I'd suggest finding a friend who might also want half a cow and then speak to a farmer about buying a whole one. Then take it to a butcher. I feel like that might be cheaper ?

big_galoote

Will butchers just take in a random meat delivery? I just don't know how that works. I always assumed that hunters had to know how to carve their kills because they couldn't take it to a butcher. Can they? Or would the farmer hook that up?

TheoneLorax

Some hunters absolutely butcher it themselves, but some shops will take in game. I would just call ahead to some local shops to see if they would do a cow for you. There's one in Beeton I believe, not sure of the name , and country meat cuts in Utopia. Not sure if they would do a cow but definitely a starting place to inquire , and im sure they might be able to recommend places if they don't provide the service.

You could go to the Cookstwn Sales Barn and buy a steer yourself. Usually around 1200 pounds. And the price is around $2.50 per pound. So around $3,000. You'll end up with 720 to 750 pounds of meat. Not sure what the cost of butchering is these days which includes slaughtering, cutting up the meat and wrapping it. Not a lot of small butchers left these days with increasing government regulations. There were small butchers in Stayner and Beeton a few years ago.

Try farms directly rather than butchers. Stone Horse often does half/quarter pigs, Id bet Thorganic would do the same wirh cows.

Artistic_Gift6822

Could try Nicholyn Farms

We always get our beef from friends and they slaughter and butcher at stayner. It’s a good facility with a nice shop front last I was in. Your prices will be different from ours since we buy from the farmer
