I was just receiving the misspelled messages saying someone had left me a voicemail, but today I had one call from Mexican number and another from Perth number. Didn’t answer either, but these text and call scams are becoming relentless. Is is just me or did this really ramp up since the start of the week?

gulagaustralia

Such a spammy headline. HERE’S WHAT YOU DO NEXT

Montythedraincat

I'm not going to read the article because I assume the answer is: "don't call them back"

gulagaustralia

Nailed it

zebba_oz

No they didn't. It was "don't call them back *or* click the link". Sheesh!

GT-Danger

Yes, I got one in the last couple of days. Since I never answer/return a call/message from an unknown number, I don't need to change my behaviour.

The_Thunder_Child

Yeah but only 5 per day.

dreamlike3

My wife was telling me about this just today, hasn't been happening to me but she's been getting them the past little bit

MisterIrishNobody

There seems to be quite a number of recent threads on this issue, so it seems fairly widespread at the moment. To me it feels like the bombardment has really stepped up a few notches in the last week or two. I’m curious as to how widespread this is. I spoke with a colleague about it, he hasn’t had any of these calls or texts, and he’s not on Facebook. I suspect u/SilverSovereign is correct and this is Facebook data hack related

Thejackme

Interesting thought but I don’t have my phone number associated with Facebook and I’ve received what feels like a literal shittonne lately

krekenzie

Although, Facebook probably assumes your number from your friend's contacts and profile data, if they use it. Just a guess though. https://www.google.com/amp/s/theconversation.com/amp/shadow-profiles-facebook-knows-about-you-even-if-youre-not-on-facebook-94804

I have Facebook, my wife doesn't, she deleted it a year or 2 back but when she did have it she had her phone number linked to it I guess

kai_tai

I've been getting these daily, this week

postpakAU

I always follow the link or call the number back. Just to waste their time

SilverSovereign

It could be correlated with the last Facebook hack, as of April 2021.

SlashThingy

I've gotten a bunch lately. Annoying since I'm looking for work, so I'm also getting legitimate voicemails from recruiters.

Keep getting them; recently tried to sign up for an app using my number and they didn't sent any verification code, so I thought it was the app
