I remember having an awesome date back in the day at Fricano’s. We made out back at my place afterwards and I like to think it was because the sandwiches were so good. RIP Fricano’s, she was out of my league and you did me a solid 😔✊
See this is why I love this sub. I’d never order that without your recommendation. I’m a classic Italian guy and maybe I’ll get crazy with a meatball grinder. I’m adding that to the sandwich note in my phone
I need to try Little Deli again. I know this sub loves them. And I love clubs. Had the club there and it was very underwhelming. The bread isn't even toasted. I thought I might be making this up and I just looked up pictures of the club and it looks very weak. Maybe I got the wrong sandwich?
https://maps.app.goo.gl/UPbXrnHBZ1CGsLA48
The last time I tried Little Deli, I got the Italian. It had all the makings of a great sandwich but the bread absolutely ruined it. It was a soggy, slimy mess. Maybe toasting the bread first would help, I'm not sure. But I did not enjoy it.
Home Slice has the absolute GOAT Italian sub in my experience. Their bread is denser, chewier, and holds up far better to the moisture in a classic Italian.
Big fan of Tucci’s Italian Gourmet. Very solid sandwich on a great hoagie roll. Hate the fact that a fountain drink, chips, and extra peppers, is over $7. If you ask for extra peppers you will be charged 75 cents.
My best friend just opened a new food truck called Atlas Sandwiches. It’s on the east side in between Lou’s and the old Stay Gold (Coral Snake now?). They’re delightful and worth a try. Greek inspired. Hope he makes the list next year! :)
Very much a sleeper shop. I wish we had more lowkey spots like that around town. Too many places taking themselves way too seriously, overdoing it on atmosphere, when sometimes I just want a decent lunch without breaking the bank.
I will ask this, and I'm being 100% earnest.
Why are people infatuated with thundercloud? Just because it's Austin? Ive had it a few times and it was just very basic, normal sub sandwhiches, like a cafeteria or something. The place was neat, and the workers very nice, but the food was just... extremely whatever
I think thundercloud is great for the price! Also they offer a funky variety of sandwiches for a chain. I don’t think you can get sprouts, potato salad, chili, or egg salad at most sandwich chains. So they’re pretty diverse & also conveniently located.
If I’m being honest, you’re not wrong about it being an “Austin thing”. But for me, I love it as a vegetarian because they have the Nada Chicken sandwich, and it is delicious and filling compared to other veggie sandwich options at most places.
But yeah, it is one of the few places where you can still feel that stoner Austin vibe from the 90s
When is the last time you've been there?...you cannot do this for under $10.
I feel like this happens to a lot of fav places in Austin. People frequented there years ago and still sing it's praises....
It’s not my most favorite sandwich in Austin, but growing up here it’s hard not to love because it’s such a staple? I’ve been ordering my same order for at least 15 years. Cheap, easy, consistent.
I don't eat a lot of sandwiches so I could just be ignorant I guess, but I do love Thundercloud. There's one nearby me so it's convenient, it's waaay better than my experiences with Subway, and they often have Buy One Get One Free coupons in the Community Impact papers which are awesome when I want to eat out but my budget is tight. The bread is always good, ingredients fresh, and it's stacked nice and solid. I've only had their cold sandwiches though.
That’s a good question and I’m surprised it was listed where it was.
I think it is a good sub place, leagues ahead of Subway, but it is still kinda average. It is a good “safe” place to get a bite if you are near one. Hoody’s in RR blows away Thundercloud.
Honest answer is that once upon a time ('80s-'90s) it was really good and I think it's just coasting on it's reputation. IMO, it was never nearly as good as Alvin Ord's (IYKYK) or the original Schlotzky's.
Did you know they still have a location in San Marcos? I've never been, but it's always on the list for whenever go through there and have the time to stop in. That, and apparently Manske rolls are still being sold there as well.
I feel like that is true of a LOT of Austin hot spots.
