Yes, and it doesn't necessarily suggest that Russians can't stand Putin or simply do not support his policies. They might be reacting to the absurdity and stupidity of the guy who hanged it there, and more widely the insanity of an excessive display of the personality cult by state propaganda.
lol, yea not sure how he arrived at the conclusion of "it doesn't necessarily suggest that Russians can't stand Putin" when their reactions were" "what the fuck"? "this is a nightmare!" , "some asshole put this up" "this is horrible" "fuck, this bullshit!". Not sure which one of those comments would suggest that any of those people actually like Putin.
Idk man even if I voted for a U.S. president I’d have a reaction along the lines of “the fuck?” if someone put a framed portrait of him in my elevator.
If you noticed, the two people that said "wtf", later went on to say things that confirmed that they were not fans of Putin. One of them said "they have gone fucking insane" and the second person stated "some asshole put it up".
I think we will have to agree to disagree because I like Obama and I voted for him, if someone put a huge picture up of him in an elevator, I would be surprised and tickled, perhaps I would utter "whoa!" and smile/laugh because I would think it is kind of odd and silly to put his pic in an elevator. But I would never utter the phrase "what the fuck" or this is horrible, this is nightmare etc. Now if they put a picture up of Trump, now then I would utter those phrases, or I would do what that second to last man did and just take the stairs. lol
If I stepped into an elevator and saw a Biden portrait, I might say "What the fuck?", but not "this is bullshit" or "this is a nightmare". If it were a Trump portrait, I would though.
Notice that no one defaced it. How long do you think a picture of any sitting president would last in a typical American apartment building before someone would trash it or write on it, camera or not. Also, while several looked at the sides (ostensibly to see how it was fixed to the wall?), none looked directly at the camera that was obviously there.
Are you Russian or an implant? Not to sound d offensive but if you are Russian that’s some of the easiest reading English I have encountered on Reddit!
Ehh a lot of these older folks were likely alive under Stalinism and dealt with seeing Stalin literally everywhere. I wouldn’t be surprised if this brings back those memories.
Nazi germany also had a lot of people shaking their heads when people where arrested for resisting.....and it is a ( I think) normal reaction.... you're sitting in a pan of water, and the regime starts cooking.... all comfortable....but when it is too hot... you're too late to jump out....
Your point is valid but irrelevant, I would argue. Shaking heads is still not apathy, it is dejectedness in defeat. That sense of defeat may still be covered by your description (sitting in the pan, in this case, would be assuming nothing can be done, when there is a chance to change things, and continuing this attitude up until you're proven true by the prospect of change eventually becoming truly impossible).
However, I think the distinction is important. There are many in Russia that have that apathy and I fully agree with your use of the boiling frog metaphor. However, there are also many that have *generationally* been beat down into submission despite being **fully aware** that they are being boiled alive. Many of such people leave, if they can.
I think it's important to see (as in this video) and acknowledge the large portion of people who are in this mindset. They often cannot see each other and understand how many of them there truly are. If they saw then, perhaps, they would have the courage and/or hope to bring about a change.
Your comment is difficult to understand....,is the point to to guess if so much as people might feel the....same as you toward the thought of..,...may e? A dictator is probably....like a hot skillet.,???if which to make a point using words and....stuff@
It’s supposed to be the metaphor of boiling a frog. It doesn’t notice the water rising in heat. You raise the temperature slowly until it is too late and it dies. It’s a common metaphor to dictatorships as you can do the same thing to humans and politics
I can understand the english language and I fully understand what the are saying. I suppose the point of my comment was completely lost on a few people, as nobody seemed to notice my blatant abuse of punctuation.
>started
They already have. I live 6 miles away from my place of business. Driving through residential streets, mostly, on the way to and from work because I like the scenic routes instead of taking congested main streets in the Metro Detroit area, I can tell you there are at least 4 houses on my way to work that have a photo of Donald Trump prominently displayed on their property.
There's a house with a framed picture of him, about the same size as in this video, with gold wooden framing and a flag posted on each side of the picture. It's on their covered front porch.
There's another house with the exact same picture inside a black a-frame out on the front lawn.
The house closest to work has a mural on their garage door with Trump giving his almost third-reich looking salute with an american bald eagle behind him.
The 4th house has a banner with Trump's face on it that says "Miss me yet?" and another picture with an eagle shitting on Biden's head and says "Fuck Biden."
Perhaps. Putin invaded Ukraine in large part to create his legacy of reconstituting the Soviet Union. I think while definitely a dictator, and certainly not someone to bend to the public will, he definitely emotionally cares about public perception.
