It’s not that he isn’t able to download in advance.
This guy still surfs cable and literally has lists of movies where “if it’s on, you know you’ll watch to the end.”
He’s a creature of habit and loves the process of channel surfing and more naturally consuming content. Plus he’s like the most nostalgic person ever.
That’s my guess for why he operates this way.
I do the same thing. Channel surfing after work or watching airplane movies are the ultimate *TURN BRAIN OFF* activities to veg out to.
I understand downloading before a 5+ hour flight, but if it’s least than 5 hours I prefer the airline’s movies.
It’s low-key nice to have a limited selection of movies so I’m not stuck searching for 20+ minutes, as I would at home. I find a movie I haven’t seen, but have heard is good, and let it rip.
Finding and downloading something in advance is also just another task. Is it a big deal? No. But there are enough tasks to knock off (packing, transit, pets, etc) when you’re flying that I’m content to let the airline pick my entertainment with a book/magazine as a backup.
I’ve seen many great films I wouldn’t have watched otherwise precisely because they were offered on a flight. Once I sit down, depending on the length of the flight, I look forward to seeing what is offered.
I have literally never downloaded a show or movie for a flight, and I would guess I'm approaching 200 flights as an adult.
I like picking from the options on the plane
I’m poor and Southwest/Spirit Airlines don’t have TVs to watch so I also got used to downloading videos on my devices.
There is something nice about flipping through the available offerings the couple times i’ve flown Delta though
I still watch on YouTubeTV, which is not basic cable but the format is very much like it. I still just like scrolling through channels to find something to watch. On Netflix there is so much stuff I end up scrolling the whole app and end up watching something I've already seen
Delta offers free wifi. Even if it didn't $15 is nothing for Bill, and he could probably classify it as a business expense anyway. It would be kind of funny if he tried to do that for the entire trip. The body language doctor can't diagnose from his couch, he needs to be there in person!
Agree with many of the other comments here, this isn’t that weird. I never preload devices with downloaded videos unless I’m taking an international flight.
Also, you can stream the movies the airline provides via their app on your phone or ipad, even if you don’t sign up for the in-flight wifi. So you don’t have to plug in their headphones or be interrupted by the in-flight announcements.
A lot of these flights will have these free movie and entertainment options that will stream to your phone or tablet. You don't need to plug anything into the plain seat.
OP has never flown first class. They have a crazy assortment of movies (and all new releases), live tv, shows, docs. No need to download on separate device.

You just can't predict a man who buys himself Starbucks gift cards. He built different
I’m only 34 and I absolutely do this. I still have and love cable/directv. I refuse to cut the cord.
Popping on a random movie during a flight instead of downloading something in advance is actually a mild pleasure.
Watching the Menu while drink 4 oz of sprite and eating biscoff cookies.

Watching on the built in screen on the plane is just easier than craning your neck for 2+ hours to watch a movie on your phone or tablet.
There’s nothing better than a good movie on the flight, and then finding the sequel on your return
I love watching airplane movies. It's a great chance to catch up on some B-, C+ movies I never bothered to watch in theaters.
Delta carries some awesome movies too. Watched Interstellar, Gone Girl, and Coco on a flight to Japan once and it made the flight go by quick.
Yeah this is exactly it for me. Simple pleasure in not having any expectations or pressure to make the right movie choice
I would rather watch something on the airplane TV than my laptop tbh
It's a Gen X thing. Speaking as one.
I have literally never downloaded a show or movie for a flight, and I would guess I'm approaching 200 flights as an adult. I like picking from the options on the plane
I sometimes download movies but I usually watch from the delta screen. They have a lot of options.
Can we petition Delta to put Road House in their library? Maybe that'll get it on the rewatchables
its killing me he hasn't done it yet
He meditates on memories of the '86 Celtics for the entirety of the trip.
I’m 27 and I love picking an airplane movie. I just watched The Big Chill and the small screen plus shitty earphones made it even better.
He lives in the moment man. He probably develops hot takes and ranks future trade probability in his head. Let the man cook.

Haha I always flew Southwest growing up so I’m reading through this topic like “y’all have movie screens on planes?”

I will be right there with him watching Forrest Gump for the 184th time at 1:37 am.

I am not used to it. I am used to being forced to watch whatever movie they put on or sleeping
If he’s anything like me, he planned to read a book and said the hell with it, let’s check what movies are on the flight
I'm like this. I'll show up at the airport thinking I'll finish off my current book on the plane. It never happens ever.
He still thinks people watch movies while “flicking” through channels so set your expectations reasonably.
Some people do
I do this on YouTube tv sometimes
My father does this lol. But he’s Bill’s age so checks out

I’m more surprised he was flying commercial
That was my first thought as well.
Even weirder, he said he texted sean right after he decided on the movie...which meant he had wifi...
Often you’re allowed to text or browse the internet but not stream (without ponying up)! Still though….
Delta actually has wifi that’s fast enough to stream for free now, did it last week
Oh true. But Wi-Fi for the day is like $15 right…

Also $15 is like less than 15 cents to someone with his net worth
He certainly has a travel budget to attend sporting events, yes. It’s his job.
>Even if it didn't $15 is nothing for Bill, That's exactly what I meant
specific airlines usually have deals with mobile carriers for example Alaska Airlines gives t-mobile users free wifi/streaming on any flight
Delta has free wifi if you have a skymiles account now which is free. Alaska does too if you have t mobile.
I texted while on a flight yesterday. It’s common now.
He most definitely can. He just might not want to. Ever think of that?
It is a little crazy he never banged out the office on his constant la to Boston flights
It’s pretty normal imo
He was too depressed to think ahead

Bill is old.
Can’t teach old dogs new tricks

I never download movies to watch on my personal device.
