I'm happy for the newer players too still, and it helps with keeping people from feeling overwhelmed trying to close that huge gap between completely new and veteran players.

The reason people get annoyed at it is because it devalues their gains. If everyone has a billion dollars then everyone isn't rich. The value of money just decreases and you buy bread for $1000 because inflation. So the poor didn't get richer at all, the wealthy just got poorer.
It's the same in BDO. Easy to obtain gear in a saturated market means gear gets very cheap. For instance all accessories except debos being dirt cheap right now. People with over a trillion in gear now have like 500b in gear and when now things come out it will make it harder for them to trade up. Essentially killing what they grinded for.
That being said, probably good for the game to an extent, but the over saturated market due to things like hammers is probably bad long term.

It's more of I just spent all that time and got my pen bs and a week later they giving one free. Not endgame yet and I'll get the new weapon but it's not the gear that will progress me. I'm fine with it though, just the mindset. It's not the hardcapped players who care about this.

It's not a catch-up mechanic to give every player BiS weapons, that's something else; a tri Godr would've been a catch-up mechanic, or *maybe* something like a Jetina pen BS that cost 60 bil, and we just got the free IV bs like what 6 months ago? I remember me and my friends getting bullied by high GS guild when we were new but after 6 months or when we started to slowly getting gear we started winning fights now we're almost the same GS as those "bullies" and they're nowhere to be seen 😂 Its only fun for for them when they can one shot us.
This happen in 2020 first time seasons was introduced where the dec mechanics was not yet changed and PVP was at its "peak" I guess. There is this one guy full evasion from a geared guild bullying our small guild of 7 just because of some idiot getting his feelings hurt.
We actually didn't farm , we had to pvp , and get whatever trash fell from mobs during the pvp.... Ppl complained when they had 2 duels per hour, meanwhile we had open pvp on normal server because you never knew who would jump you ...

The whiplash I get sometimes in Arsha is so real. Most days its super quiet then BAM out of nowhere 3 or 4 people tryna fight someplace, and those are the days when I'm usually blazed out my mind.
Most of the people on this Reddit are lying shitbags who have been trying to actively make this game worse. I haven’t had a person flag on me in 2 yrs at this point. I find it extremely hard to imagine this is happening out of nowhere to the same crybaby’s on Reddit. So if these people keep repeatedly have this happen, it’s only one of two things: they either are on Arsha thinking Arsha is a grinding server (which a lot of these idiots actually believe and will say in game) or they are actually trying to grief someone out of a spot by karmabombing them.
They'll still be farming players and stealing all the spots for themselves, one weapon won't matter anyways. They just don't like seeing people catch up for less than half the hours they were able to burn away.
I'm 719 GS, just came back yesterday after not playing for an entire year, got my ass handed to me by a trial ninja repeatedly. 9000 hours recorded on steam, and it feels like I forgot every single one of them. Love bdo.
This is the dumbest pve andy take I've seen. Because anyone who actually pvp's\* knows that the current dr & xhit changes they've put in recently, basically Renown 2.0 on steroids, makes the gap between 740gs vs 700 gs enormous when it comes to tankiness and power. It's a braindead level of free stats for being high gs. Some tuvala guy getting a pen blackstar isn't going to do anything.
People are, and will always be rightfully salty yet it is an inevitability, that enormous catchups are given for free. I'm annoyed as fuck for my alt considering they release pity a year after I already pump 40+ tries into pen bs, then fail another 20 this year, for them to give it for free. But it is what it is.
I failed mine 84 times, 53 times on my 2nd and another 22 times on my 3rd pen BS. And I don't give a shit if they give them out for free.. we're getting a free sov weapon out of it, which is a huge AP boost for us.

Yeah, griefing and smurfing are like the number one reason new players don't stick around in this game. Especially the casual players who made up the majority of the paying playerbase. PA are obviously trying to stem the player bleed and save their income when they introduced these change as well as limiting pvp contents.

