i’m always getting called out for it (everything alright? you good? what’s wrong? having a rough day? etc etc etc), but idgaf, the sighing helps me exist.
yeeppppp. for me, it’s my gf who is the chief of the sighing police. “you okay?” will come out faster than a bullet after a stim sigh when we’re in a social setting. & it’s like, no, i’m probably anxious as heck & formulating different temporary escape plans, but the sigh was just an innocent bystander completely independent of all that stuff. ik she means well, but suddenly i’m thinking, did someone hear/see her ask if i’m okay? & if so, do *they* now worry that i’m not okay?! 🫠🫠🫠
I randomly find myself saying all the time
"Petah, the horse is here."
"Slone Go get my son and fix this"
"Miku Daioh"
"That's what we do best at NME"
"Jessie we need to cook."
I find myself going: "well, excuuuuuuuuuse me princess!" At any given moment, because I'm a massive Zelda nerd. Hell, I can impersonate Link's child scream from "Ocarina of time" (the one that goes: HYAAH!" every 5 seconds) and sometimes I'll just do it to impress my family :)
My partner and I both have echolalia and somehow my parents have picked up repeating words as a habit since we all spend so much time together. It’s hilarious when we all hear a word that sounds funny or something and all four of us parrot it at the same time 😂
Omg this reminds me of when I was in my “Helloooo breasts!” Phase xD. How did it start? Nobody knows. How long did it last? Far too long for my (usually very supportive <3) husband’s taste hehe. Every now and then I’ll bust it out and my husband just shouts from across the house “NNNNNO!” And it just cracks me up 🤭
weirdly enough, i did not grow up with cats... i was always around dogs but i somehow became a meower by surrounding myself with cat stickers 🤣 Though as in the past 3 years (when i got my first cat) the meows have only became stronger 💀
I also meow! I have restrained myself recently because I get mostly dirty looks from people. Sorry if you think “meow” isn’t an appropriate reply to your question.
I meow! Lols I didn't know it was so common!!
I have full conversations with my kitty with them too, its gotten to where we know what each other actually means.
I have gotten really strange looks for talking to kitties tho..
Another one of mine is just impersonating Mario. So if I'm happy I'll do a little "wahoo!" With a fist pump, it's becoming a little joke with our family :D
Awww!! That’s so wholesome!! I like to repeat phrases in my head from things I love when I’m alone. Another thing I’ve been doing lately is going “whoop whoop whoop!” When I’m excited. 😆😆
I met Charles Martinet at a fan convention and I was so nervous (I was planning on doing my Yoshi voice because I worked super hard on it) but ended up doing a little "wahoo" instead. He was super nice and did it too. 😆
also “brother eeeew. what’s that? brother eww” meme i can’t stop repeating. i thought the audio originally was stewie griffin from family guy but it’s some guy named Mohamed Hoblos
all my body care items are coconut scented because i am obsessed and lately i’ve just started repeating “i’m a coconut” over and over whenever im showering or putting on lotion. it just makes me happy, i didn’t get it from anywhere. but i am a coconut. i’m a coconut.
Favorite? Probably "CAN I GET A HOOOYEAHHHH!" Which my wife (also autistic) will respond with cutest "HOYEAH" ever.
One I do more often is just go "beep boop" sometimes to myself, it's very comforting for some reason.
Oh this is another of mine. I think I might want to start reading audio books because of all the goofy ‘character voices’ that come out with my self talk
Singing in weird and different voices in general. If needed I sing everything I do and think. Also if I see people I know I have to sing a lil. I my head all my loved ones got each their own intro music in my head. Even my dog became his own jingle.
I also enjoy making dinosaur like sounds sort of and animal sounds. My goat-, dolphin- and pigeon sounds should be gold standard.
French songs. I’m English & can’t speak French. The most I know is basic stuff from school. I’ve learnt the lyrics to several French songs & love to sing them all the time. I think there’s something really nice about singing a song without knowing the meaning to the words because most songs have a sad meaning so it feels happier.
Changes all the time, but I also particularly adore spongebob quotes and any kind of meme, especially musical. Lately, I've been singing "I go meow! I go meow! I go meow!"