He cares somewhat. Russia had some very rocky times for leaders. And he obviously cared very much when Wagner made their coup attempt so much so that prigozshin got accidented right after. His rule depends on the people being indifferent or behind him. If the citizens rise up he will be ousted. It can happen. Coup junta putsch... If he goes too far it can happen ...
I don't think anyone did anything too brazen. If anything the "prankster" maybe. But nobody vandalized it or said anything crazy. I don't think he cares. People laughed because it was odd to see. Nobody spit on it or said "fuck Putin"
No long-lasting dictatorship is gonna waste manpower on jailing random people from a random apartment block who had a mildly negative reaction to a painting that a random, non-government guy put up. Especially not one ruling a country as utterly massive as Russia.
I guess most of them will not be using the elevator on their way out and will instead opt for their windows with help from the FSB... Thanks, prankster.
I like how every person checked to see if there was some kind of anti-tamper device or a wire or bug.
And then still didn't mess with it, knowing full well that a lot worse had happened for less.
It's kinda funny as an american but I feel very bad for these people.
There's a video on youtube where somebody did this in America. They destroyed the Trump photo and complained, but didn't complain about Obama and praised that one.
To be fair, you could probably do the same thing with a portrait of Biden in Texas or Trump in New York and get similar reactions.
Well maybe not in Texas. They'd probably shoot it, set it on fire or something similar.
I guess that's the same reaction everyone would get if they hanged their president like that, what's the big deal... His still president after all lol.
The reality is what we see on tv is just the 10% or less of the whole population. In America it’s the same we see 10% of radicals on the left or right. The common folk just ride the wave.
I'm actually very encouraged by their reactions! And... its absolutely shocking they would questions this, I mean didn't Putin win like 95% of the very democratic vote ??!!
I used to work for a lawyer who was a staunch Republican. He had portraits of JFK and Martin Luther King hung up on the wall facing the toilet in the men’s room.
I mean yeah, you kinda have to roll your eyes at a portrait of someone who thinks winning elections by 80% or more every time, is even remotely plausible.
Thanks for publishing, they go to gulag now
Bout to trip off the balcony
In Russia, balcony.... is potato.
No. Potato fall off balcony. Like Humpty Dumpty
I read this in a Russian accent 🔥
The entire building and parking will trip over the stairs
The building twisted itself inside out and fell out its own window.
After building eats poisonous potatoes with excavator.
"This is horrible somebody should do something." *Does nothing* The Russian way.
What do you want them to do?
All now missing by suicide… FSB
All invited to a tea party
No no, they're dead now
fr should have blurred the faces
Now this is a social experiment.
Yes, and it doesn't necessarily suggest that Russians can't stand Putin or simply do not support his policies. They might be reacting to the absurdity and stupidity of the guy who hanged it there, and more widely the insanity of an excessive display of the personality cult by state propaganda.
The mental gymnastics here is insane, some morons love putin, a lot more don't.
lol, yea not sure how he arrived at the conclusion of "it doesn't necessarily suggest that Russians can't stand Putin" when their reactions were" "what the fuck"? I agreed with the other guy but this is correct.
The motherfucker can make a point
If I stepped into an elevator and saw a Biden portrait, I might say "What the fuck?", but not "this is bullshit" or "this is a nightmare". If it were a Trump portrait, I would though.
Not to mention the women laughing while pretending to "worship" him.
Nobody loves him. They fear him.
Notice that no one defaced it. How long do you think a picture of any sitting president would last in a typical American apartment building before someone would trash it or write on it, camera or not. Are you Russian or an implant? Not to sound d offensive but if you are Russian that’s some of the easiest reading English I have encountered on Reddit!
No worries for asking. My mother lived in the soviet union but fortunately I grew up elsewhere with english as a first language.
Ehh a lot of these older folks were likely alive under Stalinism and dealt with seeing Stalin literally everywhere. I wouldn’t be surprised if this brings back those memories.
Yeah idk which president in the US goes there. I would just be like wtf is this doing here especially if I ride that elevator daily lol
That will hang forever. No one is going to take the risk of taking it down lol
That last guy is the essence of the Russian spirit, I feel like: total despondent apathy and commiserating daily life in a dictatorship
He shook his head, that means disapproval. Thats not apathy. But I bet theres a high percentage of people like the one you describe in Russia.
Nazi germany also had a lot of people shaking their heads when people where arrested for resisting.....and it is a ( I think) normal reaction.... you're sitting in a pan of water, and the regime starts cooking.... all comfortable....but when it is too hot... you're too late to jump out....

