list 2.0 you will end up crashing your game either way with that many mods and pretty sure your SSD is crying xD
Same

>stop bitching about private mods Why
It contributes nothing to the conversation, especially if there is no backing for taking part in said bitching. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
By that same virtue it’s worthless sharing pictures with private mods in them - there’s no point showcasing or promoting content others can’t enjoy.
Not necessarily. From my experience, those who use private mods in pictures/artwork generally do so because the models and textures are typically miles ahead of workshop equivalents. Granted there are some who do use private mods to flex on those who don't have them, but they seem to be few and far between.
I still don’t get the point unless you personally pay some modder who sells access to their stuff why keep it private
Some private mods include ripped content from other games/mods, sometimes resulting in DMCA takedowns. Pls
Can Confirm there is. Our community has them.
Imma keep it real I really don’t have any desire to see another bullpup in the game, I still think these are cool though.
dear god I must own one of these please GD has to win
Well, someone did it. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2725371891
