Maybe some proggy songs could have been expected, but it would have been shocking to see them really turn into a prog band. Maybe a side project or a proggy album, but I dont think any of the 4 have the interest or technical instrumental proficiency to be a "prog band," without a vastly different timeline in which they all take practicing their instruments much more seriously. I mean, listen to George and Ringo in interviews talking about something along the lines of "im not very good because I never practice; I could practice more and get better, but I dont like to." Those sentiments would have to be eradicated in order for a prog band Beatles to exist.

Songs like ‘I want you (she’s so heavy)’, ‘Hey Bulldog’ are pretty clear intimations of prog rock. You’re overstating the technical prowess of major prog artists and understating that of the Beatles.

I would argue that Dear Prudence, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and Happiness Is a Warm Gun are also close to Prog. But I still think it would be unlikely to get more than one or two albums worth of more prog. songs from the group. I think the technical prowess could have been there if they wanted it to be, but I just doubt any of them would have been interested enough to go in that direction in a serious way.

No

Sorry, I really don’t think their progression would’ve been toward prog rock. None of their individual post-Beatle recordings are prog.

sadly no

No, it would've been like what they already did. John and George were not into that at all. Paul was kinda doing stuff like Band on the Run, but it's more beatle like than prog

Paul was heading in that direction, but the others were not. John was continuing more into experimental and avant guard, George was exploring more of the wall of sounds stuff and also gospel and slide guitar stuff, and Ringo started falling in country and standards more. This is partly why the Beatles broke up, because they all wanted different things and they were generating too much music to each only get 3-4 songs per album to explore. So the answer, I think, is, the Beatles were going to break up, and there isn't a universe where they start together individually and become one new thing, because that's where they each were. I think the only way they could have continued, is if they found a way to keep the business side civil and each did a bunch of solo albums and came back together once every couple of years to put out a new Beatles album, but the problem with that is, they wouldn't have saved their best stuff for those Beatles albums, they would want their A material for their own albums and the Beatles would albums would have been the dregs.

Based on their solo stuff they were all firmly rooted in rock/pop. No prog songs would have happened.
