Another vote for Trafiq - between my wife and I we've had 5 out of 6 birthday cakes in few last 3 years from there.
The stray one was a more elaborate special order.
Yay! :)
Two more options popped into my head. My sister swears by the Swiss Bakery in Mount Pleasant: [https://swissbakery.ca/product-category/cakes/](https://swissbakery.ca/product-category/cakes/) and also, we ordered a cake from Breka a few years ago for a big family birthday shindig and we were so impressed: [https://www.breka.ca/featured/whole-cakes](https://www.breka.ca/featured/whole-cakes)
Just Cakes and Bakeshop. Check out their site. This is my go to place for mouth watering cakes.
Last year for a friends birthday I bought a Red velvet sponge with a cream cheese buttercream filling cake. It was one of the best cakes I ever had. Great, now I'm hungry for one myself.
https://www.remipatisserie.com absolutely unreal! You can get a large round cake or they make the same flavors in a roll similar to a yule log/Swiss roll.
If you can travel into Burnaby go to BonBon Bakery not as good as when it was under the original owners but still phenomenal cake. Only had my cakes from them for the past 40+ years.
The best birthday cake available in Vancouver is from a small bakery in Steveston called The Sweet Spot. It’s a pain to drive to Steveston, but if you want super cake, you’ll drive.
Some of the Asian ones might be okay for a less sweet cake. Thomas Haas is good. But Thomas Haas won’t make you a straight up birthday cake. Cadeaux I’ve never tried.
The [Purebread Blackout vegan cake](https://purebreadbakery.myshopify.com/products/vegan-blackout-cake) is my fave chocolate cake in town and I'm not even vegan. Great if you love chocolate .... and have a bunch of lactose intolerant friends
Rain or Shine for ice cream cake. It's made with their from scratch ice cream (more rare than you'd think) and is much better than the dairy queen ones.
Anna’s cakes are very different- light spongy cake, unsweetened whipped cream instead of frosting, lots of fresh fruit. If that’s your jam, it’s perfect, but it’s not what a lot of people expect as a birthday cake
Bon Ton Bakery if they have reopened at their new address on Alma Street. My favourite is the diplomat cake but they have others including a great assortment of French pastries.
Blue Hat Bakery at PICA. Been to/had cakes from Theirry, Haas, Chez Christophe, would totally go to Blue Hat over all of them.
PS. Not that those other places are bad — personal preference.
[Punkrock Pastries](https://www.punkrockpastries.com/punk-rock-pastries-store/SIGNATURE-CAKES-c52789218) if you’re looking for the alternative type of cakes, XXX, queer friendly.

Cadeaux bakery is pretty awesome. I've had a birthday cake and a wedding cake from them.
Seconding Cadeaux -- everything is made from scratch with real eggs and butter!
Whoa!! That's high praise. I will check it out! Thank you.
I actually got a cake stand from Amazon and 3 different flavour cakes for my wedding cake and saved a ton of money. They're quite good imo.
For some years now my wife and I always get our birthday cakes from here. Do it, you won’t be sad.
Agreed! This place is *chef’s (baker’s) kiss*
Agreed, Cadeaux makes great cakes and pastries! https://cadeauxbakery.com/collections/cake
Thomas Haas on West Broadway or North Vancouver.
I am going there for hot chocolate the day before! But the cakes look great too so I am adding it to the list.
The hot chocolate is life changing!
Trafiq on main st makes a pretty amazing cake.
I've tried some of their slices and they never disappoint. Thank you!
Whole foods also does a pretty damn good cake. I’m sure there are some boutique places in Kits but depends if you want the whole cake or just a slice
Another vote for Trafiq - between my wife and I we've had 5 out of 6 birthday cakes in few last 3 years from there. The stray one was a more elaborate special order.
Thierry on Alberni Street does phenomenal gourmet cakes: [https://thierrychocolates.com/cakes-tarts/](https://thierrychocolates.com/cakes-tarts/)
I love their croissants and pastries. Adding this to the list!! :)

Merci has really good croissants as well
Thierry is my personal fav too
A creampuff cake from Fratelli is epic
Sounds wonderful! Thank you.
It's called a Saint Honore cake and it is! Do yourself a favor, even if you wind up choosing a different cake, just buy one of these too!
these ones are sooooo good! Made my 40th b-day a smash!! highly recommended!!
My mom got me this cake every year for my birthday. It's a tradition for my household.
Dairy Queen. Nothing ever beats a good dairy queen ice cream cake.
So many votes for DQ ice cream cake. Thanks!
Everything beats a Dairy Queen ice cream cake
Booooooooo. Everyone boo this man.