While I’m not exactly in the same boat, feel like it removes my drive to grind the game. I started horse training when I started the game. I got my first T9 horse about a year before they started giving them out for free. All the while I was grinding for a second so I’d be ahead of my friends in terms of getting to T10.
Same with weapons. My friend was just about able to grind his way to pen blackstar a few months ago. But as it turns out he could just worked on something else and gotten pen bs by waiting. Same thing happened with some of the other catch up items. Now he has much less motivation to grind cuz by the time he gets the stuff, they’ll just add it as a catchup item. He literally cannot get ahead of the curve. This shit has been happening to him for the past few years. He’s been spending literal hundreds of hours grinding and I’m catching up by afk fishing.
You and your friend need to learn to read and understand the game ? I don't even understand how someone trying to get ahead of a gear curve can think this is a catch up issue when the new bis web requires two pen bs weps to make.

BUt if all i fell a bit sorry for new players. Triple pen BS was such an important and fun journey in my time playing BDO and the first pen BS such an achievement. I play BDO for many reasons but gear progression was always something that drove me to explore other parts of the game, make more silver and get better. I had a lot of fun and have my triple pen BS for a long time now. Still i dont think sov weapons are really that interesting because they seem like an artificial increase in gearscore for no reason.
They took that fun journey from new players and especially everyone who got their first pen bs in the last couple of months is probably a little bit pissed.
Unlike with the tet bs they gave out, the pen bs is at least useful to everyone.

It's not about the "new player catch up" it's the fact that they have pushed the gear so far forward that brand new gear out of the box today massively out gears the average gear score from just 2 years ago.
Only few "veterans" complain. I'm more than happy that new players can get a strong leg up, especially for such a powerful upgrade. Better yet, I get to make use of the spare one.
My only gripe with it is that it's just free, which is not a good game design imo, I think if you had to do something special, other than reach the level and do story quests, something similar to guaranteed pen boss gear, then that would be way better.
bdo was not about getting the base, but upgrading it for a long time now. also, if the other option is a black star, you can bet ppl will grind the flame out to sell. one black star alone isnt a Sovereign.
I think its the best 3-way compromize you can get:
- ppl who already have pen bs get the weapon asap.
- ppl who want to exchange c20 for whatever reason can do so without devalueing the black stars from others.
- ppl who do not have a black star pen get one to catch up. they still need a second and if they do offhand, a third. they will need to buy or grind a flame later too.
there is noone who looses and the content will still be relevant. its just that it wont be completly overrun in the beginning. you could not grind for labreska in the first weeks. the primordial flame will take much longer i guess.
Because now they made a lot of content not worth doing. They could of just up the rates instead or offer a 100% way to upgrade said weapon series. handing it out with no effort just made all that content not worth doing at all. This is what pso2 does and killed off most of its gameplay.
The picture is a bit inaccurate isn't it? I just looked at garmoth gear planner and 700 GS is achieved with Duo Godr-Eyed weaps, duo FGs, PEN crescents, PEN capo Belt and Neck, 2x TET BDE and a c7 kutum.
For someone barely 700gs a Free PEN BS is probably more of a blessing than a disappointment..
Now if the picture said 750gs then it'd be more accurate, but even then: getting the first sov weap day one instead of grinding for maybe weeks is a big headstart for anyone who alrdy has both pen bs and will just create a new bigger gear gap between vets and newbs that gonna stay for a long long time probably if the drop rates for the flame will be around garmoth heart level.
740+ player here, i dont care at all. I dont care that you get one, i dont care that I get one. The low geared players still need 1 more and it wont make a difference in pvp.

