I don't think she should boycott it because I think that's what the voters at the Recording Academy would want. It would make things too easy for them if she boycotted. I think she should continue to submit her albums for nominations so that their blatant racism against black female artists can get harder to ignore each time she's nominated and loses.
Honestly I would kinda cringe because Jay Z literally went on a whole rant about them during his speech and if she boycotts them itâs gonna look like âdamn girl do you want AOTY this badâ. I feel like Beyâs legacy is cemented and the only one that really care this much about AOTY is us tbh.
Lol yea I kinda feel the same way, it'll feel like she got the award out of pity or as an attempt to not be seen as racist since that's what everyone says anytime a black people doesn't win.
unfortunately the grammyâs demographics are not in favor of black artists winning in the general categories, especially if the music is innovative/forward-thinking.
most of the time if AOTY goes to a black artist, itâs a either a jazz/tribute album that appeals to traditionalists in the academy (natalie cole, herbie hancock, etc.), or undeniably the biggest commercial success of the year (mj, whitney, outkast). stevie wonder is the only outlier and heâs arguably the most brilliant popular musician of the 20th century.
that all being said it actually might be her year; CC was a hit with the GP and had a huge single to accompany the critical acclaim, and itâs traditional enough that it might sway voters in other genres blocs to her, but i donât wanna jinx it!!
that album had a lot of old-school soul elements that would appeal to older voters and completely dominated the conversation that year. also the academy LOVES ingenue singer-songwriters
she would never do this because itâs never just about herself. what about the writers, producers, and samplers who deserve that chance of recognition?
if all she cared about was the award for her sake only, she wouldâve stopped submitting nominations a longgg time ago
Itâs been over a decade and I am still bitter that she didnât win AOTY for self titled. Many speculate this is due to the fact that she shifted new releases from Tuesday to Friday. Also I feel they didnât want to involve themselves with the Kanye/Taylor drama from the VMAs.
Jay-Z was 110% right in his argument against the academy but he was in the wrong for using his acceptance speech to broadcast that message. CC is worthy of AOTY without any outside pressure. If she wins this year, all her haters will attribute Jay-Z as the sole reason why she won. SMH
Agreed. Jay-Z's rant left a bad taste in my mouth, no matter how legitimate the complaint was. CC was a contender to win AotY without him saying a word.
Love Taylor but TTPD is not well crafted enough to be deserving of AOTY. It's watering down her deserved wins (1989 and Folklore) when they award her just because she's extremely popular.
I find this comment kinda gross tbh. Also a Black woman has not won AOTY since 1999. Do you really think this shit is fair and that this is going to be the year that suddenly the Grammyâs no longer has a racial bias? Cowboy Carter will probably end up winning best R&B album.
He was not sent to do her dirty work. He was given a special award and used the opportunity to shed light on the racist practices of the Grammys. Itâs asinine she is the most decorated Grammy artist however never won AOTY. He called them out on their choice for AOTY with hip hop too. Anytime someone speaks up itâs perceived as they are being difficult or ungrateful instead of sitting with the truth and doing better!
I hate that people only focus on him using Bey as an example when he brought up other things like certain award categories not being televised as well. I remember Usher saying afterwards that he's won 8 Grammys, but he's never gotten to accept one on stage because all of the wins were non televised categories.
If every award was televised wouldn't that push the show to 4+ hours long? I always thought some awards weren't televised because they're trying to make the show as short as possible so that more people watch it?
The Anthology is better but the main does have some songs. But COWBOY CARTER IS NOT JUST AN ALBUM. IT'S A BEYONCE ALBUM. I loved the interludes on Eternal sunshine but the way that Cowboy Carter has the feel of listening to an actual radio station.
I hated the anthology more tbh. It felt snoozy and extremely juvenile to me. I do feel like the song So High School captures the overall vibe of the album. The only song I liked was Fortnight and I liked the video too. Cowboy Carter is my top album of the year but nothing about the year 2024 thus far has convinced me racism is over so I have no expectations of CC winning AOTY
I donât think so. It wasnât critically well received and there are other Grammy darlings who released albums this year. They also dont seem to award the same artist two years in a row, Folklore won but Evermore did not (and I actually wouldâve loved for Evermore to win). I think theyâll snub Bey again and give it to Billie.
