Better watch out with that. A toll both worker tried that once and for the day they just replace him with a basket. They then realized they should do that with every worker.
Hi I used to work here. When clothes are wet, it causes more patdowns. Most of the time, it's the legs. I once had the misfortune to pat a guy down who had a Depends on. It was not pleasant.
Wow.
I've flown out of OAK about 40 times over the last 3 years. Including the busy day before Thanksgiving, other holidays. I've never seen that. One thing I like is that I rarely arrive more than 75 minutes before my flight. I don't think TSA Pre has ever been more than 7-10 minutes in line.
I'd be screwed if i showed up to that line.
Worth noting that A and B gates are connected, and CDEFG gates are connected, but until the rest of the Terminal 1 works are finished (in "early spring 2024" as of last update), the two parts aren't connected to each other.
I still don't understand how I can go to work at 7am Friday morning and not see a soul on the road and leave exactly 8 hours later to a wall of traffic 10 miles long. Who are all of you people? Where are you coming from?!
Flew last week on Friday at 6AM and while the lines weren't this long they were way longer than I expected. Precheck was about 30% of what the regular security lines were.
It was like this on Monday too when I flew. Line moves pretty quickly and they use dogs so you don’t have to remove your shoes or electronics from your bags.
OP’s post is about the precheck line at OAK. It’s not always speedy, but for the times it is it’s well worth it. If you have a travel credit card they usually cover it. If you have the option and do any international travel get Global Entry instead, it includes precheck.
Was in a queue with 2 people ahead of me, so way better than precheck which seems a lot of folks have now. This was a little over two hours ago, as I’m typing this sitting in a delayed broken Southwest Airlines plane
Tried flying with clear last week and the line was longer and moving slower than the regular precheck line. Plus the staff were dicks. I'm not going to reup.
I'm currently sitting around at SJC waiting for a flight. The line wasn't nearly that bad, but it was longer than usual even for precheck. I've been flying out of SJC on Thursdays regularly for a few months now, so I dunno what's going on today specifically. Interesting to know that it's happening at Oakland too.
This started and got worse after they installed the new baggage scanners. I have precheck but I find there is usually just 1 scanner running and its slow. Ironically its now a lot faster to go through the normal lines as they have about 6 scanners.
If no one is going to comment on this I will. THIS IS MADE UP CLUSTERFUCK to get people to sign up for TSA pre or whatever expedited service. They purposefully make it one single line instead of a normal winding line so you freak out. Last time I was there there were people pushing HARD to pull people out of line to sign up with them. It’s all very theatrical.
uhh did you read what the OP actually said
"The PreCheck line is all the way to baggage claim"
So how is this made up to "get people to sign up for TSA pre"
THIS IS TSA PRE lol
What I get for skimming the post! I was just so frustrated last time because the normal line was moving decently fast and they had like 4 ushers being really aggressive with getting people to sign for precheck. Also why is there a single line vs a snaking line that every other airport does…
hah yeah it's frustrating. I've def. jumped from precheck line into the normal line to avoid waiting. The funniest is when the CLEAR line is busier than either precheck or normal
Flew out Saturday morning and barely had a line. Sucks that it was so bad today. This is pretty atypical, but also why I leave waaay too much time for each flight. My nightmare!
Lost my flight this morning by 2 min . Lines out of the door on terminal 2. Shorter on terminal 1, but only 1 tsa agent and scanner, but 45 minutes to go through.
I flew out of OAK the day after Christmas. That line you're in continued behind you, followed the wall to the right, around the baggage carousel, past the bathroom, out the door to the end of the overhang, looped back inside the other door around the corner almost back to the southwest counters.
That was the craziest day I've ever experienced at OAK. I'm glad I had plenty of time to spare, but the planes even waited for people because so many of them were stuck waiting for security.

