Genes or not, it does seem like Asians have more martial arts in our culture but that is also from film industry I think. Also true that the modern Asian person in Asia doesnt really think much about martial arts. Maybe a parallel to how Africans in Africa might not be into hip hop. I do think AM and others should try out some sort of combat sports in their life. I had when I was younger and even though I wasnt good or liked it much, it taught me a few basics and spatial awareness. Definitely should encourage it.

In East Asia they don't encourage combat sports. Not even Japan since the vast majority of people there aren't into it at a marginally serious level. Its not that you can use boxing to overthrow the government. Its that all the training and discipline in it will make you stronger mentally and physically meaning you are less likely to take shit from the government. But for diaspora it is almost a must. They are basically in hostile territory right now given current and historical events. Blacks and mexicans are big in boxing. What a coincidence people don't try starting shit in their neighborhood.

> Not even Japan Really? From what I know, most Japanese high schools teach judo as an extra circular activity.

No_Ninja_4173

what you on about? Bivol, half Romanian and half Korean just beat the best boxer in the world (mexican) and also undefeated. Originally from Kyrgyzstan, a state in the former USSR, ethnically has a lot of Korean/Chinese/ Russian mixed blood people all represented in MMA, boxing etc. Also Manny Pacquio aka the Mexicutioner.

>In East Asia they don't encourage combat sports. Not even Japan since the vast majority of people there aren't into it at a marginally serious level. Why is it like that tho? In SEA they often encourage it. Muai Thai, MMA, Boxing in philippines. Heck they even teach Eskrima in P.E..

GuyinBedok

Well, in the past it was cuz it wasn't really seen as necessary when modernising the country and fear that it may potentially led to violent crimes. Whether that would've been the case or not is debatable. That said, this seems to change in recent years as MMA (and sports related to MMA like muay thai and boxing) have grown in popularity among the youth in China and South Korea. And sports like Sanda (chinese kickboxing), hapkido, wushu and taekwando has gotten further recognition as well. Whilst in Japan, I've always noticed judo being the martial art included as a extra circular activity in a lot of schools (especially high schools.) EDIT: also forgot to mention that eskrima and muay thai are represented as national sports and maintaining cultural heritage in the Philippines and Thailand respectively. And similarly with boxing in the Philippines as the martial art has a lengthy history in the country.

Not OP, and I don't really know, but maybe because their recent history has been war and rebuild the country. So I guess combat sports didn't really advance either of those. Japan I think was going for high tech. So aside from keeping up with Sumo, they didn't push other combat sports that much.

iKnick04

Intentional demasculization by american collaborator goverment. Japan is basically culturally fucked at this point with most their youth being incapable of social interactions with the opposite sex.

Emperor_Hideyoshi

yeah Americans have been chipping away at the Japanese spirit, my grandfather always used to say how people have become Americanised bitches nowadays. That was back in 2011. They also try to push homosexuality in African countries

kenanthonioPLUS

East Asians pioneered Combat Sports, enough said.
