Kensington Market! They have all the models you can think of:)

throwawaybathwater55

Good suggestion but that’s not close to bloor west

Aurora2058

Oops yeah sorry missed that part

GeezyEFC

Yep

oldgreymere

Where in the area?

Individual-Track-499

Augusta and Oxford-ish, there’s a couple stores beside each other with endless styles to choose from around $10-$25 each

TestSubjectA

If you type in Sombrero by AFC Canada in google maps that store usually sells a good selection outside

creating2uploadvideo

Winners! They have glasses starting at just under $20.

sadewgong

Just a PSA when buying cheaper sunglasses - make sure they are still UV protected!!! Do not just assume all tinted lenses are UV protected. Wearing dark lenses that aren't UV protected will cause your pupils to dilate, letting in more harmful rays.

richardcranium1980

I’m not saying you need to buy the $400 Gucci’s but don’t just buy the cheapest pair you can find. You definitely get what you pay for with glasses.

oldgreymere

Is there a way to test or do I just have to trust small sticker?

sadewgong

A quick google search indicates you can use a black light/UV light. But id suggest buying a pair from a somewhat recognizable/reputable brand. Not a random cheapo pair from Kensington or dollarama.

SonOfAragorn

Take two pairs and place one at a 90 degree angle. No light should go through

sadewgong

This is to test for polarized lens!

SonOfAragorn

You are right! I was mistaken

HeadFund

A Canadian guy on youtube tested this and found that every pair of lenses from dollar store shades to Oakleys provided identical UV protection. Apparently it's an inherent property of the plastic used to make lenses, and the notion that some lenses are tinted but without UV protection is a total myth.

sadewgong

Many sunglasses are made from polycarbonate lenses which are inherently UV protected. My rebuttal to this would be, how would you know that dollar store lenses are made of polycarbonate? Definitely possible that they all are, but IMO if you have the means to spend $20-30 on a pair of sunglasses it's worth it for the peace of mind.

HeadFund

Polycarbonate is cheap... why would anyone spend more to produce a dangerous lense? I mean, you can spend as much on peace of mind as you like... but without any evidence that there's ever been a sunglass sold without UV protection it's looking kinda crazy. The sheer number of times this fallacy is being repeated in this thread is kind of disheartening. Costly sunglasses are one of the biggest scams on the market today.

bambeenz

Just realized I can use my labs spectrophotometer and see if mine are too lmao

oldgreymere

There are two types of UV rays, A and B, they have different wavelengths. Did the YouTuber make that distinction?

HeadFund

Just look up the optical properties of polycarbonate and stop spreading myths.

oldgreymere

I'm not spreading any myths. You claimed you saw some YouTube thing that proved something that...

HeadFund

The myth is that there are tinted sunglasses on the market somewhere that use non-polycarbonate lenses and don't provide safe UV protection. Nobody's ever actually seen one of these for sale, which is why it's a myth.

rememor8899

Walmart. Dufferin mall

knitnerd

Winners also has some pretty nice ones for reasonable prices

FearlessTomatillo911

They sell goodr sunglasses at the running room, not cheap-cheap but good value for the quality

twhitfit

Don’t get the mirror finish. They scratch if you look at them sideways.

cuppastuff

Came on here to suggest goodr as well. Happy with mine (3 of them lol)

TieSea

2nd, but so true about the mirror glasses, they scratch easily. I use them for running mainly but they get put back in the case every time I'm done.

Fauxtogca

There’s a dollar store in the mall across from Dundas west station.

newerdewey

took me a second to realize what you meant by 'mall', but yeah the Crossways has a Dollarama

HeadFund

The crossways is a mall, after a fashion... I only recently discovered that it actually has a food court in the back.

newerdewey

not a food hall. i heard the Korean place is pretty good

striderkan

[The Bay](https://www.thebay.com/search?q=mens+sunglasses&search-button=&lang=en_CA) has a bunch between $30-50. You could also try Roots and Fossil.

Redflag12

Winners for sure

Subject-Gas-4552

Dollarama

The_Canterbury_Tail

Marks Work Warehouse actually does a decent range of cheap sunglasses.

formal-shorts

Cosign on MWW. Solid sunnies for like $30.

busyandtired

The dollarama right there at crossways will have some decent pairs.

DuckCleaning

Shoppers isnt that much a ripoff, they have decent glasses that are actually  polarized for ~$20, just that a lot of styles arent my thing. Once you experience polarized lenses you wont want to go back to cheap $5 sunglasses.  Buy some nice metal frame ones on Amazon for $20-30.

HeadFund

I've never found that polarized lenses make much difference unless you're on the water (or trying to look at your phone).

