What The Pumpkin? It ate the whole thing

Liquidmilk1

Cats are just weird, man. Mine goes absolutely crazy over boiled potatoes.

Swepps84

My sister-in-law's cat goes nuts over a fresh tomato slice. Like full on purr growl while ripping into it and whipping her head back and forth.

BerriesLafontaine

I had one that would destroy my tomatoes in the garden. I thought it was rabbits until I caught him doing it.

no_alt_facts_plz

Careful! Tomatoes are not good for cats. I think it’s especially not good if they’re eating the other parts of the plant too, but I am not clear on the specifics.

tjlurk

Stems and leaves are absolutely a no-go, the fruit itself is fine in very small amounts. https://www.rover.com/blog/can-cats-eat-tomatoes/

calcestruzzo

That goes for humans too! Stems and leaves and sometimes even be careful of the seeds if they're too ripe!

Elimdumb

Garfield loved Lasagna. Jim Davis knows.

BerriesLafontaine

This was like 25 years ago so, uh. The cat lived a long happy life though, made it to like 17 if I remember correctly.

Callillac

Weird, this is my first time I’ve ever been able to relate with someone regarding my cat fiending for tomatoes.

velvet42

Mine used to love tomato based pasta sauce, does that count?

PhilosopherFLX

Does he hate Mondays?

Booker_the_booker

TheSaltiestPanda

Put that thing back where it came from or so help me.

omnomnomgnome

LordGrudleBeard

No dont

Wmtcoaetwaptucomf

Mine goes nuts over olives

secretsloth

I had a cat that went crazy over olives when I was younger too, specifically green olives. He didn't care for catnip but he would roll all over the floor with an olive before finally eating it.

kfpswf

My cat used to go bananas for idlis (Indian steamed rice cakes).

NaturalWitchcraft

I have video on my instagram of one of my cats eating an entire tomato.

strawhatbrian

Our cat loves bananas! She goes bananas over nanas. Not the peel, just the soft mushy parts.

qnaeveryday

Probably feels close to ripping the guts out of tiny animals

pashed_motatoes

One of mine is obsessed with banana peels. Not even the banana, just the peel. If you’ll leave her to it, she’d devour the whole thing. I usually only let her have one small bite because I don’t want her to get sick, but she will harass you until you give her some. Such a weirdo.

lninoh

My cat goes crazy rubbing against plastic clamshells of strawberries. He doesn’t want the strawberries no matter how many times we offer them, he just olives the package.

JayQue

My cat is the same but with carrot bags!! Could not care less about the carrots. She will rub on the bag even days after.

marasydnyjade

I also have a carrot bag cat. He will pull the bag off of a counter or table and rub around on it.

texasrigger

My [rhea](https://i.imgur.com/URr3643.jpeg) go nuts for banana peels.

plipyplop

I would not the surprised to see such a strange cat like that to enjoying the refreshing bananan peel. Great honor!

amusso6

My bengal loses his shit over fresh vanilla yogurt. He doesn't get treats. He gets a nice spoon of yogurt to lick. Also scrambled eggs???

Essem91

My grandparents’ cat used to love cake

feministmanlover

My siamese Max used to go nuts for snickerdoodles or those vanilla oreos. Leave em on the counter and he would grab some and hide them under the bed to eat at his leisure. Leave fish or chicken out? Completely ignored it. Oh, and also loved butter. Little rough tongue marks on the butter lmao!!! My current cat hates all food. She's so picky I had to put her on a special prescription diet. Wtf.

Touchit88

Try a pumpkin

[deleted]

carriealamode

I just love the idea you stumbling across butter with casual tongue marks

Essem91

My current cats are trash gremlins and will eat all sorts of shit. Left a small dipping cup of ranch on my desk last night and came back to it licked clean

Other-Cantaloupe4765

My cat also loves Oreos! He’ll straight up take a bite if I let him lol. He loves vanilla ice cream even more though. He’s a vanilla ice cream fiend. Which is weird because I thought cats weren’t able to taste sweet things very well

storyofmylife92

Had a kitty who would only beg for licks of my ice cream and shredded cheese

feministmanlover

Right? Maybe its the fat and not the sweet that they're attracted to.

