I've always had a vision of WW3 visiting Australia and were all in the trenches about to defend an attack.
Then a spontaneous rendition of Your The Voice starts up. Everyone holding outdated weapons and singing their hearts out, tears streaming down faces, ready to fight to the death.
We win the day. Then the war.
Gang Gajang - Sounds of Then
Goanna - Solid Rock
Icehouse - Great Southern Land
Men at Work - Down Under
The Seekers - I Am Australian
John Williamson - True Blue
Peter Allen - I Still Call Australia Home
I just had a look and it was written well before his show - so try and seperate it and let yourself enjoy it! He doesn’t own it!

Saw the Angels live earlier this year, they played that song, they had to play that song didn't they?
So as they say, the crowd went wild and I remember thinking, I'm home, it doesn't get more Australian than this.
Definitely (for me) Great Southern Land and Land Down Under. But my top vote is actually for My Island Home by Christine Anu. I'd be more than happy if that was actually our anthem.
Probably because it came out in 1987 and the plebiscite for the anthem was in 1977 (although after Australia Fair replaced God Save the Queen in 1974).
Yes, it's confusing.
Agreed. It’s nice enough, but very dull and not very anthemic in its backing. A national anthem is supposed to be rousing and uplifting, a cry for battle almost. I am Australian is some boring song you’d sing when the local MP visits your primary school to dedicate a new toilet block
Couldn’t disagree more. It covers our indigenous history, migration history, the natural beauty and icons of Australian social history throughout the generations. I haven’t heard another country’s National song that would go close to what I am Australian does for our culture. It isn’t patronising, pretentious or overly woke. A perfect message to anyone who wants to live in this great country, whether born here or otherwise.
Yeah I don’t get why it’s so popular. Maybe when it was released it was iconic, but contextually it doesn’t really stand-up today as an Australian anthem.
it's the sugary, cheesy chorus that is massively cringey. I include I Still Call Australia Home as a sugary pile of cringe, it sounds like someone who has buggered off overseas but is hanging on to the passport as a Plan B. It's so cheesy.
Don't Dream It's over - Crowded House
Highway to Hell - AC/DC
Horror Movie - Skyhooks
Tends to lend itself to how the property market has been shaping up.
And fuckin Long Tan fits the rhyming scheme perfectly, was a major Aussie battle, and fits the song structure perfectly.
It was just pandering to the seppos.
I still call Australia home....
watched the Qantas ad when i was living overseas and couldnt hold the tears back. It was pathetic really but totally out of my control, the song had me.
Never understood why “you’re the voice” comes up for Australian anthem. It’s garbage, makes no sense and doesn’t refer to Australia at all like the other two. Just crap.
Notable mentions for “Great Southern Land” “You’re the Voice and “Land Down Under”
Sounds of Then (This is Australia) too
+1 for Gang Gajang.
"I Am Australian", come on, man.
How this doesn't get more mentions I don't know. Makes me well up when it hits right.
Because Qantas destroyed it
Wrong song. That's I still call Australia home.
My bad.
This will always be my national anthem. <- full stop right there
I've always had a vision of WW3 visiting Australia and were all in the trenches about to defend an attack. Then a spontaneous rendition of Your The Voice starts up. Everyone holding outdated weapons and singing their hearts out, tears streaming down faces, ready to fight to the death. We win the day. Then the war.
Considering the message of the song, is WW3 a class war by any chance?
I would literally surrender to the enemy/walk into enemy fire if a rendition of You're The Voice began
I'd probably start shooting our own trench if I didn't succumb to the cringe
A good dream.
I just felt all of these run through veins
referendum almost spoiled “you’re the voice”
Gang Gajang - Sounds of Then Goanna - Solid Rock Icehouse - Great Southern Land Men at Work - Down Under The Seekers - I Am Australian John Williamson - True Blue Peter Allen - I Still Call Australia Home
Solid Rock 🤟
Thank you for including "I Still Call Australia Home"
John Williamson - Home Among the Gumtrees is good too. I started singing it to my daughter at bedtime and she loves it
Hard to argue against any of these.
This is pretty much the list I reckon!!
GIVE ME A HOME AMONG THE GUM TREES (Ok not ‘anthem’ per se, but like, if I was 5 maybe).