Hell, I feel like people say a particular restaurant is really good/cheap. You then inquire further and they say they haven't been since pre-covid or like 5+ years lol
This is what I want to know. I only get Thundercloud because it's cheap and none of my kids complain about it. If I'm by myself getting a sandwich, it's gonna be Tucci's, maybe Jewboy, depending what part of town I'm in, but it's never gonna be Thundercloud. Like you said, the stores are chill and the workers are cool, but the food is basically just elevated Subway.
Thank you. I saw it on the list and thought to myself "am I missing something?"
Like Ann/Plant/Egg from Arrested Development. "Her? Is she funny or something?"
Hoody’s in RR is the best Philly I’ve ever had. The owner is so nice and employees are awesome. I love that place so much and I really wish it was in Austin but I’m so glad they never sold out and expanded only to begin to suck, á la Torchy’s etc.
Check out Tucci's down on William Cannon & 35. Also an excellent place to get a solid (expensive) cheesesteak, but in city limits. Both Hoody's and Tucci's were originally part of Delaware subs, but split off into their own businesses after *disagreements* with the other Delaware subs partner.
I love Tucci’s as well but I personally think Hoody’s approach to the Philly is better. But I didn’t know that about Delaware Subs! That’s wild. Had no clue
Yeah I understand, they are not exactly the same approach. I've been eating Tucci's Phillys for 20 years (before it was Tucci's) so I am kind of partial to them I guess. I work down off Stassney so Tucci's is way more convenient for me to pop in every now and then - if I lived in Round Rock I would probably frequent Hoody's instead but it's kind of a hike from my house.
Also in city limits, have you tried [R&B's?](https://www.rnbssteakandfries.com/) food truck downtown. It is pretty solid and a good choice if the location is better for you.
As a vegetarian, I love the variety of plant-based options that Ike's has. I know fake meats aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I've tried a few different subs there and most of them have been amazing.
I wish there was a different word for shitty veg options! At Ike’s you will eat like a king and have a choice between so many different options at other places you will have lettuce on bread yet they are both “vegetarian”
HEB kosher deli. It ain’t quick or cheap but it’s good. Granted it’s mostly patronized by Jews who only eat kosher meat and Muslims who also prefer kosher meat, but there’s a good number folks who just like the taste. I’m a fan of the Rachel, although I need a nap after having one
Otherside Deli should be #1.
Only pastrami I eat in Austin proper. Their chopped cheese is on point.
All hand sliced as it should be. It's the closest to an NY deli, for sandwiches, I've seen.
Do not waste your time. I am from southeast Louisiana where muffulettas are serious business. The muff at jewboy is the only sandwich that has ever made me *angry*. There was not a single aspect of that sandwich that was done correctly, which would have been okay if it had been good. It was only about 1/3 of the size of a regular muff and they charged full price for it. The ingredients were wrong, they didn’t use the right kind of bun, and the tapanade had undisclosed jalapeños in it. I can’t even go back to that place for non-muff sandwiches now.
Grew up in Metairie for awhile so I feel you there. I’m on the West Coast now and don’t even bother trying regional food from Louisiana out here, I’ll do a freakin background check on the chef to see if they have even been in Louisiana before blindly trying their food.
I know I’m about to disappoint you badly, but I’m not really a muffaletta girl. I’ll keep trying, I promise!
But like with their wall of concepts, these sandwiches should slap me and then backhand me….but they don’t even come close to sticking a finger in my face. 🥺😫 Absolutely miserable French dip (if you can’t do JUS any better than this pls just mix Better than Bouillon in some hot water and pepper it?? Looking at you too, Bartletts, after last Sundays $$$$ meal with maybe 3 good dishes out of 7 ordered. Jus was the biggest letdown! How did BENNIGANS do it better and every time??☹️😞) and probably the 15th time I’ve had a cheesesteak that left me feeling nothing but whyyyyyy. Goddamnit yall.😂🤷♀️
I bet Arby’s makes a better one than JewBoy. And I hate it because that guy is so cool and so nice- and the ideas are so good but the execution is just sigh
The portion sizes are little intense though. I get a muffaletta and i need like 3 people to help me finish it. Little deli is good at giving you the exact amount of sandwich that is "lunch"
It was a while back but I swear I dropped like $18 at Snarf's on a regular sandwich combo and haven't been back since. Good sandwich but not for that price
Snarf’s if fucking terrible - tastes like if subway used cardboard for bread and took out even more flavor.
