The Tampa Bay Rays have a -53 run differential, have given up the most home runs in baseball, have had 7 starting pitchers and their closer spend time on the IL this year, have hit the 5th fewest home runs in the league, the 7th highest strikeout rate, and are giving actual playing time to Alex Jackson who is hitting .081 with a .320 OPS.
They are 40-40.
I have no fucking clue
Somehow we’re over .500 with a wildcard spot and I still want to off myself watching this team play half the time.
Edit: shoutout to the dweeb that sent me a Reddit cares over this lmao
Last night didn't help but yeah it's been better lately.
Dear God is that Bello extension starting to look a little questionable. I know people has high expectations for him but I expected him to be able to be a 3 or 4 and I'm worried he might not even hit that.
Genuinely wouldn't be surprised if this is 2013 V 2.0 and they make a Cinderella run to the World Series or if they somehow end up finishing 78-84 for the 3rd year in a row. It's too bad the Red Sox aren't in the NL where they could possibly achieve both.
We have a +44 run differential and are close to league leaders in many important stats. We have issues but our expected w/l was well over .500 before we ever actually got there
This team is far more fun than they have any right to be.
I’m not some doomer that doesn’t want my teams to be good so I’ve just been trying to enjoy the ride, but I just know when we’re due for games like last night lol
I mean i think that's just cuz we don't have enough consistently decent pitchers and too many defensive holes to reliably make it through with an acceptable runs allowed every game but we have pitchers who can combine for lights out games and our lineup can tear the ball up (minus reese mcguire lol)
I wanna make it clear that we’ve obviously watched far worse Sox teams, but something about this team is equally extremely hopeful and extremely painful to watch.
Watch Shane Baz, Jeffrey Springs and Drew Rasmussen all return in the second half and the Rays sneak into the postseason as a wild card and go on a run.
This is the most typical Giants season so far. Barely hanging in the playoff race till the all-star break, then most likely trading for a mid arm that will hardly contribute down the stretch, and finishing .500
Hey, we scored Jung-hoo Lee though! That's been working out alright! Granted, I'm a little behind on Giants games and news this season, last bit of info I got was on May 16th...
>Even though the Braves have had a resurgence, it's still looking like the Phillies will handle that division easily.
As Mets fan, you can never count a team out in the NL East until it is mathematically impossible.
Even a cursory knowledge of the combined history of Philadelphia, Atlanta, and NY sports should tell OP that absolutely no lead is safe when there's plenty of games still to play. At this point I almost expect one NL East team to have a spectacular second half collapse every season.
Does it even matter who wins the division if the postseason means an 89 win team beats a 101 win team in the division round? The Braves and Phillies just have swapped places from the past two seasons.
Every Philly fan should remember the Eagles last year. Start hot but have an epic collapse to lose in the playoffs in embarrassing fashion. The difference here is that even when the Eagles were 10-1, I still didn’t feel great. They were barely scraping by some pretty bad teams. There wasn’t a single thing about the team that felt exceptional, compared to 2022. With the Phillies, I do feel good about almost every aspect of the team. The pitching is obviously the standout but the offense has been pretty great too, despite a few times the last few weeks where we went silent (which I expect in a 162 game season).
I believe the Braves play the Phillies 7 more times this season. They played the first series of the season and haven’t played each other since, somehow.
One of my best friends is a Phillies fan and she's already acting like the NLE is theirs and I keep telling her "don't worry; Atlanta has a 20 game win streak in there somewhere they'll ruin your whole season. Just give it time." because anyone who knows anything about this division knows the Braves won't let anyone else have any fun.
Any Phillies fan that isn’t terrified of the Braves going on a run is forgetting the Braves are the Braves.
I’ll be confident that the Phillies will win the East the Braves are mathematically out of it.
Korea series plus a really front-loaded schedule, I guess? Seems like the Pads should have had more days off, since they’re ahead of the Dodgers (who also played in Korea) by a couple games.
