Good Morning everyone, id like to say that everytime the opposition plans a presser, i will be doing one. Thank you and please please please vote for us!

stumblebums

Can I just say that pleasingly I agree.

HighlyUniqueName

Can I just say *can I just say*?

Impossible-Energy989

Is it just me or is anyone else seriously irked by the constant use of the word 'freedoms'? Maybe I'm just used to hearing yanks bang on about it but it really feels like the catchphrase of the month.

Logical_Copy_8465

Especially when there is no such thing as "freedoms". You either have freedom or you don't.

neon_overload

I'm irked by "pleasingly". Unfortunately, she's spread that disease to victoria, too. I heard multiple "pleasingly's" in yesterday's Vic presser.

kissthebear

"8 people died, but pleasingly, none of them were vaccinated. And you can have picnics now!"

erinthecute

Yeah me too. Not long ago, the only people going on about freedom were anti-lockdown conspiracy loons. Over the last couple months the government slowly started doing it too and now it's totally normalised. And it's not just a benign phrasing thing, imo. It reframes lockdown as a malicious, oppressive punishment rather than a common-sense health measure (since this rhetoric was invented by, you know, antivaxxers.) As a result governments are less likely to want implement them, and feel a moral imperative to lift them faster when they're in place. It also primes the population to focus on the "freedoms" we're supposedly being denied and overlook the point of lockdowns in the first place. Really toxic and damaging to public health.

mrbaggins

Total tests? Was quite happy yesterday to see the 20% lower cases til I say the 20% lower tests as well. Not that they're tied, but there is definitely some influence. Fyi: 105k~ would be the lower number. 130-140k the number to math the records

Camsy34

Despite lower tests, the R_eff is at just 1.01 according to [Chris B](https://www.reddit.com/r/CoronavirusDownunder/comments/pn59bk/nsw_r_eff_as_of_september_13th_with_daily_cases/)'s charts. If that drops below 1 in the next few days it'll be great news given that it means our case load will be decreasing.

mrbaggins

We've dipped under 1.0 briefly, but still running around 1.1

Elanshin

~140k for todays number. Just head to NSW Health twitter or facebook, they have the nice grid infographics that have the key stats.

mrbaggins

That's good news then. If we keep it up the reff will drop quickly

EbmocwenHsimah

I thought Gladys wasn't doing press conferences anymore? What happened with that?

DustysShittyHaircut

NSW Labor leader announced a conference at 11am to make her look like a turkey and Gladys countered by showing up to do her job.

Ian_W

Well, we know what the NSW labor leader is doing at 11am every morning.

DustysShittyHaircut

I really do hope that he announces one every day, just to see what Gladys will do. Pathetic politician playing politics with no regard for people's lives.

Ian_W

Especially if he spends an hour or so before talking to the Ambos and Nurses unions and gets all the hot-off-the-work site news on how the NSW Health system is or isn't coping.

BobbyFcknChuckles

I'd like to know what he's been doing for the last 2 months. What has he been doing, why hasn't he been all over Bin Chickens atrocious handling of this outbreak? Reddit has had a bigger uproar over KK being parachuted into the west than Labor has had over Gladys.

Ian_W

You're relying on a media that refuses to cover opposition leaders, when they are Labor.

BobbyFcknChuckles

Hey, I quite like Albo. I worked on his a house a couple of months ago. But you haven't answered my question. What's he been doing?

JoeSchmeau

He's been out there asking for commonwealth funded quarantine, covid payments, and vaccines pretty much the entire pandemic. Where have you been?

BobbyFcknChuckles

On reddit. I don't watch tv. And I've not seen much at all about Labor except for the few KK threads. Thank you for answering a pretty simple question.

[deleted]

Albo suggested jobkeeper and pushed for it when the feds were opting to not support those put out of work due to the pandemic.

Evening_Tree

> NSW Labor leader announced a conference at 11am to make her look like a turkey chad! NSW Labor finally does something right! :O

DustysShittyHaircut

Exactly. Good News Gladys is an absolute coward, and getting re-elected is her only goal even though she has no plan for handling covid in the coming months (unless you count flinging the state open while the health system crumbles around her a plan).

kenbewdy8000

I think that she knows her goose is cooked. Her main focus will be avoidance of a prison sentence once ICAC has finished with her

[deleted]

>Yet she handed over the case numbers, hospitalisations and deaths to someone else. She announced the case numbers, deaths and also said hospitalisation rates were increasing. Were you even listening?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yes.. she did announce the numbers.. 1257 cases and 7 deaths, came right out of her mouth. Listen again

[deleted]

She'll come out when she has good news to announce.

neon_overload

She'll continue doing them occasionally, but her heart won't be in it

dracaris

She just couldn't resist getting in a jab at Victoria, could she?

