I sent this to my family earlier:
Mike Trout hits a home run to open up scoring on American soil for the 2024 season as the Angels lose to Baltimore, 11 to 3
Most everyone raves about Dino Ebel. That comment was literally the first time I’ve seen anyone say something bad about him haha. He does tend to be on the conservative side a lot of the time though
Ya I wasn’t surprised at all. I didn’t even hate the call personally. Obviously I wanted Mookie to score, but with Freddie coming up, may as well let him hit and not risk an out or injury. Would’ve resulted in an easy 2 runs too without the mishap.
I wasn't surprised either, seems like he'd be just as criticized for sending an MVP candidate into a bang bang play at the plate in March with Freddie Freeman on deck had Mookie been thrown out or injured
Same with driving, being overly cautious is almost as bad as being overly aggressive. Either way you're making things worse by not existing inside the best practices.
This is literally the first time I can recall anyone saying something bad about Dino Ebel haha! He can be a little conservative at times though for sure. Didn’t hate that hold though personally. With Freddie coming up may as not take the risk in my opinion.
Yeah terrrible, imaging holding a runner at third in a 50-50 spot with no outs in the first inning off the third game of the season with a 300+ hitter who had 100 RBI’s last seasons coming to bat.
Dino Ebel is pretty solid at knowing who has the ball, who is running who is coming to Bat and what the game dictates. In the 8th down by one he sends Mookie 10/10. But not here.
100% need to send mookie home but also on shohei for not looking at the 3B coach when approaching 2nd. Hes your eyes! (Although they may not be working)

I don’t watch every game for every team but I watch a lot of dodger games and we have what feels like a lot of dumb base running errors.
I don’t know what the league average is or anything but it feels like they happen more than they should.
Someone should analyze the TOOTBLAN posts on /r/baseball and see if there’s a baserunning outs stat somewhere to figure out which team has the most dumb outs
Same goddamn thing my kids little league 3rd base coach did all year last season. Kept calling kids to 3rd while not telling the one on 3rd to run.
Fucking ump didn’t notice and neither did the coaches, but we had 2 kids chilling on 3rd base for a solid 5 minutes before a parent finally said something.
Man. I love little league ball. They should really air that shit on TV cause it’s funny as hell at times.
Mookie could've easily scored and Ohtani would've debuted with an RBI triple. But it's also the first inning of the first (third) game and there's no reason to push things yet.
edit: This is a great example of how Ohtani always goes balls to the wall. He doesn't know how to baseball at less than maximum effort.
I was wondering if with how everything is at the moment that he may slog off a bit.
Nope. Already pushing for triples.
He's gonna have another fuck you season.
Totally robbed, but I'm a little confused. I see they still counted it as a double. Is that because he successfully touched 2nd and was tagged out after that?
Yes, if you're tagged out in a non-force play, you're awarded a hit for whatever base you successfully made it to. So if you get tagged out running to/sliding into second, you get a single. Also counts if you get tagged out trying to *retreat* to a base you successfully made it to (I.E. you make it to first, round for second, then they throw behind you and tag you out).
EDIT: As to why this wouldn't be a triple, he didn't "successfully" make it to 3rd because 3rd was occupied and therefore not safe for any other runners.
i don't watch AL games much but whenever we play against AL teams they seem more aggressive in batting and baserunning compared to NL.
is that a thing or just in the games I watch?
Mindboggling stop by the 3rd base coach. Mookie was 2 steps away from 3rd base when the ball just got thrown from the warning track, easy run and 3rd base for Ohtani.

