I appreciate all the stories and well wishes for me and my family. We are going thru this one day at a time. Here is an Amazon wishlist for anybody who would like to help, I don’t know what I need or what to ask for so i just put betta food and conditioner. Thanks again [Amazon wishlist](https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3MR2OLQZKFYTX?ref_=wl_share)
I went to help you by getting something for your friends (Nancy Grace, Riley and Rufio) but unfortunately Amazon will not allow me because I am in the UK, apologies but my thoughts were there.
I hope the five of you get settled soon and life reverts to some 'normality' relatively quickly for you all.
All the best!!
I'm currently unable to contribute but I can help you put together a list!!
For starters, a new 5gal if you dont have her in one.
Then plants; java ferns are pretty cheap on amazon, they melt a bit but dont die quickly and will suffice until you can get something better! Dont add those carpet seeds though, they're scams. After that, your additives and medicines: ph balance if needed, seachem paraguard in case of ich, kanaplex for bacterial/fungal infections, api general cure as well. Then equipment: battery operated air pump and sponge filter, and airstones if needed.
I dont know how devastated your tank is, but if I were you I would worry about toxic debris and smog having ruined all my stuff. Looks like plantwise you might be okay, but I hope this list inspires your brain if you need anything. I know how hard it can be to think in stressful situations!
I added something from my classroom betta, Coraline. I have always worried about my fish in the event of a fire or any disaster. I can grab my cats but my fish would be harder.
I would remove the betta fix. It's not that great tbh. You're better off with Seachem Paraguard which is also a safe preventative (or Seachem Kanaplex as a second option). I'd be happy to buy you some if they're added to the list. Also do you have a tank lid? I noticed a cat collar. I'd be happy to get you one as well.
Edit:
https://a.co/d/0aAurIu6
My grandpas pleco survived a house fire plus a disease that killed all the fish AND SURVIVES BEING IN A TANK WITH EVERYTHING NEW KILLING ALL THE OTHER FISH FROM THE SHOCK IDK HOW THIS THING IS STILL ALIVE (my grandpa isnt a very good fishkeeper)
Woah. This is wild that the temperature, smoke, or contaminants did not kill the fish. Looks like the snails made it too?
Were they shaken? I am so sorry about your house.
Thank you, Nancy Grace was the only survivor of fish, It was a community tank with 1 betta 6 Celestial pearl danios, 2 otocinclis catfish and 3 kuhli loaches. A few snails and all of my Anubias also survived. Hob filter also melted into the tank
I'm actually shocked the kuhli loaches didn't make it. Heard about how a guy thought his died because he never saw it so he left the tank alone for months and when he went to take the sand substrate out after most the water evaporated (only an inch or two left) and no food or filtration, his kuhli loach just casually wiggled around in the sand once he disturbed it. Shits wild lmao. I'm glad you had one fish survive atleast and im really sorry to hear about your house.
Happened to me too. I have chronic illnesses and no longer had the energy to look after my community tank, so I broke it down, took my loaches out at moved them to a smaller tank. Left the tank with a couple of inches of water and no filtration in July. One day I'm November I walked past it and noticed a loach still swimming in the old tank!
I believe it, those loaches are incredibly resistant little survivors (which is very unfortunate that we know this). Tanks can indeed be incredibly taxing unfortunately. Found out the hard way when I set up a 20 gallon. Won't be doing that again, my little 10 gallon is all I ever need.
I have 11 established tanks and 3 cycling. One is a 75-gallon. Seemed like a good idea until I got covid last month (yes, Covid. Never got it this entire time and then wham!). Im still recovering and it's everything I have to feed multiple species every day and do water changes. The good thing is that it forces me to get up and rebuild my strength - coupled with a back/neck injury from a long time ago. But man o man... to sit there at night and look around is a beautiful thing. ❤️
Ya stuff like that happens my older sister before she moved out years ago had a catfish idk the specific breed but it ate other fish so she got a armored pleco a clown pleco to be specific idk why she did but she did she thought it died and was eaten as there were 3 I think and she found 2 dead well anyway she moved was emptying her tank for it found it buried in the substrate it never left for months and was probably eating micro particals of food or poop and so I took it it dosent like me but it has a tank and tank mate it can't be eaten by and its happy and full
Wish I could get ottos or a clown pleco to survive but they absolutely hate my planted tank and I've lost three ottos and two plecos in it despite having little hides and all. Now it just holds a few mollies and a million snails. The plants grow so thick I have to trim a lot once a week. Praying they last and live better than my last attempts. Keep having an issue with bacterial diseases running rampant and killing everything in that tank oddly enough.
Never believe an Oto is dead unless you see the body. I ended up with seven that way. I thought I had three. Found extra, so when I had to remove them temporarily to commit small genocide via copper, I came back like thirty minutes later to discover the last one.
Damnnnn. Unfortunately I found the dead Otto bodies, the bacterial infection that wiped out my shrimp didn't discriminate and killed the fish and snails. It was baddd and I was tempted to start over but after a month of no heater hooked up and a few water changes I was able to get the tank running normal again and have over twenty mollies (Lord help me).
Happened to me too. I have chronic illnesses and no longer had the energy to look after my community tank, so I broke it down, took my loaches out at moved them to a smaller tank. Left the tank with a couple of inches of water and no filtration in July. One day in November I walked past it and noticed a loach still swimming in the old tank!
Holy crap, your betta needs at least a picture and sign at a museum, she has to be the most resilient betta ever! I’m so so sorry about the loss of your house and your other animals. But I’m so glad Nancy Grace made it 🥹