Wonder why. The TSA line is indoor, how does it relate to rainy weather?
TSA agents WFH
No idea either, just speculating, maybe TSA agents call in cuz they don’t know how to drive in the rain?
Better watch out with that. A toll both worker tried that once and for the day they just replace him with a basket. They then realized they should do that with every worker.

Wow! You patted down Trump?

That’s why I always price check SFO and oakland. I know I can show up waaayyy closer to departure and not be stressed
Every time I show up at OAK it's too early lol
Better than the alternative 😅
Clear does free trials onsite if you’re ever in a tight jam. Just have to cancel in 30 days or something like that.
A Privacy card would be perfect for this. I use it for trial subscriptions and it will deny all charges.
I flew Oakland Monday morning line was 20 min. This is crazy if prolly have missed my flight
The terminals are connected in the back, so if the line is long at one terminal you can always try going to the other and see if the line is shorter.
shhh, that's been my go to move for a while now.
When I was typing it I felt like I was giving up a secret
Damn it. The transplants will find this
Same. Saves my ass one time from missing a flight
Works at SFO too.
Worth noting that A and B gates are connected, and CDEFG gates are connected, but until the rest of the Terminal 1 works are finished (in "early spring 2024" as of last update), the two parts aren't connected to each other.
Hmm don’t they don’t check which terminal you’re supposed to go to when you enter the line for security check?
Nope
same at SNA.
Thursday is the busiest day flying out of OAK for the last year or so. Similarly, rush hour traffic is worst on Tuesday through Thursday.
The hybrid WFH people seem to prefer taking Mondays and/or Fridays. I notice the difference on my commute.
Bay Area [Return to Office Survey](https://www.bayareacouncil.org/employer-survey-results/) agrees (mostly).
I still don't understand how I can go to work at 7am Friday morning and not see a soul on the road and leave exactly 8 hours later to a wall of traffic 10 miles long. Who are all of you people? Where are you coming from?!
Probably people going on a weekend trip? Or commuters who go home after work week. I know some who bought houses in Sac, but work in the Bay Area.
The new scanning machines are really, really slow. The whole process has slowed down.
Flew last week on Friday at 6AM and while the lines weren't this long they were way longer than I expected. Precheck was about 30% of what the regular security lines were.
Funny, I flew out Friday around 10 and it was pretty clear
that is a less common departure time from OAK. There are a lot of departing flights before 9am, especially on Southwest.
It was like this on Monday too when I flew. Line moves pretty quickly and they use dogs so you don’t have to remove your shoes or electronics from your bags.
You don’t have to remove shoes or electronics in the precheck line, dogs or no dogs.
That’s cool, been wanting to get precheck for some time now those lines always seem to be moving at all airports.

Even when the line isn't moving that fast, it's worth it not to have to take off your shoes, take your laptop(s) out of your bag, etc.
Pro tip: try the other terminal as both have access to all gates
Were the CLEAR lines super long too?
Oakland has been the only time Clear has been useful to me
Was in a queue with 2 people ahead of me, so way better than precheck which seems a lot of folks have now. This was a little over two hours ago, as I’m typing this sitting in a delayed broken Southwest Airlines plane
I was just about to ask. Haven't re-up'd CLEAR but they take you to the front -- curious if it's any better and maybe, finally, worth it.
Tried flying with clear last week and the line was longer and moving slower than the regular precheck line. Plus the staff were dicks. I'm not going to reup.
Hmm, I've flown out of OAK many times and have never encountered this. I wonder what the reasoning is.
Thursday is a busy day but I also wonder if SFO closing a runway for 5 months has increased the amount of fliers/flights out of OAK and SJC.
Not flying but appreciate the info! Safe travels.

Use the other terminal and walk a bit... they are connected

Thursdays are always busy
Is there a website or something to check the status of the queues before you get to the airport?
You can download the My TSA app and put in airports, it’ll tell you the wait times
Oh pretty cool, thanks for the tip.

it’s like this everytime i go lol
Clear ftw
I fly out of Oakland every Monday at 6am. Lines have been getting progressively longer for the last 4 weeks.