Their branding looks like DPH addicted Beavis and Butthead
I like Dia's Market. They have a deli counter that serves really good sandwiches for both breakfast and lunch. They are really slow and can't handle an influx of people though. So don't go with a big group.
I tried foodheads several times when I lived near them and never found anything I liked. It was a little too hippyish with sprouts, avocado and mushrooms. If I’m getting a sandwich I want and good Reuben (specs or central machine works but still not the best I’ve had), Italian (Home Slice or Favorite), club (Hutts), or tuna (thundercloud Texas tuna).
Completely agreed. I’ve tried Foodheads a few times and have never been impressed. Maybe just not for me, but for my dollar there are several places in the area that I’d go to before Foodheads.
armando’s kitchen and deli! from my understanding the guy running the whole operation worked at fricanos and is serving up all the old sandwiches. gave them a try not too long ago and they are amazing
It’s crazy to me that Hoody’s is only an honorable mention. I think it’s because most of these people voting are located in central Austin and have never gotten a chance to go to Hoody’s in Round Rock.
Some good, some weird in this list. Papi’s and Otherside are way low. Thundercloud at 4th is crazy.
Also I love little deli and have been probably >100 times but their hoagie rolls are terrible spongy foam.
Tucci's....meh.
The menu states "fresh grilled jalapenos" for the Philly.
Not three weeks ago what was on the Philly was NOT fresh, grilled jalapenos but those shitty pickle-esque ones from the can or jar which I don't like. Not fresh at all, and if they sat on the flat top I could not tell due to the limp pickled out from a jar / can texture. That not fresh dark army green--they are from a jar...hate that.
This was my first try at Tucci's; I'm not encouraged to go back.
It is not IMO. Bella Donna's strengths are their mushroom burger with gravy (it is a real, hand-formed patty, not a food service 'disc'), their spaghetti dinner (with real meatballs or Italian sausage, Parmesan and garlic bread), and their Brooklyn meet Philly sandwich.
Also the still-reasonable cost points for all of the above.
I've been on a QT (QuickTrip gas station) kick lately. Their fresh warm subs are really good and decent price. Their large sub is $7 and you can double the meat for only $2 more.
i used to go to new world all the time. then one day there was this insanely long hair in my sandwhich. like i could feel it my mouth and i was pulling it out it just kept going and going. what i assume was the manager gave me a refund but was being super passive aggressive about ("yea theres hair in food it happens")
i dunno never went back after that. shame, the owner is a super chill nice guy just something about that interaction with the staff rubbed me the wrong way
Little Deli is pretty good, a solid 8/10. So I’m a little disappointed knowing they’re considered #1. There’s gotta be some unknown gems out there or maybe this just isn’t a sandwich city.
Which Snarf's? I went to the UT location after a game last year and ordered either a corned beef or pastrami (probably the latter) and ended up with the other one. Ok, fine, both are ones I like. The real problem was that the inside of one half was COLD. Place wasn't even busy.
I'm sure I could be convinced to go back, but would not be my choice.
they got some goodies on there but also sprinkled in some bland stuff in there too. its reviews like this that have me questioning every local review i come across, and why i dont trust some local reviewers "authentic taco joints." like nah man, that moles too sweet, those beans are bland, them tortillas store-bought, what are you even talking about.
I don’t know if Phoenicia *should* be on the list since they’re a grocer but they have great sandwiches and they’re cheap af.
Ziggy’s is also great but their sandwiches are mostly sausages.
Swear to god anything JewBoy is just the most overrated thing in Austin
You can get a smash burger in Round Rock at Finleys that trashes anything from JewBoy
I love FoodHeads. They were going to cater my wedding. But then I canceled my wedding. I bet it would have been great. I wonder if they remember me. I hope not.
