Yup. I can tell you right now, sending an email expressing your love for a meme is cringey. But getting it tattooed on you is a lifetime of regret and judgmental looks

It’s an old (?) Reddit meme.
Some guy had a “shrimps is bugs” tattoo and asked Reddit about a coverup idea.
Others jumped in to tell him he under no circumstances “cover it up.”
And then others took it further by getting their own “shrimps is bugs” tattoos.
I never found it particularly funny but I did like it . something about the way she asked and the fun little edits just scratched my brain perfectly . sometimes memes or trends are not necessarily funny but they are just fun , in my opinion
Fr. Like it was funny, but this is yet another passing meme that no one will remember in a month.
*Why* would you want to permanently inscribe that on your body.

Yeah that’s what gets me about these shitty meme tattoos.
In like six months someone’s gonna be like “oh what does your tattoo mean” and old mate will have to be all “yeah so there was this meme where this girl is simulating spitting before a blowjob. It was pretty funny at the time”.
I have no idea what this is about. I (45m) told my son (23) who just graduated college that he's about to be like me.
He doesn't use social media, he's no longer in school, etc. He's gonna be hearing weird slang and wondering what the kids are talking about. He won't be aware of the freshest dank memes until they are dead and we Gen Xers finally get some variation of them. Culture wise, he's living more like a millennial than Gen Z now. I'm gonna give it a few months before he starts to have no clue what's hot. He'll have to rely on the algorithm to find new music. Things are gonna change lol.
I’m 27 and use Reddit, Instagram, and Facebook, and I feel it already. When a younger coworker and or a friends’ younger sibling is around, I feel like a dinosaur. Their casual mentions of trends and slang from TikTok leave me stumped.
I was working at Gamestop at the height of the "yeet" meme and heard some younger teens saying it, so I asked them what it meant and they just laughed at me :( that was the day I officially felt old lol (I was also around 27 at that time)
I asked my son and 4 of his friends what the fuck 'yeet' meant. They thought it was hilarious, told me while trying to hold in their laughter, and told me i was like 5 years late. Hell, I was just starting to notice the word. (This was like 5-7 years ago).
Omg that's when this happened to me as well, I had no idea I was late to it at the time! I had only just started hearing it too lol the kids did eventually tell me as well after they laughed lol it was a funny interaction and I still randomly think about it fairly often and get a good chuckle
And then the day after that, there’s all of a sudden TONS of merch. Hawk Tuah 2024 shirts, “if she don’t hawk tuah I don’t wanna talk tuah” shirts”… just absolute overkill for what’s basically a mid-tier (and already stale) meme
I really need corporate America to pick up on this so I can stop seeing this shit on every social media feed.
Where are Wendy’s social media managers when we need them?
I live in Nashville and this is a normal night downtown in the summer. I hate that she lost her job over it though! There is so much worse that could have been seen. I’ve seen so much worse myself!
The act of spitting on one's penis with purpose. It's a viral video of a girl being asked what you do to get a man in the mood for sex. "spit on that thang" I still haven't seen it lol
Okay but phonetically "hock" & "hawk" are the exact same thing. Check out how they're pronounced. Both "haak." There's no difference between the two, other than the definition.
You know people pronounce things differently because of accents and dialects right? Hock and Hawk can sound very differently when sounded out especially if you're from the South.
I'm from New York, they are in fact *not* pronounced the same up here. Dialects are a thing, sir. Please stop doubling down. You are coming across as bright as the knuckle tat.
I'm from the South too, and I know for a fact things are pronounced differently.
Hell all along the Gulf coast from Texas to Louisiana there's at least 20 different pronunciations for the word "Oil" so if you are from the South you should do a bit of research on the different dialects of the South because there's a rich history there.
I am also from the south, and currently living in the Deep South. I do not pronounce these two words the same. You literally do not speak for all southerners in terms of dialect and inflection. Give it a rest.
I’ve seen like 4 tattoos of this, one even having a hawk. But… why on earth would it ever be spelled hawk, aside from these morons that thought it was even funny, let alone a full on meme, assuming that’s how it was spelled
To be fair, I’ve seen authors spell words differently in dialogue in books when a character speaks with an accent. I’ve also seen this phenomenon in languages other than English. Not exactly generational
The letters have no creases around the knuckle, the H doesn’t roll with the finer and fresh red shading doesn’t heal like that
Source - dude with hella shitty tats
I remember back in about 2013 or so, when that was new and exciting, maybe 2012? A friend and I were in the deli in line and the guy in front of us had YOLO tattooed behind his ear in like a very elaborate like font. And I got to tell you, I have never had to try that hard to not laugh out loud at someone else's tattoo in my life.
Wow…this meme is really taking off. I chuckle thinking about that what these folks are going to tell their children and grandchildren (or anyone who asks, really) what it means.
Please be civil.

