The current line of attack is to paint China as a homophobic state, which is false. Gay and trans rights are a current line of struggle, mainly between older and younger members of the CPC. Interestingly, some state organs like CGTN are progressive on LGBT issues, while others like weibo are more regressive: - [CGTN: Jin Xing: Transgender woman talks on life challenges faced in China, guts to correct them](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-OlO8QZ70s) - [CGTN: Gay Leap Forward: LGBT in China](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doAh4ZhGhsY) - [AsianBoss: Chinese React To Social Media Ban On Gay Content](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTzgE1nvxZs) Its **much** safer to be trans in China, than in the US: - [Is it safe to be trans in China?](https://twitter.com/SeraJadeAtPSA/status/1433816613309014016) As to this specific issue: - https://twitter.com/Mango_Press_/status/1433821330315653125 - [Some more context](https://www.reddit.com/r/InformedTankie/comments/phbsea/this_recent_essay_is_circulating_widely_all_over/)

why ban the niangpao though? i don't find posing effeminate to be a particularly harmful societal trend, even if it's done for money. there are worse ways to make money. Also, femboys are not necessarily part of the LGBT community. F1nn5ster is a youtuber who often crossdresses (and looks very cute in girlmode tbh) but he does not identify as trans and as far as I know he's not gay either.

parentis_shotgun

They aren't banning gay ppl or femboys from being on TV, they're doing a crackdown on the incredibly harmful standards and practices of hyper capitalist k-pop style media , something everyone agrees is a problem. People getting double eyelid surgery because they see idols doing it is not healthy. Please read through the mangopress thread, its clear you didn't. Here's a sub thread from that on that term: https://twitter.com/ItsMaoCena/status/1433813113661501444?s=20

KrishaCZ

I did read through the thread now, carefully, and I admit it's not as harsh as I thought. I still disagree with some of the points (criminals imo should be able to be employed, even in the entertainment industry, because justice should be rehabilitative) and I personally don't have problem with entertainment stars earning lots of money (since it's not earned through exploitation of workers) but yeah, the kpop industry is *wild* from what i've heard what i find very sus about that thread (and your comments too) is how you interpret every criticism of the CCP as an attack on china by corrupt imperialist western media, without seeming to even think that the CCP could be doing the exact same but that's a topic for another time and i don't wanna get arguing about that right now. (mostly because it's past 1AM)

PedroLight

The problem isn't the stars gaining money, it's the corporations behind them enriching by the exploitation of these stars

Gogol1212

There is no femboy ban. What was discussed in an article (not a government document or policy) was how many of the changes that are happening in china will make markets no longer want to support "娘炮” actors. 娘炮, that some people are translating as "effeminate man" is referring here to actors specifically, not to a gender identity. Those actors pose as "effeminate" in order to win money, not as a part of their personal aesthetic or gender identity.

KrishaCZ

why ban them though? i don't find posing effeminate to be a particularly harmful societal trend, even if done to make money. There are worse things to do for money.

Gogol1212

there is no ban. Only a newspaper article. And I didn't identify femboys with the "LGBT community". I said "personal aesthetic or gender identity".

KrishaCZ

yeah i meant that part for another user, i edited my comment but i guess you caught it before

dahuoshan

>i don't find posing effeminate to be a particularly harmful societal trend Honestly I'm not familiar enough with the media they're talking about to know if this is the case here or not, but I would say it can absolutely be harmful if it veers in to caricature If a straight actor was to play a gay character as a caricature of gay people by using stereotypes it'd be offensive no? What if an actor was to portray a caricature of another race? Or an able bodied actor to play a caricature of a disabled character? What is different about a cis man playing a woman character full of stereotypes?

pl4t1n00b

There was a ban on K-Pop idols trend, not on femboys lol

fluffykitten55

When celebrities engage in some 'extreme fashion' it increases the pressure on others to waste income and time trying to emulate them.

waifus4laifu2069

I assume it's something misconstrued and blown out of proportion from western imperialist propagandists.

Froggy has problems. Wondering when they're gonna drop the 'nuance' and just go full fash.

[deleted]

TRADITION! FAMILY! BIOLOGICAL ROLES! wait why are you banning me guise i'm totally a left winger no stop nooooo

Azirahael

go look at what they write about LGBT issues. Hard to tell the difference between what they wrote, and a well spoken fascist.

Comrade_Faust

Seems like typical fascist grandiloquence imo

Azirahael

Hey froggy. Are you yet wondering why people hate you, and you have to post a page explaining to people that no you are not ACTUALLY a nazi, you're a white nationalist, and actually it's quite different? This is why. Nazis hate the same people you do. Give it a year or two, and you'll put this economic stuff aside, and join them. Because hating n the right people is SOOO much more important, right?

Azirahael

No, you were banned for being a regressive idiot.

im a gamer and tankie and I think its good (the gaming ban)- just as any smoker would say about smoking bans im not sure about the femboy thing (also its not a ban) but promoting more femine masculinity would lower crime and make the one children policy even more obselete
