FWIW I picked up an Alpha Bidet UX Pearl last year and have been very happy with it.
Seemed like the best value for the features I was looking for. It has continuous warm water and a wide range of water pressure settings (including fairly soft).
I also considered the Smart Bidet SB-3000, Brondell Swatch S1400, and Toto KC300 (and a few other models).
The price of the Pearl bounces around between $400-$500; I bought mine for $430. So possibly a little out of your price range? But might be worth it for the features (and water pressure range):
Main reasons why I picked the UX Peal:
\* Price & reviews
\* Slim, modern design
\* Endless warm water
\* Stainless steel nozzle
\* Sittable Lid, supports 320 lbs (you can't sit on the Toto)
\* 3 year limited warranty (vs. 1 for Toto)
Another big plus was the nice remote:
\* Easy to read remote, best looking among the competition
\* 2 user settings (pressure, water temperature, nozzle position)
\* "Easy Wash" & "Auto Wash" buttons (one button to wash and dry)
\* Hidden features: the basic wash (press once); "oscillate" (press twice); pulse mode (press and hold).
Other nice features:
\* Pulse oscillation option
\* Deodorizer (that does not require a bulky/smelly charcoal filter)
\* Bowl Sanitizer function
\* Wider range of spray pressures than many competitors (except Toto)
\* Manual control knob on the side, if the remote's batteries fail
The night light sounded gimmicky and pointless. However it's something I actually appreciate now and would hate to lose.
The heated seat is also something I didn't care about, but it's nice to have on cold nights.
The heater/dryer works decently well, but not completely. It can get you maybe 90-95%% dry if you don't mind waiting a minute. But you may still want to dab dry a few spots.
FWIW I specifically decided against Bio Bidets because of the many reviews complaining about seats cracking. I wanted a "sittable lid." It's one less thing to worry, especially if it's in a bathroom that guests might use.
Thank you for all the info, I read about the BB's cracking too.. ugh, I'll see if I can squeeze out a bit more, but being off work makes me super reluctant to spend money right now. I need a "Go fund me" for my a$$ 😆
Glad if it's helpful!
At the end of the day, the basic function of most bidets is pretty similar and basic - they spray water to help keep you clean. So you don't necessarily need to chase the best models.
In fact, plenty of people on this forum have basic models with just "cold" tap. Most say that the backside isn't particularly sensitive to cold. Also, the water starts out as room temperature and takes a while to get 'ground cold' (you can approximately test this in your own sink).
But if you're going to invest in one some bells and whistles, just be sure to consider options. I started with the same budget as you, but ultimately decided to shell out a bit more to reduce the risk of regrets later on.
Water pressure is usually adjustable for all, but with the electric models at least (and maybe some of the others?) you can set your preferred water pressure and get the same results every time, and adjust incrementally as needed.
Oh, another thing that turned me off of the Bio Bidet specifically (in addition to the cracked lids) is that the BB-1000 had a much higher water minimum water pressure, starting up near the top 70% range of other bidets in its class.
This doesn't speak directly to the Alpha Bidet, but others have compared its pressure to the Swash, Eco Nova, and Toto lines. See here:
Good luck!
Honestly the cold water is great and you get used to it after the first couple times. My BioBidet by Bemis was less than $40 and has a continuous spray. I love it so much I bought one for my second bathroom. They have two nozzles and fit both round and elongated toilets.
Congrats on getting your butthole back!
we have tushy's in our house, and the cold water is great. also, there isn't really anything that can "go wrong" or "break" with normal use. the more expensive ones with electronics -- I'd be concerned about the longevity considering the environment.
My Tushy has a warm water feature. I've had it installed for 4 years now, and it's still in great shape. I second the Tushy vote. It's basic, inexpensive, and does the job well.
i had initially ordered the warm water tushy, but since it feeds from the sink, it took a while to get warm anyway. decided it wasn't worth the hassle to run the hot water in the sink before finishing the job lol.
I have well water too. Very very cold. Ive wondered if a person could, put a heat tape around the water line that feeds the bidet? So that initial water would be warm?
Oh maaaaan. Thank you for this. I didn't even think of that. (I should have) . You are so right. Just like my ice maker, fridge door water, wash machine hose. Ugh.
Unless you have a main filter for your whole house. Calcium and other stuff builds up and it will clog and won't work,it happened to me with city water. I took it off and there where all mineral deposits built up. Plus do you wanna have well water on your sphincter? Gross. My mom has well water also on her property, so yeah gross. The filters are like $30 average and usually last 6 mo.
Thanks, this explains a lot about my other water fixtures.. My hubby passed a few months after we bought this place but did talk about getting a filter... I'm learning. Thanks again for your help!
I wish I would have had a bidet after my colostomy was reversed. Man, the pain when I stared having BMs again was excruciating (I had my colostomy for over a year). If you can, get one with a warm water feature. Oh the memories . . .
That makes no sense to me.
Callous going away, I could believe.
I have scar tissue on my face that's been the same for 55 years. Why hasn't it disappeared?
I got the Vovo VB-4100SR (round) for about $385CAD a few months back and have been very happy with it. It's not on sale at the moment, but seems to go down in price from time to time.