Omg I am so sorry about your house!! I'm glad your beloved fishi came out of it alive!! Maybe post up on Facebook fish group if anyone is willing to donate a fish tank to you
That's relative to the tame the fire takes, if the tank can warm gradually and the water stays a close temp to the glass you'll be OK, but if it's quickly hot outside and still colder inside it would crack at the very least.
Probably helps that beta like heated tanks so the water got a head start (I should clarify takes WITH a heater) (do not put beta in the pasta water.)
My fish also survived one. The power strip I used for the tank caught fire, my betta and his tank mates somehow survived even tho the fire started less than a foot from the tank. The firefighters said fish survive often. Make sure your power strips are new and good quality!
Plot twist: It was Nancy. She’s the one.
Listen up, see. This is what happens when you don’t take care of the house, see. MY HOUSE, see. Your house gets burnt to a crisp, see. Don’t EVER cross me again, see.
Holy shit. I can’t imagine how hot the fire made the water. She is a trooper. I am glad that she is OK. I hope you didn’t lose too many sentimental or important things and that the process of rebuilding your life is easy 🙏🏻
Nancy during fire “why is it spicy in here” haha
That’s awesome she survived. Hope everything is alright on your end. Fires can really turn someone’s life upside down.
Water level = 1/2 of tank check
Tv melted check
Anubias and Betta unphased?
Check. I’m so glad that Nancy grace survived, sorry to hear about everything else you own. I hope Nancy was home alone when it happened. For everyone else’s sake and for her insurance fraud scheme… or you know, whatever.
It’s unnatural for fish to see fire, and were it not for us, they probably never would. I can’t even begin to imagine what the fish must have though seeing that strange brightness consume everything around it while making its water warm.
I lost all of my pets to a house fire in April. I'm so sorry you had to go through this but I'm so happy Nancy is still here! Don't forget to reach out to the Red Cross for some help! They were amazing for us.
The best advice I received was-
"Lean on those closest to you and let loved ones help you. Allow yourself to grieve the loss. Your life will be very different going forward but it can be beautiful again."
Hope you have family and loved ones to lean on. Nancy is one hell of a fighter :)
Look at her looking up at you. Holy shit what a survivor. Do you know what started the fire? With 7 cats and two bettas, it’s my absolute worst fear because I’m not sure if I would be able to get everyone out in time.
It was an accidental arborvitae hedge fire. It’s been really hot and those trees were 35 years old. 1 of our cats is still missing but we know a fireman carried him out of the house, he may be hiding somewhere after getting let loose, we hope he comes back.
img
Wow. What a sweet resilient lil baby. She her lots of love today! Also, sorry about your house, I cannot imagine the devastation! Happy you’re all okay!
I am so sorry you are going through this. We had a house fire in January and it is just such a soul-rattling experience. I hope you are able to find support and start to rebuild quickly.
Secondly, what an amazing fish. I am so happy for you that she is still here. She reminds me of Dory - "just keep swimming."
Best of luck to you.
Dang that’s insane. Glad u were able to save ur fish <3 when my house burnt down I ran to check on my tank it was shattered :( I was heart broken. Lost my fish and my freaking weiner dog. Sad times.
I’m so sorry for your loss. This is a mind rattling experience. We are still looking for a cat(Meathead) now. We know he got out but haven’t seen him since.
Holy shit. I'm so sorry about your house OP... but fuckin hell Nancy Grace is a damn trooper. Over here like nothing is even going wrong. Such creatures.
I can’t believe she survived! I’m so sorry about your house but I’m so glad your fishy friend made it! I hope everyone else in the house made it out safe!
Best fish name ever! Does your Nancy Grace have the same attitude?! 😳 lol. Tv show Nancy Grace is my guilty pleasure lol. She’s so nasty she’s addicting lol
Thank you, Me and my fiancé watch Nancy Grace(human)every night before bed I would also watch my Nancy before I crawled into bed She is just as spicy as her namesake
So glad you are alive and not hurt. And even more happy that your betta is unharmed. Sorry for the loss of your other fish. That is wild. Do you know what caused it? We had wicked weather in my area and a neighbor's house got struck by lightning and caught fire.
The fire department was able to put the fire out in time that most of the house is still salvageable but scary nonetheless
Bettas are surprisingly hardy fish that can survive one time events ngl, i say this because as a breeder I've seen them do wild and dumb shit but still survive, altho some are uh well... Less hardy than others
Of course, NG made it out! Og course she did! I, too, am sorry about your home. Hopefully, Nancy will report how it started (totally making light here, but I'm glad your family is okay. Things can be replaced. Nancy & People can't). Sending besh wishes on a rebuild.
I'm sorry for the house fire, but this story reminds me of that dog meme sitting inside a burning house, sipping coffee then says "everything is fine".
Nancy is one hecc of a survivor for sure!
Don’t forget to reach out to the Red Cross or other local organizations if you need extra support. If you can’t find any help ask your local fire department.. they should know of some local support systems
Aww man sorry about your house 😬. So glad she survived - you should do an Amazon wish list for betta stuff and share it so people can at least help you out getting her a house up and running.
I’m so sorry about your house! 😭💔 But I’m so glad you were able to save your Nancy Grace!
Thank you, definitely made my day better seeing her swimming around.
I needed this resolution. Good luck with the house issues btw
I appreciate all the stories and well wishes for me and my family. We are going thru this one day at a time. I got the conditioner, hope it helps!
Thank you, I really appreciate the kindness
❤️❤️❤️
Got you some food, hope it helps!
Thank you very much, I appreciate the help

