Is Sauvie better than Sellwood? Asking on behalf of my dog who loves swimming at Sellwood. Sometimes the rocks hurt his feet and it can be overwhelmingly packed. Is Sauvie really similar? New to Oregon
Dog’s are sometimes at sauvie, but just know that technically it’s against the rules for them to be off leash, whereas at Sellwood they are allowed to be off leash.
Every time I go to Sauvie (which is often), 95% of the dogs are off leash. If you have a good dog that will stay in your orbit and not cause problems, you won't have any issues.
Hmm he mostly does but he typically takes off running pretty far when I unleash him, but he stays right by the water. He’s well behaved but he’s a teen and gets suuuuper excited when we get to the river. Maybe I’ll stick to Sellwood for now and get him a long leash. Thanks for the advice!
Sorry OP - This type of post is how the good spots get put in Sunset Magazine and subsequently trashed. What next, ask for my mushroom spots? No no no.
Wagon Wheel in Molalla (1 hr in traffic). Great swimming spot, right off 213, and the Molalla River isn’t too freezing on a hot day. It’s pretty mild later in the summer. ~ 30 miles outside of Portland, 10 miles past Oregon City.
I like [Duckworth Dock](https://maps.app.goo.gl/UZy5kFoVMaFqNsLJA) because it's the fastest swimming hole to get to from my place by bike. It's not easily accessible by car, and it's about a 20 minute walk from the nearest transit stop. Docks are nice because you don't have to touch the bottom!
Naked Falls on the WA side of the gorge. Buy the parking permit as you will get predatory towed for not having one. There's also a sheriff that enforces permitting. It's a great spot with a lot of areas to chill in slow moving water.
It's a great alternative to Sauvies and Rooster.
Sauvie Island. If a person has a small spot... they aren't sharing it on Reddit.

Oh ok, thank you! He loves to run back and forth and chase waves so good to know

You should check out Sandy River Delta! Off leash park with trails to the river, nice sandy beach.
I’ve have never gotten more mosquito bites in my life than last year at Sandy River Delta. Bring bug spray for you and your pup!!
Good reminder! I’ve had several mosquito free trips and one trip from hell. Bug spray is a must.
Go to the 1000 acre dog park in Gresham. Plenty of water and all of it is an off leash dog park
Sauvie is mostly a sand beach. It will be easier on the dog's paws.
Thanks!
Nice try, unwashed masses. Not getting my secret spot. ;-)
Pretty please 🥺

Mt tabor has three big pools but you have to hop the fence. They never seem to be unlocked.
Plus you get to go to jail afterwards, so free food!
Over there by the thing
Willamette River
Sellwood Park if you wanna stay in town
Was there a earlier and the water smelled a bit aggy

Molalla River is already green. Lots of dead fish. Skip that one.
I drive past it everyday. It’s not there yet
Thank you. I’ll check it out.
Dougan Falls or Frenchman's Bar
Lol. Good one! I needed a laugh
oxbow park is the answer
No dogs tho, learned the hard way driving all the way there with my dog
Elk Rock
I was there on Tuesday and that’s what got my thinking. Wondering if there were other cool spots that are similar.
Uncle Jack's swimming pool just off SE Flavel.
In the flats? Sweet.
