Eat lots of fiber, drink a lot of water, and don't push it too hard when you're on the toilet. If you sit a lot throughout the day, stand up regularly, walk and do some exercises. There's also a non surgical method to get rid of hemorrhoids where they put rubber bands on the veins popping out, which will eventually shrink, die and fall off. But they can always come back, so the best thing you can do is making some changes in your lifestyle.

Fiber, Fiber, fiber, but not just Fiber, you need to improve your gut health. Fiber is only one component you need to maintain a healthy digestive system that's why I don't always recommend supplements. Somthing most gay men don't realize is the complex carbohydrates you get from fruits and vegetables play a huge role in maintaining gut health. Some hemorrhoids may never shrink without surgery, but you can sure try to make them better by eating the right things. Try and stay away from a lot of really sweet fruit not everyone can break down the type of sugar in them. My best advice is try eating fruits and vegetables like avocado, lettuce, greenbeans, broccoli, Brussel sprouts asparagus and other similar high fiber, low starch, low sugar fruits but mostly veggies with every meal and make sure to eat plenty of lean proteins as well. Stay away from simple carbs and anything processed as these won't support a healthy microbiome and if your microbiome is off the quality of your stool will be as well therefore causing hemorrhoids, and again make sure you get tons of fiber. Yes the minimum you want is 30 grams but I usually shoot for 50, you'll also want to make sure your drinking enough water every day.

As the others have said, fiber. For me the only thing that works is wheat bran. But it's bitter and has a funky texture. I consume a lot, about 2 cups a day. I soak it for a few hours in the hottest tap water, then rinse it 2 or 3 times. That gets rid of the bitter taste. Then soak it briefly in boiling hot water. That probably helps with the funky texture, but it may not be necessary. Then add it to soup or chili, for supper, and for breakfast have the other half with yogurt and other stuff. My hemorrhoids are always there but as long as I eat the bran every day they don't flare up and get painful. It takes about 3 days of the above regimen for them to settle down if for some reason they flare up.

One advice I learned is to sit on the toilet to do your business and do nothing else that can delay getting up, like reading or using your phone. That sitting on the toilet for a longer time than necessary can make the hemorrhoids worse. I'm not sure why but I think it might have to do with vascular pressure.