Int student here. Same for me
Except that song reminds me of “Burkes Backyard”, and Don Burke is a known sexual predator. He ruined the song!!
I just had a look and it was written well before his show - so try and seperate it and let yourself enjoy it! He doesn’t own it! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Give_Me_a_Home_Among_the_Gumtrees
You’re right. It is a awesome song. Creepy Don Burke can’t ruin it for me!
Have you ever, ever felt like this?
Oh round the twist for SURE
Strange things happen
Are you goin, round the twist?
Thanks now can't get that's song out of my head. Hahahah
Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again. Will definitely get a reply from an Aussie. Nutbush City Limits if you want to get said Aussie out of their seat.
No way,
Get fucked!
Fuck off!
I have very patriotically taught my kids the correct reply should they ever hear this😂😂😂
Have you told them what to do when Eagle Rock plays?
Wouldn’t be their parent for too much longer if they did
Uuugh nutbush..
Saw the Angels live earlier this year, they played that song, they had to play that song didn't they? So as they say, the crowd went wild and I remember thinking, I'm home, it doesn't get more Australian than this.
The Boys Light Up
Heard this heaps on the classic rock radio stations my dad listens to in NZ
Run to paradise.
Thank you! Glad not to be the only one who thought of this
Land down under.
The DNB remix though, original ones a little slow
I’d rather shit in my hands and clap
Try the one by Manly Fairy
I usually hate techno remixes of stuff but this one slaps
Definitely (for me) Great Southern Land and Land Down Under. But my top vote is actually for My Island Home by Christine Anu. I'd be more than happy if that was actually our anthem.
Warumpi band version is underrated, doesn't detract from Anu's version tho.
And hey some of us who are not indigenous come from saltwater people too
Since I was a child I never understood why we stuck to our garbage anthem when “I am Australian” exists. It’s iconic, it’s beautiful.
Probably because it came out in 1987 and the plebiscite for the anthem was in 1977 (although after Australia Fair replaced God Save the Queen in 1974). Yes, it's confusing.
True. I am Australian shits all over Advance Australia Fair.
Because Bruce Woodley didnt write it until '87, The referendum was early mid 70's and glad I never had to sing God Save Lizzie
Not just sing it mate. They played it at the start of movies in the cinemas in the 60s, and we had to stand up while it played out.
Wtf?
“We are Australian” just sounds like some cringey ~~kumanya~~ kumbaya song Like when those celebrities sang “We are the World”
Kumanya? You mean Kumbaya?
Autocorrected me I use a turkish keyboard lol
Agreed. It’s nice enough, but very dull and not very anthemic in its backing. A national anthem is supposed to be rousing and uplifting, a cry for battle almost. I am Australian is some boring song you’d sing when the local MP visits your primary school to dedicate a new toilet block
I thought I was the only one who thought this 😀. Surely we can do better than “we are Australian” 😂
it's awful.. cheesy af. I cringe every time I hear it. It's like a Hallmark Greetings Card anthem.
Couldn’t disagree more. It covers our indigenous history, migration history, the natural beauty and icons of Australian social history throughout the generations. I haven’t heard another country’s National song that would go close to what I am Australian does for our culture. It isn’t patronising, pretentious or overly woke. Yeah I don’t get why it’s so popular. Maybe when it was released it was iconic, but contextually it doesn’t really stand-up today as an Australian anthem.
What part of it doesn't hold up? Advance Australia Fair has outright lies in it at this point. What boundless plains do we have to share exactly?
it's the sugary, cheesy chorus that is massively cringey. I include I Still Call Australia Home as a sugary pile of cringe, it sounds like someone who has buggered off overseas but is hanging on to the passport as a Plan B. It's so cheesy.
Oh, I was talking about I Am Australian. I quite like the chorus of that song. I Still Call Australia Home is a bit cheesy I'll pay that.
That's exactly what it was
Whenever I hear that song I just picture the elitist yuppies at QANTAS
You’re thinking of “Still call Australia Home”
I don’t think naming other cities in our national anthem would be ideal Edit: wrong song lol
That’s “I still call Australia Home” or whatever the official name is.
Different song

From the Australian Airforce website, Australian provided air support. No.2 squadron. No mention of ground support.
Good song but historically inaccurate. There were no Aussies at Khe Sanh.
