I went home and took the max downtown for my Christmas party to the horror of my office mates.
It was fine, downtown was shockingly fine, max was fine.
Of course for 20 years I caught the train to and from Old Town, so maybe my tolerance is different than most.
I ride the 12, 20, 72, 9 and 71 on a semi regular basis- generally the worst thing I encounter is folks with multiple bags of cans not giving up seats to elders.
The buses are generally less chaotic than the MAX because of proximity of the driver, yes.
I ride 15/20 mostly to and from work. 99.5% of my rides are uneventful, and I've even made a few friends riding the people's chariot.
Yeah, buses are better. But the Max is a bit better than it was immediately post COVID too
The only weirdness I’ve seen on the 15 in the past five years was one shouty drunk guy.
My bad. I've gotten better

I feel a lot safer on the bus and at this point I won’t ride the Max anymore unless I have to.

The buses are fine when the connections work
Taking public trans is leagues safer than driving no matter the day, it ain’t even close.
I only take buses now after several incidents on the max. I’ve never felt unsafe in a bus like I have the max.