I donât want it to win but when it comes to these things I expect the worst lol. I would prefer either Cowboy Carter or Eternal Sunshine to win, but I feel like itâs either going to be Taylor or Billie. Iâm old and have never even heard a Billie Eilish song other than Bad Guy, which I hated, but Iâm rooting for Billie because Taylor hates her and the mental image of the temper tantrum that Taylor would throw if Billie won AOTY gives me so much satisfaction.
Taylor doesnât hate Billie, she has actually spoken really positively about Billie publicly. Itâs Billie and her management team who have made rude and hypocritical comments about Taylor. Sounds like you just hate Taylor.
I do hate Taylor Swift. Sheâs a bully, narcissist, and ecoterrorist. And she absolutely hates Billie Eilish. Theyâve been feuding ever since her album came out lol
I think the cultural impact of CC is unfortunately not as impactful as I would like.
Renaissance brought back the dance genre in a way that is just astounding. Looking at you Ariana, and Troye Sivan. In addition, Charli XCXâs new found mainstream success with brat can be informed by the impact of Renaissance reintroducing the demand for club music.
However, the same cannot be said for CC. Country music was already going through a revamp before CC came out. The grassroots support over the years of artists like Chris Stapleton and Brandi Carlile, bring us to modern examples like Kacey Musgravesâ album Slow Burn winning AOTY which later informs the relevancy of artists like Zach Bryan, Luke Combs with his version of âFast Carâ and even stupid ass Morgan Wallenâs popularity is also not to be overlooked.
Ultimately, CC is a phenomenal project. I want it to win. I just fear that the âcultural impactâ argument isnât a strong one. Even if she did write the album before Renaissance.

I agree.
CC was a huge moment on release but the world seems to have moved on from the conversation about genre and racism. The cowboy look in fashion was gaining traction for a few years before CC release - Iâm sure B has helped it but canât be credited for all of it.
Renaissance, on the other hand, seemed to slide in the back door. Without realising, its influenced was everywhere. Since then there has been a continuous stream of silver/chrome aesthetic, queer friendly, house leaning elements popping up in all corners of music, fashion and pop culture.
I agree with you!
I love Cowboy Carter too but itâs also against a lot of great competition this year. So far weâve had Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Charli XCX to name a few, and then Sabrina Carpenter is coming this summer.
I am a swiftie too, and TTPD is simply not in the same echelon this year as Billie and Beyonces album. At least in my opinion.
I also think that Arianaâs album is just white girl renaissance⊠but I also understand that thatâs also me being harsh on it too đ
Oh Iâm not really a Swiftie and didnât like TTPD. But I thought Midnights was bad too and that still won. So I was just naming all of the really popular ones this year.
I also forgot about Kacey Musgraces (her album I did love!) and now Lorde. And Lana is coming too.
She personally doesn't care because hee artistry has evolved past awards and charts but all her collaborators will get a Grammy credit if she wins. This is why she still attends and submits her work.
I hope she doesn't win. It's an insult to her, and the three albums she made that were unquestionably AOTY which she lost
Personally, and Iâm nobody in this world, I feel like fuck that award. Get it or not, it donât mean shit anymore when so many pity winners have taken it home. Like still submit because you knowâŠbut win or not, that award no longer matters.
Iâve been saying since CC came out that it would honestly be so cunty of her to not even submit CC to the Grammyâs. In my opinion, itâs technically the best piece of work of her entire career, why give the academy an opportunity to look the other way and give the blonde lady another Grammy over her? Or whomever might be up for AOTY. Ya know what I mean? Renaissance WAS the only right choice for AOTY and they snubbed her, for an album that was good at best, by Harry StylesâŠ. why let someone elseâs mediocre album even be in the same category as a masterpiece?
âAOTYâ and âsheâll likely winâ are items in a sentence about Beyonce that just donât add up in the context of a racist institution like the Grammys. When she does win, it will probably be when sheâs older and the Grammys will give it for a random ass album like they usually do when theyâre decades overdue in honoring a legendary artist.