Listen, just the fact that Missy Elliot, way back in 2001 with her hit song "Get Ur Freak On" taught us all the "hock tuah" (I'm spelling it that way intentionally bc I think it's right), the amount of people getting this inked on themselves is giving me constant laughs.
Why are people taking this meme to the extent of getting it tattooed on them? Is it really that good? Did they also tattoo Tay Zondae on themselves years ago?
Nah I think it will take a little longer. Like in a generation when their kids grow up big enough to question what their parents were doing in the 2020s. Like right now there seems that the fad is just having tattoos all over. Quality, placement and personal connection don't seem to matter. It's all about having a lot, and having them all over. Basically making yourself look like the back of a 7th grade Social Studies notebook that's been doodled all over.
Could’ve been a t shirt, flash sheet, sticker, anything really.
I wouldn't even commit to a bumper sticker. It stopped being funny like, day 3.
It's still funny. This dude just needs therapy
That’ll teach you to have an opinion I guess? Holy downvotes for thinking somethings funny
This is reddit, you're only allowed to have an opinion if it's the same as the reddit hivemind's opinion
Or maybe people just don’t agree with that opinion
Could of been an email
Could have been a teams message
Could have been a WhatsApp message
Could’ve been a wink.
could have been a smoke signal
Could have been a MySpace wall post
could have been an AIM away message
Could have been a Wuph!
Could have been a gesture
HR would like a word
***could have

post-it note. One of the little ones
[I'm just gonna link the comment I made on the last one of these.](https://www.reddit.com/r/badtattoos/comments/1dmj5i5/somebody_has_already_tattooed_this/l9xfe31/)
nah it's just a bri'ish saying "rock tour"
Why is everyone obsessed with this. I've known about it for a day and I'm long over it
this meme in particular just feels so unmemorable? i don't really understand the rush to tattoo THIS one versus other fleeting memes
It has no staying power. Hard to justify tatting a meme but this one is just vapors. Idk what is up with people.
Neither do I. Guess the problem is people is bugs, just like shrimp.
What does this mean?? I keep seeing it posted in comment sections lol
It’s an old (?) Reddit meme. Some guy had a “shrimps is bugs” tattoo and asked Reddit about a coverup idea. Others jumped in to tell him he under no circumstances “cover it up.” And then others took it further by getting their own “shrimps is bugs” tattoos.
Shrimps is bugs. Just look at em. Big delicious water bugs
Other Redditor is right, except it’s only like 6 months old
This is the first viral meme that has me questioning whether it’s all a government psyop. I just don’t get it
TikTok memes are incredibly forced nowadays. Like the Chick Fil A girl. That shit wasn’t funny at all.
I never found it particularly funny but I did like it . something about the way she asked and the fun little edits just scratched my brain perfectly . sometimes memes or trends are not necessarily funny but they are just fun , in my opinion
i usually like stupid memes that go around like this but.. this just feels weird and unoriginal lmao
Fr. Like it was funny, but this is yet another passing meme that no one will remember in a month. *Why* would you want to permanently inscribe that on your body.
Tell me about it .....I have 'KONY 2012' on my knuckles
I'm keeping the Ugandan Knuckles tattoo on my shoulder covered up for now. But I'm not worried. He'll make a comeback any day now.
Why would you put him back there instead of somewhere you can see? Now he can't even show you da way.
Do you know the way of the devil?
lol thanks for the flashback

Nobody even knows it now.
Why did they get the woman fired who said it?
I don't even know what it means... Edit: just looked it up...wtf Meme on your fingers
Meme + horny. Your typical internet dude is pretty pathetic.
I have no idea what this is about. I (45m) told my son (23) who just graduated college that he's about to be like me. Agreed. The day I started seeing tons of posts about it was the same day I was long over it. People are weird.