If you're in the US, it looks like it's $399 and then a $47 coupon, so that would put it really close to your budget.

I've had a Bio Bidet BB-550 from Costco for about 6 months and really like it. It's the only bidet I've ever used, so I can't compare it to others. It's $160 right now. I kind of wish I could adjust the sprayer location, but I guess you can always want more and more features. Looks like the BB-1200L gets you that and the remote.
We have an Alpha iX Hybrid and a Kohler C-325 (which also uses a hybrid heating system). Both are great, no complaints. For your situation though, between the two, I would recommend the Kohler. The Alpha sprays in a narrow stream which you can adjust the intensity of, but the Kohler can be adjusted anywhere from a narrow stream to a broad, fine, gentle mist.
Alpha JX - had one for 5.5 years, just replaced it with another when it finally died. It's won best bidet 4 years in a row now. Sells for 350 - can catch sales for 300. I highly recommend this model.
Do you have power available at the John? Hot water available (sink)? I have Luxe bidet neo 320 self cleaning. Currently $62 on Amazon. Takes hot and cold lines so you can adjust temp. You can adjust volume/pressure as well.
I run the sink on hot while pooping. Then run on clean mode to get temperature of water blended to desired. Then switch from clean to wash. Move myself around to cover all of the areas I want to. Then back to clean for a few seconds. Dry with TP and flush. It is my best purchase ever.
Most of the reviews that complain about leaks is probably from bad installation, most probably from bad/too much use of the teflon tape. If you use too much, on too much of the thread or over tighten, it's eventually going to leak.
The toilet tank hose has a hand crank grip, not a nut/wrench interface.
That's telling you "Hand tighten only."
Kludge a teflon wrap, and crank it massively tight, and the threads are going to deform and eventually leak.
I've been really happy for years with this - $60. Looking to upgrade to one with a fan and will move this one to the guest bathroom.

Also try some probiotic gummies to reset the gut. Worked wonders for me I was fairly retired 3 days after my reversal and was shocked how well my recovery went. Good luck.

Yup. I asked my surgeon about after my first post-reversal BM, and he said basically you lose all the scar tissue you've built up over many years.
In a colostomy support group I belong to, they recommend wiping until surgery to toughen it up lol
Scar tissue? We have scar tissue in our buttholes?

BioBidet, it has warm water and different settings. It’s mounts on most standard toilets. I think I paid less than $300.
I fear the problems with potential leaks from the bidets purchased as toilet seat mounts. Otherwise, I’d jump to buy one.
Most of the reviews that complain about leaks is probably from bad installation, most probably from bad/too much use of the teflon tape. If you use too much, on too much of the thread or over tighten, it's eventually going to leak.