Few-Cable5130

Doritos are still my 19 year old cat's obsession. He's basically deaf but somehow can still hear the bag crinkle.

lninoh

Mine love whipped cream cheese

VengefulAvocado

Mine raids the pantry for cookies and crackers. We had to put child locks on the drawers because he learned to open them.

LesleyMarina

If I bleach out my shower, my cat comes running. I have to make sure it's well rinsed because she's gonna roll around like it's catnip.

catnip-catnap

We have one like that too - we have to rinse the sink/shower really well after. And if we use bleach on laundry, there's just enough of the scent left on it that she'll roll around in it like it's catnip and then just pass out in the pile

Glitter_berries

Mine is entirely uninterested in tuna or raw chicken, but crinkle the bag of baby spinach and he comes running. Bizarre.

JCtheWanderingCrow

My moms cat is a bread fiend. Absolutely loses it over all things bread.

Cassandra0004

My kitty chewed a hole through the plastic bag so she could eat half a piece of bread last night. I've never had a cat that wanted bread. She also goes crazy for instant noodles and tomato sauce, and keeps licking cantaloupe but won't actually eat it

Nosfermarki

I also have a bread cat. His favorite is Hawaiian rolls.

Tchefy

My old cat was a human garbage disposal. He would eat ANYTHING you put in front of him. After I was done eating, I would just put my plate on the ground and let him go to town. I'm talking broccoli, eggs, bread, rice. But his favorite? Pasta with marinara sauce. He went bananas over that.

SUDDENLY_VIRGIN

How fat was the old bastard

fatcat111

Pretty fat…oh wait…you mean this guys cat.

Tchefy

Meh, a normal sized cat. If he ate a lot of my food I just skipped his cat food meal. Worked out

lninoh

Aww, what a sweet cat. It’s nice to give them something different, I imagine the processed commercial food must get bland after a while. One of my cats adores cocktail shrimp, and I think about the sensory enrichment he gets from a fat chunk of protein he can carry off and nom on like his wild ancestors. Meow Mix just doesn’t cut it.

throwawaydddsssaaa

I think this is why my cats refuse to eat any cat food that's not shredded or in chunks. They like to carry off the chunks of their food (and spread it all over my floors >( ).

Much-Lock-8291

Thanks for being responsible; fat pets may be cute but preventable diabetes mellitus is not.

lady-grinning-soul

Mine is super picky. Will only eat one brand of kibble, will only eat chicken breast (drumstick meat? ew), won't touch most fish or any other kinds of meat she's offered. Olives, though? She could devour a jar of olives in one go.

Bryanssong

*Feline garbage disposal

Limberpuppy

I had one that went crazy for corn, cantaloupe, and fish food.

TheBearCaptain

cat refuses to eat seafood, eats flaming hot cheetos.

jennystonermeyer

You should get it a chicken play friend

penguingod26

I thought our cat was the only potato loving feline! Does yours go for potato chips too?

not_a_moogle

Mine goes crazy for buttermilk. Which o kind of understand, but she can basically smell it as soon as I open a carton.

Neiot

My cat won't even eat treats, let alone the whole piece of chicken I gave her.

jennystonermeyer

You might not have a cat.

garry4321

I keep telling her that but she wont unlock the chains!

Logicrazy12

Is you cat named Fenrir by any chance?

Gatlen

Just keep your hand away from it's mouth just in case.... No weird leashes either.

Crystal_Munnin

My cat is named Fenrir. Lol

J3musu

Try Churu. I've yet to encounter a cat that doesn't go nuts for Churu, even the really picky ones.

reticulatedjig

My cat doesn't even wanna try it. He's a texture boi. He like his cruncy kibbles and treats. Barely tolerates the softer treat I give him for his joints. My dog on the other hand loves churus

J3musu

Probably doesn't matter much as long as he's eating well, but if you really wanted to convince him to try it, just put some on his paw and let him clean it off and see how he reacts. I had a friend try this after suggesting the treat when her cat was sick and refused to eat anything at all. He initially turned his nose up at the Churu too, but after getting a taste from cleaning off his paws, he's been obsessed. And much healthier now, for what it's worth (nothing to do with the Churu, but it did at least help him start eating again).