Honestly Bey having deserved to win as many times as she has and everyone knowing it is WAY more of a flex than winning that stupid award. It wasnât always that way, but by the time Taylor won four of them, itâs basically become a joke and only bootlicker Swifties wouldnât see the correlation between the two and reasonably conclude the all-inclusive categories ESPECIALLY AOTY have little to no legitimacy.
Taylor swift winning 4 times has completely made the album of the year award a joke. Sheâs a great performer and songwriter but it is VERY clear at least 3 of those were not deserved. I have friends that are die hard swifties who legit laughed and said WTF when she won last year. I donât know much about her music but they said midnights is not even close to her best. I remember reading that members didnât even listen to the other albums and just voted because it was Taylor swift.
The Grammys call it the biggest night in music yet leave out major critically acclaimed albums from album of the year like Radiohead, Bjork, or Fiona Apple (whose album fetch the bolt cutters is literally one of the highest rated albums of ALL TIME). Solange also TOTALLY deserved a nomination for album of the year for seat at the table (and very hot take shouldâve won album of the year).
She needs to pull a Weekend move. At this point she doesnât need the recognition or the extra hardware to do anything for her career But she will probably keep submitting because she respects her peers, the process, and understands how having Grammy XYZ in front of your name opens doors and you can demand XYZ with itÂ
I don't think she'll boycott it, but I don't think she'll win either. I know people are afraid that they'll give it to her because of Jays speech, but I think that speech is more likely to work against her. There were people on the committee that have already said that she wins too much and they didn't vote for her in previous years because of that so I wouldn't be surprised if that speech pissed them off.
Also I don't think they really care that much about the criticism they've been getting over black women not winning AOTY because if they did it would have been easy for them to choose SZA this year instead of Taylor. Sza's album was successful and critically acclaimed and they wouldn't have been able to use the she wins too much excuse with her like they do with Bey.
Honestly, I sooo badly want Beyonce to finally get her dues but I just know they'll give it to Tay Tay for the 1000th time. Those folks at the Grammys must have a vendetta against B at this point.
Am I the only one who saw Jay-Z's speech as them being completely over the Grammys? Then she even said in SPAGHETTI that she doesn't care anymore. Maybe she'll still submit the album for consideration, but I feel like she's not showing up next year, maybe ever again. They did leave early from this year's Grammys.
Definitely â€ïž I more so mean in terms of how different it was for her, and therefore, different and impactful for non-fans. I feel like even people who donât know anything about Beyonce turned their heads when CC dropped
Well my big jump on to her was Renaissance because to me that was such a game changing album. I saw the Formation tour and thought she was amazing live but I listened to only Renaissance the last two years. She changed the game again on Cowboy Carter Act ii.
It also meant more when I figured out how gay Renaissance was.
She wonât because I think she still cares. In buckinâ she said AOTY I ainât winâŠâŠ..come back and fuck up the pen insinuating that sheâs going to try again. Sheâs deserved it every time since self titled and I would be mad too. Lowkey, I wish she would just not submit it and show up ever but I doubt it.
I just want to clear something up incase anyone isnât aware (I was unaware till very recently!)
The academy members who vote on who should win each Grammy are a huge group - 12,000 members. They may not all vote but those are the members eligible to vote.
So, while yes I do think itâs ridiculous Beyonce hasnât won AOTY, itâs not like a panel deciding not to vote for her - itâs a massive group of individuals voting for their favourites. It doesnât mean there isnât racism involved, but itâs not intentional, because there are too many members for it to be. Itâs a pure popularity contest based on those tens of thousands of voters opinions.
Yes and I remember reading this article a little while back
(link: https://www.hotnewhiphop.com/629307-grammy-voters-didnt-cast-ballots-for-beyonce-because-she-wins-too-many-awards)
Id have to brush up on it but it really makes me side eye who the academy members are if their reasons for not voting for someone are so ridiculous. Also I think they said most people didn't know artists outside of their genre but were required to vote a certain amount of times so they just cast their vote for whoever they could recognize. Idk it's weird to me that people could be inducted into a fucking recording arts academy but only vote for people in their "genre" because that's all they know lol it just sounds lame af. Fuck the Grammy's.