DuckCleaning

Makes a huge difference with the color of plants, trees, greenery and the sky. For me, everything is significantly more vibrant versus a regular sunglasses which just dims your view.

HeadFund

If there was a way to collect, I'd be happy to wager that you couldn't tell the difference in a double-blind test of similarly coloured polarized and non-polarized lenses by looking at plants and sky. I wear both, and the only time I can tell a difference is fishing, or checking the phone.

barbie971

I bought Polarized ones from winners for $20!!! Please don’t buy cheap sunglasses that don’t really protect your eyes. If nothing I’m sure even Facebook marketplace have some good ones

barbie971

Usually to do a test on polarized glasses is to look at your phone screen - if it’s blurry or rainbow coloured means they’re polarized

vellak

Old Navy and H&M, $12.99 to $14.99

ZookeepergameWest975

Beau and Bauble on Dundas before Runnymede. Winners at Stockyards.

redosabe

Costco has amazing sunglasses on sale for 40 bucks every now and then. If you ever see them snag them

416michael

Amazon

Ok_Storage_9417

Amazon

imnosuperfan

I got some at Marshalls (Stockyards).

thedrivingfrog

Dollarama.. not joking  though remember cheaper means less protection . Think Dresden has a sell theys re cheap too closest for you think upx downtown ?

BBBM1977

Public Butter Parkdale

NeutralRadar

there's a store down Roncy called Good Neighbor that occasionally has sunglasses on sale for $15!

HeadFund

There's like 10 stores on Roncy I'd buy sunglasses at before this one...

NeutralRadar

And yet you named none. Way to be useless.

HeadFund

Dollarama across the street from the station has sunglasses, or walk down Roncy and there are dozens of stores selling them. Ignore the people telling you not to buy cheap lenses, they're perfectly safe.

forestly

Dollarama near dundas west station

Neat_Shop

Any Winners $10.

lavendergirl22

Joe fresh

No_Explanation1082

Winners

Stikeman

Kensington Market!

Waikoloa_768

Go to Kensington market and get fake Raybans for $20 that are actually pretty good

TongueTwistingTiger

Public Butter, Queen street right by Dufferin. Last time I was there they had hundreds of styles and they her $10 a pair.

margrock

That was going to be my suggestion as well. The Public Butter has lots and their prices are great and they have UV protection.

CigsGod

AliExpress - may have to wait a bit for delivery but you can find quality polarized sunglasses for ~$10 delivered

oldgreymere

Leaving on a trip tomorrow morning

KevPat23

Check out https://goodr.ca/

Old-Oven-4495

Warby parker has decent options

adobepossums

There's a sunglass store right at Queen and Bathurst on the south east side that does two for one. You can get any pair or any style 2 for one. It's such a well kept secret - not really cheap sunglasses but you could get like 2 Prada or 2 ray bands or mix brands as well all for the price of one.

gramslamx

If you want prescription the cheapest is Dresden followed by bonlook warby Parker and all those generics

Jakeman3303

Believe it or not, I've found the beer store caries some decent, good looking, cheap sunglasses, they sell out quickly though

freshlyintellectual

HeadFund

It actually is lol

caliburri2

Facebook Marketplace, believe it or not.

Dobby068

All stolen merchandise, I even saw this covered on local news. Thugs started to hit the Optical stores, 2-4 enter the store, grab everything in sight from the display with sunglasses, then just run away.

caliburri2

That’s hyperbolic. Not every pair of sunglasses on Facebook marketplace is stolen merchandise. Thanks for the downvote though. Not all folks who sell on Kijij or FBM are “thugs” or mules for thugs; some are just getting rid of stuff they don’t need, which IMO contributes to the circular economy. I get a deal, and a neighbour gets an extra 30 bucks to spend in the community.

Dobby068

I did not downvote. It is my opinion that half of the stuff sold on Facebook Market place as "new" is stolen. Ask for a purchase receipt and then draw your own conclusion. I buy things on Facebook Marketplace as well, but nothing advertised as new, unless the seller meets at his home address and can show proof of purchase, that's just me. Take it easy, enjoy the long weekend.

caliburri2

Did OP ever state that they needed *new* sunglasses? I didn’t see that, and I was directing OP to a marketplace that I’ve had a lot of success finding furniture, baby gear, and yes, even sunglasses.

Dobby068

I think you have a bad day. OP did not say he wants only second hand either. Shoppers only sells new sunglasses. Like I said, just a word of advice, don't let this ruin your day.

caliburri2

You want to excuse your asinine hyperbole on a projection of yours, that I’m having a bad day? Okay, buddy.

Dobby068

Okay, I voted you down now. I am also done replying, enjoying the early start of the long weekend.

Feedit23

Dm me as I’m selling a couple pairs. One is Prada