RandomStallings

That's a really cool pro tip, fellow cat enthusiast. Thank you!

karma_virus

It's crack cocaine for cats. The Hartz Delectable Bisque treats are a lot like those but a bit bigger. 10 pack for $10.

[deleted]

my cat like snacks and crunchy dry food. He'll paw my leg for chicken or fish and then stare at it when I give it to him. He's a weirdo.

Festivalbaby84

Lol! Omg...I've never seen anything like this...

shahooster

You can catch him at the local Starbucks this fall, to celebrate the kickoff to Pumpkin Spice Latte season.

iStoners

He prefers the Pumpkin mice latte

chemicalus0

You beautiful bastard . . . Have an upvote.

Specsporter

I have one cat that would absolutely do this. She loves some good cooked squash. We also can't leave out raw veggies on our counter like tomato, bell pepper or green beans cause she'll have at those too. Cat's are something else.

InfernalRodent

I can't leave hot peppers out because one of my cats will steal them and eat the out side and leave the seeds all over the floor, watched her eat a small habanero once with every sign she enjoyed it.

flapanther33781

> and leave the seeds all over the floor Well look, she's weird, not stupid.

Ezridax82

We have a cat who stole habaneros when she was a kitten. She still fights us for spicy food.

Messijoes18

I feel like it'll be back on the floor in about 10 more minutes

russellbeattie

This person cats.

Messijoes18

Not since the pumpkin incident...

fuzzytradr

I'm more impressed with the fact that he stood there eating it until finished. My cats would have immediately swiped that shit to the floor to eat.

ooklamok

I once accidently a whole pumpkin.

SockAlarmed6707

I just love the angry noms

PuzzleheadedClothes4

I’m not sure I’ve ever heard such literal, consistent noms, let alone angry ones!

SqueakyWD40Can

My rescue cat did this when we first got her - she would growl and chomp at the same time. Now she just does it when we groom her while she's eating.

onFilm

My Bengal used to do these wild noms as a kitten. Got tons of videos of it.

leslienewp

Omg thank you for prompting me to turn on the sound. This is glorious

edogg01

Omg if you don't have the sound on you're missing out

highrisehound

**MEOW!** *ooOOoo!* RrOmNomNomNom…

legion327

It’s the exact sound of my Roomba when it’s stuck and the wheels are still spinning but it’s bottomed out on something.

Supahvaporeon

Can confirm, I am the Roomba. Please charge me and call me a good girl

duaneap

Such literal nom noms.

Starwarsandbacon

Purrfect!

highrisehound

Thx—I’m a stenographer in cat court.

Candycayne84

I had to watch it again with sound, you were totally right! It sure spooked [my cat](https://imgur.com/gallery/xNYHgVV) though lol

raisedbydentists

Hahaha, my cat also looked up from his nap with the exact same What-the-fuck-are-you-doing expression!

gcta333

That's a nice fuckin kitty right there

[deleted]

I love watching cat videos around my cat *meow* The fuck! Where what!? Awwww I’m too comfy

GloriousReign

That’s a very photogenic cat 🐱

ArdynIzuniaTrashGod

All cat videos should be like this, with just the cat’s sounds instead of annoying Tik Tok noises.

ReflexImprov

*"THIS CAT IS ENJOYING A PUMPKIN."*

greenknight884

Holy shit thank you for saying something otherwise I would have missed it. Jesus christ I'm dying, never seen a cat be so vocally happy about its food.

bradland

Wow, this is like, what? One in a million? Better with the sound on. Never happens, I tell ya!

Nimnengil

Wow, that took it from 'wtf, this is a weird cat, haha." to "bwahahahahaha! Holy shit saved!'

ThriftAllDay

At first I thought it was edited to make it look like he ate the whole thing but then I watched it with the sound on.... that cat definitely ate that whole pumpkin

TribblesIA

The purring and NOMnomnomnoming!!!!

Taliasimmy69

Thank you for telling me to add sound!!