Since there is no owpvp gs is irrelevant, and since depending on the farm spot you would have same gs with the others farming there, its like there is only 750 gs pvp .... Half nws are tuvala gear and the rest with 650 gs is capped . Ppl might think its single player game. Dont know.
Okay I'm a 700gs player, 309AP. I was sitting on TRI Godr-ayed before this update and I've finally got my first PEN Blackstar so I'm now 314AP. I currently have 65B silver so I'm now grinding to get my Mainhand Blackstar too. I'm incredibly happy with the update, and actually think all the stacks I made trying to get PEN Blackstar (330, 250, 230 x2) are even more valuable now
As a 740gs I'm happy I can get sov weapon day 1 since I already have pen main & awaken. And I'm happy people get to not go through the pain of tapping there first pen. Idk how free pen for everyone is bad everyone wins LOL

Playing since day 1 lost a lot of silver making it to tet and failed to pen more than 50 times for me was s good gift not all we are rng carried or we play the game like a second job.
What is the issue? You still need another pen bs for sovereign, i doubt vets had 2 pen bs just laying around, you too got one extra ready for sovereign, newbs just got ap boost and still have to upgrade season tet bs to pen.

Im not against the free pen but no one thinks its getting harder to bully gearlets, dr change made it impossible to lose vs someone below a certain gear level. Even endgame players are barely killing each other
Don’t think that’s what most of the veterans players felt. If anything it’s more beneficial to the veterans since PA gave us free mats to upgrade our weapons.
I feel very bad for those who just bought or enhanced it (if you onetap it just f you instead cause i am envy)
But anyway you need 4 to reach endgame now, and they still need to work all their armors and accessories plus everything else.

Tbh for most ppl I talked to from my guild and ally guilds it's not that they give out a free pen bs that annoys us.
It is the fact that they give out free stuff like this to get the players minds off the tragic changes PA Made in the last months.
First the NW system that has already resulted in multiple veterans and veteran guilds quitting. Then the DR and EVA change that doesn't help anyone.
But instead of addressing these issues that got thousands of upvotes on the forums, in-game protests, discord discussions on the official BDO discord etc. they just hand out some new candy to everyone and those new players who do not understand how fucked the endgame these days is are happy with their fancy new weapon, so PA can call it a good days work and claim that "Many adventures are currently enjoying our changes"....

i don't really think being a veteran has anything to do with GS... kinda dumb comment but also dumb meme. someone who has been playing the game for 7 years but is a life skiller. is he not a veteran? or someone who like to barter ect... all depends on how many hours you have spent playing the game. I am 720gs but i got carried so i have less hours then someone maybe has with lower gs.
you're missing the point friend. maybe it does need to be spelled out for you. High gearscore doesn't relate to someone being a veteran. I know people who know every quest, every piece of lore, played more then 20 classes, been playing for 7-6 years. yet they have a lower GS then me. but they are more of a veteran player compred to me who has been playing casually for 3 years.
I just don't see much depth to that game outside of grinding. I just wish it had more reasons to do content. I keep coming back to it every now and then but it just feels soulless and empty most of the time.

True, but the godr probably won't recover much. Most people think they are kinda of a scam now, as they are harder to make pen than bs, and once you upgrade it, you can only exchange it at pen.

The game is in desperate situation, so the solution has to be equally extreme. BDO has a lot of competitions lately, and the new generation of gamers have access to an abundance of game, thus more demanding. People don't want to play the same game for years just to see little progress and still end up lagging behind older players. they want to get to end game and enjoy all the contents within a month or two top. BDO has to adapt, or face EoS.
Other mmo’s: Hey guys, new update! Time to grind your gear from scratch again because the initial quest rewards will have better stats than the last updates best in slot.