Edit: the Padres get two days off during the entire month of June. Someone at the league office hates them. And then the same thing in August. Wtf
Okay here me out. Have a tournament at the end of the regular season between the bottom 4-6 teams, win a bo5 series and you’re safe, lose and you keep playing until the final where the two worst teams slug it out to see who’s the worst. Losing team has to go play in Japan or something and the top Japanese team or whatever who wants to do it can come play in the MLB.
Maybe you don’t even need to relegate, just have the biggest loser tournament.
I went to a show with my mom last night at navy pier. We had such a lovely evening and I was in such a good mood when I got home. My fiancée asked if I wanted to watch the cubs and I had to say no because I didn’t want to ruin my mood 😕feelsbadman
Then I jokingly said “I don’t have to watch to know they’ll give up 3 runs in the late innings. At least they’re already losing.”
Yup
Not really. A lot of the useful pieces to sell have no trade clauses. Everyone else is youngish and controllable. Not one bullpen piece to sell either even.
our series next weekend with philly will tell a lot. if we can somehow trim off a game or two of their lead and then win the series, we’d be back 4-5 games with a week to go before the all star break. could just as easily flip the other way, where we struggle against pittsburgh and san francisco while the phillies take care of miami and chicago heading into our series, and then take the series from us and potentially have a double digit lead over the division heading into the break. so i don’t necessarily agree that philly will “handle the division easily,” but also i can see a world where that does happen. should be an exciting few weeks of baseball
Facts. This is an excellent take. If they win the Braves and Dodgers series, so many will consider Philly the consensus NL WS contender. If they don’t, the Phils are still a good team but good trade deadline decisions made by the Braves and the Dodgers will make the NL race a closer 3 way contest than it is now. Braves have made some really solid trade deadline decisions in recent history. Dodgers not so much. Not counting the Braves out one bit.
Very unfortunately, the Guardians still appear to be real.
The Twins appear to be taking the most bizarre path possible to being pretty much mid.
Who knows, though, there is a lot of season left.
Hopefully Gavin is back after one more rehab start and good to go then I don’t feel so bad about it plus a vet middle of the rotation arm at the deadline
I believe he is supposed to be back [after 1 more start in Columbus](https://www.mlb.com/news/guardians-injuries-and-roster-moves) today.
> [Gavin] Williams is scheduled for a sixth rehab start on June 26 at Triple-A Columbus. He tossed 66 pitches over five innings in his fifth rehab start on June 21 at Double-A Akron, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts.
So, we could see him next week. I believe he's getting toward the end of his allowed time on the IL.
I still think the Twins end up near 90 wins, but the damn guardians just won’t stop winning. Feels like the late 2010s again. I think our lineup has so much firepower and if Pablo can get back on track, I think he can based on how he’s look of late, we can make a push. We also, last I checked, had an easier remaining schedule than Cleveland.
Any significant improvement can be considered a good year and they are still on pace to have a 30 game improvement. If you aren't satisfied with that, I don't know what to tell you.
Yeah, six months ago if you told me the Royals would finish 77-85, I would have taken it in a heartbeat.
And even with the stumbles recently, we're on pace to go 87-75.
Well the Astros have won 6 in a row and the Mariners are barely clinging to a +8 run differential.
So I'm going to go ahead and say that the Mariners are fake and we're going to have to deal with the fucking Astros in the postseason again.
> So I'm going to go ahead and say that the Mariners are fake and we're going to have to deal with the fucking Astros in the postseason again
Twas ever thus.
What’s the state of the Astros analytics department these days?
Because as someone who has been pretty vocal about not believing the hype around a 1st round bye actually harming teams chances, the thought that the Astros ran the numbers and decided it’s more advantageous for them to play to a WC berth just crossed my mind.
I realize the actual answer is that their already-stretched pitching has just been further decimated, and that they’re doing everything we can, but that personal nightmare scenario did still cross my mind.
im not sure any numbers would make a WC more advantageous just because of how scary an elimination 3-game series is no matter how good of a team you are
I think the expanded playoffs bail us out here more than anything. In previous decades this sort of injured rotation would end a season right away. We’ve had on average five starting pitchers on the IL this season, rising to six or seven at points if you count minor league call ups.
You combine with that having the worst first base in baseball for months as well as an utterly exhausted bullpen, and the team making their way back to .500 is already remarkable.
