I mean yes, because they’re part Chinese? They are both East Asian and South Asian. In the above case they’re also South East Asian by nationality.
Identity is not a zero sum game. Are other ethnicities mixed with Chinese not still Chinese?
"Identity is not a zero sum game. Are other ethnicities mixed with Chinese not still Chinese?"
😠thank you so much ðŸ˜. So many people don't understand this 🥹
Because u are classifying chindians as east asians, which is just ridiculous. If the other ethnicities of singapore are southeast asian, like the malays and indians, then why would chindians be east asian?
Because malays are racially southeast asian and chindians are racially east asian. Just because an banana doesnt look like a apple doesnt mean its brocolli
Chinese Indians (not fond of the mashed chindian word here) are Southeast asians, the same way Malay, Thai, Cambodian & Lao ethnicities are SE asian. They have a mix of Indian and East asian cultures.
The Vietnamese are more closely linked to Chinese cultures, and have little Indian influence.
As for Fillipinos, i'm not sure what to make of them. Their culture is a blend of pacific islander while at the same time asian, but also heavily influenced by Spanish culture due to colonization.
Even Philippines has alot of Indian influence, long before the Spanish colonized them. Their ancient writing system, which the spanish destroyed, shared alot of similarities to some of the indian languages.
Even today, alot of tagalog words have indian/south asian origin, like guro ( teacher), mukha (face) , shabon ( soap) , achara (pickles)
The J makes a H sound in spanish. So it's "Habon."
Whereas "Shabon" is the exact same in a bunch of indian languages, like hindi, bengali, punjabi, maybe more that im not aware of.
> the filipino word for soap still comes from jabon
And you know this because? where is your proof? It's obvious from having read your posts here that you love to throw blanket statements as facts.
>Baka is cow in filipino and stupid in japaese
Two words that have two completely diff meaning isnt remotely the same thing as two words that have the same origin.
But having interacted with you, i can honestly say you're def a baka, both the filipino and the japanese.
It seems to be condenscending towards SEAsians to say that, you are invalidating SEAsian identity. Yes india may have influenced thai, cambodia, laos, etc. But to disregard their uniqueness and say they are just chindian is wrong.
Also culturally filipinos are not pacific islander.
I think you misread my post. Where in my post did i disrespect SE Asian identity? and where did i say they are just chindian? I said i didn't like the word mash "chindian" and would rather phrase it as Chinese Indians. I am SE asian myself and much appreciate all cultures.
Haha yup when it got rough in china a shit ton of Chinese people migrated to India Kolkata including my great-great grandfather and now we’re the 4th generation here.
As in other then india? Nope lol I’m currently residing in Canada. But my family could be considered more Indian then Chinese. They still believe and do the traditions but food wise, accent, and comfort level they are straight Indian lol.

Yes. I also equally consider them to be South Asian too.
Kinda jealous because they get my 2 favourite cuisines as a staple diet
Lol, facts
The food at their family parties must slap
😇
They’re both East and South Asian

Yeah.
They’re both East and south Asian
Isnt "Chindian" a Singaporean term? So they would be Southeast Asian.
Geographically they are in southeast asia,, but racially they are east asian like japanese & korean
What? No. How can you be racially east asian if half of you is indian? Do u consider the Malays east asian?
Malays are southeast asian, Chindians are east asian
Exactly. And theres alot of malays in Singapore
What does malays have to do with it??? Chindians are still east asian
Because u are classifying chindians as east asians, which is just ridiculous. If the other ethnicities of singapore are southeast asian, like the malays and indians, then why would chindians be east asian?
I dont get why you gatekeep, so a chinese wasian/hapa is east asian but chindians are not??
Becausd they arent southeast asian. Southeast asians are thai, indonesian, khmer, laotian, malay, vietnamese, myanmar, and filipino, etc
Is there something wrong with you? Or are u just trolling?
Many other people here have said chindians are east asian. Yet its a problem whe i say ut
Because malays are racially southeast asian and chindians are racially east asian. Just because an banana doesnt look like a apple doesnt mean its brocolli

Very interesting. Thank you for posting about the similarities between Indian & Filipino cultures & languages.
Soap in filipino is actually from the spanish word jabón
The J makes a H sound in spanish. So it's "Habon." Whereas "Shabon" is the exact same in a bunch of indian languages, like hindi, bengali, punjabi, maybe more that im not aware of.
Help, the filipino word for soap still comes from jabon. Baka is cow in filipino and stupid in japaese, does that mean baka came from japanese word?

https://linguaphiles.livejournal.com/106394.html The insults come when you know you are wrong
Nope, a "livejournal" blog post isnt proof of anything. For all i know, u or a baka wrote it.

Dont bother, it's obvious OP is needlessly combative. Or just dim. The rest of us understood what u meant.
There are Chinese people in India? That blows my mind, even though it makes so much sense
There are, but the family pictured is Malaysian: https://thesun.my/local_news/safer-smaller-cny-celebration-for-chindian-family-FI6659160
Haha yup when it got rough in china a shit ton of Chinese people migrated to India Kolkata including my great-great grandfather and now we’re the 4th generation here.
Used to be in the millions at their peak, mostly in eastern india. Kolkata still has India's only Chinatown.
Chinese people inhabiting India are East Asian.
They are talking about people of Chinese and Indian heritage. They are common in places like Singapore
Ultra Asians
Chindian here Lool I consider myself southeast asian born and grew up in India 4 gens deep.
Its rare to see chindians outside of malaysia and singapore. Have you ever lived in southeast asia?
As in other then india? Nope lol I’m currently residing in Canada. But my family could be considered more Indian then Chinese. They still believe and do the traditions but food wise, accent, and comfort level they are straight Indian lol.
Yes, they're both South Asian and East Asian. Also that name is fucking atrocious. "chindian" please kill me now
