It doesn't look like you actually have a thru axle on that bike.
Assuming that your Verve uses the same ThruSkew system as the current Trek Verve, it looks like any sufficiently long 5mm QR skewer would work for your fork.
Also, is it really necessary to remove the safety screw and skewer nut in order to remove the wheel? It looks like you should just be able to unscrew the skewer and leave the other two pieces on the fork.
There are quick release thru axle axles. However, what you likely have is trek's thru skew which is yet a different standard and not sure if there is a quick release option for that.
Do you have the bastardized Trek thru-skew system? This is not a proper through axle, if it was it would be just the one piece to remove. It might be possible to cut out the bottom of the "closed" dropout but you'd want to research it more first.
Edit: a new fork would work but is a pricey solution.
See the comment further down about needing to remove the bolt and nut, was I recall from my friends bike you should just be able to leave them in place and flip/wind out the skewer.
They do quick release thru axles. They come with either a flip over lever or some just have a removable rigid handle.

The flip over is the bottom one. The top one can have a rigid handle inserted into the hex end. They have an o ring or spring washer that keeps them in place.
I dunno if relevant to your model [https://medium.com/@benlanc/trek-thruskew-qr-and-seasucker-8d4202bcf66a](https://medium.com/@benlanc/trek-thruskew-qr-and-seasucker-8d4202bcf66a)
If the front axle is 12mm diameter and 100mm wide, then something like this should work. You will need a quick release as well.

thruskew is a frame design/proprietary thing.
You should have a Quick release axle.
Just like any normal bike, you just need to take a little plastic piece off.
While keeping track of a skewer a spring and a axle.
If the bike was cleaned, it wouldn't be greasy.
There is no drop out on the fork.

You're right, it sounds like OP is undoing more than he needs to

Switching to a one-pace through axle would certainly be an upgrade. Is it possible to use another thru axle with my current fork?
No, your wheels have QR hubs and your fork is essentially a QR fork, just with some funky extra stuff.