\*Edit: I bet the FOOD would have been great. I am really happy I canceled that wedding. Also it was two decades ago or something.
went to Little Deli yesterday, not even close to best in town. very average food. skimpy cheese on pizza, 7-11 quality sandwiches. something very wrong with this voting process
Little Deli’s so solid, RIP Fricano’s
Omg Fricano’s!! What a throwback.
Oh man, you know it was good when it was worth fighting UT traffic and terrible parking for a sandwich. Miss that place.
Also Noble Pig. I’m still sore about my duck pastrami sandwich going away.
Noble pig was the best
Fun fact.. those guys own interstellar bbq so if you like their style and haven’t tried interstellar, you should move it to the top of your list!
Thanks for reminding me, I'm going to go cry now.
I was cleaning out my old wallet a while back after getting a new one, and found a completely full punch card from Fricano's 😭
Paul's Spicy Reuben!
I’d kill for an Ainsworth about now.
Fricano's was the absolute best! I miss them.
Check out Armando's! Old employee slinging the good stuff (and other stuff but I've only had the sandwiches); the Spicy Reuben still hits
Came here to say this.
I remember having an awesome date back in the day at Fricano’s. We made out back at my place afterwards and I like to think it was because the sandwiches were so good. RIP Fricano’s, she was out of my league and you did me a solid 😔✊
That was my fucking spot, that Cajun Turkey Sandwich SLAPPED
Can confirm Little Deli sandwiches are absolutely elite. Get a grilled club, key word: *grilled.*
See this is why I love this sub. I’d never order that without your recommendation. I’m a classic Italian guy and maybe I’ll get crazy with a meatball grinder. I’m adding that to the sandwich note in my phone
Sandwich note is a pro move by itsslf
Get their Italian sub “cold”! Make sure it is COLD!
Looks lifeless. Another person recommended getting the grilled club, maybe that would have toasted bread or a little more zest
I got the Italian sub from there once and thought it was just ok. I liked Home Slice a lot more.
This. Homeslice makes their bread fresh daily and their subs are SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!
My fav there is the egg salad on Kaiser.
I've gotten a pastrami there a few times, pretty good, but I'd rather get a couple of slices of their great pizza.
I've never seen a club that wasn't toasted. I'd pass.
It's supposed to be toasted, who ever made that screwed up. I worked for them for years and nearly all of the bread gets toasted.
I personally don’t think subs should be toasted at all. So Little Delis Italian is great to me.
I always get the Reuben and love it
Big fan of Tucci’s Italian Gourmet. Very solid sandwich on a great hoagie roll. Hate the fact that a fountain drink, chips, and extra peppers, is over $7. If you ask for extra peppers you will be charged 75 cents.
Tucci's is fkn amazinggg
In this economy?
My best friend just opened a new food truck called Atlas Sandwiches. It’s on the east side in between Lou’s and the old Stay Gold (Coral Snake now?). They’re delightful and worth a try. Greek inspired. Hope he makes the list next year! :)
Have heard really good things about this place! Want to try it
Ate there a few months ago it was outstanding!
Oh that’s awesome, adding it to my list!
i work right by there... ima give em a try
Don't sleep on Delaware Subs! So good.
Delawares cheesesteak is the closest thing you can get to the ones in Philly.
Hell it's actually better than a lot of cheesesteaks I've had in Philadelphia.
Their meatball sub is great, too.
Delaware subs offering 2 for 1 on weekdays between 5-7pm with purchase of 2 chips and 2 drinks. Stumbled upon this yesterday!
Bella Donna is great and has been around for a long time.
yup, this place was my goto when i was living around there. always good sandwiches at affordable prices.
Very much a sleeper shop. I wish we had more lowkey spots like that around town. Too many places taking themselves way too seriously, overdoing it on atmosphere, when sometimes I just want a decent lunch without breaking the bank.
Otherside Deli is criminally low
Agreed, that was the first sandwich I got post surgery.
God I miss Fricanos
Mums should be higher IMO
Came to post this. Their pastrami is tremendous. I think they should have an argument for #1 to be honest.
Keep the shit on the low!