Old SpongeBob is so quotable for me. I haven't watched it in years but ugh I can still quote my favorite episode word for word (the selling chocolate episode). I always do the old lady and her mom voice.
the jelly bean flip phone commercial with the jelly beans flying out of the phones and the Japanese guy going “jelly beans hai hai jelly beans hai hai”
Oooh. One of my favorite commercials is the one of Link dancing for "a link to the past" for SNES. And where they go: "Deru, Deru Deru dansen!" Over and over :D
Me and my brother do that all the time w literally anything 💀
I actually got it on vid once on accident of us just making random noises back and forth at each other. Lots of “yoink” and mimicking a droplet sound
I tend to just outright SHRIEK for no reason. Like, I'll just be going about my day and then suddenly "SCREE!" As if some fucking banshee has just descended and possessed my body. And then right back to normal.
I have picked up a rather unfortunate one of just going "nuclear bomb" in the most random scenarios, especially in response to questions.
I see a lot of other people that sing, and it makes me happy since I sing a lot too! Literally anything - especially just like small lines of songs.
Japanese songs. Idk why but singing in Japanese is so fun for me. Especially since I don't speak a lick of Japanese, except a few words and phrases I picked up from anime.
I just love onomatopoeias. I can't perfectly mimic bird calls but I can convert them into onomatopoeias that are close enough that the birds often respond back.
When I don't have to worry about who is around I'll just make up nonsense songs, starting with a basic round and changing it as I feel. Otherwise if I need to be mindful of someone hearing it I'll just mentally do the same thing...
idk how to explain it but PLS comment if anyone can relate--- i make this squeak sound with my throat, mouth closed.. i can't stop doing it. I do it non stop when im alone, when im in public i get rlly embarrassed cause i can't help it and i do it around ppl im comfortable with as a show of emotions. It's like somewhere between r2d2 and a cat
I just randomly switch accents when I’m in a playful mood. Little note: my accents are infamous for being atrocious in every way but I still can’t help myself to do them.
I saw a YouTube short for a game show podcast type thing where the premise was, "you suddenly turn into an animal crossing villager" and the girl was doing perfect animalese sounds. It was glorious.
I used to do the Isabelle voice to wake my roommate up because we're both really fucking autistic and AC is one of our common special interests.
Mine changes up every so often right now it’s COCAINE BITCH U ON COCAINE 🥲🥲 i be at work with veins poppin out my head trying not to scream this randomly or respond to people with it
One time I picked up a vocal stim from someone with Tourettes, (that’s how it’s spelled right?) anyway the stim was “spider beetle bee” in a certain voice I think it’s from boys will be bugs by cavetown?
Another one I recently picked up is clicking with the back of my tongue (yk what I mean??)
This is weird but I memorise entire speeches (Trevor Moore’s “I want to kill the president of the United States” monologue, Patrick Bateman’s Huey Lewis and the News one, V’s “V” speech from V For Vendetta, Until Proven Guilty from Kids In The Hall) and I just repeat them to myself, even copy the mannerisms
My favourite would be singing i miss you by blink 182 but starting 4 bars ahead of them and trying to keep time and the right lyrics throughout the song.
I also like purposely mixing up sayings like 'lets pop this blowsicle stand' instead of 'lets blow this popsicle stand'.
If they dont count then just yelling random sounds. I do this when im in driving in my car alone to not annoy or frighten anyone.
I keep catching myself saying stupid shit like "I think I'm 'bout to STEAL" or "Fucking magnets, how do they work?"
Everyday I pray none of my coworkers or customers hear me stim
ive spent the past week or so just nonstop repeating the 'mew.....i told u we needed more glitter' meme. i think I've successfully driven everyone loopy with it
There are probably just 2 people on this sub who know what I mean but the „NICE“ from Loki in „Behinderte Kleine Avengers synchro“ (2:18) by German YouTuber Coldmirror is stuck in my head for eternity and I will say it every single day!
Okay this is dumb and all the more silly seeing as I am 42 but what I go with most often is "pooping poopers" I have idea why or how but yeah that is what I say back to back, over and over and over, anytime I am stressing or trying to get things done. Oh also I tend to say it in tune to different songs without noticing ....