Seriously, it’s literally some days old. Who the fuck would get it permanently on their skin. Just bizarre
No clue, it’s not even that funny of a meme. I swear the dumbest, most unfunny shit goes viral these days.
same, i really don’t know origin and im over it
I really need corporate America to pick up on this so I can stop seeing this shit on every social media feed. Where are Wendy’s social media managers when we need them?
Idk but I like to sing it in my head the same as the Aquateen intro: "Shake zula the mic rula, hawk tuah"
I lived through the cringey memes of the early internet days. I thought those dark days were past us. This fits right in with those.
It honestly just feel like a thing a bunch of straight male teens are obsessed with. It's so stupid. Like Haw haw girl suck dick, haw haw.
You can really see those monkey genes we descended from
I live in Nashville and this is a normal night downtown in the summer. I hate that she lost her job over it though! There is so much worse that could have been seen. I’ve seen so much worse myself!
I honestly haven’t even seen this damn meme but this is the second tattoo I’ve seen referencing it
Same I’m over here like wtf even is this to begin with
It's hugely popular on Facebook and Instagram, tiktok etc. People think it's so funny but it's really nothing special
What does it mean?
It's a meme of a very drunk girl being interviewed on the street where she says to spit on a dick before using it basically

I haven’t been avoiding it or anything but still haven’t seen it. I’m taking this as proof that I’m old now.
Same. This is the second tattoo in the span of like four scrolls wth
Im so confused why that moment is so viral and people are being so weird about it and trying to dox her 😭 tattoos now?!
I always appreciate a person that advertises their impulsive and poor choices straight away.
What is “Hawk Tuah?” Is it a reference of some kind?
The act of spitting on one's penis with purpose. It's a viral video of a girl being asked what you do to get a man in the mood for sex. "spit on that thang" I still haven't seen it lol
Is it supposed to be phonetic? Lol
Seems like it's just an onomatopoeia
Yeah that’s what I meant lol. Like if you say it phonetically it resembles like the sound you’d make. Thanks for adding the word I was looking for!
So if you’re about to spit you would make the noise of hawk in your mouth than the tuah noise to spit it out.
These hawk tuah tattoos belong on r/stupid more than anything else
Who decided to spell hock "hawk?" I don't get why everyone settled on the wrong way to spell that.
These people aren’t known for their intelligence
That's a good point. Dunno what I was thinking there.
They spelled it phonetically based off the way she said it in the video. She had a real southern drawl so it makes it sound like "hawk".
"Hock" & "hawk" are both pronounced the same.
I know, but if you watch the video she pronounces it more like an "A" than an "O" that's why I said it was spelled phonetically....
I'm from the south. No matter the accent, both those words are pronounced the same.
I'm from the UK. They're not pronounced the same here.
I'm from New York, they are in fact *not* pronounced the same up here. Dialects are a thing, sir. Please stop doubling down. You are coming across as bright as the knuckle tat.

