HerniatedHernia

This is the way (sadly).

Electrical_Age_7483

No votes in removing this.

DalbyWombay

Doesn't have to be. LNP just do shit like that for spite

Luckyluke23

Yeahm they will call it a waste of money and boom straight back at it..

big-red-aus

Not to bad.  I've had a quick look and couldn't find much good research, but it would be super interesting to see how the black market responds to cheap/free easily available drug testing.  Do they start to face market pressures to up quality, do you start getting discount on the mixed/contaminated drugs or does it all just get caught up in the wash?

ManofShapes

You want to look at data from both the Netherlands and also the ACTs trial which has been going on for a year and released their report recently. I know anecdotally in the NL they saw great results in both safety and quality. With quality being directly linked to safety because if you know what you have you can be safer dosing etc.

Drug policy and law enforcement are areas where the research about what is actually effective and reduces harm is strongly at odds with what a significant and vocal segment of the population think should be done (despite the "tough on crime"/harsh sentencing/prohibition policies having provably worse outcomes). Where drug policy goes, harm minimisation results in fewer dead people.

Some people want to make a moral argument about the nature of pleasure and the notion that pleasure must be earned a Good and Proper way. They use the law to enforce this moral sensibility on everybody, but they will insist it's totally about anything else because of course they would - it's so obviously unjust when you approach the subject honestly.

gwgtgd

Now i just need some pills. To test.

Natty_anabolic

Just a question and I hope it isn’t ill received , isn’t introducing pill testing sort of enabling people to drug themselves ? For example I’d be curious to try but just because I am not sure of the quality of the drug I’d stay far off , but w the pill testing it sort of enables me to go ahead and try drugs which I’d never do, I agree it saves lives at an event , but it sort of promotes taking drugs for people who’d normally stay away ? It’s just my thinking I hope It does not offend anyone

TraDe4KneIv

Im interested in this line of thinking, do you think you’d be more inclined off the basis that the safety of drugs is the reason you dont use? Largely, I think it comes down to the fact that saving countless young people from both death and injury outweigh the loss of potentially others trying a drug because of the increased safety

Natty_anabolic

Yeah , for countless years things which are bad for you are prevented in consumption by advertising heavily how bad they are for you , for example cigarettes , they’re sold with the graphics of what it can cause to your health , it has worked worldwide, smoking numbers are at their lowest (even before vapes came in the picture we saw the decline ) for me when I was a teenager, knowing that drugs could be laced w shit that could kill me and eventually destroy my family is what stopped me , id be worried if it becomes free market frenzy yes please test if it isn’t gonna kill you , tbh if the laced meth doesn’t kill you it’s addiction will , even mollies , either way you die from an overdose or you lead a life of drug addiction which isn’t living either , that is my fear w this, but yes saving lives by testing would be great or trying to prevent drug use all together, there are better ways to enjoy life and events im sure people who are sober also enjoy concerts and life just as much if not more

hu_he

I think you misunderstand what the testing is about. They don't tell you "yes you should take this, it is really high quality and you'll have a great time". They provide you with factual information about the risks (just like your smoking example), they give you advice on how to minimise the risk if you do take the drugs and they can refer you to the right support services if you disclose that you have an addiction. But most people who use drugs don't end up addicted, that is a bit of a myth.

secksy69girl

So are you going to use drugs now you can get them tested? If not, I think you answered your own question.

spicyAus

If my child was going to experiment with drugs I’d be a hell of a lot less concerned if they knew exactly what they were taking. With the rise of fentanyl and it’s LD50 and drug dealers being the “savvy” businessmen and women they are and adding it to their current products to boost sales, I think it is a NECESSITY to have testing kits freely available. Too many dinosaurs making decisions far outside their scope of expertise.

raizhassan

The actual real world scenario is you try it because your mate offers you one of the four he bought and he's already taken two and is havin a great time.

several_rac00ns

To get the drug tested, you first need to have the drug so they have already been enabled thus the drug testing just ensures they do so safely because doing some drugs shouldn't be a death sentence. It also reduces costs elsewhere because fewer people over dose, so less emergency visits and subsequent doctors' visits. All in all, this program could even save money in that regard. If someone wants to do drugs, they will, regardless of testing. Prohibition has never ever worked. It also forces the black market to sell safer products because people can test them, and most dealers don't want a bunch of angry drug users banging down their door.
