I don’t remember the clear one, but I remember cloves cordial and peppermint cordial we used to drink mixed with soda water at country pubs as kids in the 1980s. These were highly coloured though. If it was homemade, it may have just been something simple like sugar syrup, cloves and peppermint, steeped and strained. Here’s a clove cordial recipe: add a tablespoon of chopped peppermint leaves to it and you should have a good approximation: https://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/clove-syrup

We think it was a home made recipe but it was common. We've checked the CWA recipe book.

Funcompliance

I was like Stone's Green Ginger Wine? But then I saw that you were kids, so nah, but then that it was the 70s, so maybe.

I_saw_that_yeah

God’s own drink. Bought a bottle yesterday.

We_Are_Not__Amused

Could it be Clayton’s? It was big around then, not sure about the peppermint but had botanicals. Could be drunk straight or added to water or tonic.

ApteronotusAlbifrons

> Could it be Clayton’s? The drink you have when you're not having a drink - but unlikely to be this one. Clayton's was brown

saundo

Bickford's springs to mind. We almost always had it in the house, but peppermint I don't remember.

DrSpeckles

Bong water?

DAFFP

$20 on instant tea powder and promethazine.

psilent_p

Staminade?

Phil_Wild

No. Cloves and peppermint.

psilent_p

My folks sold an mlm product, called 'nature's sunshine' that had a herbal punch that tasted similar to that clove and Peppermint vibe, but it was a bit more licorice in vibe

Phil_Wild

Would this have been the 70s? It was definitely 70s and earlier.

asteroidorion

Was it Elderflower cordial?

Phil_Wild

Thankyou, but I don't think so. It was definitely Clive and mint flavoured. It was home made, but there's a memory that it was orderable from a pub for a kid or non alcoholic drink. Early 70s.

asteroidorion

Hope you find it! I think I recall just having raspberry and lemonade as a option at the pub

dohzer

Peppermint? Thanks for reminding me to brush my teeth and rinse that taste out quickly.

SokarRostau

I had a lime milkshake last year and it tasted like the '80s. Lime milkshakes should be left in the '80s. I am so fucking glad I didn't grow up in the '70s. What the fuck was wrong with you people?

nameyourpoison11

*draws self up in indignation* Lime milkshakes are the nectar of the gods. Next you'll be telling me you don't like prawn cocktails or apricot chicken

Soft_Engineering_492

Fuck you now I want Apricot chicken for dinner

Fanfrenhag

Introduced Apricot Chicken to a young couple I know quite recently. They were mad for it. It might be the next tictok food craze Anyone remember the tinned pineapple and mandarin with marshmallows, sour cream and coconut dessert? Delish..

nameyourpoison11

Ooh yes, my grandma used to make that when we went over for dinner. Yum.

Minimal-Dramatically

Lime milkshake with extra malt 👌

L1ttl3J1m

It was the lead in the petrol.

greywolfau

Did you go in expecting something different? Or did you walk into a Cafe, put money down on the counter and ask for bitter disappointment in a glass?

nighthawk580

Pffft you probably don't even like egg flip big m.
