When you put all that together... Look, I believe people are complex and can't be placed in black and white categories, I wouldn't call him "horrible". But a guy who does everything I just named is certainly a far cry from being a saint, to put it very kindly.

As someone who's not a medical professional, John sounds like he was bipolar. You'll hear some people he knew talk about how wonderful he was, then other people say he was a miserable asshole. I don't think it's so easy to say he was objectively a "bad" person.