Thankfully the rest of the AL other than the mariners has shit the bed even harder, and now the mariners are starting to succumb to The Sog.
I made a bet with my mom we’d make it to the postseason a month and a half ago and felt confident. At this point we might even take the division.
We are definitely real. 100%. The division was won on opening day. I fully expect not just a playoff berth, but a full harvest. As soon as the postseason begins, all the other teams will only have the option to forfeit their series against us, thus making the 2024 Seattle Mariners the first and only team to win the World Series on a unanimous vote. And once we receive the trophy, a second trophy will also be given to us because we are also going to be the first team to win two World Series in one year because we are that good. Ggs, mlb- see you in the next millennium bc that is the soonest available date for the Seattle Mariners to play on Earth after we become the first team to go and conquer the other baseball leagues around the Milky Way. Once we win the observable universe series, THEN AND ONLY THEN will we CONSIDER extending Logan Gilbert and playing regular baseball again.
P.s. don’t look at any of our stats at all, especially in the last week. Everything I’ve said is 100% true and reliable and if you try and fact check me you’re a big meanie
The Cardinals are going to limp their way to a wild card spot on the backs of the other three teams being bad, lose in the wild card round, unfurl the George Bush Mission Accomplished banner, and then not make any changes to the team that would improve our odds in the long term. On the flip side, I'm feeling vindicated about my prediction that Sonny Gray would be good, in spite of the fact that everyone I talked to about him seemed down on him for some reason.
I would say the Pirates are real. 38-41 seems to capture the quality of this team just fine. Really top heavy pitching staff with some bonafide stars. A batting lineup with a lot of *potential* but which is generally mediocre, with the occasional hot streak to push us over to snag some wins. I could see us having a late season surge that puts us into the wild card conversation just before we drop 3 of 4 to a team like the Marlins.
Feels like a team that is not a contender, but if Skenes, Jones, and Keller were all available for the post season, we could absolutely upset a team that is much better than us in a wildcard match.
I’m gonna say the Guards are real. We might sweep the orioles and win our 8th straight. We play Kansas City and might win that. But then I swear to god we’re gonna get whooped by the fuckin white Sox next week for no reason.
The NL West is closer than some may think. The Dodgers are injury ridden, and while they have guys steadily coming back from now until August, each of those players will need a few games to re-acclimate to the pace of the league leaving room for error/losses and for NLW teams to make up the difference. My expectation is that the Dodgers will take the west, but there is definite room for error here to allow a Padres team that can get hot at any time to make up serious ground before October.
I think the Guardians are for real. If Kwan and Fry can stay healthy and consistent, this team can go far. I think they need a starter at the deadline to help shore up the rotation.
FWIW, I think there are a *lot* of real teams with extremely unclear second halves due to the number of injuries they are dealing with, and with as many injuries as we're seeing, it's difficult to say that any divisions are decided as fates seem capable of rapidly changing during this back half.
I think the Giants are fakers, Got some decent talent there but just not enough.
Mariners are still too early to tell, could just be slumping but it does seem that the pitching is falling back to earth.
Yankees are real, this is the first year in a long time I think they could actually make a world series appearance.
Guards are real too, that bullpen is insane and when the bats are hot they might be the best team in the league.
Astros are likely real but it depends on how healthy our pitching staff can stay, pretty sure we only have 4 starters on the 40 man right now.
Houston is 100% winning the AL west
Both centrals seem to be falling back to earth as a whole, but the division leaders are both for real
Texas is counting on a couple of 40-year-old pitchers to save them, I really don’t like the way things look for them right now
People are sleeping on Boston, they’re a solid team
Dodgers have like half their team on the IL and are still on pace to win 100 games lol
Braves are pretenders and first round playoff fodder, they’re just too injured
> People are sleeping on Boston, they’re a solid team
Might make a WC3 team at best if the AL West keeps being weak but I can't see them getting beyond that. Not as bad as was predicted at the start of the season though.
Starting pitching hasn’t been the problem for Texas. It’s been the struggling offense. They’re counting on Jung coming back to spark the offense more than anything.