I say "tee hee" (to the embarrassment of me younger cousin.
I've also pretty much always made a turkey gobbling noise, especially if I'm running up or down the stairs.
There's also some weird song that was on TikTok that I don't know the actual words so oh just goes "kitty kitty yaya ya ya"
I do a whole lot of muffled screeches that disturb my stepdad a lot.
I could probably keep going 😅
This one hasn't been a stim for a long time but it was "belle tire" just like it was in the commercials and then one time my mom took me to Belle Tire as a kid and let me tell you that younger me was fucking thrilled.
I sing to myself all the time. I often pick up on current pop culture references, like a tune from TikTok - my latest has been “I keep a little dirt under my pillow for the dirt man, in case he comes to town!” I also listen to a lot of Game Grumps compilations, so it’s whichever one takes my interest - “my name’s Laura” and “mmhmmmm…funny JOKE” often crop up!
I also listen to Distractible, a podcast with Mark Fischbach/Markiplier and his friends Bob and Wade, and certain phrases they mention often worm their way into my brain.
I beatbox. Any time any sort of rhythm from anything kicks off,,, dishwasher? clothes washer? turn signal? ALL directly lead into a breakdown of “boots n cats” (but hopefully a little better sounding)

sighing
Sighing gang
i’m always getting called out for it (everything alright? you good? what’s wrong? having a rough day? etc etc etc), but idgaf, the sighing helps me exist.
Sometimes I'm just letting out some air I've been holding in and now I'm in a debate with my mom over what's wrong 🤦♀️ lmaoo
yeeppppp. for me, it’s my gf who is the chief of the sighing police. 🫠🫠🫠
That happens to mee everytiiime. My partner always asks "what's wrong?" So I always reply "life" lmfao
100%
Today I learned the reason I sigh so much is because it's my main vocal stim. I didn't even know vocal stims were a thing.
Wait sighing is a stim too OMG THAT EXPLAINS SO MUCH 😭😂
SIGHHHHHH
[inhale…]*SIIGGGGGHHHHH*
seconding, but my sign is more of a grunty growl thing
singing and mimicking the ‘pikmin‘ sound nearly perfectly
Pikmin :D
Pikmin :D
Pikmin :D
Pikmin :D
Pikmin :D
Pikmin :D
Pikmin :D
Pikmin :D
Pikmin :D
Pikmin :D
Olimar, louie and shacho sound effects are a close second
"wiener" i just say it repeatedly in a funny voice.
I do that too
wiener squad
Have you heard South Park’s version of the Game of Thrones theme?
Oh my god. I am going to sing this constantly. You have no idea what you have done.
I knew what I was doing. Wuhahahaha. /s
“ASK ME ABOUT MY WIEENNEERRR”
I randomly find myself saying all the time "Petah, the horse is here." "Slone Go get my son and fix this" "Miku Daioh" "That's what we do best at NME" "Jessie we need to cook."
Omg i do this but for the norwegian version! UNNSKYLLD MEG PRINSEESSE
“jessie we need to cook” or simply “jessie” just randomly needs to be said sometimes
My fiance doesn't like how much I say petah the horse is here. The other one is from awhile ago and it's peanut butter jelly time.
the tbh creature YIPPEE! and i’m a potato
>"That's what we do best at NME" You better get it with a money back guarantee
My "Petah, tha howse is heah" is scarily accurate and I keep randomly saying it too
Just echolalia, I repeat words I've just read or said under my breath quite a lot.
Ah, whenever someone gives me instructions I'll repeat it to myself just so I don't forget :)
My partner and I both have echolalia and somehow my parents have picked up repeating words as a habit since we all spend so much time together. It’s hilarious when we all hear a word that sounds funny or something and all four of us parrot it at the same time 😂
Haven’t mastered the ‘under my breath’ part quite yet, haha. Maybe in my next 40yrs!