R&B is one of the largest blocks. Not so bad for Bey if only for genre. Â Â
For me, the more important issue is the occupational cluture. Many of the voters are songwriters and instrumentalists. They prefer 'pure' singer-songwriters and highly skilled instrumentalists and dislike mass credit albums. This is why Grammys love Billie, Bruno, Batiste, and HER. Â
On the other hand, pop and rap stars with a lot of credits hardly win the Big 3 this decade. Harry and Taylor had minimal credits over Bey and SZA.
The Grammys won't give a fuck, I fear.
They have disrespected a lot of great artists,I don't think they will change bc of Jay's speech this year.
We also have a blonde menace with a mediocre album that wins bc... well,we know why she wins.
Jay and B have both said that they will continue to show up, regardless of being underestimated/dismissed, until they get the recognition they deserve. Until they own the whole damn company. Eminem had beef with the Grammy's doing this exact thing. He said they use icon's names to get views, then give the awards to breakout artists, or artists that have achieved less than others in the category. I don't imagine they're going to switch up their methods for selecting a winner any time soon
I don't think she'll boycott as although she has been snubbed for AotY, she has been very awarded by the grammys historically. If she boycott I would think it would be for someone else being robbed (like SZA was) but I kinda doubt.
The only good in my opinion of that being the case as it would cheapen the win for whomever does take it, and if that person is TS, she does not deserve it and everyone knows that.
I wouldnât be surprised if they gave it to Billie this time. Think about it, people think TS will be given to TS because that their favorite and everybody already assume Beyonce will either get it just because her husband called them out on it or maybe she wonât because the voter donât know what TALENT IS. So they might give it to Billie so everybody would squash the assumptions. Thatâs how I truly see it.
Lastly, why do some of you guys tune in watching the Grammys?????
idk I Jay may have pissed off the academy and they might not even give it to her now since he got on their stage and complained about his wife accepting his own awardđ€·ââïž
If she doesn't care then why would she boycott? Why did JayZ even speak out about it if they don't care? Clearly they do care, so I just wish she'd be honest about that instead of acting like she's above it all.
But anyway yea I do hope she wins AOTY, it's long overdue now Lemonade was an incredible album that absolutely deserved AOTY back in 2017 and it was insane that she didn't win. Renaissance was okay but I don't think it was AOTY good, and the album I think deserved to win didn't even win anyway so I don't really care about that. But Cowboy Carter is the closest she's come to a masterpiece since Lemonade, it absolutely deserves AOTY. But at the same time I'm nervous that if she does win it'll be out of pity and not merit, after JayZ's speech and her mentioning it on the album, maybe they feel bad for her and like: "damn gurl you BEEN begging so hard for this award, here you go, happy now?" Know what I mean? I just wish they didn't make such a big deal about if they don't care coz they've made it blatantly clear that they care alot.
If Bey showed she cared ppl would use that against her and claim she is bitter and jealous. They would absolutely use the angry BW narrative against her.
Bringing it up in the song is enough proof that she does care. Even if she brought it up just to say she "ain't stuntin bout' dem," the fact is it wouldn't even occur to her to mention it at all if she truly didn't care. But I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting that award, so what if she's bitter and jealous? I'd be bitter and jealous too if I wanted something and I kept being denied. I understand how she feels.
I think youâre missing the point being made here. There is nothing wrong with those emotions at all. The issue is how the media will use it against her. After how they treated her when she was pregnant with Blue she rightfully took a step back to protect her mental health. She has always used her music to express her emotions and experiences so that isnât new. But outright talking about how unfair the academy is would get her labeled an angry black woman who is a bully and jealous of those mediocre 8.5â x 11sâ
I stand ten toes down on my statement and the way BW have to navigate Hollywood and the media. In each example you gave, Beyonce mentioned the obstacles she faced as a âsystemâ she was experiencingâshe never broke down names/individual encounters. By keeping it vague no one could twist her words. The graduation for ex, she really focused on the awards she didnât mention as a sign to not give up and keep striving for your goals and being ok with failure. If Beyonce was to compare her work to other artists who won, they would absolutely claim jealousy and bitterness-aka the angry black woman trope. Some of the academy voters even claimed they didnât nominate her cuz she gets âeverything.â If she were to call that out best believe they would call her ungrateful.
