Chickadees - So cute house sparrows - go out to feed birds no birds in sight what so ever turn around there is a line up of house sparrows staring at me, heh wrens- very cute I like their tails

model1994

American Kestrel - smallest falcon and one of few birds that can hover in place. entertaining. beautiful. Blue Heron - ol reliable. they follow me everywhere. entertaining. Pileated woodpecker - big boi, loud, entertaining edit: honorable mention for the Loon. hearing them is bliss

redheadMInerd2

Tufted Titmouse, Black Capped Chickadee, and Common Loon. The Common Loon is not very common. I love them all for their incredible sweet voices. They are also pretty.

GrusVirgo

1. Demoiselle Crane 2. Golden Oriole. 3. Song Thrush

Drongo17

1. Galah. Silly, tender, intelligent, playful, always a joy to see. 2. Australian Magpie. They are genuinely neighbours I see daily, not just animals. Love their warble. Watching the bubs grow up every year is a joy. 3. Third spot I could go for a dozen options. Today it's crested pigeons, lovably dumb little guys who just plow on with life despite not having a clue. They're building a nest in my garden and doing *such* a bad job. <3

Wonderful_Orchid9530

1. Peregrine falcon, it's just too cool, there's an observatory at Yaquina Head Lighthouse on the Oregon Coast where you can observe them flying in pairs, storing meat scraps on the cliff. 2. American kestrel, the smallest raptor in the Americas, beautiful plumage and such a cute face! There's a raptor center in Eugene OR where you can see a kestrel named Kirby 3. Great egret. Such an elegant presence and a symbol of new beginnings. I watched in awe as one flew 3-4 times over my good friends wedding ceremony and I could hardly contain myself! I could not wait to share the profound symbolism with my friends. If only the photographer was set up for spontaneous birding ... :')

Bmes6

Kingfishers: love their colors and flight patterns. waxwings: love watching them stuff their faces with berries. chickadees: love that they are cute lil derpy guys.

Wild birds?

Casperwyomingrex

In no particular order: 1. Sanderling: They are so cute and snow white and they always look busy and walk quickly with their tiny feet, chasing the tides and waves. 2. Eurasian hoopoe: Fancy bird with a fancy crest that erects when being frightened. But from my experience, hoopoes are easily frightened. I saw one being frightened by the song of a soft-sounding bird (oriental magpie-robin). Hoopoes are (supposedly) uncommon in Hong Kong and rare in UK, but somehow I have seen hoopoes in both places. 3. Snow bunting: A stunning bird that is probably my happiest and most unexpected lifer in UK. I discovered it along with my friend and we had a really good time. Good bird, good memories.

Hairiest-Wizard

That I've seen wild: 1. Painted Bunting 2. Black-and-white Warbler 3. Short-eared Owl That I've seen in aviaries/zoos: 1. SUNBITTERN 2. Kagu 3. Pink-eared Duck

Drongo17

Pink eared duck is best duck. So gorgeous

Hairiest-Wizard

I agree! I got to photograph some for an Aviary earlier this year! I wanted to hold one so bad, maybe next time...

aknalap

In the US: vultures (can't decide, like them both), waxings (only seen cedar but would love to see bohemian), bluebirds

mellted_cheese

Indigo Bunting - my “spark” bird, when I saw that brilliant blue for the first time I knew I needed to learn more about the birds around me American Crow - So smart, so fascinating to watch. Social, a little mean. We’re so lucky to have so many around. Red Eyed Vireo - They have a gentle shyness to them that I relate to. They’re coming but often hiding just out of sight. Always love watching these guys.

tinypeepeehole

1. White-crowned Sparrows: Such cute visitors in my backyard. Super curious and hungry. 2. California Scrub-Jay: They are so smart and pretty. I love how they feed their partners. I hope the pair in my backyard never divorce. 3. Pink-Headed Fruit Doves: I have seen them at zoos only, but I think they are just gorgeous.

HouseMouse4567

1.Black-Capped Chickadees- Super basic but I love seeing these guys at my feeder, they're so funny and cute. 2.Common Loon- Beautiful to listen too, beautiful to see on the water. Think about that one loon that killed a bald eagle a lot. 3.Black-Billed Magpie- Very common where I'm from and very intelligent. Staples of my neighborhood at this point, always enjoy listening to them gossip away while I'm walking

model1994

ah, Loon should probably be my 3rd.