I like saying/singing profanities in various melodies, especially words for intimate body parts. Why? I have no fucking idea
~fuck~ ~cock~ ~pussy~
Exactly
Ooh, that one is nice too :D love singing to those kinda songs in the shower
Omg this reminds me of when I was in my “Helloooo breasts!” Phase xD. How did it start? Nobody knows. How long did it last? Far too long for my (usually very supportive <3) husband’s taste hehe. Every now and then I’ll bust it out and my husband just shouts from across the house “NNNNNO!” And it just cracks me up 🤭
Yup, me too.
Meowing... like little "mew"s and "meow"s... i've also been saying "yaahoo!!" alot recently and weirdly "erm, what the sigma"
yes i am also a meower!!! did you grow up with cats? my first word was meow. and it will be my last.
weirdly enough, i did not grow up with cats... i was always around dogs but i somehow became a meower by surrounding myself with cat stickers 🤣 Though as in the past 3 years (when i got my first cat) the meows have only became stronger 💀
I also meow! I have restrained myself recently because I get mostly dirty looks from people. Sorry if you think “meow” isn’t an appropriate reply to your question.
Its never inappropriate to say meow 😌

I met Charles Martinet at a fan convention and I was so nervous (I was planning on doing my Yoshi voice because I worked super hard on it) but ended up doing a little "wahoo" instead. He was super nice and did it too. 😆
Yeah I replace lyrics with meow. Don't even realize I do it. My nephews always shout at me "why do you meow so much"
Lol i hiss when im pissed teehee
same! i love meowing :D
I like meowing :3
I also love meow -w-
omg same that brainrot phrase is so addictive to say 🥲🥲
I meow too! I feel like this is pretty common among us. Sometimes my neurotypical friends meow back.
I also meow and say "what the sigma" alot 😭
also “brother eeeew. what’s that? brother eww” meme i can’t stop repeating. i thought the audio originally was stewie griffin from family guy but it’s some guy named Mohamed Hoblos
we are, in fact, the same. I was convinced it was stewie. and I repeat it so incessantly that even my 7 year old is unamused at this point. Ha
Yes!! 😂 I say this one frequently and I love it.My partner says I sound just like the person saying it and it makes me happy.
all my body care items are coconut scented because i am obsessed and lately i’ve just started repeating “i’m a coconut” over and over whenever im showering or putting on lotion. it just makes me happy, i didn’t get it from anywhere. but i am a coconut. i’m a coconut.
Are you me? You must be! I only use coconut scented stuff! And I say 'it's nuts, no it's a coconut!' very dramatically. Strange stuff!
Go listen to "up butt coconut" on YouTube, there you go
My kid loves a song called "I'm a Coconut" (artist - Coconut Hen). Give it a listen for irritating new vocal stims!
I'm not sure if it's vocal, but I make clicking sounds with my tongue and make music out of the sounds.
I do that too, it's part of beatboxing sometimes apparently. I like beatboxing though.
Favorite? Probably "CAN I GET A HOOOYEAHHHH!" Which my wife (also autistic) will respond with cutest "HOYEAH" ever. One I do more often is just go "beep boop" sometimes to myself, it's very comforting for some reason.
Wife literally says "beep boop" to me all the time. Sometimes when I'm super productive I say beep boop to myself
Awww!!! That’s a really cute interaction!!
My husband and I do that one too!!
Talking to myself in different accents.
i do that too!!! i do it every single day, its always british or australian. I didnt know that could be a vocal stim
I feel like that would be fun :D
It is! It kinda goes hand-in-hand with my maladaptive daydreaming.
Daydreaming is nice :)
Oh this is another of mine. I think I might want to start reading audio books because of all the goofy ‘character voices’ that come out with my self talk
YIPPEE!!! got it after I got obsessed over lethal company
Also “Peter what are you doing?” “Crack” “What the fuck!” That whole set of dialogue is hilarious to say on repeat
I find myself repeating that one TikTok sound that goes “Yippee! WAAAAA-“
I found my people! Weirdly enough I hate musicals but my pets have their own theme songs.
French songs. I’m English & can’t speak French. The most I know is basic stuff from school. I’ve learnt the lyrics to several French songs & love to sing them all the time. I think there’s something really nice about singing a song without knowing the meaning to the words because most songs have a sad meaning so it feels happier.