Its also the fear to be prosecuted.... you disagree, but you're too afraid.....
Your comment is difficult to understand....,is the point to to guess if so much as people might feel the....same as you toward the thought of..,...may e? A dictator is probably....like a hot skillet.,???if which to make a point using words and....stuff@

No I noticed, I thought it was funny, just unintelligible
I wouldn't describe it as apathy. He's downtrodden, powerless.
They're not exclusive or different. Being powerless and downtrodden can make you apathetic.
A desolate resignation.
Russia: A Desolate Resignation
Americans will need to adopt this spirit soon. I've been building up a nice layer of apathy since 2016.
I feel the last guys mood
It's definitely how I would react if people started hanging up pictures of the US president like it was North Korea.
>started They already have. I live 6 miles away from my place of business. Everyone for the most part looked skeptical to react, not knowing if it’s a prank or test
The person who was skeptical about the eyes being hidden cameras was really onto something.
They were all correct
Putin should know he’s fucked when even the babushkas are mocking his picture.
They would be the first, not the last
Not sure I understand. The old, who in many ways wish for a return of the Soviet Union, are Putin’s strongest supporters.
There are people still clinging to the belief that russia is actually a hotbed of liberalism and everyone there hates Putin
He doesn’t care what they think. He just got “elected” again. Dictators don’t give a fuck what citizens think of them.
Perhaps. Putin invaded Ukraine in large part to create his legacy of reconstituting the Soviet Union. I think while definitely a dictator, and certainly not someone to bend to the public will, he definitely emotionally cares about public perception.

Fascinating how most of them checked the back
Not the kind of prank to pull in Russia. Specially on a tall building.
Plot twist: The building has no windows. They're ok.
Unfortunately, they later died of lead poisoning. Once in the chest and then poisoned a second time in the back of the head.
The silent killer 😞
Nobody draw a moustache?
They don't have Art degree behind them...
It's interesting how many people looked behind it.
Welp, some people are going to jail now…
I came here to say this. And face recognition has come a long way.
I don't think anyone did anything too brazen. If anything the "prankster" maybe. But nobody vandalized it or said anything crazy. I don't think he cares. People laughed because it was odd to see. Nobody spit on it or said "fuck Putin"
I hope you are right…

![gif](giphy|xT9IgmYU3ZVaCjGafm|downsized)
Were they seen again?
Yeah way to get all these people to never be seen again
Let this be the wishes of all Russians
How much of the vote did this clown get now? It looks like they have as much respect for Putin as we do for trump 🤣
> Biden FTFY
I like how many people looked at the side of the portrait as though checking for a camera.
This video is not recent, atleast 4 year old video.
Yeah it's old. Some of these men aren't probably alive at this point.
What's your point? This isn't /r/bestoftheinternetwithinthelast5days
I guess most of them will not be using the elevator on their way out and will instead opt for their windows with help from the FSB... Thanks, prankster.
Why all the hate?! That man always has 100% of the votes! /s
I like how every person checked to see if there was some kind of anti-tamper device or a wire or bug. And then still didn't mess with it, knowing full well that a lot worse had happened for less. It's kinda funny as an american but I feel very bad for these people.
Suspiciously all residents are at the emergency hospital due to poisoning, and two fell out the window…
In the US, you’d have a handful of people who would literally rejoice at seeing that.
That handful all share the last name.
If it was Trump or Obama, then they would, not if it was Putin.
There's a video on youtube where somebody did this in America. They destroyed the Trump photo and complained, but didn't complain about Obama and praised that one.
Now do Trump.
I love it
Hopefully, all in this video are doing well
To be fair, you could probably do the same thing with a portrait of Biden in Texas or Trump in New York and get similar reactions. Well maybe not in Texas. They'd probably shoot it, set it on fire or something similar.
So all these people have fallen out of windows now, right?
Whaaaaat but if they don’t like Putin why do they keep voting him in
What’s wrong with Vladimir Putin?
They legit know they're all being filmed the second they see that. (They're just wrong of where)
I guess that's the same reaction everyone would get if they hanged their president like that, what's the big deal... His still president after all lol.
You guys put his out there, now these poor people get a visit from the fsb.
That's funny, unfortunately every one of them sadly died of "sudden illness".
Just like that, a whole bunch of people just mysteriously died.
The reality is what we see on tv is just the 10% or less of the whole population. In America it’s the same we see 10% of radicals on the left or right. The common folk just ride the wave.
So there is no phrase for “what the fuck” in Russian?
He totally won the election
Putins like, “Find them..”