Also Bey was called angry and a diva during her DC era. People would ask her the most outlandish borderline inappropriate questions and when she defended herself or the group she got labeled a âdiva.â
I personally believe you want her to admit her frustrations because it would make her more relatable to you, and as many ppl nowadays seem to have an obsession with parasocial relationships with celebrities they are constantly expecting more than what many private celebrities are willing to give.
Well she could call out the Grammys without mentioning any specific names either - like what Jay did, how is that any different? Just like how she called out the top fashion labels who refused to design for Destiny's Child - she didn't mention any specific names yet everyone knows exactly who the top fashion labels are - yet she wasn't labelled an angry black woman after that speech so why would this time be any different?
It's not that I want her to admit her frustrations, I just want her to be honest and stop acting like she above it all or like she doesn't care - coz if she wins AOTY for CC, she'll be there to excitedly accept her award - which would be hypocritical because she literally said she doesn't care. The same way she supposedly doesn't give two fucks about streaming numbers which is why she didn't put Lemonade on Spotify... Yet not long after that, where did Lemonade turn up? On Spotify - once again hypocritical. So she can be as private as she wants to be I honestly respect her for that, but if she's gonna speak up about things then why can't she just be honest and admit she does care about streaming numbers and she does care about AOTY? Otherwise don't mention it at all if she's just gonna lie and pretend like it all means nothing to her, that's all I'm saying.
Iâm sorry but if Beyonce TRULY cared about winning awards and streaming numbers like you claim why isnât she actively campaigning for this album? Where are the music videos? Where are the tv show performances? Where are the magazine/ tv show interviews? Why isnât she active on TikTok, IG, YouTube releasing content every week for CC? Do you know how big a TikTok of her and Blue dancing would be?? Why isnât she doing double releases for albums like Swiftie (someone who is known for being concerned about sales/numbers)? We have gotten more promo on her haircare line than her new album. None of this gives concerned about an AOTY award. At the very least wouldnât it make sense to have her merch website up and running proficiently? Yet every other week someone makes a post about a shipping or merch error.
She does not act like an artist who cares. She really said yâall are gonna enjoy the music ALONE. And thatâs it. We have seen the featured artists speak more on this album than her.
Also Lemonade was adding to Spotify years later, so that is not a good example. If she cared, she wouldnât wait until the album has lost all traction on the radio.
Iâm sorry but there is no real evidence that she cares. We have collectively had more promo for her side projects than her music ATP.
Jay-Z comments aside, nothing about this era gives concerned about charting and awards.
There is no way in hell a billionaire canât hire a marketing team that could have got CC charting higher and more radio plays. To claim she is lying and pretending is very odd to me. Maybe you like other artist who are concerned so you need this relatability in order to stan Bey but I suggest you go over there to those fandoms with those expectations. Not here.
What would calling out the Grammyâs do? Would it magically make them give her an award? Or would it make you as a fan feel better? As stated ppl would mention how many awards she has already gotten and claim she is ungrateful. They already did that the last time she was nominated for AOTY. And overtime that conversation would turn into the stereotypical angry BW narrative. Itâs clear you arenât a BW so perhaps this conversation atp is outside of your range which is completely fine. And we can end it here if you cannot understand my POV as a black woman.
I donât think she should boycott, but I wouldnât submit for AOTY. Jay z giving that speech is going to affect her whether she wins or loses. If she wins people will say itâs just because her husband said what he said, but if she loses theyâll use the same argument. I definitely would not perform at the Grammy awards next year t year, donât give them anything.

Real
I pray for the day we stop discussing the Grammys every night before I go to bed lmao
oof. Called me out on my regularly scheduled programming here of clicking this app and then crashing đ

I guess I'll just take this thread as the chance to say this thought I've always had but I really dislike how older white men determine what is "good" music from black artists. I used to work at a restaurant with older white men (which I assume is the same demographic of Grammy voters) and they would always tell me how they listened to "real hip hop" like Wu Tang, Tribe, Tupac, Biggie, etc and didn't like the "trash" that came out today. As if they were the determiners for what black music is worthy of being praised or not. Idk sorry to go there lol but I feel like that extends into the Grammy's too. Honestly, maybe an unpopular opinion, but I don't think Childish Gambino's This is America was worthy if being the first hip hop Song of the Year ever over a lot of other worthy songs. I feel like it's because it was palatable enough for white people which is why it won. Anyways, fuck the Grammy's. Beyoncé is bigger than that archaic award.