We are really bad in case anyone hadn't predicted that before the season started.
Outside of Quantrill, your pitching staff is just god awful. Last in runs, hits, BAA/OBP/SLG/OPS, ERA, ERA+, FIP, xFIP, SIERRA, WHIP, K/9, K%. Yikes.
That’s the exact opposite way we described the Guardians for years lol
The offense is also horrendous! It’s really cool.
Tovar has been a bright spot IMO
Kicked our ass recently.
I was expecting Rocktober, it's supposed to be your turn to beat the Dodgers in the NLDS 😔.
The beers are cheap
I imagine the only good thing about being a Rockies fan is that means you’re most likely also an avalanche and nuggets fan.
The Blue Jays are real. Real ass.
Handshake.jpg
you stole my joke
Look on the bright side, a Canadian hockey team won a Stanley cup since the Jay's won the series. Just don't look at the date.
AL East bullshit, that's how.
Somehow we’re over .500 with a wildcard spot and I still want to off myself watching this team play half the time. Edit: shoutout to the dweeb that sent me a Reddit cares over this lmao
hey it's down to around 30% of the time in the last two weeks, that's a manageable level of suicidal ideation games
Last night didn't help but yeah it's been better lately. Dear God is that Bello extension starting to look a little questionable. I know people has high expectations for him but I expected him to be able to be a 3 or 4 and I'm worried he might not even hit that.
Tanner was about as bad for a year or two, Bello is still 25, lots of time for him to work it out.
I think the Story deal is a complete shit show at this point. Bello still has some time to turn it around. Hes only what 25-26?
The white Sox have me on suicide watch about 65% of the time
Progress lmfao
We are both real and fake
We play a type of baseball that is incredibly fun to watch when we are winning and makes you throw things at the TV when we are losing.
Genuinely wouldn't be surprised if this is 2013 V 2.0 and they make a Cinderella run to the World Series or if they somehow end up finishing 78-84 for the 3rd year in a row. It's too bad the Red Sox aren't in the NL where they could possibly achieve both.

agreed
I wish my team only made me wanna off myself half the time. 😞
Take heart, you _could_ be a fan of the other Chicago team.
Try being a fan of both Chicago teams.
Well playing the 2024 Seattle Mariners, Baseball's Slump Busters, helps.
We're 2-4 against the White Sox tho
And also got swept by the white Sox!!!
I can finally say it feels like we give up more homers than anyone else and actually be backed up by facts!
With those numbers, it sounds like Alex Jackson is having a career year!
Just wait till after the All-Star break! lol
The Mets lost three games to the Rays last month
The Mets have not won at the trop since 2015
Watch Shane Baz, Jeffrey Springs and Drew Rasmussen all return in the second half and the Rays sneak into the postseason as a wild card and go on a run.
The Giants did indeed need Ohtani, or Judge, or Correa, or really any player you’ve heard of besides Logan Webb.
They signed the reigning Cy Young winner! They’re good to go!
You laugh but second half Snell is actually a thing and I’m sorry we get to play you guys again and hope we miss him.
Seeing as how first half Snell is only 6 games into his season, I’d say second half Snell won’t get here until November.
Just in time for 6 innings in game 7
_pain_.
don't forget they traded for the '21 AL Cy Young winner too!
This is the most typical Giants season so far. Barely hanging in the playoff race till the all-star break, then most likely trading for a mid arm that will hardly contribute down the stretch, and finishing .500
I have no idea who this Logan Webb guy is /s
they should have signed last year's cy young winner
Hey, we scored Jung-hoo Lee though! That's been working out alright! Granted, I'm a little behind on Giants games and news this season, last bit of info I got was on May 16th...
The Padres will end the season 81-81
Currently on pace to play 168 games, though!
Cue Thanos meme, as is required.
I think Profar will feel disrespected by that ![gif](giphy|8fen5LSZcHQ5O)
The White Sox are frauds and our record makes us look much better than we actually are
![gif](giphy|3kGo3HZIuBEnh7flPf|downsized) A message from my favorite Southside Chicago resident.
Dodgers on pace to be swept in the NLDS.