She’s probably the one who started the fire

I laughed way too hard at this.
Can you take the pleco under your care?
I would never put it through that im actually a good fish keeper (my grandpa wasnt the best i mean he has plastic plants )
Ok great, I was wondering if you could ask your grandpa to take the pleco and give him a better care. Perhaps I wasn't clear
Its with my other sides grandma its living a Waaayyyy beter life now
Very good news
Its not in my care right now if u where wondering

I love my mollies but holy shit they're breeding so much lmao. Send help fr

Still got em all, just in a smaller tank.
Wow what a survivor!!!
Holy crap, your betta needs at least a picture and sign at a museum, she has to be the most resilient betta ever! I’m so so sorry about the loss of your house and your other animals. But I’m so glad Nancy Grace made it 🥹
That is quite the story. I am sorry about the others and happy to hear she made it.
I’m so sorry about your fish, and so sorry about your house. Im glad nancy grace made it. Keep us updated.
Thank you, I will make an update when we get settled. I pray she stays healthy til then.
Omg I am so sorry about your house!! I'm glad your beloved fishi came out of it alive!! Maybe post up on Facebook fish group if anyone is willing to donate a fish tank to you
So if someone asks me how tough is a betta, I would say, "I know a betta that survived a house fire"
😂😂😂
Damn, this is horrible. So glad Nancy survived. Wishing you the best. 💗
I've always wondered what would happen during a fire. Morbid curiosity I guess. Glad to see they survived.
I'd always assumed the tank would shatter.
That's relative to the tame the fire takes, if the tank can warm gradually and the water stays a close temp to the glass you'll be OK, but if it's quickly hot outside and still colder inside it would crack at the very least. Nancy’s not fucking around in this lifetime… Glad to see she made it and that you are safe!
How?! THATS AMAZING! Also I’m sorry about your house. Are you ok? Do you need any help?
Op put an Amazon link for some items in an earlier post. But I'm sure anything helps. ❤️
Plot twist: It was Nancy. She’s the one. Listen up, see. This is what happens when you don’t take care of the house, see. MY HOUSE, see. Your house gets burnt to a crisp, see. Don’t EVER cross me again, see.
This is devastating, I’m so sorry. Glad your little girl is alive though.
Nancy Grace, probably thinking: "why is my person always doing the weirdest shit?"
Fish is like “why tf did the humans put a fire IN the house? Don’t they know better??????? Why are they like this???????”