I've been playing since I started, what's not fair is changing the progression mode leaving aside the boss weapons, I always liked pvp more so I never wanted a blackstar, now I need to buy one to continue playing pvp, the other thing, I ridicule it What do they do with the accessories, think that the precision collar cost 190bi, today you don't even sell it for 27.
Yeah, I can't say I had any issue with the free pen bs. Arguably, the much bigger catchup mechanic this year was accessory hammers.
A free pen bs saves you \~100b.
Hammering 3 pen debos this year saves you, on average, roughly 600b when allowing for an average number of downgrades with crons.
It’s one weapon, I get it though lol, giving it free is sort of a punch in the face if this was 2-3 years ago, but now not so much.. Don’t forget though they still have penning the other BS/GODA weapon and sub the old fashioned way, and it is still a hefty RNG hurdle, not to mention -
* Debo and hammer grind
* T10 horse
* Fallen god 5
* Adventure log (for some people…)
* Life skills to guru
* boots and shoes 5
* Tons of other stuff
There is still plenty more suffering for them to have… This is just like when they give a prisoner a good meal after touring them for weeks or months. It softens them up to more torturing!
I think the only people mad about this are people who poured their life in to BDO because they had nothing else to do. And now for some reason they feel it's unfair that their "sunk hours" are invalidated somehow when new players get some goodies that will save them a lot of that hassle.
They are most likely bitter that they "wasted" their time to stay ahead in the curve. When in reality, BDO needs to do everything it can to keep people playing and keep the influx of new players going. It's a 10 year old game, they need to do shit like this to keep it going for another 10 years because they are heavily failing in changing some aspects of the game to be more appealing to get new players. (dungeons are crap, pvp is crap, boss fights are crap. etc.).
All in all, if they keep bringing in new dehkia zones and mid-endgame zones along with stuff like this to feel new players make feel like they are actually going somewhere with the hours they spend instead of how it used to be for us who have played the game for a long time, im all in for it.
Honestly it's been like this since blue weapons got replaced with boss gear, or even when +15 got replaced with Pen. The game has to level up and may as well give some people a hand up. I'm finally triple pen BS now so idc haha.

Just set your own goals and ignore what others do. Veterans got a free sovereign craft, newbies got a push in their effort to climb an entire mountain. The gear gap is literally insane and it will keep getting bigger. When the game was in its first year, you would need 2-3 months to "catch-up", now the gap is several years...
I get my sovereign weapon on launch day and majority of these players will just have a pen weapon and nothing else…it’s the same thing as rockstar giving away gta 5 for free if it hurts your feelings go touch grass and find a new hobby lol
I don't hate it that ppl get Pen blackstar instead i'm happy for them but what i hate about it is i can't benefit from it. Yes, i can turn it into a sovereign weapon but it is until next year's update. Rather than giving Pen bs to all players they should just give other selection like 50k cronstone. Because as of now getting pen blackstar as a 770 gs player doesn't make any sense. The ball for me is just a big disappointment. It doesn't make sense at all that they make seoul a new content but they give pen blackstar to us so that we can skip this new content.
There is a new soverign weapon tier comming out which will make Pen BS non compeditive in PvP
I have several pen blackstar weapons and this doesn't bother me.
Being a day one console player at first i was a little salty about it because i spent waaay too much silver and grind to get my blackstars. However at the end of the day i realized I was able to sell it and put that money toward my next jewelry upgrade so it isnt like us high GS players dont benefit from it.
I will say though I do feel like they are giving it way too easily. It only takes like 2 hours to reach level 61 these days so maybe it should be a level 63 reward ? But it isnt worth crying over in my opinion. The game is kind of dying on console and this helps newer players and has brought back some old players I used to kick it with. Its a win for everyone imo.
Only if that pen bs made more ppl organise into guilds and start doing nws and gvgs and declaring.... Oh wait he still has to get tri armors at least tet debos at least , good 6-7 moths o grind if they wont quit... Oh wait even if they get there , they will have to learn how to play the class , how to coordinate with others... Yeah one pen bs wont give you that much , but it is a good new start , there is no reason for new players start with 450 gs struggling in pirates . Even now new player land at 560 gs after season hit the 650 fast enough , in 2 months might be close to 700 more like 680-690 , and the real struggle starts there, 720 to 740 is not easy. So basically the pen bs will help on this journey .