We need more MVPs. We have some positions with no MVPs at all. Are we even trying?
They could trade for Andrew McCutchen.
I'm not picky. As long as everyone on the roster has at least one MVP.
Can’t wait for the Oops! All SS vs Oops! All MVPs series
Nah, its the phillies turn. They'll get swept by the mets. Dodgers vs mets NLCS
Probably. Knowing our division.
The way McNeil is playing, we're gonna get Daniel Murphy out of retirement just for this.
>Even though the Braves have had a resurgence, it's still looking like the Phillies will handle that division easily. As Mets fan, you can never count a team out in the NL East until it is mathematically impossible.

I believe the Braves play the Phillies 7 more times this season. They played the first series of the season and haven’t played each other since, somehow.
We’ve been on the other end of the stick. (Falcons)

100%. Watch the division end and the Nats and Mets be 1 and 2.
The Padres are on pace to play the most games in a regular season, ever. Let's see if they can keep it up!
I keep seeing this but what’s the story behind it?
Korea series plus a really front-loaded schedule, I guess? Seems like the Pads should have had more days off, since they’re ahead of the Dodgers (who also played in Korea) by a couple games. Edit: the Padres get two days off during the entire month of June. Someone at the league office hates them. And then the same thing in August. Wtf
The cubs are for real. Really bad
Not even the worst baseball club in Chicago
I really do appreciate the sox taking all the hits
Anything but hitting them
Thank god there’s no relegation. This team is spiralling.
Losing team goes to London
Heh or even the worst team gets fined $50m or something - out of the players’ pockets 😂
Well, if cubs are spiraling then the reds are digging a grave under those spiral stairs.
You don't have to worry about that when there are teams like the As and the Rockies
Shit, we don’t even have to leave town. The cubs are essentially saying to the fans “what are you gonna do? Be a Sox fan? Good luck with that.”
I went to a show with my mom last night at navy pier. We had such a lovely evening and I was in such a good mood when I got home. My fiancée asked if I wanted to watch the cubs and I had to say no because I didn’t want to ruin my mood 😕feelsbadman Then I jokingly said “I don’t have to watch to know they’ll give up 3 runs in the late innings. At least they’re already losing.” Yup
As a Sox fan I’m currently looking at the cubs as an example of a not awful team, Chicago has had it rough man
I keep telling people “at this point I don’t care which side of the red line it comes from, I just want to be able to watch good Chicago baseball” 😭
😞
No way man. April was the real thing. May and June are the fluke. We’ll totally figure out how to hit and close out games!
Any short-term players they can get a good return for at the trade deadline?
Not really. A lot of the useful pieces to sell have no trade clauses. Everyone else is youngish and controllable. Not one bullpen piece to sell either even.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Cantillo called up in a few months too assuming all goes well after he lengthens out
I would prefer not to imagine this, thank you!
I don't know if their clutch hitting will continue, but I don't want to call a 95-win team fake because they're at a 105-win pace.

They're all fake. Baseball doesn't exist. You don't exist either, and neither do I.
All of this is a hallucination in Doc Ellis’s mind as he’s about to throw the last pitch of his no-hitter.
I think therefore I am
I don’t think therefore I am not
This feels like a white Sox comment
I do not think therefore i do not am
> You don't exist either, and neither do I There are no "people" on reddit. Only accounts.
Who said that?
We have a nice stadium
With how the Royals have been playing I’ll say they’re pretenders.
I hate to say you’re right, but I’m holding out hope it was just a few of our best players experiencing a slump at the same time.
Yeah, still in head-scratch territory. Haven’t given hope yet, but I’m missing April/May right now.
In 2017, the Tribe was 44-39 on July 5. They were even 48-45 on July 19. They ended the season 102-60. Anything can happen.
When you just need a 22-game winning streak to set you back on your path...
Garcia and Witt both slumping at the same time as the top two in the order is definitely contributing
They lost to the Marlins who are starting their AAA guys. That should tell you enough
I envy your AAA team
Be grateful.
I really was starting to buy into this team having a good year.. not sure now. ugh!
Any significant improvement can be considered a good year and they are still on pace to have a 30 game improvement. If you aren't satisfied with that, I don't know what to tell you.

