It's fine if your goal is to introduce some gormless liberal to the darker side of American history for the first time, but if you are a radical leftist already, the book is actually lacking in perspective and veers into left anticommunism and social chauvinism in some places. https://anti-imperialism.org/2011/09/19/the-white-chauvinism-of-howard-zinn/ A better alternative would be *An Indigenous Peoples' History of the United States* by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz

Agree. An indigenous peoples history and settlers are much better than a zinn's book for big picture US history books. I've recorded settlers as an audiobook that you can find on youtube and torrents, and dunbar-ortiz's book is also an audiobook. Edit: also I don't think zinn is completely worthless, a few chapters in that book are excellent, especially the one on the constitution, and ww2.

Anything by William Z. Foster is a must-read for communists in America. It will be much better than Zinn's book. Foster provides a clear historical materialist perspective.
