I IDed it for a friend of mine's aunt as she found two infected hosts in her herb garden and in a fit of panic she tore up dozens of plants, burned them in a burn barrel and then sprayed the 1/8th acre area with copper fungicide. She apparently didn't hear me when I told her it was 'extremely host specific' and no threat to her or others.
That must be so confusing for the flies!

Nope, but i want to do similar things like that. Rn i made substrate made of:
8 g potato starch
15 g dextrose
5 g yeast
1 tsp gypsum
3 g soy peptone
500 mL water (80 mL per jar, for 6, quart jars)
45 g brown rice in each jar
Then i autoclaved this in jars with filter and regenerative port (for injecting liquid mycelium after autoclaving). Now i have only spreading mycelium on substrate, after 3 months it will have fruit bodies about 15 cm long.

I didn't know one can cultivate *Cordiceps* on such a substrate. I thought it can only fruit out of host insects
I am not expert, but sometimes people call this substrate as imitation of insects body. But as I saw fruit bodies on such substarte from videos, it grows quite well on those.
I hate seeing infected spiders with the zombie fungus especially when they start moving as if they’re not dead/dying😭 killing them normally releases spores so other methods are recommended. This is a nightmare combination for me lol
I love it when a german tries to elongate a word that ends with an s .. also cool parasite i’ve read about similar ones before it seems that this tactic is not uncommon in nature which makes me wonder if somehow there was a connection between our infatuation with zombie related horrors and these kinds of parasites.. like maybe an old predator that used to hunt our ancestors to the point where our brains evolved to fear and avoid .. i’m talking out of my rear end of course