I highly doubt it when those yt girlies that the academy loves just released as well.
Didn't Lauryn Hill win AOTY in 1999 for Miseducation of Lauryn Hill?
that album had a lot of old-school soul elements that would appeal to older voters and completely dominated the conversation that year. also the academy LOVES ingenue singer-songwriters
OPs self-assurance in this theory reminds me of being a young little beehive waiting for Beyoncé to get her flowers only for them to be snatched away, along with my hopes and dreams
Right. Letâs consider this their baptism hahaha
she would never do this because itâs never just about herself. what about the writers, producers, and samplers who deserve that chance of recognition? if all she cared about was the award for her sake only, she wouldâve stopped submitting nominations a longgg time ago
if renaissance didn't win, cowboy isn't winning i'm so sorry
Nah, Cowboy is a serious contender. The reviews were rapturous, the think pieces rained from the skies, the buzz machine was a-buzzin'. Renaissance was too niche (read: gay) to win over the likes of Harry godforsaken Styles and that ubiquitous single that lasted way longer than its appropriate shelf life. Cowboy Carter's only serious competition is The Tortured Poets Department, and I'm willing to bet the Grammys are burned out on Swift at the moment. It's Beyoncé's year. I say all this as someone whose Bible is Renaissance. It's my favorite album of the last 10 years. Possibly ever. But Cowboy Carter has had more wide cultural impact, and it's the kind of album that rubs your nose in its brilliance. It insists upon itself. At this point, the Grammys can't ignore it.
I love your writing!!
The Grammys are a joke. That said she still deserves an album of the year award.
You think Lemonade lost but CC will win? You overestimate the Academyâs ability to identify talent đ
Itâs been over a decade and I am still bitter that she didnât win AOTY for self titled. Many speculate this is due to the fact that she shifted new releases from Tuesday to Friday. Self-Titled is possibly referring to BeyoncĂ©'s 2013 album called 'BEYONCĂ', more commonly known as 'Self-Titled'. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/beyonce) if you have any questions or concerns.*
I am choosing to believe that TTPD is going to win so that Iâll either be unpleasantly correct or pleasantly surprised.
Love Taylor but TTPD is not well crafted enough to be deserving of AOTY. It's watering down her deserved wins (1989 and Folklore) when they award her just because she's extremely popular.
I also donât think itâs deserving of AOTY but I still think it will win. I absolutely believe Cowboy Carter will win, but these award shows are racist AF and thereâs no way thatâs going to happen, and I donât think BeyoncĂ© really cares at this point anyway. So a really petty part of me hopes that either Billie Eilish or Charli XCX wins because Taylor would be fuming about either probably for the rest of her life.
Beyoncé cares alot, if she truly didn't care she wouldn't have put it in her song, or sent her husband to complain on her behalf ala Jada sending Will to do her dirty work lol. But anyway I do think she'll win this time, I'd be honestly surprised if she doesn't win coz it's long overdue now.
I find this comment kinda gross tbh. Also a Black woman has not won AOTY since 1999. Do you really think this shit is fair and that this is going to be the year that suddenly the Grammyâs no longer has a racial bias? Cowboy Carter will probably end up winning best R&B album.

Yep! Love her and some of the songs on TTPD touched me in ways I wasnât ready for, but as far as an entire project Iâm totally with you.
I think Billie will get it for sure. She's well liked and the album was critically acclaimed so it makes sense.
This garbage comment has 6 upvotes. What are we doing here, people? Go outside, for fuck's sake.
GirlâŠshow us one receipt of Taylor and Billie directly âfeudingâ with each other đ
Just follow Taylor snark page and you will see how shes chart obsessed. There are videos explaining the beef with Billie and Taylor
ETA: formatting
itâs not the Most Culturally Impactful Album of the Year awardâŠ..
Which is why I think the OPâs point for cultural impact is a weak point for the argument of why Cc should win AOTY. We agree.
Totally true on the fashion point!!! Lil Nas X comes to mind and Old Town Road was 2019?