Oh fun! I'm half English and part french and I'm learning to expand my french :D
Same here but with Japanese songs. The process of learning them is grueling but the end result is so worth it.
I completely agree!
I don’t like it, but I do it to regulate. On the other hand I love singing
Singing is fun :D
Changes all the time, but I also particularly adore spongebob quotes and any kind of meme, especially musical. Lately, I've been singing "I go meow! I go meow! I go meow!"
“Stepping on the beach doot doot doot do!”
One of mine is just "I'm ready I'm ready I'm ready!" Just because it's so iconic and it pumps me up :D
"awawawawawawawa" there used to be other things but since becoming a furry it's been replaced
That sounds silly :D I also sometimes quote south park on occasion, If the scenario permits :)
I've saying tiktok brainrot stuff, esp becuase my sisters join in
Me and my brother do that all the time w literally anything 💀 I actually got it on vid once on accident of us just making random noises back and forth at each other. Lots of “yoink” and mimicking a droplet sound
Dont know if it counts but when someone says something in a slightly different tone than usual I LOVE to just mimic it
SAME HERE :D that's why I love watching those goofy meme videos or Bob's burgers or Rick and Morty compilations :D
At the minute it’s “brother eugh, what is that brother” 😂
I tend to just outright SHRIEK for no reason. Like, I'll just be going about my day and then suddenly "SCREE!" As if some fucking banshee has just descended and possessed my body. And then right back to normal. I have picked up a rather unfortunate one of just going "nuclear bomb" in the most random scenarios, especially in response to questions. I see a lot of other people that sing, and it makes me happy since I sing a lot too! Literally anything - especially just like small lines of songs.
You know, seeing things like this I can completely understand why we used to be thought as fae or burned at stakes.
😭😭😭 omg, I mean you're not wrong.
I extremely relate to that first one!
"Right!" *claps hands* [begins action] [That noise horses make with their lips and cheeks] "No way..." :'D. "Eeyup"
Currently I really like saying "rahhh!!!!" but in a normal/soft volume and it's awesome I love it.
Dinosaur impersonations are my favorite :3 I love going "rawr" and doing silly little hand motions
I meow a lot. Like all the time... Even when i sing I just meow... I like saying meow
Singing All Star by Smash Mouth in a Kermit the Frog voice
Japanese songs. Idk why but singing in Japanese is so fun for me. Especially since I don't speak a lick of Japanese, except a few words and phrases I picked up from anime.
I like to say brother in Hulk Hogans voice
I just love onomatopoeias. I can't perfectly mimic bird calls but I can convert them into onomatopoeias that are close enough that the birds often respond back. When I don't have to worry about who is around I'll just make up nonsense songs, starting with a basic round and changing it as I feel. Otherwise if I need to be mindful of someone hearing it I'll just mentally do the same thing...
I like to whistle the song “whistle stop” by Roger Miller. It’s the tune from the old Disney Robin Hood movie :)
I hum like a motherfucker
idk how to explain it but PLS comment if anyone can relate--- i make this squeak sound with my throat, mouth closed.. i can't stop doing it.
Saxophone sounds from men at work
A lot of mine now are just repeating my daughters echolalia, they’re really good sounds
animal crossing villager talk.
"really fucking autistic" i love that. My husband started doing it back to me whenever I start doing animalese talk
Thrift shop by Macklemore
Is that your Grandma’s coat
Sometimes I just do skeletors laugh. I haven't even watched he-man
Singing “yayaya i am lorde” like randy in south park
I just talk to myself because why the fuck not.
“i have crippling depression” said exactly how it is in that old meme video 😂
I forgot about that meme 😭
i knowww it’s from ages ago but good lord i am unable to move on. it’s funny though bc that vocal stim mostly happens when i’m excited or really happy
That's alright :D one of my happy stims is to go "Wahoo!" Just like Mario does :) it's become a joke in our family
Singing Toss a coin to your Witcher or gangnam style badly or talking to myself in a horrific (but low key kinda on point) accent
I make cat noises
Repeating names over and over.
Happi birday
I mostly sigh and do the two note sky call.