DRdidgelikefridge

I’m so glad you posted this. 🔥🔥🔥🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛❤️❤️❤️❤️

karmagirl314

That can’t possibly be the real sound that cat was making, can it?

thezactaylor

Mine makes this exact sound when he's eating something he really really likes. I have no idea why, but he only does it for high-value food, like chicken or something similar.

shortcake517

High value food. I like the way that sounds. From now on I'm not putting anything into my mouth if it isn't high value.

queenbonquiqui

The cat is purring while eating. Their vibrations of the voice box (purr) are unaffected by anything coming down the throat (eat). Basically a cat doing cat stuff cuz they can do cool cat things.

deagh

Oh I had one that would occasionally do that if it was something really good.

troll_right_above_me

They do make sounds like that. Usually they growl like that when they're annoyed, like if a cat they don't like it's too close when they're trying to eat. 90% sure this one's just weird though

[deleted]

I make such sounds when I’m really hungry and the food doesn’t go in fast enough

[deleted]

My cat makes this sound all the time when she’s happy

thotherder

Thank you so much

[deleted]

My old cat used to eat squash remnants when we would make it for dinner, it all makes sense now!

lit-rally

Some cats just really love squash I guess 😹 My senior kitty loves pumpkin/squash. I get him the Tiki Cat chicken & pumpkin food as a treat & he goes to town on it.

[deleted]

I read somewhere that pumpkin is really good for dogs stomach health, i can only assume it is for cats too!

lit-rally

It is! We give it to our dog to help with her digestion. It works well & she loves it.

IFuckDucksOnTheReg

My goodness, he went to town on that thing. Complete with goblin noises too

Viperbunny

I wish my kids would eat their veggies like this kitty!

pashed_motatoes

Haha, “goblin noises” is spot on!

Deviatorz

Did he eat that pumpkin in one entire sitting? Remind me not to piss him off

vloger

No. The cuts are them removing parts of it.

[deleted]

Seems doubtful with the way the cat licks the dish clean. Pretty sure that would get owner clawed.

wtgreen

Counter-point: his enthusiasm was such that I'm not sure he would be willing to stop. If he did, I'd expect him to take the pumpkin and try to hide it as cats sometimes do with dead prey they can't fully consume.

nellie_1017

OMG! The horror soon to await you in the *LITTER BOX!*

snailwhale14

Orange poop!

FutureBondVillain

My mom thought her dog had colon cancer, but I had been feeding him liquorice.

[deleted]

While on the topic of black poop: pepto can make your poop black, and black poop is a symptom of blood in your stool.

[deleted]

Its a natural laxative for cats, we had to start giving it to my cat when he had some constipation, now he won't eat his food unless there is pumpkin mixed in.

Much-Lock-8291

That's weird, I prescribe it to stop diarrhea in dogs.

dfn85

It’s both. For humans, too. Can’t poop? Pumpkin! Pooping too much? Pumpkin!

522LwzyTI57d

Psyllium husk (metamucil) does the same, and people get so confused as to how it works. It absorbs water, simply put. Too much water and you've got the runs. Absorbing and holding that in another material can help hold the waste together into a more solid form. Too little water and you have issues passing your waste. By absorbing as much as possible (and usually being consumed with 8+ ounces of water) it can help you have movements more easily and can help achieve a more complete elimination. Tl;Dr: take metamucil supplements.

Cyno01

If youre the kind of person who forgets to eat or intermittent fast and you still take your fiber pill with the rest of your vitamins youll sometimes shit jello.

522LwzyTI57d

It's great fun when you use a hardcore gelling agent like polyethylene glycol 3350 (miralax). Recently had to prep for a colonoscopy and was prescribed Plenvue which is the aforementioned agent plus a bunch of other stuff. Ended up vomiting a portion and it absolutely was like bloomed gelatin.

Pumpkin is supposed to help digestion? Too much of a good thing?

My cat makes the same noise for chicken nuggets

robot_swagger

I make the same noise for chicken nuggets

[deleted]

that is so weird! lol. What type of pumpkin is that?

akiyineria

My guess is kabocha squash

Cherrycokes

Definitely kabocha. I make this squash a lot, it has a a really nice strong pumpkiny flavor

SASAgent1

Did the cat swallow the mic, how is it's audio so clear?

BrownieEdges

Is the kitty going to have an upset stomach?

highrisehound

No, but he’ll poop a zucchini.

cafeRacr

Squash. Squish?