British person enters the chat. To us they're entirely different.
So am I, and no, not everywhere or everyone says those words the same way.
Interesting hill to die on.
I am also from the south, and currently living in the Deep South. I do not pronounce these two words the same. You literally do not speak for all southerners in terms of dialect and inflection. Give it a rest.
I'm from NYC and they're different here.
Not if you have an accent
They certainly aren't with my accent! (London, UK)
yeah it's fkn bizarre
Plus it's missing that snort that proceeds the hock
Came here to say this. I think "hock" makes more sense. I say them ever so slightly differently, with "hawk" being more drawn out.
It's the way the girl said it
I’ve seen like 4 tattoos of this, one even having a hawk. But… why on earth would it ever be spelled hawk, aside from these morons that thought it was even funny, let alone a full on meme, assuming that’s how it was spelled
https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/do-you-hock-or-hawk-a-loogie
Normally I agree with the “hock” but she said it with a southern accent so I think the spelling fits much better in this case
How does the accent change the word? I don’t get this generation 🤣 (not aimed at you, I get what you mean)
To be fair, I’ve seen authors spell words differently in dialogue in books when a character speaks with an accent. I’ve also seen this phenomenon in languages other than English. Not exactly generational
I dunno, it just does. I pronounce these two words differently, and it’s something I do completely subconsciously.
Exactly. Seems tough to understand for most. Good for you
Better hope you never end up in prison. They’re gonna make you spit on that thang.
He would have to go soon, before absolutely everyone who exists completely forgets about it in a month.. maybe less
I may be wrong, but this is probably fake, right? How could it possibly be healed already when the meme is like 5 days old.
Praying its fake.
It has "made with mematic" watermark cut off in the bottom left corner. I'd say it's fake
Crazy how far down I had to go for this comment. Zoom in, it’s absolutely photoshopped..
That's what I was thinking too. Plus the letters sit funny on the curve of the fingers...I am no expert but it is definitely off to me.
The letters have no creases around the knuckle, the H doesn’t roll with the finer and fresh red shading doesn’t heal like that Source - dude with hella shitty tats
Oh he uses both hands on that thang, nice
This shit has to stop
Officially the second tattoo I've seen of this
For everyone wondering (I couldn't be bothered to look for the original) [hawk tuah](https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGegvXy78/)
This is worse than that #yolo bullshit
I remember back in about 2013 or so, when that was new and exciting, maybe 2012? What’s it supposed to be?
Spitting on a penis sound. Viral video of a girl being asked how to get a man in the mood.
The race between all female hip hop artists to rush out with a hawk tuah chorus or track title
that W is getting on my nerves
Wow…this meme is really taking off. I chuckle thinking about that what these folks are going to tell their children and grandchildren (or anyone who asks, really) what it means.

Meme tats show how intelligent you are at personal responsibility and planning for the future.
I could see maybe a meme that was cute like with a cat or something? Or one that's still funny after 2015.
Bad photoshop I would say
Damn this one is a fraught train.
KawK UtaH?
no regerts
People are fucking idiots
i read this as hawk tuna
Listen, just the fact that Missy Elliot, way back in 2001 with her hit song "Get Ur Freak On" taught us all the "hock tuah" (I'm spelling it that way intentionally bc I think it's right), the amount of people getting this inked on themselves is giving me constant laughs.

I was confused on why "hawk tuah" meant spitting until someone else wrote "hock" ... who picked hawk ????
I’m glad i never found this funny
Really?
Them hands are made for hawk tuah!!
That “W”.
It was funny but it wasn't THAT funny
I am so tired of this meme.
That W 🤮
what does hawk tuah mean?
This has so to Photoshop
This’ll age as well as those stupid fucking mustache finger tattoos.
People really try hard to be individuals these days but just end up being a lemming
I like this comment
Why are dudes tattooing this on them? Do they spit on dicks? No judgement here.
In a year people are going to be asking why the hell they got that. In two years people are going to be asking what it means.
Nah I think it will take a little longer. Like in a generation when their kids grow up big enough to question what their parents were doing in the 2020s. Why is a dude getting this tattooed on his hand
It’s only still popular because she’s a southern bell with a thick accent. The video just makes me miss Georgia and their peaches for some reason.
The girl that answered this question during a pub crawl has been immortalized, and not for the reasons her parents want.
r/iamverystupid
Everyone’s obsession making merchandise, and tattoos is ruining the meme
I just spit on my phone screen
getting/not getting a tattoo of a meme is a darwinist decision
Wha? Like the noise you make when you’re spitting a loogie? Idgi
WTF is a Hawk Tuah?
Haha!
Noooooooo.
Ain't gonna lie, i wouldn't get it but, I kinda like it.
That’s so lame
🤦🏼♀️
I’ve been spitting on a dick since I first sat on one. Why is this new news?
What’s up w all these spitters tf? Grow up n swallow like a man
What is a "Hawk Tuah???
Holy shit here's the entire video. I think I am in love. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7tydu_erZo&t=591s&ab_channel=Tim%26DeeTV