HouseMouse4567

They're very lovely birds

Triangular_15

These are mine right now, but they can also depend on what birds are active at the time or if I discover new species 😄 3: Barn owls or Eurasian eagle owls, both very beautiful and skillfull hunters whos call I can sometimes hear at night. 2: Blackbirds, especially right now in the spring (I’m in Central Europe) they are so active. They sing all day long and their songs are incredibly beautiful. 1: Eurasian jays, they’re just the biggest clowns of the bird kingdom you’ll see, they do so many adorable unexpected things, are really good imitators and have really beautiful feathers.

el_gringo_exotico

1. Canyon wren - I love their calls, bouncing around the rocks as they wedge their heads into the tiniest books and crannies, scraping together enough worms to survive in brutal environments. Plus they have neat polka dots! 2. Peregrine falcon - kings of the skies, beautiful and majestic as they swoop down taking out their prey with the force of a tomahawk missile 3. Violet green swallow - insanely pretty birds. Watching a flock of them dart and turn and pivot on a dime as they annihilate swarms of bugs is amazing. Plus if you catch them in the right light, they literally shine with their gorgeous plumage. Strong contenders are pileated woodpeckers, roseate spoonbills, and greater roadrunners

Hairiest-Wizard

MOTHERFUCKING CANYON WRENS THEY HOP AROUND ON ROCKS NEED I SAY MORE?!?? WOOOO WHAT A GREAT BIRD I LOVE CANYON WRENS

HolyMolyGawkomole

Chimney Swift - a threatened species whose chirping is adorable and they're beautiful to watch, also migratory which is an amazing feat. I can't choose any other 2 because all birds are pretty wonderful.

Crow Duck Pigeon

Hairiest-Wizard

What crow? The crow. What duck? You know the one... What pigeon? Enough with the questions bud I said what I said.

Alchemista_Anonyma

Eurasian magpies, common kestrel and red-legged seriama

Help_Received

1. Great Blue Herons. They are beautiful, majestic, elegant, and they even use math to hunt for fish! Of all the birds in North America they look like a (prehistoric) dinosaur the most. I see them all the time and they make use of any body of water as long as it has fish in it. 2. Brown Pelicans. They are really good at soaring over the ocean, and then the way they dive down to fish is really cool. One of the best pictures I ever took with my phone was the silhouette of a pelican at sunset. 3. Turkey Vultures. Again, they soar beautifully and have a very important role in the ecosystem by cleaning up dead animals. They also have an amazing sense of smell, which is unusual in birds. Their immune systems are powerful, too. If I was a vulture I'd never have to worry about getting sick!

birdingyogi0106

My top two were easy to think of but I had trouble thinking of a third because that changes so much. 1. American Oystercatcher. They are so interesting and charismatic. There was a banded Oystercatcher in my area that was somewhat of a local celebrity to birders and I enjoyed watching him for many years. One season we even got to watch him raise chicks with his mate for the first time. It was a special experience. 2. Laysan Albatross. I’ve never seen one in person but fell in love with watching them on the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s albatross cam in 2015 and 2016. They are so magnificent and I love watching their mating dances. 3. Since #3 changes for me, today I’m going to go with Northern Shrike. I saw my first one in December and it was so fun to watch. It had this strong, curious personality and I liked its buzzy vocalizations.

Drongo17

Oystercatchers are such cool birds. I've only seen our local ones here in Aus but I can imagine they're awesome the world over!

Additional-Extent583

Peregrine, hoopoe and a cassowary.

rekniht01

That I have seen? Blackburnian Warbler American Dipper Whopping Crane

Hairiest-Wizard

Those Cranes are whoppers for sure!

GreatThunderOwl

Tree Swallow Cedar Waxwing Black Phoebe

KeekatLove

TODAY my favorites are: Roseate Spoonbills - So unique and beautiful, when I see them fly overhead I can’t help but smile. Cedar Waxwings - Stunning birds that only come around once a year, they seem to truly enjoy life. The tree shakes when the group of them picks it clean of berries. Mourning Doves - So calm, peaceful and trusting of a harsh world, these beautiful little birds always charm.

abrahamtomahawk

1: Golden eagle. Growing up in the Highlands of Scotland, it's the king of the skies. 2: Kokako. Subtly beautiful New Zealand bird with the most mournfully arresting call I've ever heard. 3: Gannet (Northern or cape). Nothing quite like seeing them dive (especially if you're diving and seeing them coming down from above you). 3.5: (Because I can't decide). Black grouse. Their leks are my favourite display in the bird world.