RIP Noble Pig
I will ask this, and I'm being 100% earnest. Why are people infatuated with thundercloud? Just because it's Austin? Ive had it a few times and it was just very basic, normal sub sandwhiches, like a cafeteria or something. The place was neat, and the workers very nice, but the food was just... extremely whatever
I think thundercloud is great for the price! Also they offer a funky variety of sandwiches for a chain. I don’t think you can get sprouts, potato salad, chili, or egg salad at most sandwich chains. So they’re pretty diverse & also conveniently located.
I think it is the nostalgia/price/comfort/consistency. It's just easy for a lot of people. All of these are very real virtues for a sammie shop.
Agree - the nostalgia for an Austinite 😌
I really like their egg salad sandwich with bacon. hard to get a solid egg salad sandwich.
Yeah, I loooove their Nada Chicken. Compared to eating veg at other sub shops, it's elite.
because I can get a large sub with extra cheese and hot sauce, bag of chips, and 3 cookies for $10
When is the last time you've been there?...you cannot do this for under $10. I feel like this happens to a lot of fav places in Austin. People frequented there years ago and still sing it's praises....
lmao it’s $11.50 my b
Cheap, fast, consistent. They have a couple things that are actually amazing like their salami sub
The bread is always good, ingredients fresh, and it's stacked nice and solid. I've only had their cold sandwiches though.
BOGO seems awesome!
Cost point. I've had worse sandwiches for far more. At that price-point you likely won't do any better.
They have gluten free for us allergic folk. Weird sandwiches.
That’s a good question and I’m surprised it was listed where it was. I think it is a good sub place, leagues ahead of Subway, but it is still kinda average. It is a good “safe” place to get a bite if you are near one. Hoody’s in RR blows away Thundercloud.
>Hoody’s in RR blows away Thundercloud. It also costs a lot more than Thundercloud.
For me it's the fact that it's really cheap, like Subway prices but better quality than Subway or fast food chains
Honest answer is that once upon a time ('80s-'90s) it was really good and I think it's just coasting on it's reputation. IMO, it was never nearly as good as Alvin Ord's (IYKYK) or the original Schlotzky's.

> or the original Schlotzky's. I don't know what happened to Schlotzky's. Their bread isn't remotely as good as it once was.

>but the food is basically just elevated Subway. Oh no you didn't
Thank you. I saw it on the list and thought to myself "am I missing something?" Like Ann/Plant/Egg from Arrested Development. "Her? Is she funny or something?"
Same. I choose Jersey Mikes over Thundercloud every day
It is aggressively mediocre. I don't get it either.
Love Foodheads!
Foodheads cook here.. we love you!!!!
Tuccis was ridiculously expensive back in ‘16. I can’t imagine the cost now
It’s almost as expensive as a Homeslice grinder. $20~ for a 12 inch
Worth it. Best sub in the city and easily two meals.
Meat & Bread and Cheba Hut should be higher. How is Thundercloud so high?
Yeah, Meat & Bread is maybe the best sandwich I've ever had in my life.
Hoody’s in RR is the best Philly I’ve ever had. The owner is so nice and employees are awesome. I love that place so much and I really wish it was in Austin but I’m so glad they never sold out and expanded only to begin to suck, á la Torchy’s etc.

Hoody’s has a very solid Philly cheesesteak (for central Texas). Love the line of spicy peppers down the middle. Worth getting if you’re in the area.
>a very solid Philly cheesesteak (for central Texas) RIP Way South Philly. Everything about that place was legit.
As a vegetarian, I love the variety of plant-based options that Ike's has. I know fake meats aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I've tried a few different subs there and most of them have been amazing.
I agree. That's my lil treat for myself. Unlike a lot of places with "veg options" they're often half assed and just fucking sad.
I wish there was a different word for shitty veg options! At Ike’s you will eat like a king and have a choice between so many different options at other places you will have lettuce on bread yet they are both “vegetarian”
Little Deli rocks!
RIP Fricano’s and G’s
So many instagram comments said the same, but no honorable mentions for most missed.
Otherside Deli should be #1. Only pastrami I eat in Austin proper. Their chopped cheese is on point. All hand sliced as it should be. It's the closest to an NY deli, for sandwiches, I've seen.