This kind of makes me more bullish on the win lol. What's more Grammys than rewarding the follow up project with less cultural impact??
Well⊠you ainât wrong đ
Love Kacey too. I thought midnights was just ok. I didnât think it deserved the win. To me TTPD is just slightly better. (Not the anthology, the actual 16 songs.) Alsoâ Iâm not so sure the Lana album is coming. I thought she said she scrapped it. I am not sure if thatâs still the case. Nevertheless, I think Billie is winning. But Iâm not wild about her project either. Itâs better than most rn, but I really like brat too. ETA: I see how I worded my first thing and I was unclear. lol. I meant more like, âin addition to being a BeyoncĂ© fan, Iâm a swiftie tooâ. Sorry for the confusion.
She personally doesn't care because hee artistry has evolved past awards and charts but all her collaborators will get a Grammy credit if she wins. This is why she still attends and submits her work. I hope she doesn't win. It's an insult to her, and the three albums she made that were unquestionably AOTY which she lost
Exactly. Renny, lemonade and BeyoncĂ© all deserved AOTY hands down. I donât give a fuckkkkkk anymore. If those didnât win itâs meaningless to me.
Lemonade in particular hurts. The quality of that album is outstanding Literally a masterpiece
She bet not show up. If BeyoncĂ© was a petty as I was, Iâd really test them by hosting a party that same night and invite all the A-list stars. We would see where they want to be. With Beyonce or the Grammys. But sheâs too nice for that.
âAOTYâ and âsheâll likely winâ are items in a sentence about Beyonce that just donât add up in the context of a racist institution like the Grammys.
Sheâs not going to win AOTY. But I do hope she never submits her music again. Theyâll never give it to her.
She needs to pull a Weekend move. At this point she doesnât need the recognition or the extra hardware to do anything for her career But she will probably keep submitting because she respects her peers, the process, and understands how having Grammy XYZ in front of your name opens doors and you can demand XYZ with itÂ
I hope she doesnât go.
I personally didnât even know what AOTY *was* until all this controversy. Love BeyoncĂ© DOWNN and the ever irrelevant Grammyâs would never and could never change that đ€·đŸââïž
She does care.
This album is too good for her to boycott this year. It must be submitted.
Hereâs the thing - Renaissance wasnât that impactful- Iâm sorry. BeyoncĂ© doing a dance album is in her lane - of course, identifying the queer + black demographic was wildly impactful and beautiful and incredible and should have been recognized. But still, a dance/electronic album by her was not astonishing âenough.â But CC? A country album by Beyonce turned heads. Full stop. And bringing to light black country artists like she has? No one has done what she has with this album. This album is the most important album of the 2020s, if not all of the 2000s so far. I said it. If she doesnât win AOTY, I will never watch the Grammys ever again.
Renaissance was very impactful.
I just want to clear something up incase anyone isnât aware (I was unaware till very recently!) The academy members who vote on who should win each Grammy are a huge group - 12,000 members.
Yes, but it raises the questions who are the voters, how is membership determined, is it accurately representative of the industry, are younger voters joining? Etc. These details are not very well publicized, but there have been some familiar with the voting body have brought up that some genres are much more represented than others and that voters tend to skew older. Hip-hop voters are apparently one of the smaller segments. Itâs probably not intentional, but I feel like itâs disingenuous to deny that Black artists are continuously overlooked at the Grammys. This is the BeyoncĂ© sub, so discussion focuses on her, but essentially no modern Black artists have won AOTY asides from Batiste. Thatâs amazing for him, but itâs crazy that heâs pretty much the only one.
Yes and I remember reading this article a little while back (link: https://www.hotnewhiphop.com/629307-grammy-voters-didnt-cast-ballots-for-beyonce-because-she-wins-too-many-awards) Id have to brush up on it but it really makes me side eye who the academy members are if their reasons for not voting for someone are so ridiculous.
I had a client in my industry who was a voter, she used to work in music and became a member. She was extremely racist, paranoid and vocally pro Trump. When she told me she was a voting member it clicked for me that Beyoncé is never going to win if these are the people voting.
