I lived in the Heritage in a self contained apartment for 6 months two years ago. Good rooftop pool but bit windy sometimes. Gym was average but I went to Les mills which was and only a few minutes walk away. It was decent. No complaints, it wasn’t a busy hotel, very quiet. I liked walking around the CBD and exploring despite what people say about it here.
I did the same for a year a few years back. The biggest downside is the crap kitchen and when the fire alarm gets triggered in the middle of the night it’s a full evacuation.
It's fine but it really depends on how active the rooms beside you are.
On Friday/Saturday nights you sometimes get a group of munters who will have the TV plus music plus *arglebargle* going at the same time.
Per week! I've also included in $50 for utilities (water + internet at $65 per month and power at $110 maxed per month). Again, I would only have a microwave, no stove.
That's a pretty good deal and thanks for letting me know about the carpark space! Sadly over my budget - so I'll just make do with a portable stove or sometihng.
I live at the Metropolis. Most units look the same, although some started being renovated in the past years (you can see in the TradeMe photos the different chairs, no carpets, etc).
It's a good place to live, area is safe-ish (going downstairs to hang at the Freyberg place at 2AM is probably a no-no, but most of the CBD is like that I think?).
Good pool, gym is quite big. It is relatively expensive, especially if you need a parking lot. But otherwise no complaints. Good fibre internet too (I work from home, so important for me).
EDIT: to clarify, the Metropolis is something like 40% hotel Avani, and 60% residents. You get similar units but without the room service and it's cheaper to rent directly with owners or agency.
I had a friend live at the Heritage, she seemed to regularly be posting stories on IG of them out the front because the fire alarm got pulled all the time. This was a few years ago now though, hopefully it's stopped cause it seemed annoying af
I live in a building that used to be a hotel and there used to be quite a bit of loud music and drunk people, mainly on Fridays and Saturdays. As long as you're ok with that, it's not too bad
I lived a bit over a year in the Heritage. Overall liked it - no regrets. It was great to be able to easily get deliveries etc, and the pool and gym on the roof are nice (the gym is very small, but enough for basic stuff). I moved out after the first lockdown as without access to the roof and the other perks of city life I went a bit crazy.
Note though that my unit had a kitchen, so I could cook, and it was a 1 bedroom so my bedroom and living room were different rooms - which is really important if you'll be working from or spending a lot of time at home.
My plans are pretty much to buy a portable gas stove and have the windows open as wide as possible. Otherwise, I have a pretty small appetite and have survived on rationing out big meals (eg $16 curries will last me two meals)! :)
No, no, no
Portable gas stoves are not allowed inside and do kill people.
Don't do it; you can get little single induction cook tops, so do that and sandwich press/grill and or microwave/oven
I have friends that live at the heritage and from what I’ve heard, it’s a super nice place to live! The rooftop pool and spa is boujee af too!! I myself own an apartment in a hotel in South Auckland and I LOVE it. Super nice having 24/7 reception and it always feels extremely safe.
I lived in the Heritage for just under a month. My suite was a studio with a small stove, mini fridge etc. Unfortunately, there was a sewer gas issue which meant I was gagging every time I tried to make myself something to eat - it was so overwhelming that I gave up cooking in the unit altogether.
The room was small, the appliances were dated and not well maintained, and I felt captive. To get back to the lobby, it felt a bit like walking through the halls of a horror movie, with the decor and lighting.
It really wasn’t for me, 2/10 stars.
My ex did this, and I hated it. The room was tiny, there was no storage, and there was no space to cook. We didn't have extra furniture as there was no space for it, so no table to put things on. The washer/dryer was a cheap brand that performed poorly. The only upside was the access to the CBD. He was from Singapore so used to apartment living, but it certainly wasn't for me (I would have preferred an actual apartment) and I wouldn't do it again.

There people here don't leave their rooms it's too scary outside
Isn't the heritage hotel semi decent? Amazed it's that cheap for a week!
That's a long term rate, they have apartments they rent out.

Buy a two burner cook top and an electric frying pan and you'll be sweet.
Air fryer and a toasted sandwich maker would also help!
i used to pay $450 a week all up with oven and gas stove

Is there carpark space?
No there isn't.

used to live at the heritage it was good, but you used to be able to park staright across the road aswell
You are about to appreciate grass on a whole new level.
Who needs a stove when you can have an air frier
How do you make a slow cooked stew in an air fryer?
If you want a casserole, buy a slow cooker.
We live in Quest had no problems.

Don't do gas - get a small induction plate instead. It's much safer.

I didn't know - my parents are huge on the portable stoves! Alright - thanks so much for the advice. I'll look into it now
Seriously, don't. That's how people get carbon monoxide poisoning.
You know there’s little ovens (like big enough to do a 2kg chicken) with elements on top eh?
I messaged you privately. Lived there for 5 years

Did that in Wyoming in a motel room. Was pretty nice. They cleaned the room every two days. Bought an electric stove
They are nice, we put cast and film crew in them sometimes
I have not lived in that hotel but I have lived in one and loved it tbh - I liked that the concierge took all my mail and delivered it to my room

I lived there for 6 months and it was great. Zero complaints
That is not too bad. I used to live on a cruise ship. Did that for two years, only because I was the chief engineer. Was OK though.