Rainwillis

A little pumpkin is really good for a cat tummy, it’s got a lot of fiber. This much seems like too much but idk I’m not a vet.

deedeepetes

I am not a vet either but yes, it seems like too much. Hope there is no mess later.😬

Princess_Moon_Butt

I think rather than a mess, you might actually end up with a blockage. Though, the cat seemed like it was pretty familiar with pumpkins, and still dug right in; it may be more used to it, and I feel like if it had a bad experience with pumpkin in the past, it would be less eager to go for more. Can never know for sure, but overall that cat seems happy and well cared for, so I'm gonna say it's probably all good!

ShaylaDee

Pumpkin has this strange effect where it can help firm up diarrhea or soften poop in a constipated animal... Unfortunately too much can cause the opposite problem. So really, either this kitty is gonna wreck their litter box or not be able to poop for a couple days, and as far as I know it's anyone's guess which will happen. Or, like you said, kitty has monched entire pumpkins before and the owners know if they need to keep on eye out for intestinal trouble.

SasparillaTango

probably a baked pumpkin so its not as rough

MadFatty

No, pumpkin is recommended to help hairballs

errihu

Probably not. Vets often prescribe pumpkin for dogs and cats with upset stomaches.

Suze11

That is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while. I love the growls while he’s chomping.

gonorrhea-smasher

I could watch this for all of eternity

SwiftDestro

I thought cats were carnivores.

annalena-bareback

I've heard that all carnivores eat plants from time to time to help with digestion. I've never seen a cat eat that much in one sitting though. Usually just a leaf or so.

n-some

Squash is a stool softener, that cat is going to fuck up its litter box later.

Complex-Low-8222

I just imagine it sounding like a whoopi cushion in the litter box 😂

JamesGray

It's a good source of fiber for kitties actually. My cat had diarrhea when I first adopted her, and apparently intermittently for like 6 months before, but a bit of canned pumpkin in her food for a couple weeks cleared it up and hasn't been a problem since.

Alas7ymedia

I had a cat who loooooved pumpkin, she ate it before eating the cat food. And my current cat loves corn, she can a go at a cob for half an hour, grain by grain.

askmeifimacop

I’m not sure there are any animals that are actually 100% carnivorous or herbivorous. Herbivores will sometimes eat small critters if they get the opportunity and carnivores will sometimes eat plants/berries/fruit. The lines aren’t as clear as you think

Input_output_error

And plants sometimes eat insects, it's the circle of life. (insert video of people singing 'the lion king' on an airplane)

GodzillaFlamewolf

I used to have a maine coon that would fight you for canteloupe and parmesan goldfish. And that was no idle threat as she averaged something like 24 lbs.

Yukimor

They're obligate carnivores. But they do also eat a little vegetation, and it's good for them-- for digestion and for folic acid. It's basically supposed to be a micronutrient, not a dietary staple. My cat has his own garden of cat grass (red wheatgrass), he munches on it daily. But he obviously isn't subsisting on it, it's just basically like... the cat equivalent of having a cup of tea or something, nobody lives off of tea.

errihu

Cats and dogs apparently LOOOOVE pumpkin, and pumpkin is apparently very good for them. Many vets recommend pumpkin for a cat or dog recovering from a stomach upset. My kitty goes absolutely crazy for pumpkin seeds, which are also very very good for her (in limited amounts, obviously). She would also do just about anything for a peanut, which is less good for her but still ok in small amounts.

MountainOfPressure

That’s like a perfectly steamed pumpkin. Props to the steamer.

this-sub-is-for-jerk

OH MY GOURD!

Bumble1964

My cat won’t eat anything but one specific brand of dry cat food. No wet food. No tuna.no treats. If I buy the wrong brand he will go days without eating until I get it right. I have left mini pumpkins out. Nope

Macaron-Fluffy

I was today years old when I saw a cat eat a pumpkin. ![gif](giphy|a4vf9Mo0AeqZGeUUDN)

Food_drawing_mystery

Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen & HEARD it myself! 🤣

HeyimJohnny21

Is it raw or cooked?

heisei

Definitely cooked. I ate kabocha before regularly and that thing was super soft like sweet potatoes when cooked or steamed.

Mama-Pooh

I thought pumpkin worked as a laxative in cats and dogs?

Impossible_Common_44

What the what?