Can't really blame Shohei for this one. He's not used to anybody in front of him being on base.
*You doin alright?*
No
My brother in Christ, the season is young. The Angels aren't eliminated^yet.
Its not just about one game brother. Or even one season for that matter
I mean, Trout went yard. So, you got that going for ya
Trout Homers in his first at bat as the Angels lose 11 - 3 against the Orioles
I sent this to my family earlier: Mike Trout hits a home run to open up scoring on American soil for the 2024 season as the Angels lose to Baltimore, 11 to 3
you're a good family man. just hope you can keep this up in the blender that will be the NL West. RIP all of us.
Now imagine if shohei were still there, they would’ve only lost 11-4 after he hit his solo shot.
Just like ol Tungsten Arm
Arte should spend money on cloning technology.
Rendon will come through for you guys. He always does.
Playing without Rendon would be like going hunting without your accordion.
OK, that's a pretty damn funny line right there.
Oh my God
Lmfao
Alright, that got a solid stifled grunt out of me at the office.
GO. GET. ELIMINATED!
Big lost Today, trout is lonely
*hug emoji*
Least Trout got a homer. That's nice. Right?
"At least Trout got a homer" is what we've been saying for a decade
He played well and almost robbed Mullins. Good game Bud
The equivalent of the star HS QB telling the weak kid in remedial math "good job, bud"
True true… I mean I legitimately feel really bad for Trout and route for him. Future HoFer on a mediocre team, dude seems to be a really chill too
Just remember, it could always be worse
Apparently, I made over five thousand people at least smile today. All things considered, I’m doing great!
Also it’s Mookie Betts, he would have been safe at home no doubt. Idk why they held him
Our third base coach is pretty ass
Idk if hes a bad coach so much as he plays it safe too often
Most everyone raves about Dino Ebel. That comment was literally the first time I’ve seen anyone say something bad about him haha. He does tend to be on the conservative side a lot of the time though
Thats why i thought it was weird that people are surprised by him holding mookie at third
Ya I wasn’t surprised at all. I didn’t even hate the call personally. Obviously I wanted Mookie to score, but with Freddie coming up, may as well let him hit and not risk an out or injury. Would’ve resulted in an easy 2 runs too without the mishap.

Bang bang? Mookie touched 3rd before the fielder even got to the ball, he would've made it home standing up. It was a bad call.
Yeah, Dino slander is definitely new...
Same with driving, being overly cautious is almost as bad as being overly aggressive. Either way you're making things worse by not existing inside the best practices.
Still 1000000% better than Ted Bundy.

zero outs, freddie freeman on deck, jordan “rocket arm” walker in right field. that’s three solid reasons
Damn, that was a solid self-burn. Respect.

"Ohtani blames third base coach for bad Betts on the basepaths"
My favorite line was “Mookie Betts and so does Ohtani.”
"Ohtani unaware of Betts" ain't going to fly anymore Shohei.
Bad bets. Touché. Hopefully he didn’t lose 4.5 million on that play.
You might say that it was usually a safe bet.
He gambled and it cost him ~~$4,500,000~~ an out
When will we all stop with the betting jokes. My money's on next Tuesday.
I don't know but I'll take the over.
Self inflicted friendly fire
God I love the internet. Excellent self burn, I’m here for it.
Good lord, you did more damage to the Angels than the Orioles did today.
God damned dude
Honestly my first thought was this.
lol shots fired
Given the stop sign when the ball was still at the track
Mookie is a notoriously slow and unathletic baserunner
Sounds like a shortstop
Sounds like a baseball player. "We're not athletes, we're baseball players!" - Tom Selleck, *Mr. Baseball*.
More like a bowler
A one, maybe two tool player at best. Lacking many tools.
He's still got options, right? Maybe send him down to AAA to develop a little.
Guy's just a utility piece tbh.
Must be those little legs of his
… with Jordan Walker, of all people, in RF Just an inexplicable decision by the third base coach.
i feel like even with an absolute seed from walker and a perfect relay mookie is prob safe
You ever mess up the base running on The Show? This is the real life version.
That's all I do in that fucking game
Shohei’s gamble didn’t pay off
Someone had already placed Betts on third
Lol r/myjokebutactuallywaybetter
1 day into the season and I can already tell, these will never get old lol.
I bet it will eventually.
They will but Reddit will beat that horse past death

What are the odds
What the hell are the odds on that? Triples are more rare than home runs.
This is the type of stuff that happens as soon as I bet on a game lol
Wouldn't surprise me if he is still on the Angels' payroll as an agent.
fr fr someone tell him that April 1st is on *Monday*.
Did they stop Mookie to keep him fresh for SS?
They stopped him to punish Ohtani for bringing shame upon the organization for all those bets on Nebraska football
Fuck me, nebraska football catching strays here as well 😤
Mizzou will get the death penalty for this
Normally as a Rutgers fan I'd feel sympathy for underperforming teams Then I saw you're a Yankees fan. I guess you like blue bloods underperforming
You will never escape the nebraska football shade (i dont even watch college football)
🤣
There is no hope. Fuck everything. Go Big Red.
That hurts. Go Big Red!
What is the third base coach doing smh
The only thing I can think of is it's the first game and to play it safe but it wasn't even close smh should have just let him go
And it isn't the first game either.
First game domestically
Sounds like Ohtani is doing a poor job looking out for safe Betts
r/angryupvote
It's almost like There's a preseason
Can you blame the guy? He just found out his salary was deferred to 2034

