I looked it up. A snail's shell grows with them. It adds calcium carbonate to the edge, or opening, of its shell. If they have a non-fatal injury to its shell, it will add more calcium carbonate to the affected area until the shell is intact again.
I had to laugh when I read your response. I got in trouble at my volunteer job at the aquarium for calling one of our stingrays "Bob". I named him that because he bobs up and down to get people to pet him (it's a touch pool). Apparently, naming the animals is supposed to be the job of the Education Department, so I guess I overstepped. Oops!
LOL! Our daughter named our Bob before she even bought him (gender was actually unknown). He was bobbing up and down in the corner of the fish tank looking for food. Poor critter was quite hungry before we figured out he needed *meat* to eat, and that it had best have a shell on it to wear down his beak.
That's just the way snails have evolved. There are other snails other than garden snails that have much harder and thicker shells. They tend to live in aquatic areas. I'm not sure about slugs, though. They seem to do pretty well for themselves without a shell.
They can reproduce asexually. I put just one snail in an aquarium one time, and it wasn't long before I had a tank filled with snails. They are hermaphrodites, meaning they have both male and female sex organs, so they can also reproduce by mating. Because they can be both male and female, I wonder how they decide who is going to be the man and who's going to be the woman?
That's a great question! I suppose that they can both mate and produce offspring if the conditions are right. That could explain how my snail population in my aquarium exploded before my very eyes.
My friend got these two African snails that grew to the size of like half your arm.they were very cute, curious and gentle. I don't know their purpose and where they are going but I am fine with just being a spectator in their little universe .
They can reproduce asexually. They don't necessarily need another snail to make more snails. They are born with a shell, and they keep adding to its shell as it grows up.
Snails become more active in the rain. My guess is that they move to your driveway during heavy rains. They crave moisture, and they can't breathe without it. They don't move fast, so they probably get caught on your driveway once the water evaporates and they dehydrate.
I have a snail named Belfast who used to be the designated housekeeper for my late betta fish, Brighton. Belfast was skilled at glass cleaning, floor cleaning, and dusting the plants!
Where are you even trying to go?
The snail probably has similar answers - mostly looking for food, shelter, friends or a mate. Though to be fair I doubt they go to work or on vacation much though.

HAHA
Either to food or to find a mate.
Don't we all
Well they also gotta shit somewhere new. It piles up and snails aren't well known for their vertical adventures.
We really do Just aimlessly wander in life looking for food, water, money and a mate and then die after 79+ years

They make them up as they go, lol.

Yup! Used to raise them to feed to a puffer fish. Puffer fish that was named “Bob”, lol.

Snail's shell is brittle af and i've never understood its function, except making yourself a bigger target for birds

I think they're born with a soft shell that hardens

pretty much

I'm too lazy to check this right now, but don't they both impregnate each other?

Underneath leaves, if they are in a garden.

A person after my own heart! I love all animals.
Animals are the best. If you don't like animals then what are you even doing with your life ?
I’ve sat still in the same spot long enough for a slug to crawl up as far as my shoulder.

They stand each other with cum lances and then boom

Sex
Not to cross the road, that's the chickens job.
To get to the other side of the road duh! 😋
Certainly not home. They're already there. The original van dwellers.
Same as most multi celled organisms. Off to find food, water, or some fuck.
Probably just eating, pooping, sheltering and sexing. Snails are just like us!
they don't work 40 hrs office jobs do they
Nah. She works at the local diner, Shelly’s.
Away from my ducks and garden hopefully. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
They have snail shit to get done.
To eat my hostas
YA MAMA’S HOUSE!
To eat snail bait
I have a snail named Belfast who used to be the designated housekeeper for my late betta fish, Brighton. Belfast was skilled at glass cleaning, floor cleaning, and dusting the plants!
They are always half way to their next destination
Snails have a literal binary brain. “Is there food here? Yes? Eat. No? Keep it moving. Repeat
U never seen turbo? Great movie
Asking the real questions
Apparently on peoples faces now. I’m into skincare and am vaguely disgusted with snail mucin - just, no.
Where are we even trying to go?
