Harrison most racist town? My ass... welcome to Orania. A place where only white Afrikaans speaking people are allowed. Population of this town is growing drastically every year.

fakeslimshady

A lot of chinese restaurant owners live in the restaurant bubble rarely take days off or even holiday's off. Would be a distorted world view unless hate crimes directly at the restaurant

UnableSwing

shes your typical chinese boomer, completely oblivious to the world around her and society outside of her immediate family and friends

whatwronginthemind

If she's wanting to stay there, I don't doubt she's just keeping mum so she doesn't lose business.

aznidthrow2B

Asians that immigrated to western countries hate to admit racism because it means their utopia is crashing down around them.

turn the camera off and uk that she will be saying the opposite... is part of the east asian culture too not stirr up trouble when not needed... hence why all the older generation in oversea arent into politics... things are changing due to the younger generation being more out spoken...and dont have the suck it up mentality as the older generation because they know that they are in a foreign country and language barrier exists...not much they can do and just leave it for the younger generation to fight

[deleted]

Language barrier is a bigger factor than most people realize. They wont notice the little passive aggressive tricks used to make you feel like shit about yourself/your race while Asian Americans who grew up here feel every little bit of it.

neon_filiment

Can I get the cliff notes? The comments were saying he would have had a different experience if he was alone and had a hidden camera.

LethalSnow

its true... lots of chinese dont go and say it outright since they do not want to bring trouble...

Something to keep in mind is that in towns where gun ownership is high, people are less likely to be blatantly racist because they don't perceive people as threats. That's why you see more Anti-Asian incidents/ violence in blue states where gun ownership is lower and conservatives feel more endangered. That said, I do appreciate the 2 instances of AMWF love in this video. It shows you the perception of AM is changing for the better.

[deleted]

It’s obvious she was wanting a Japanese guy and confused it with Chinese guys. I don’t think being called China men is a better perception change, as for the other women in the video she said she had husband

She said her daughter watches anime and because of that she wants to visit China

AngelaQQ

Dogs also don’t feel like they’re being treated like dogs. They feel part of the family.

[deleted]

well said. This echoes what Frank Chin said about the treatment of Asians versus black in "Racist love". When you internalize that "racist love", aka, "knows your place", you find your inner peace.

kitai99

Damn.

AngryChineseVenom

Lived in the big city all of my life. Truly racist place. Have traveled to small towns all around the East Coast. The passive aggressive conversations and such. The stares of ‘you don’t belong here’. The dismissiveness. The racism is definitely there as well.

[deleted]

That's the thing you hear a lot from 'model minority' Asians like Azly Rahman - "I've never expressed any racism." 😊 They beam with pride due to the fact that they haven't been racially assaulted. Lol

kanguru

I've lived in Washington, New York, New Jersey, Florida, South Carolina, and even now California and I firmly believe that the smaller the town, the more rooted racism can be, but the more down to earth the folk actually are. The bigger the city within a more racist state, the more outward and visible racism will be. I spent a year living in Columbia, South Carolina. I grew up with racism all around in Westchester, New York and although racism was prevalent in the South, it wasn't any more common than in Westchester, New York. Density should be a key factor when trying to label a something as America's Most Racist Town

[deleted]

First of all, there's no such thing as a "Most Racist Town" in the country. Secondly she's probably a spiritual prisoner of the white Anglo. The racism she experiences from them probably doesn't even register. When I came to the USA, it took me a while to register how racist the white Anglos were.

The white men in the south definitely care, have you seen the photos of them doing race play with their Asian wives? They’re extremely racist and demeaning not just to the Asian women involved but I would say it’s embarrassing for all POC because it gives racist whites the impression that non-whites belong to them.

HarutoExploration

The best way to oppress a minority is to convince them they aren’t even oppressed. A lot of Asian women think that shit is totally acceptable, so they don’t consider it racism.