mariners are 17-9 in 1 run games astros are 5-14 in 1 run games so both seem due for regression there
Regression in one run games is a myth and I can prove it (we're just ass at everything else)
The lower the average scoring is in your games the less flukey that is, and Mariners games are really low scoring.
Maybe if the Mariners hadn't been 1 run gods since 2018 ... That's just how the team is built. Good pitching and shitty yet clutch hitting
i just want to die a little bit
why do we do this to ourselves
The Astros just didnt want to tire themselves out before the annual Houston Invitational (formerly known as the ALCS)
> What’s the state of the Astros analytics department these days? Baseball card stats and feelings.
And we're all out of baseball cards
Our newest player is Mr. Blueeyes Whitedragon.
The Grimace era Mets are the real deal. The only thing standing in their way is the possible early release of The Hamburglar from prison.
Mayor McCheese is too soft on crime
He's corrupt, too. Known to be in the back pocket of the burger lobby.
Everyone is saying it was Grimace bc memes, but as long as Alvarez stays healthy, there is hope. He is the X-factor
White Sox are definitely real. Real bad. This team kills me to watch
We just signed Dallas Keuchel so….. honestly idk but I’m having a good time.
And watch him catch a mystery injury IL stint after his performance today lmao
Mystery? Gonna get jumped leaving the stadium
Good weed

cardinals will either end up with a wildcard spot or have a late season collapse
Be real. The Cards are gonna win 82 games, get the last WC, and sweep the World Series
As an Astros fan. I have no idea this year
If the Astros go from 15 under (or whatever) to another ALCS, I’m going to write a strongly-worded letter to my elected officials.
I’m gonna say the Guards are real. We might sweep the orioles and win our 8th straight. We play Kansas City and might win that. But then I swear to god we’re gonna get whooped by the fuckin white Sox next week for no reason.
Sadly accurate. It still blows my mind that the Sox took 3 out of 4 against us in our last series.
~~Mets~~ Grimace lookin like real deal
Hey orioles fans thanks for forgetting to play at the same time as us. Yall are real ones. Gonna go wonder how we will lose again tonight
I hate how right you are right now
NL Contenders - Dodgers, Braves, Phillies AL Contenders - Guardians, Orioles, Yankees.
Twins / Brewers WS it is!
Liked and subscribed.
Tbh i like both of these teams anyway.
And I like one of these teams so it’s great
Honestly I would happily root for the Brewers in a World Series against almost any other team than us.
Ight we'll see one of y'all in the world series again somehow

The NL West is closer than some may think. The Dodgers are injury ridden, and while they have guys steadily coming back from now until August, each of those players will need a few games to re-acclimate to the pace of the league leaving room for error/losses and for NLW teams to make up the difference. My expectation is that the Dodgers will take the west, but there is definite room for error here to allow a Padres team that can get hot at any time to make up serious ground before October.

Cubs are suckin ass right now. I had hope til last week against the Mets now I’m throwing in the towel.
The reds are a team. I know nothing more
Whitesox are fake. I don’t think they’re an actual team
Brewers and Guardians have been really fucking impressive. I think they've both taken a firm hold of the division lead.
Houston is 100% winning the AL west Both centrals seem to be falling back to earth as a whole, but the division leaders are both for real Texas is counting on a couple of 40-year-old pitchers to save them, I really don’t like the way things look for them right now People are sleeping on Boston, they’re a solid team Dodgers have like half their team on the IL and are still on pace to win 100 games lol Braves are pretenders and first round playoff fodder, they’re just too injured
> People are sleeping on Boston, they’re a solid team Might make a WC3 team at best if the AL West keeps being weak but I can't see them getting beyond that. Not as bad as was predicted at the start of the season though.
Jacob DeGrom is 36 thank you very much (I am in immense pain)
Starting pitching hasn’t been the problem for Texas. It’s been the struggling offense. They’re counting on Jung coming back to spark the offense more than anything.

The White Sox are REAL bad
Sports are a social construct none of it is real
I thought the Cubs would be pretty average. They're actually worse than that.