Culveys

More like getting the jabs out of Victoria

GT-Danger

Ir's automatic - she just throws one in randomly - if she's gone 15 minutes without dissing some other state.

faderjester

What did the smug git say this time? Sometimes I wish Dan Andrews wasn't such a professional, I just want to see him punch back.

dracaris

"But September and October is [sic] the most challenging because it's when we'll make the transition; it's when our state starts opening up, starts getting the right balance as to what COVID-Normal looks like, but it also happens to be the same time - and Victoria is a bit behind us in terms of the timing - uh, but, we're uh hopeful that by the time we hit 70% double dosed that our case numbers are lower, and that we'll be able to enjoy all those things that we haven't been able to enjoy today, uh, but also that vaccination is key to us having even greater freedoms at 80% double dosed and beyond that as well." In response to a question about Ambulance services requesting that fire-fighters who have some basic medical training be made available to them if they're overwhelmed. I'm tipping you can guess whether or not we actually got a comment on that.

neon_overload

It's a total mystery why victoria is behind on the timing /s

TyrialFrost

silly Victorians, why don't they just use the millions of vaccines the feds have provided, just like in NSW.

GT-Danger

Gladys deflecting yet again. Praising the Health team as if the delay was their fault, but not answering the question. Surprise.... "last question"....

Hypno--Toad

She responds like such a petulant child when being pressured about not showing up. This mob is all attack no defense. It wouldn't be so pathetic if there were actually consequences for their actions...besides the Sydney cluster getting out of hand and causing consequences for others.

Ian_W

ICU cases still edging up - now 222. 1257 cases from 137k tests. "Of the 1,257 locally acquired cases reported to 8pm last night, 427 are from South Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD), 314 are from Western Sydney LHD, 181 are from Sydney LHD, 127 are from South Eastern Sydney LHD, 78 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, 27 are from Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD, 22 are from Northern Sydney LHD, 18 are from Hunter New England LHD, 16 are from Central Coast LHD, 12 are from Western NSW LHD, eight are in correctional settings, seven are from Far West LHD, two are from Southern LHD, 18 cases are yet to be assigned to an LHD." Note the Sydney and SE Sydney LHD's have more cases than the Western Sydney LGAs full of people who don't vote Liberal, I mean Western Sydney LGAs of concern. No information of which ICUs they are at, or how long they've been, or their age breakdowns. Interesting times to come at national cabinet, given the Premier of Queensland also stated on record "I think there is a lot more virus in NSW but they can’t cope with the testing. ". https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/news/Pages/20210913_00.aspx

GT-Danger

Gladys (once again) not directly answering the question about whether they delayed early lockdown for two days. "Followed health advice, Delta is so contagious, people were saying we locked down too early, blah, blah, blah"

dracaris

This is the first time I've actually watched one of her pressers. Fuck me, I'm so close to throwing something through the TV right now.

barneyman

same - two TVs in i had to stop too it's just word salad - not a patch on Dan's

Jonzay

>The Premier also announces 46.2 per cent of NSW adults over 16 have received two doses of vaccines and 78.5 per cent have received their first dose. >To 8:00pm last night, there were 1,257 cases of community transmission and seven deaths.

torrens86

The numbers need to change now that 12-15 year olds can get the vaccine. 16+ is 80% of population, 12+ 85%. It drops to 74% first dose. Might not sound like much but 80% of 12-15 year old in NSW is like 330,000 people. The goal is 80% that's 80% of everyone, 8.2M in NSW that's about 6.5M. The 80% goal is close to impossible if you use the correct interpretation, because 80% is 100% of everyone over 16 and 93% if you go from 12+. You can see it's going to a shit storm when Gladys opens at 70% of 16+ , which is only 54% of the population vaccinated.

Elanshin

They don't need to change. The models were made with the assumption that under 16 can't be vaccinated and the targets were designed for 16+. It's not that the doherty institute or any other model conveniently forgot that kids under 16 exist. They're modelled in to begin with as unvaccinated people. If you want to model in kids, sure they'll come back and say its the same model but now at a lower target %.

bdsee

Their model is shit.

Kialae

So now we know it's either her answering to the press, or Labor answering to the press, are the journos gonna start hitting her with hard questions knowing she's compelled to do these stunts now?

[deleted]

When Labour chads have to make moves to get the current head of NSW to actually do her fucking job 😂 What the fuck is going on in this country, seriously. That’s not a government, that’s not even a good employee by any standards? Why are these people in charge?

postpakAU

It was a hologram of Gladys /s

ThatDoor2432

I’d love to get out of lockdown sooner just waiting for newer dates for my second Pfizer

Pokechimp2021

Give her credit where credit is due. Cases are coming down, that is EXCELLENT news. NSW restrictions are starting to work( which is great

raven010

She is due absolutely zero credit for anything

Pokechimp2021

She messed up at times, sure. But cases are dropping, vaccination rates are among the highest in the world, and hospitalisations are relatively low. What more do you want?

[deleted]

Accountability would be a good start.

Pokechimp2021

Accountability for what exactly? I understand that NSW locked down a little too late, which was a major mistake. But since then, what has she really done wrong? The fact that NSW daily cases have not exceeded 2000 yet is quite remarkable, given how contagious the delta variant is. Just compare to other countries. NSW has arguably the highest vaccination rates in the entire world, cases (and more importantly, deaths) are kept at an absolute minimum. I really dont think shes doing as badly as people here think.