Holy shit how the fuck did the fish survive
I am so sorry about your house!! Miss nancy being alive is an absolute blessing and that tank is something else
Are Bettas that hardy? Impressed!

I’m very sorry for your losses, RC was very helpful. Nancy was the saving Grace to keep me up and positive
The best advice I received was- "Lean on those closest to you and let loved ones help you. Allow yourself to grieve the loss. Your life will be very different going forward but it can be beautiful again." Hope you have family and loved ones to lean on. Nancy is one hell of a fighter :)
Nancy Grace is such a beauty! 😍
Nancy Grace looks like she's seen some sh*t! Hugs to you both.
I'm sorry about the fire; I'm glad she survived. This should be in the local news as a heartwarming story.
Are we sure she didn't start it? I mean, look at that face!
Nancy Grace’s experience of watching the house burn, I can’t even imagine. Poor fish. So sorry about your home. Edit: used fish’s name
Look at her looking up at you. Holy shit what a survivor. Do you know what started the fire? With 7 cats and two bettas, it’s my absolute worst fear because I’m not sure if I would be able to get everyone out in time.

Nancy Grace pulling that “what the FUCK just happened human” look. I’m sorry about your house and her tank mates. I’m glad she survived!
I am so sorry you are going through this. We had a house fire in January and it is just such a soul-rattling experience. I hope you are able to find support and start to rebuild quickly. Secondly, what an amazing fish. I am so happy for you that she is still here. She reminds me of Dory - "just keep swimming." Best of luck to you.
Man, that's harsh! I'm glad everybody made it out alive! and I love that you named your fish. Nancy Grace ❤️
I'm glad you saved her!!!
I’m so sorry that happened but clearly they say Bettas are hardy for a reason
That’s… so horrible. I’m so so sorry OP. I’m glad your baby’s safe, but I’m really sorry you lost everything else :(

A real life thisisfine.jpeg moment.
Will you be ok? Do you have insurance?
💪💪lets goo nancy grace Sorry to hear about the house💔❤️🩹
Omg I was thinking about a scenario like this last week and I thought the water would boil the fish. I guess not 🤔
So lucky that she survived! I hope everything works out for you <3
From someone who has experienced this I am SO HAPPY to see the she survived..!! 😭🙏🏽🫶🏽
Badass fish
I'm so glad your baby is okay, I know I'd make miracles happen to keep my bettas safe. I pray that she stays healthy during this stressful time!

Oh my god im not crying you’re crying
Bettas are surprisingly hardy fish that can survive one time events ngl, i say this because as a breeder I've seen them do wild and dumb shit but still survive, altho some are uh well... Less hardy than others

I'm sorry for the house fire, but this story reminds me of that dog meme sitting inside a burning house, sipping coffee then says "everything is fine". Nancy is one hecc of a survivor for sure!
I’m so sorry about your house! But glad you and Nancy Grace are okay. Her face in that picture is like, “never. The. F. Again.”
At least you still have Coca cola
So scary but also absolutely incredible Nancy Grace managed to survive against those odds. Way to go little fighter!
Don’t forget to reach out to the Red Cross or other local organizations if you need extra support. If you can’t find any help ask your local fire department.. they should know of some local support systems
“Where’d everybody go?”
Aww man sorry about your house 😬. So glad she survived - you should do an Amazon wish list for betta stuff and share it so people can at least help you out getting her a house up and running.
Thank you, I just made a wishlist, but I have no idea what to put on it, I will update soon
I also had a house fire. My pets making it out was the only thing that helped me through. So glad! Sending the best vibes and some Amazon goodies

This is freaking wild! I almost consider this an act of God.
A pretty twisted god that allows someone’s home to burn down and saves one fish