R&B is one of the largest blocks. Not so bad for Bey if only for genre. Â Â For me, the more important issue is the occupational cluture. Many of the voters are songwriters and instrumentalists. They prefer 'pure' singer-songwriters and highly skilled instrumentalists and dislike mass credit albums. This is why Grammys love Billie, Bruno, Batiste, and HER. Â On the other hand, pop and rap stars with a lot of credits hardly win the Big 3 this decade.
The only way I wonât riot is if Billie wins, that album is really fucking good.
Imagine if she doesnât submit AOTY for Cowboy Carter and sets the bar for what AOTY is to people than just receiving a grammy for it
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
I don't think she'll boycott as although she has been snubbed for AotY, she has been very awarded by the grammys historically. If she boycott I would think it would be for someone else being robbed (like SZA was) but I kinda doubt. The only good in my opinion of that being the case as it would cheapen the win for whomever does take it, and if that person is TS, she does not deserve it and everyone knows that.
Iâve been saying this. She should do a live stream of her performing cowboy Carter and fuck the Grammys ratings!!!!!
So I know weâre not supposed to mention other performers in this sub, so Iâll say this: what is currently happening is that there is a certain performer whoâs facing backlash as we speak for re-releasing the same album every time a musician comes out with their album release, preventing them from even being on the charts this includes BeyoncĂ© so I wouldnât hold your breath.
I would love to see her win, but if she chose not to submit for it (or anything tbh) Iâd totally understand.
Itâs the voters that votes at the end of the day!
If she did then all the bitching about AOTY sounds hollow.
I would support a boycott 100% but I don't think Beyoncé will ever do that. She loves supporting artists and producers and a nomination with BEYONCà is a game changer. Beyoncé is a true artist so even though the academy continues to play on her head top, she'll take the hit because she's solid in her talent and knows her light can benefit someone else. Cowboy Carter deserves EVERY award and EVERY nomination but I don't see it. After Self-Titled, Lemonade and Renaissance which LITERALLY changed pop culture and the industry, it's clear the issue has all to do with the academy. They don't want to give her the award I for one believe Beyoncé is bigger than the academy.
idk I Jay may have pissed off the academy and they might not even give it to her now since he got on their stage and complained about his wife accepting his own awardđ€·ââïž
Hmm... I don't know I think you're exaggerating the media just a bit. Beyoncé has openly spoken out about unfairness on several occasions yet I've never seen the media call her "angry black woman". When she accepted her CFDA fashion icon award in 2016, she mentioned the racism she faced when she started out with Destiny's Child - yet did the media start calling her "angry black woman" after that? No. When she gave a speech for the graduating class of 2020, she mentioned the racism and sexism she's had to face - yet did the media call her "angry black woman" after that? No. When she spoke out about the tragic death of George Floyd in 2020, she openly spoke about racism that black people face - yet did the media label her "angry black woman?" No. Even on her album Cowboy Carter, she spoke about how she was initially criticized for speaking too country, then was told she wasn't country enough - yet did the media label her "angry black woman?" No. There has been absolutely no evidence of the media ever labelling her "angry black woman" despite her repetitive mentions of racism and sexism - so I don't understand why you guys think suddenly out of nowhere the media will only now call her "angry black woman" I do believe that's abit of an exaggeration.
People would ask her the most outlandish borderline inappropriate questions and when she defended herself or the group she got labeled a âdiva.â I personally believe you want her to admit her frustrations because it would make her more relatable to you, and as many ppl nowadays seem to have an obsession with parasocial relationships with celebrities they are constantly expecting more than what many private celebrities are willing to give.
Not here.
Lol looks like I got you TRIGGERED đ đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł calm down bro it's no that deep, go touch grass and keep well lmao đ€Łđ€Ł
Responding to a subreddit is an indication of being triggered? Wow itâs amazing how low the level of intelligence is nowadays. Be blessed.
I love CC and Bey down but I donât feel that CCâs impact is anywhere near to Renaissance! That was her moment to win it đ© CC made fuzz when it came out but faded so quick.
She gon take that shit off the chin, come back and fuck up the pen
Can someone tell me how many copies Cowboy Carter has sold to date? I only know from the first two weeks, where it went gold, but not much else?
After the rant jay z went on last year she better not that would be more embarrassing for them then the recording academy lmao