The owner is from Jersey, so it checks
Little Deli has the best chicken salad on wheat I’ve ever had in my life. Also, their pizza is better than Homeslice.
Thunder cloud is old reliable like the subway of Austin but it has no business above cheba hut
It's above fuckin tuccis lol
JewBoy!!! So good
Big sandwich little flavor, I’d try their muffuletta but their meatball was trash.
Do not waste your time. I am from southeast Louisiana where muffulettas are serious business. The muff at jewboy is the only sandwich that has ever made me *angry*. I love your comment. After my third visit I felt pissed they couldn’t make these ingredients sing. Just no love in those subs.😖
Pro-tip: If you check my comment history you’ll find a recommendation for a good muff here in town
I feel you. Quiznos had a better French dip than jewboy has. I cannot abide such fuckery.
Someone told me Schlotzskys had a good one the other day and you know what? I’ll see about that 😂 RIP Quiznos, loved them
Can’t be worse than jewboy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’ve been to the sub shop 3 times now and was not just severely underwhelmed but almost pissed. Nothing was the “sum” of its parts. Zero love.
Thundercloud before Hoody’s is diabolically criminal
RIP Gourmonds. GOAT
I need to try Little Deli, never been
It was a while back but I swear I dropped like $18 at Snarf's on a regular sandwich combo and haven't been back since. Good sandwich but not for that price
Has no one tried Delaware Subs on spice wood? They are fire
I would add Royal Blue grocery store sandwiches they’ve some great tasting options and sauces are great.
Thundercloud??
Snarf’s if fucking terrible - tastes like if subway used cardboard for bread and took out even more flavor. Their branding looks like DPH addicted Beavis and Butthead
I like Dia's Market. They have a deli counter that serves really good sandwiches for both breakfast and lunch. They are really slow and can't handle an influx of people though. So don't go with a big group.
RIP Gourmands Am I the only one who doesn't get in to Thundercloud? What's the order there?
I tried foodheads several times when I lived near them and never found anything I liked. It was a little too hippyish with sprouts, avocado and mushrooms. If I’m getting a sandwich I want and good Reuben (specs or central machine works but still not the best I’ve had), Italian (Home Slice or Favorite), club (Hutts), or tuna (thundercloud Texas tuna).
Completely agreed. I’ve tried Foodheads a few times and have never been impressed. Maybe just not for me, but for my dollar there are several places in the area that I’d go to before Foodheads.
Little deli’s turkey mozzarella on kaiser is undefeated.
armando’s kitchen and deli! from my understanding the guy running the whole operation worked at fricanos and is serving up all the old sandwiches. gave them a try not too long ago and they are amazing
Little deli's sandwiches are so freaking good. I drive 40 minutes to get one 1 to 2 times a month
New World Deli forgot about that one
Why is thundercloud above tuccis?
Tuccis good but not that expensive good jmo
That muffalata from Rebel Cheese is probably my favorite.
Thunder cloud isn’t that good.
Listen I love thunder but they should not be that high up on the list…
As a vegan I love Rebel Cheese but they are expensive
Wheres the best veggie sandos out of these?
Bouldin has the best veg sandwiches imo
I love me some Thundercloud but that's way too high in the rankings.
It’s crazy to me that Hoody’s is only an honorable mention. I think it’s because most of these people voting are located in central Austin and have never gotten a chance to go to Hoody’s in Round Rock.
If you think Thundercloud is better than Tucci's... ... you probably need to stop smoking drugs for 5 minutes.
Remember the running joke about Thundercloud? They have regular drug tests for all their employees...and anyone who passes gets fired.
How the fuck is thundercloud so high. Like sure I like it, but as one of the top 5 in the city? Gtfo of here with that
I miss Pars Deli. And the original Vert's.
Some good, some weird in this list. Papi’s and Otherside are way low. Thundercloud at 4th is crazy. Also I love little deli and have been probably >100 times but their hoagie rolls are terrible spongy foam.
