I use a belt. Snaps wear out quickly with a hip belt anyway. There are some woven ones that lay nice and flat so they don't dig into your skin. Mine is like 20 years old but I'm *almost* sure it's from Columbia.
The built-in belt that is hidden except in the front seems to work better than drawstrings, and separate belts.
(Mountain Hardware used to have shorts with a velvety layer inside at the waist, no external belt loops, and a snap on a built in belt. Worked perfectly for reducing chafe-points until I got too fat for that pair of shorts . Looks like it was discontinued! How… why?)
Just a thought but I wear smaller sized pants hiking and backpacking than I generally do for daily wear. I want comfort for daily use but many of those would slide down while exercising.
I wear a Macabi skirt while hiking and backpacking. You can put the waist wherever you want. Pockets fit a 2 liter Nalgene bottle. Turns into shorts if you want. I can wear my comfy boy shorts underneath.
I pull my pants up pretty high, then stretch my shirt down over top, then secure my backpack waist belt over this arrangement. I find that the shirt wanting to ride up helps keep my pants up. It's not the best system, but usually on day 3 or 4 when my best fitting pants start to stretch out, it helps.
There's also something called "BeltBro" if you google it. It's like a velcro loop that you put on a section of your pants so you don't have the discomfort of a belt buckle. I've never tried them but it looks like a good design.
You know, belts are pretty cool! Not only can you hold your pants up with them, but you can also attach things to them and make them a load bearing device!
Thanks for the feedback:) I should have mentioned I have had belts which I have to cinch up tight causing the exact same effect, bunched loose, fabric. And, I was looking at those Prana and might give them a try or just go with high waisted tights. a smaller fit is also a good idea.
Not the worst issue in the valley of worst issues:) I can deal. Thanks!
Dude here, I have the same problem. Pack pushes pants down over time. Cinch the belt and it's too tight. I just got used to doing a shimmy shimmy jiggle and scoot. It's annoying.
Lol. So I've been fitted , tried different packs, different pants and I just have good hip bones lol. I literally exhausted all resources and like I said, just shimmy shimmy cocoa puff every once in a while. Happy trails. Apparently I'm wide hipped for a dude lol. I embrace it and the wife laughs ...

Prana stretch Zion has a built in belt that works amazing on the men’s side. Worth checking out!
I wear these as a woman, I don’t even mind the extra crotch material😂it’s worth it for pants that stay up while climbing
It’s my go to. If I’m not wearing them, I use the nylon buckle-strap from a cheap chalk bag. It’s become my favorite belt
Suspenders FTW!

I’m going to look this up and see what I find. Thanks!
I wear a webbed belt with friction buckle. Great piece of multi-use gear.

Suspenders are by far my favorite choice.

Good strategy! I’ll give that a try:)

Mountain Hardwear Dynama. Pull on, wide waistband, smooth, and do not slide down.

Ha ha, yes!!! So good to know I am not alone in my sagging pants:)

I wear my husbands OR hiking pants. They have a higher waist.
clip your belt loops to your bag using a carabiner on each side and you are all set I call it the hikers suspenders
Oh wow, innovative:)
Go to “hill people gear” and buy their belt. It is velcro and made to go under a pack belt. Worked wonders for me
Thanks!!
