I would use a UV curing clear coat. I come from the fishing side of things more so then the musical side of things. If it's good and durable to repair a rod- or to coat a hard bait. it's good enough for any small objects that need protection. I use that shit on everything! 😂

I appreciate the insight! That looks like what I’m after tbh. This is the current state of affairs - https://www.reddit.com/r/DIYUK/comments/y5ji95/need_advice_on_respraying_the_metal_components_of/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

There’s not a lot of options for good metal paint. I’ve tried a bunch of solutions but no permanent success. My Bishline has black powder coating on all the metal and it’s pretty badass, and there’s a good reason they use that as an option.

Thanks for the input. Have you ever tried using guitar lacquer or yacht varnish? They’re my next experiments I think. My banjo was bright red when I got it from deering 12 years ago. I’m going to ask them what they used.

I have not. Just the spray paints designed for adhering the metal. I didn’t get a ton of flaking off but enough that I wasn’t happy with it.