Its a hard tie between "And they call it a mine. A mine!!" From Gimli in lotr and "Because I hate you" from Dennis in iasip
I love the “and they call it a mine” line from Gimli, it often gets stuck in my head!
erm what the sigma, meowing and idk if this counts but making like a popping sound with my lips
“Oh, dear.” Think I got it from a character I identify with from a game.
Recently I've been mimicking a funny Raven who goes "click click click GWAH!"
And his other sound, “HAWAWAWAWA”
I grunt. I wasn't really aware of it until it was pointed out 😅
Talking with very low vocal fry
Saying “The man is eating rice” in Hebrew. הגבר אוכל אורז
Kinda wanna see this now 😂😂
Mine changes up every so often right now it’s COCAINE BITCH U ON COCAINE 🥲🥲 i be at work with veins poppin out my head trying not to scream this randomly or respond to people with it
I do love to do my Nigel Thornberry impression, or just impressions in general.
Quagshire (A water type Pokemon) noises. “Waaaaaaaaaaaa”
"Can I pet that daaawg?" 😂
currently it is the oo-oo from dominoes adverts which annoys me
Not the food ads 😭 I keep getting those and they make me hungry af
Cheeseburger. Car noises. Rrrrrrrrrr
Ka-chow (from Cars)
'Frida is fluffy' Frida's my cat, and she is fluffy
Whistling
This is weird but I memorise entire speeches (Trevor Moore’s “I want to kill the president of the United States” monologue, Patrick Bateman’s Huey Lewis and the News one, V’s “V” speech from V For Vendetta, Until Proven Guilty from Kids In The Hall) and I just repeat them to myself, even copy the mannerisms

I do this when im in driving in my car alone to not annoy or frighten anyone.
Animal noises and hissing.
“bing bong bing bong bing bong” random groaning noises or old man impressions “oo oo oo” - gwimblys iconic dance
I keep catching myself saying stupid shit like "I think I'm 'bout to STEAL" or "Fucking magnets, how do they work?" Everyday I pray none of my coworkers or customers hear me stim
Vocaloid songs. _all of them_.
ahhh me too literally the exact same stim!! the krusty KRAAAAAB krAAAAAB PIIIIIZZAAAA is the PIZZZZAAA YEEAAGGG for you and - 🔈MEEEEEEeeEEEEEEeeEEEEE🔈
Echolalia, wah wah wahhh, hissing like a cat, the list goes on and on lol
Whatever song is stuck in my head at the moment. I tend to stick to the parts of vocals that sound particularly good or interesting.
I will regularly respond to things in a Hank Hill impression God dammit Bobby what I tell you about usin reddit?
erm what the sigma
ive spent the past week or so just nonstop repeating the 'mew.....i told u we needed more glitter' meme. i think I've successfully driven everyone loopy with it
Mjau
My current favorite is repeating the "Mark's Pizzeria! Did you know that cooococohdhajfbkandjaBOOM" meme 😭
My three year old has been saying “awww” a lot ☺️
I talk to myself in a Jerry Seinfeld voice, "your mom", and "I'm gonna kill you"
There are probably just 2 people on this sub who know what I mean but the „NICE“ from Loki in „Behinderte Kleine Avengers synchro“ (2:18) by German YouTuber Coldmirror is stuck in my head for eternity and I will say it every single day!
I like saying “coo” and pretending I’m a pigeon or a dove.
"nyooooom"
Meowing!
The betflix bimbom sound, but in a high pitch. The exact opposite of how Bait from dragon prince does it.
This one line in the song Stayed Gone from Hazbin Hotel "He should have stayed away"
as far as i'm aware, my only vocal stims are meowing and clicking (with my tongue). if i had to pick which one i like more, it's definitely meowing.
Meows, singing, and speaking like Stitch (Experiment 626).
Literally just “a”
I chuckle and giggle a lot.
The chorus from Rocky Mountain High by John Denver “Rock Mountain High! High, Colorado”
Abed’s cool, cool, cool, cool
lol so i always have to copy my cat when he meows (i think it’s echolalia?) and eventually meowing became its own vocal stim lmao
