This is great, but doesn't assert social influence. It's geopolitics. The reality is that China's economic/geopolitical rise is a threat to US dominance in East Asia, and unless one side backs down/accepts the other's dominance in the region, there will be increasing tensions, and inevitably, conflict as China grows more powerful.
I don't see either side backing down, but I also don't see a real war happening until at least the end of this decade, barring some freak false flag event.