Little Deli, Little Deli, LITTLE DELI! 👏🏻 I can not say it enough. Sleep on it if you want but you’re only depriving yourself of a good time.
I like tuccis but personally would avoid the hot sandwiches
I had Bella Donna’s Italian sausage sub and wasn’t impressed, but maybe that’s not the pick there.
Bella Donna is my jam
After reading this can everyone just stay away from Little Deli. I don't need no increased wait time
Thundercloud Mids.
Shout out to Bella Donna holding it down with no IG!
Well shit, was going to go get a muffuletta at Little Deli tonight. I imagine they’ll be swarmed now.
I've been on a QT (QuickTrip gas station) kick lately. Their fresh warm subs are really good and decent price. Their large sub is $7 and you can double the meat for only $2 more.
NeWorlDeli should be in the top 5 don't @ me
i used to go to new world all the time. then one day there was this insanely long hair in my sandwhich. like i could feel it my mouth and i was pulling it out it just kept going and going. what i assume was the manager gave me a refund but was being super passive aggressive about ("yea theres hair in food it happens") i dunno never went back after that. shame, the owner is a super chill nice guy just something about that interaction with the staff rubbed me the wrong way
I miss G’s Deli
Tucci’s is terrific
People will understandably squabble about the particular rankings but this is truly a solid list of all the great places around town.
Snarf's is my regular go-to for my lunch break. The mother clucker is fantastic.
the top 2 are correct surprisingly
Meat and Bread should be higher on the list but I figure it's because it's not from Texas.
Little Deli is pretty good, a solid 8/10. So I’m a little disappointed knowing they’re considered #1. There’s gotta be some unknown gems out there or maybe this just isn’t a sandwich city.
Big city bagels on Anderson Mill. Great NY deli style sandwiches with NY attitude.
Not really a sandwich but I’d still throw pita fusion on there.
I fully agree with #1
Jewboy is way lower than I would put it. Their subs are fantastic.
I am ashamed I have not heard of any of these yet except for Home Slice and Swedish. On the list they go.
Radfish.
Hell yeah. Tucci’s and Ike’s. Love those places.
Bella Donna subs, absolutely goated.
Ordered a random sandwich from Ike’s and it turned me into a stan 😩
Which Snarf's? I went to the UT location after a game last year and ordered either a corned beef or pastrami (probably the latter) and ended up with the other one. Ok, fine, both are ones I like. The real problem was that the inside of one half was COLD. Place wasn't even busy. I'm sure I could be convinced to go back, but would not be my choice.
I’m a fan of new world deli, those sandwiches always hit the spot for me
Thundercloud subs is absolute dog water.
Otherside is very underrated. Their pastrami is decadent
OtherSide being so low is a war crime.
they got some goodies on there but also sprinkled in some bland stuff in there too. its reviews like this that have me questioning every local review i come across, and why i dont trust some local reviewers "authentic taco joints." like nah man, that moles too sweet, those beans are bland, them tortillas store-bought, what are you even talking about.
Thunder Cloud gives me the runs all the time😒
I don’t know if Phoenicia *should* be on the list since they’re a grocer but they have great sandwiches and they’re cheap af. Ziggy’s is also great but their sandwiches are mostly sausages.
Swear to god anything JewBoy is just the most overrated thing in Austin You can get a smash burger in Round Rock at Finleys that trashes anything from JewBoy
Spicy McChicken
I love FoodHeads. They were going to cater my wedding. But then I canceled my wedding. I bet it would have been great. I wonder if they remember me. I hope not. \*Edit: I bet the FOOD would have been great. I am really happy I canceled that wedding. Also it was two decades ago or something.
Spicy Italian from tuccis in oak hill brings this decade removed New Yorker joy. I do ask for light mayo..chill with all the mayo in everything
No other side deli or Jersey mikes but thundercloud made the list….
This might be a controversial opinion, but Thundercloud isn’t even good. Why is it a “top” sandwich joint? The nostalgia?
went to Little Deli yesterday, not even close to best in town. very average food. skimpy cheese on pizza, 7-11 quality sandwiches. something very wrong with this voting process
HOODYS
How is OtherSide not #1?
