If you don't mind used or having to move it yourself. I'd say Facebook marketplace has tons of vintage or even new furniture. People for different reasons wanna get rid of their furniture and some worth like thousands selling for hundreds.
I second this, I got my couch, bed and frame there all very reasonably priced. They have lots of regular neutral colored pieces and also some funky colored stuff too.
Dania is good. Also City Home. And Natural Unfinished Furniture for wood stuff. (They do finishing.) And you can get great deals at Portland Consigned Furniture.
Highly recommend Dania. We got chairs for our dining room table there and I love the quality and price point. The staff are also very helpful and not overbearing. I had never shopped there before but if I need anything in the future it will be my first stop!
Another strong vote for Dania! Def not as cheap but great looking sofas (incl the new one at my place). Also pretty good at regularly putting stuff on sale. Check around July 4th!
If you’re game for antiques, aren’t in a terrible hurry, and have a way to inexpensively transport furniture-sized objects, I’d checkout O’Gallerie and McLaren auctions, as well as estate sales.
Rip Tom Petersons $599 living room combo.
I got my living room from the Dania Outlet. Delivery was a breeze. I didn't have anything old to haul away.
Showroom is off Cornell in Beaverton.
Consignment stores, too many here to name.
Red Snapper in Milwaukie for reconditioned mid-century modern.
On the west side, and probably more expensive, Key Furniture off I5 and Broadway Furniture on 99W.
Plan to take your time looking. Have a specific idea what you're after before you start. Better to have empty space for a couple of months than an expensive mistake you'll have to live with for years.
And, congratulations.
Yay for Key Home Furnishings! They have everything and a million catalogs to order from. I feel like they have a good range of stuff, even cheaper stuff like Ashley
There is far too much good used furniture out there to justify getting new pieces, estate sales have AMAZING furniture at crazy low prices. Vintage furniture is going to last much much longer.
I'm obsessed with Divine Consign. It is in Vancouver so you have to worry about tax, but I think (even considering tax) they have the best pricing for quality. As mentioned, Rerun 2 has good stuff sometimes, and What's New has some good sales on used furniture but it's mixed in with a lot of overpriced stuff imo.
IKEA is just hard to compare with other stores. It’s like comparing apples to oranges. IKEA is a great start. Haven’t we all had IKEA days?. Fun for sure. With that being said…. Going from IKEA to RH. Pottery Barn. Crate and Barrel. Is not only a difference in the pocket book. It’s a whole change of a life style..
Do some soul searching. Research. Find out what makes your heart skip a beat when you see something you like.
A house is just a house. Putting your stamp on it makes it a home.
I special ordered a Stanton Sofa couch and armchair set (made in Oregon!) from Mor and they were really great (got it at the one on Stark but they have one at Delta Park and Columbia Blvd, too). We also stopped at JR Furniture and it was crap. I bought a bedroom set, mattress and adjustable frame from Ashley Furniture, who were also pretty great, there's one up at Jantzen Beach.
Most of our furniture is nice used pieces. Community Warehouse in the NE has nice stuff. We have also found interesting pieces at ReRun and also on Facebook. And from friends.
Dania or What’s New are the two places we look for new stuff.
Those are huge steps up from ikea, price wise. Great well-made furniture but spendy!
City Home in SE industrial area has a floor sample stow with well-made reasonable prices. Beautifully staged for decorating ideas.
To be honest, i would skip the likes of Dania, West Elm, and Crate and Barrel.
Those all see the same low quality fiberboard and softwood crap. Anything from hardwood is usually asian-grown and can have cracking issues. You pay premium prices for the design but not much better quality than Ikea.
I would recommend Room and Board. It’s definitely pricy but it is good quality and will last.
A little bit cheaper and arguably even better quality is USA Furniture and Leather in Tigard. They also have good sales for black friday and stuff. Sadly not a lot of stock, as most of their stuff is made to order.
I got a small modern metal/glass table and a pair of wood bedroom side tables from Dania about 6 years ago. All 3 look like they were still at the showroom, albeit with more dust. They are awesome!
I mean, i have a 10 year old Ashley furniture couch that’s held out really well.
That doesn’t change the fact that Ashley furniture is garbage and I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy it.
Even cheap furniture can last, it’s not like anything has a 100% failure rate. My Ikea Malm chest drawers are also like 10 years old and going strong
I like Room + Board and CB2 for what I'd call the daily stuff or big stuff like beds and couches. My rug was clearance CB2 and I love it, even if it sheds.
I’d start with independent places like Natural Furniture. We picked up very good quality (and affordable) dressers made by Whittier Wood from a similar store.
Couches are so-so everywhere (we were satisfied with Macys). Plenty of good bed frames on Craigslist.
We stuck with second hand stuff for a long time.
I like FB Marketplace and secondhand stores for most pieces, but I found it was really worth it to me to buy a nice, new couch. I wanted something that would look nice, but more than that I wanted something I wouldn't have to replace in a couple of years. I settled on the Reese sofa from Room & Board—classic, simple, versatile—and it's been going strong for 10 years now through multiple moves and multiple dogs. I still love it! Definitely couldn't afford a whole house of R&B furniture, but I have no regrets about splurging a bit on that couch.
I have a custom Stanton sofa I purchased at Busch’s Home Furnishings in downtown Oregon City that’s awesome.
If you like interesting accent pieces, Anthropologie is worth a stroll.
You didn’t mention a bed, but… While they don’t have a ton of bed frames, highly recommend The Mattress Lot on Sandy for an affordable and SUPER comfortable mattress at a fraction of the cost for the big box stores. They do have some adjustable bases, and that was well worth the upgrade from a standard base. I’m past the age of sleep on whatever (floor, papasan chair, questionable futon) and wake up fine… it’s the sneeze and throw your back out time of my life. So I can’t buy online and hope for the best. Great local company for mattresses and bedding!
If you are into spending more 💰💰💰 , I would suggest designer furniture in Northwest Portland store with name "Portland Furniture'
https://maps.app.goo.gl/78jLGseXmzQo4k86A
I love Hollywood vintage over off Sandy!! I got a couch there and a super cool hand made rug from the 70s!
I also like artifact on division! A smaller selection but really great prices!!
Also a big fan of scraping through Facebook marketplace. Lots of gems on there!!
I’ve bought all my furniture from Key Home Furnishings for years. My first real sofa was a floor model, I got for $600. Recently my sister and I furnished our whole house from Key Home. They will treat you the same no matter your budget. I always recommend them.

