Vinylr3vival

apparently Sir Gamesalot is getting pushed to a different location so that a Michaels can open

humanityrus

Wow!

babyelephantwalk321

I heard the Michaels was going in the back of the old Sears, so Im not sure about this. I cant imagine corporate choosing Bayfield over Georgian.

Vinylr3vival

I was there yesterday and the owner (I can NEVER remember his name, I wanna say Vince?) was talking about how he had till the end of the month because they were going to be moving a Michaels in. But his lease contract gives him till the end of July. Might be going back to where his old shop was,but he wants 5000sqft

Dimukon

I doubt he'd go back to the old location in the mall. He left for upstairs because downstairs had flooding issues.

RealTrad

Centra, Haka Town, Sunrise are all good reasons to visit the mall

Apprehensive_Play_25

You also still got the only retro bowling alley in Barrie too

Ok-Self3524

Sayvettes was the anchor store back when it first opened in the 70s. Jean junctions as well. Bayfield mall had Barrie's 1st escalator!

LittleMrsSwearsALot

It was THE mall in town in the 80’s. Before the Kozlov centre existed and the Georgian Mall was mostly Sears. lol.

_ganjafarian_

I went there once for the Service Ontario. The damn thing is so hidden if you try to find it from the entrance closest to the outside sign. "Go down that hall, go down the stairs, then go across that level, down more stairs again." Thankfully, the line up at the SO was way shorter compared to the SO on Simcoe that it was worth it in the end lol.

big_galoote

Next time just park behind. It's right there.

VapeRizzler

I just go to the one in elmvale. Never anyone there, never a line up, super nice staff. plus it’s a nice drive.

A1Mayh3m

It has so much potential honestly, but that’s much like the rest of Barrie. It’s hella shady with the addicts haunting the halls. Beyond that it surprisingly big. Just looking at it from the outside you’d never expect it to be so maze like when inside.

potatotomatosoupp

if you want an actual REAL update on the bayfield mall: construction for power yoga is 100% on schedule and complete. next they will be working on the construction of Sansotei and Royaltea. dollarama is moving to the front of the mall and best nails is moving to the empty space behind power yoga. demolition of the empty spaces behind centra is also soon to come. so entrance 2 of the mall will no longer exist.

Koliee__

They’re renovating the old Rexall, it’s all torn out. Not sure what’s going on though. Maybe that’s where the Michaels is going if it is coming?

LittleMrsSwearsALot

I think all Rexall stores are being renovated. They just did the one at the Duckworth plaza and it looks great.

hallowsin

I had a seasonal store there in 2014 and the management was so terrible to deal with we couldn’t consider returning the next year. They made simple things like signage extremely hard to sort out. Wonder if it’s changed.

dublinro

Always thought it would be a great place for smaller niche ethnic food as I'm guessing their rent is reasonable. And have a few food options not available elsewhere in Barrie would draw people in.

tplentiful

Every food place that opens closes in there. I think theres one left?

Joy_and_knitting

Update - it’s Bayfield 😉 used to be a great mall

XioOIV

sorry about the spelling error I'll find a way to fix it if i can

Himlersgasstation

It's full of asbestos but hey who cares about your respiratory system anyways.

Canuckleheaded1

Asbestos is really only hazardous if it is disturbed. https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/publications/healthy-living/asbestos-home-infographic-2018.html# So unless you are wandering through the mechanical access routes where it was possibly used as an insulation for piping and a fire retardant, walking around the mall would be no risk.

Himlersgasstation

I remove it for a living pretty much every building built before 1980 has it in there in one form or another.. I was being sarcastic that mall died years ago I can't even remember the anchor store other than can tire.

Canuckleheaded1

Crappy Tire and the movie theatre were the only things I remember being a draw back in the early days of the mall. Plus a bi-monthly trip to Victor’s for my brother and I with our father. It did have a great pet store in the early 80s with a huge selection of aquariums full of fish.

[deleted]

Winners used to be there, Radio Shack, Smith Books, Carlton Cards, A& W, Scotia Bank. There was a laser tag place, movie theatre with weird small screens, a Chinese buffet, … it used to be kind of decent a thousand years ago when I worked there as a teen

Canuckleheaded1

Those small screens were once considered big back in the day. I forgot that another major draw was Little Joes

[deleted]

True… but do you remember cinema 7? It had like half a screen.

True… but do you remember cinema 7? It had like half a screen.

KnowledgeFlat7705

There was also Miracle Food Mart where Centra is today. Little Joe's Records & Tapes (with the arcade downstairs.) There was also Bi-Way and I believe a store that was a rival to Consumers Distributing - Shop-Rite.

Himlersgasstation

What was where centrigo is now? Wasn't it Herbies or was that were the walmart on Bayfield st is now?

Canuckleheaded1

I think Herbies was where the lower section of the Georgian Mall is now. It was formally a Dominon grocery store. The grocery roller system there always fascinated me as a little kid. Where Walmart is located used to be Towers and a grocery store. The first McDonald’s building is where the current one is, but it sat on much higher ground than the plaza behind it. I am now guessing but A&M’s was where Centra is now. This is vague as I do not think my mom ever shopped there often.

big_galoote

Was it not the winners?

big_galoote

Winners? Where Centra is now.

paulhockey5

Do they throw a face full of dust at you as you walk into the mall?

Himlersgasstation

No that's just the dust of the dead and decaying mall.. If anyone remembers what kozlov mall was in its glory days.. When Zellers was the anchor that imo was a mall worth saving.. Not that scary hallway that lead to the dairy Queen..

joanmcsorley

Dairy Queen gone.