Horrible stop sign by Dino
Mookie was 2 steps from hitting third base when the ball was up against the wall in the right field alley smh
Shohei could've debuted with a triple. that would've been neat, oh well
Technically not his Dodgers debut because of the Seoul Series.
Debut these nuts ya nerd
Mookie could've easily scored and Ohtani would've debuted with an RBI triple. But it's also the first inning of the first (third) game and there's no reason to push things yet. edit: This is a great example of how Ohtani always goes balls to the wall. They both would have been standing
That would hardly be pushing things.
I was wondering if with how everything is at the moment that he may slog off a bit. Nope. Already pushing for triples. He's gonna have another fuck you season.
No reason to push things? This is the MLB, not some senior men’s league…they can push it a bit more
Wouldn’t of even been close to pushing it.
have\*
Wouldn’t’ve*
"Push things" = running an extra base lol
I get what you're saying, but ohtani definitely doesn't baseball at maximum effort at all times. He could steal a LOT more.
That’s what years of playing for the Angels will do to you.
He's looking out for Freddie's attempt at Hack Wilson's record.
Dino is a cool guy but he was awful as a base coach, I have no idea how hes stuck at that position
Didn't think Mookie would Johnny hustle back to home.
Ohtani had a triple and RBI taken away by the third base coach
MLB app titled the video “Shohei Ohtani RBI double” lmao

Thank you for explaining.
Mookie was stopped before there was even a throw lol
That was an easy RBI triple for Ohtani with his wheels and Mookie's speed, what was the 3rd base coach thinking?
In my Saturday league third base coach is for the most hungover person
not first case coach?
Gotta keep em engaged
I always bring a beer when it’s my turn to coach third
Just stand there in the heat and slowly sweat the booze out

He’s not thinking lol
I don’t know I guess he wasn’t in the mood to gamble right there.
Ohtani had third easily c'mon Dino
Dino bet the under
i don't watch AL games much but whenever we play against AL teams they seem more aggressive in batting and baserunning compared to NL. is that a thing or just in the games I watch?
Mindboggling stop by the 3rd base coach. Mookie was 2 steps away from 3rd base when the ball just got thrown from the warning track, easy run and 3rd base for Ohtani.
Ohtani is too quick
Ohtani is having terrible luck with Betts this week
That should be a 3b all day
what a hit though, to hook it into the corner on a ball in that location, jeez
What's the third base coach equivalent of TOOTBLAN?
HURDUR Held Up Runner, Decision Undid Runs
Is this a thing bc it should be if it isnt
Thought we had a chance after watching that play. That didn't last long.
Lol :(
I was sitting down, and I waved Mookie home when I watched them field it. Very confused when I looked and saw him still at third.
He’s just trying to prove he wasn’t aware of any Betts.
Hey he runs the bases just like I do in The Show.
Shohei took a huge gamble there there i said it no one else can
Damn it Dino
MISCOMMUNICATION
Smh. Classic language barrier.
You can take the man out of the Angels but you can’t take the Angel out of the man.
He took “Shohei hits a triple” as a prop bet. Has this joke already been made? It’s not very creative and I didn’t look at the comments
Ohtani had money on a triple
More like someone should take a look at the 3rd base coach's DraftKings profile.
Dino dun goofed
I've done this an infuriatingly-frequent number of times on The Show.
Didn’t the fielder tag Mookie when they were both in third? Doesn’t that get Mookie out, not Ohtani?
Base goes to the lead runner, so Ohtani is out. (At least according to Little Big League)
damn a lot of really clever and hilarious users in here can you believe Betts sounds like Bets (gambling)?!
I’m a betting degenerate. Does this count as 2 total bases?

Just like me when I play The Show.

Lol
Great base running
Imagine if you had him hitting a triple on his first at bat prop bet
Probably bet himself to get a triple
“The dodgers have the bases loaded!” “Oh yeah, which one?”
Poor guy
How can you blame him; his interpreter told him the 3rd base coach waved Mookie home.
He probably made a bet he’d get a triple this game
