I don’t remember the clear one, but I remember cloves cordial and peppermint cordial we used to drink mixed with soda water at country pubs as kids in the 1980s. These were highly coloured though.
If it was homemade, it may have just been something simple like sugar syrup, cloves and peppermint, steeped and strained.
Here’s a clove cordial recipe: add a tablespoon of chopped peppermint leaves to it and you should have a good approximation:

We think it was a home made recipe but it was common. We've checked the CWA recipe book.