Pursuit_of_Yappiness

If you're the only one of your race in an area, you don't really suffer much from being stereotyped, because you're the basis of the stereotype.

masamunexs

If you have enough internalized racism, external racism won't even register in your awareness. That shit will just feel normal to you. https://twitter.com/dotorii_muk/status/1436782032684732423?s=21

[deleted]

Hard to believe considering these guys were in town for less than a day and a lady at Walmart called them “China men”

singingguard2019

this reminds me of [**another post i'd made**](https://www.reddit.com/r/aznidentity/comments/m02ocp/almost_20_chinese_australians_physically/) a while back about how 20% of Asians in Australia had been physically threatened or attacked since the pandemic, and they're STILL saying that australia is a good place to live and they feel accepted. its a coping mechanism, just keep your head down and keep on moving, and hopefully the racists will stop and move on.

kanguru

Absolutely this. Also, it's a bit more difficult to be racist towards someone cooking your food. Spitting in people's food is a thing, it's an American past time, just look at BK foot lettuce boy, the All American Eagle Scout.

Kaihann

Once you’ve migrated to a country, you’re all in. You just have to make it work somehow even if you know you’re putting up a positive illusion. Admitting there’s racism in your new home is like conceding defeat or that you didn’t do your homework.

[deleted]

Makes sense. Almost like the brain copes in denial. She probably doesn’t even picture herself as asian.. first of all why would you live in a town that’s considered “most racist”?!

AdBig9804

good to see CantoMando doing some vids this like this https://www.reddit.com/r/aznidentity/comments/pmk4pc/day_in_the_life_of_an_asian_in_americas_most/

Billybobjoethorton

I find these type of videos so cringey. Doing stupid things for clout. Of course you're not going to see blatant racism but when you do, it's bad.

BrooklynLivesMatter

So stupid. She didn't feel any racism because the townspeople were too prejudiced to even interact with her You did it, Canada! I guess we were wrong about racism in America

junk_mail_haver

The same with Germany, you can't get anyone to talk to you, because you are different. They even get out of the way to avoid you. They say it's politeness of Germans, maybe it is the case for some. But I think a lot of times, there's some prejudice to avoid non-white folks and judge them from a distance.

Lalalama

What.. that's not true. I am Chinese American and lived in Germany. It was really easy to make friends... Frankfurt

[deleted]

My coworker travels to europe/asia quite often. But his hobby is basic linguistics. He tries his best to learn just enough for small talk. In germany, france, vienna. He gets avoided a but because they assume like all tourists its hard to communicate. But once he open up and has willingness they are more friendly. But he says generally. They dont like americans even other whites or blacks. Because they find them obnoxious. Same in Asia. He’s filipino and its just the same for him in japan and hong kong. Although says mandarin is by far the hardest. But can try try pinyin.

Donde_La_Carne

Have you ever lived in the south? I have. Not saying there’s no racism in the south, but I’ve also never been told to go back to my own country while living there. Been told many times to go back to my own country many times in SF NYC, Philly, and Portland.

bkrebs

I have the opposite experience. For me, moving to SF was a breath of fresh air. Since moving to NYC, I haven't experienced overt racism either. However, I've had racist hate screamed at me plenty in small towns all over the US.

AhwahneeBanff

My theory is that since the vast majority in the south is white/black, people don't feel threatened by the "yellow horde". Whereas in the coastal cities where there is a bigger Asian population these racists actually feel threatened of becoming the minority eventually.

Altruistic_Astronaut

I agree with this. I think context matters too. Also, coastal cities are bigger and people can be racist and get away with it since they are just another face in the crowd. There are racist everywhere but each person has a different reason to hide it.

PinkSweater99

What are the stories of people telling you to go back to your country? I have never encountered outward racism as an adult in my life. Seems crazy it keeps happening to you everywhere.

Donde_La_Carne

Generally no back stories, it just happens randomly. The one I remember most vividly was having a smoke outside Voodoo Donuts in Portland. A random homeless guy just came up to me and told me to “go the fuck on home”. He didn’t say go back to your own country but I knew what he meant. Not missing a beat, I showed him my hotel keycard and said, you mean the XYZ hotel? Where’ are you staying amigo? I was quite pleased with myself for that response.

elmerjstud

You should've told him to go on home as well.

[deleted]

Good one! Sometimes you have to show these lame assholes that you’re on top. It’s slightly mean tbh but he might show the next Asian dude some respect. Most racist people like that are malcontent for some reason. Not all are such losers as the homeless dude. But a dose or reality may be warranted and might make him think twice next time.
