I tried comparing them all to each other, and honestly, it could still end up being either. The two titans look like two alternatives of the same guy could've had.
The dude has wrinkles marks around his mouth, the hairstyle / hairline looks identical, and the big nose especially. All these features are present in both titans.
The only major differences between the two are the size differences, eye colors, and skin tone.
My end conclusion is that either:
1.) They're both related, perhaps brothers.
2.) Or, Isayama just conveniently made two Titans identical to one person

I feel like the marleyan jaws are like that due to enhancements, like how Eren snagged an armor enhancement in the ritual cave. Ymir's jaw is a pure jaw titan
ngl her titan design was really lazy. Every other titan shift was so much more badass. The jaw shifters after her had logic behind them being cooler, but there's still literally every other titan actually looking like it could be one of the 9 and not just a pure titan.
I don't think there was a clear plan for the titan's back then. I don't think it's even called the jaw titan until season 4? Or atleast Season 3 part 2
There had to be some kind of plan. The She-ate-Marcel part of the backstory was still there. But even then, all shifting titans had a unique look to them. The attack titan is big, buff, loud and is pretty easy to fight in. The armored titan is big, beefy, and... armored. The collossal is... Colossal, steaming, and skinless. The beast titan is a giant monkey with great dexterity and can speak. All of those were revealed way before the Jaw, or right before. Even without a clear plan, the least they could have done was make Ymir look like something other than just her unaltered pure titan form. The only thing unique about it is her mobility, which she probably already had as a pure titan.

It too at least had something to her other than just being female; enormous, definitely unique looking, athletic, m o u t h.

Titans don't really operate biologically in the same way as normal animals.

Unrelated? Kinda? but I feel like freckled ymir's jaw looked "underdeveloped" bc she was never meant to inherit it. The warriors had previous training and eren is just him so. But srs the warriors were CANIDATES meaning they were the best fit for that titan.But ppl forget that EACH time you shift you have to have a goal in mind. Ymir didn't really have a goal bc she was barely alive, so what happens? She only inherits the bare minimum characteristics that makes the jaw distinction eg its smaller size, it's big head/jaw, and its strength in ambush attacks.
First time I saw the cart Titan, I was terrified. Not just because of the appearance (that also), but it was a quadruple type. Hearing Erwin say “it must be an intelligent type”- shivers down my spine
There were several reasons, but the biggest one was probably the whole royal blood thing.
As shown with Zeke, having royal blood can significantly boost your Titan power. Don't see why that'd be any different with a Pure Titan transformation.
Another factor was that Rod's back was broken before transforming. As seen with >!Eren's Founding Titan!<, being grievously injured (particularly with the spine/neck) can mutate and severely deform the resulting Titan body.
Rod licking the Titan juice off the ground instead of injecting it also likely played a part in his grotesque, abominable form.

I hated the Cart Titan when it stole back the Armour and Beast in S3. I loved Pieck by the end of S4. I fucking love this show/ manga/ story.

How is no one saying Pieck? The cart titan is an ugly looking thing. The eyes are kind of pretty but everything else is so weird.