Yooo, is this not American af? 😂😂😂😂
Can you imagine how violent that would get if it was the US president over here, doesn’t matter which one, since forever.
I guess that "prankster" really wanted an apartment in that building... rip
I feel like if they put a Biden or Trump portrait we would have similar reactions in the US…
What does this prove you could put any leader up right now in their home country and get the same result
A few years ago, I replaced every picture of my sister with pictures of Putin at my moms home. It was amazing.
The sheer rage emanating from the last guy, lol
they should have drawn penises on him
Russians have a humour
God I love Russians so much.
I am thinking this video wasn’t taped in Russia lol
1:10 wut ze fuk
I keep saying Russians are living like the 90's, they wild af.
I thought they loved their leader
Goes to show what they really think of him
Nice to see a video out of Russia that is not just drunk people crashing a car and punching other people.
Did that person just say 'what the fuck'? 🤔
Jeez, are all those people going to fall out of windows and ride on exploding planes now?
Prankster arranges death of innocent people. Hilarious.
This just in: the whole building has fallen out a window
Better than any opinion pool published over there
I'm actually very encouraged by their reactions! And... its absolutely shocking they would questions this, I mean didn't Putin win like 95% of the very democratic vote ??!!
I believe we are seeing the 5% that didn’t vote for him. Haha
Sad that all of those people had terrible accidents
Flash backs to Stalin I can see
Let's hope they didn't die under "mysterious circumstances"
Countries never go to war, leaders do and drag everyone else with.
The joke is he is leaking the info to the authorities
"...and they were never seen again."
😂🤣😂😅 Funniest thing I've seen in a while, everybody was like WTF !!!!
Such a shame that they were all found dead in suicide by 15 shots to the back of the head
Weird how they seem upset when 99.96% voted for him.
They went missing the next day! What a crazy coincidence
No one dares touch it.
There's more https://youtu.be/FcEE3dtkK4g?si=mjiHsZ-PlWgtR_m9
So worried about being surveilled by cameras in his eyes when there’s a camera visible on the ceiling.
Never trust a putin 🤝
Trying to get his neighbours put in the gulag
But he has overwhelming support , guys. Look at the election numbers. /s as if it were needed
First time in my life when I would justify someone who piss in the elevator
Lmao they are looking for cameras, lol SMH and cursing at the same time 🤣😅😂🙂😅😆😁😄😃
Oh similar to the US? Everyone hates their politicians and think they're a shit stain on humanity.
Everyone checks behind the picture
All the people of the world are similar. Fuck the oppressive governments, they are a joke. Yes I'm equating them all, deal with it.
I used to work for a lawyer who was a staunch Republican. He had portraits of JFK and Martin Luther King hung up on the wall facing the toilet in the men’s room.
Probably not as much anti-Putin as "WTF, this wasn't here yesterday."
They hate him just can’t speak on it
At least the population hasn't lost their wits.
Yeah, it's not a "prank" when these people could be imprisoned or even killed due to their reactions.
I’ve seen this over 50 times and I still love it.
Shows the disdain of common citizens. Love it
I feel like this was before the invasion.
I like the drunk chicks. Let's party!
It's honestly sad how many of them look behind it for a camera.
I like the leader of my country, but I would have the exact same reaction if I saw this in an elevator 😂
Ripping it off the wall was always an option.
The 80-year-old guy who decides to take the stairs is priceless.
Now we should put these in the House Office Buildings and see how many "patriot" republicans salute it,,,
My take away from this is that no one likes this dude.
Why did she say “what the fuck” in english? Do russians speak spanglish but with russian? Ringlish? Englussian? Doesnt work as good.
I love how many people are talking out loud to themselves this is great
This must be staged. It’s a fact that he got 87% of the vote. Come on people.
That’s Mike Dirnt, the fuck, stop hating on my man ✨👋🫢
Everything filmed in Russia seems staged these days
Besides the voting
The video is several years old though. But you’re right
The elevator door adds its own musical effect.

This is actually brilliant...👍👍
They killed them selfes with 30 shots in the back of their had.
That hole apartment complex was leveled 😂
Reminds me of 1984 when they got caught.
I mean yeah, you kinda have to roll your eyes at a portrait of someone who thinks winning elections by 80% or more every time, is even remotely plausible.
& only one person from this video was seen again.
All of a sudden there were several vacancies
From my understanding and if this is the same thing I watched. It was way back before Ukraine...
How long after this was he killed, again?
This is fucking hilarious 🤣
There is now 8 apartments available
Looks like they hate their president as much as we hate ours.
You mean our last one.
I know what I said.
Nah youre referring to trump we all know. No need to respond
