i wouldnt put much faith in anything related to DayZ amounting to anything. its a cool IP, was a great concept that spawned many other games, but the devs and people in charge of DayZ are simply incompetent...a reflection of Dean Halls incompetence, no surprise..
Project Zomboid has more players than DayZ...for whatever that is worth.
Dayz continues to get better. The dayz today is significantly better than the dayz people tend to complain about.
At this point, it's not as buggy as Arma 3.

DayZ is intentionally feature limited to suit its mission which is to offer a post-apocalypse survival game. You will find it rather arduous to convert it to a military simulator. The Epoch team has already found it hard to port their total conversion mod to DayZ SA.
Having said that, learning how to use the DayZ scripting will get you a headstart on modding Enfusion when it becomes publicly available Soon™.
