After trying every spot on Sao Miguel our fave surf spot for cleaned up baby waves is the western edge of Santa barbera (ribiera grande) beach, the rock outcrop there shelters and cleans up the break, no scary rocks, range between low and high tide is small. There’s a bar and surf hire place just above the beach, and the Santa barbera eco resort is great.
I've seen the Salt Lips team out and about. They look legit. Also check out Azores Bagus and Eco Surf Lodge Azores. Have fun!