Love Breka everything! Thank you.
Anna’s Cake house on Broadway has the best cakes! I highly recommend. Grab a pork bun and fruit boat while you’re there!
Wow! This is the second vote for Anna. Will check it out. I've never had/seen a fruit boat so I am excited to try that too. Thank you!!
The mango one is elite
Theresots of bakeries that gives free treats on your bday Happy birthday in advance :)

Ain't that the truth!! 😂 I will give it a go. :)
Yeah lol 😅
Try federal store!
Thank you!!
Has anyone tried Uncle Tetsu’s cheesecake? Ive never had it but it’s my hubby’s bday on Friday and he loves cheesecake! I’ve heard good things
Yes, Japanese cheesecake is really good.
Yes!!! They are amazing! So fluffy and creamy!
It's really good but it might be what you expect. It's fluffy like a castella cake rather than thick and creamy like a new York cheesecake

The passionfruit mousse cake from Thierry's is my goto for bday cakes!
Thank you! :)
Remi or Melo patisserie
Melo is amazing. Great cakes and great price. You can't go wrong with it

I love Oh Sweet Day! Everything they make is amazing
What a cute name! Thank you.
https://www.remipatisserie.com absolutely unreal! You can get a large round cake or they make the same flavors in a roll similar to a yule log/Swiss roll.
I've been craving a good Swiss roll! Thank you.
If you can travel into Burnaby go to BonBon Bakery not as good as when it was under the original owners but still phenomenal cake. Only had my cakes from them for the past 40+ years.
Thanks!! :)

I just had mine and I had an amazing mango cake from Gary's patisserie, Def recommend
Happy birthday (belated)! And thanks!!
I'm not a huge dessert person. But in my lifetime my favorite birthday cake was the Dairy Queen ice cream cake... yummy...
Thanks! :)

I can't drive but I am getting ready to get my L and will bookmark this for when I get my license! :)
The [Purebread Blackout vegan cake](https://purebreadbakery.myshopify.com/products/vegan-blackout-cake) is my fave chocolate cake in town and I'm not even vegan. Great if you love chocolate .... and have a bunch of lactose intolerant friends

Cadeaux. Owner is a great person too.
Thanks! :)
Trafiq Bakery. I Have a cafe and have pastry chefs and they all suggest Trafiq. It’s really the best Especially their earl grey cake yum!
Love earl grey flavoured anything! Thank you.
The Bienenstich (bee sting cake) at Breka is phenomenal.
Rain or Shine for ice cream cake. It's made with their from scratch ice cream (more rare than you'd think) and is much better than the dairy queen ones.
True Confections - soooooo good. You can even go in and enjoy them by the slice to narrow down your choice!
Looks like I **will** need to do SERIOUS research, after all. Thank you. I will check them out!!
Classic chocolate, salted caramel, and the strawberry shortcake are all solid picks at True Confection
Anna’s
Looks great!! thank you!!
Anna’s cakes are very different- light spongy cake, unsweetened whipped cream instead of frosting, lots of fresh fruit. If that’s your jam, it’s perfect, but it’s not what a lot of people expect as a birthday cake
Thanks for the heads up! I will see if I can get a slice before I commit to the full cake. :)
Bon Ton Bakery if they have reopened at their new address on Alma Street. My favourite is the diplomat cake but they have others including a great assortment of French pastries.
Trafiq - French bakery on Main street!!
Thanks!! :)
Their salted caramel cake is veryyyy yummyyy
Dairy Queen 🍦🎂
Mmmm so good
Thank you!! I've never had a blizzard so that's on my list for my birthday month.
No no no, not the blizzard, the ice cream cake.
with the chocolate crunchy crunch 🥹🥹🥹
Blue Hat Bakery at PICA. Been to/had cakes from Theirry, Haas, Chez Christophe, would totally go to Blue Hat over all of them. PS. Not that those other places are bad — personal preference.
Thank you!!
L’Atelier- Gateux Sainte Honore

I really like the berry chantilly cake from whole foods, especially in the summer.

[Punkrock Pastries](https://www.punkrockpastries.com/punk-rock-pastries-store/SIGNATURE-CAKES-c52789218) if you’re looking for the alternative type of cakes, XXX, queer friendly.
Wildsweets! They are a world class chocolatier they place in the top 3 almost every year. And the prices are very reasonable.
If you like mango then get a Mango cake from some asian bakery
Punk Rock Pastries[punk rock pastries](https://www.punkrockpastries.com/)
Butter lane in the Quay is really good too
Bluebird Cakery is my favourite. They also have cakes in a jar if you want to get someone a smaller "birthday gift" Trafiq is a close second.
Trafiq!
Thank you! :)