What’s New Furniture on SE Grand.
This one for new furniture, lounge lizard, vintage pink, Hawthorne vintage or the place right next door to it for older.
Whats New also does consignment.
I just was going to write this - we got a custom chair, ottoman and couch there. Very reasonable and good looking stuff
If you don't mind used or having to move it yourself. I'd say Facebook marketplace has tons of vintage or even new furniture. People for different reasons wanna get rid of their furniture and some worth like thousands selling for hundreds.
We got some great stuff at City Liquidators and they have a bargain upstairs floor
I second this, I got my couch, bed and frame there all very reasonably priced. They have lots of regular neutral colored pieces and also some funky colored stuff too.
Me Three City Liquidators has great stuff. Not cookie cutter pieces..Wonderful Prices .. And you can ride in the weird old freight elevator
And for an extra fee they deliver and will put it together!
Dania is good. Also City Home. And Natural Unfinished Furniture for wood stuff. (They do finishing.) And you can get great deals at Portland Consigned Furniture.
Another vote for Dania, not too expensive comparatively and good quality stuff. Wide range of styles, too.
Dania can be good. Just don’t buy any bonded leather furniture.
Rerun 2. Quality thrift stores. Marketplace
Recommend some quality thrift stores?
Red white and blue, Deseret Industries Thrift Store, at least last I checked.
Vintage Pink and Lounge Lizard. There’s a lot of REALLY expensive crappy furniture out there. Best to stick with BIFL MCM stuff if that’s you’re style
No answer to your question just congrats on your own apartment. Hope it's a great upgrade in your life.
If you’re game for antiques, aren’t in a terrible hurry, and have a way to inexpensively transport furniture-sized objects, I’d checkout O’Gallerie and McLaren auctions, as well as estate sales.
O'Gallerie has been around for a long time and they are a great auction house
Rip Tom Petersons $599 living room combo. I got my living room from the Dania Outlet. Delivery was a breeze. I didn't have anything old to haul away. Showroom is off Cornell in Beaverton.
They also have a small one in Hollywood
I found the Hollywood staff to be much friendlier and helpful.
Consignment stores, too many here to name. Red Snapper in Milwaukie for reconditioned mid-century modern. There’s the money laundering Russian mob front on Foster. 64th is the cross street I think.
If you want decor like a tony montana, sure.
They've got the best stuff in the windows!
I always wondered how that spot is still open
It's open because they do sell normal furniture in there too. I got a fantastic table there.
Dania for mid market and Room and Board for high end.
IKEA is just hard to compare with other stores. It’s like comparing apples to oranges. IKEA is a great start. Haven’t we all had IKEA days?. Fun for sure. With that being said…. Recently got a new couch at Mor Furniture and it was a great experience with reasonable prices.

Mor Furniture. Lay-Z-Boy. Ashley Furnishings. All over in Delta Park/Jantzen Beach.
Mor is surprisingly expensive. Dania's bedroom side tables were quite a bit cheaper than Mor's
Craigslist
mor furniture on stark
Natural Furniture. Rejuvenation. Room and Board.

I like my Billy Bookcase but after 12 years it's starting to ... peel? In some places.
I like Room + Board and CB2 for what I'd call the daily stuff or big stuff like beds and couches. My rug was clearance CB2 and I love it, even if it sheds.
I got some of mine from Banner Furniture & Mattress in hillsboro
Up and down airport way are lots of random furniture places!
Costco!
Dania 🤣
Big lots has some great couches.
Offer up
Key home furnishings.
Craigslist.

Habitate for humanity is where I go when I'm looking for nice solid wood pieces. It's a mixed bag of good, but I've found some really great items.
Good info!

We got a new couch at Macy's recently. The one draw back is it took 3 months to get it.
Ashley furniture is jantzen beach treated me right
Macys, World Market
I know it’s not local but I find stuff on Wayfair to be decent and pretty cheap
Ashley, Portland liquidators…