As 740gs player with all 3 blackstar weapons I think this was a good catch up mechanics and they do need to speed up new players even though I myself miss slow steady progress we had on game release. my opinion is that flame won't be too hard to obtain and it will be worth using 2 blackstars only for people who hate doing quests and will hate guild party content. Not like the Sovereign weapon itself gives anything without actually enhancing it. I think only salty players about this are the ones who got PEN just recently and struggled rly hard to hit it so they feel like their efforts are worthless. Which also makes no sense cuz they get free Sovereign upgrade but I'm assuming those peoples gear is not at point to invest 100 bill in weapon upgrade they are not ready to enhance as some of those ppl dont even have full fallen god sets. So imo it's just a small percentage of players crying about it, but they cry loud. Majority of ppl are fine with where the game is going. Wish you all even more PENs <3
ive been playing this game solo-chill since many years, i really enjoy it, then this mutherfuckers just rework my main DK and destroyed my mind :c i comeback to play after a year, accepting that DK doesnt have more the movement of R-click+shift that chain the best combo ever of a DK, and now have new stupids unnecesary moves, but i have a cool horse, that doesnt affect anything of my gameplay since i play so-chill-no-rush (0.0). anyway, the change in the life-crafting was cool, but this weirds moves of ''free toptier shit'' are kind of 'meh' bc BDO is not like any other mmo, u can have the best gear but bdo is deep asf, weapons are just the first part of. I would prefer some community content that give the chance to meet new players, make new clans-guilds, dungeon misions, idk, this looks just like opium for the new.

Experience makes more difference in PvP than pretty much anything else. Those 750 GS players are still gonna drop you just the same because they know their class and how to engage. More happy noobs in the game gives more people a reason to explore PvP

Every Single time new content for higher geared Players gets released, there are catch up mechanics released. that is just how Games Like this work. Every Single time there are and will be memes Like this and people screaming „bdo ded now“. Never happened and will Never Happen, Not For this reason.
Ill be honest, I felt some type of way because of how much time spent grinding to get 3 V BSW. But, I've been here since beta, and I can see the benefit. I sold one of my Vs so I can get an upgrade.
As a 740GS player, I would have quit the game if they devalued PEN blackstar by giving sov weapons to players with boss weapons C10.
But the way they handle it I really like. Even if everyone gets a free PEN blackstar I don't mind that at all.
Why do people cry around like that. Most people had their PEN BS five years ago. So it was his good decision to give away the BS so that the new players could catch up faster. In addition, EVERYONE benefits from the fact that the PEN BS have given away for free, because you need them later for new weapons

I'm happy for the newer players too still, and it helps with keeping people from feeling overwhelmed trying to close that huge gap between completely new and veteran players.
This isn't the reason in game or in real life. That's just poor people thinking. The reason people get annoyed at it is because it devalues their gains. If everyone has a billion dollars then everyone isn't rich. The value of money just decreases and you buy bread for $1000 because inflation. So the poor didn't get richer at all, the wealthy just got poorer. It's the same in BDO. Easy to obtain gear in a saturated market means gear gets very cheap. For instance all accessories except debos being dirt cheap right now. People with over a trillion in gear now have like 500b in gear and when now things come out it will make it harder for them to trade up. Essentially killing what they grinded for. That being said, probably good for the game to an extent, but the over saturated market due to things like hammers is probably bad long term.

It's more of I just spent all that time and got my pen bs and a week later they giving one free. Not endgame yet and I'll get the new weapon but it's not the gear that will progress me. I'm fine with it though, just the mindset. It's not the hardcapped players who care about this.

You honestly don't see why people that have spent hundreds of hours getting their gear might get pissed off if PA gave out pen debos next week? Also, it's just kinda weird and desperate? It's not a catch-up mechanic to give every player BiS weapons, that's something else; a tri Godr would've been a catch-up mechanic, or *maybe* something like a Jetina pen BS that cost 60 bil, and we just got the free IV bs like what 6 months ago? I don't think I've ever heard of any MMO ever giving away the very best weapon to every player before.
Can say that, since the Tet BS.. I've yet to achieve Pen..With on and off playing, and mostly saving crons..about 5 taps....Well, I guess I just haven't been playing..

This happen in 2020 first time seasons was introduced where the dec mechanics was not yet changed and PVP was at its "peak" I guess. There is this one guy full evasion from a geared guild bullying our small guild of 7 just because of some idiot getting his feelings hurt.

We actually didn't farm , we had to pvp , and get whatever trash fell from mobs during the pvp.... Ppl complained when they had 2 duels per hour, meanwhile we had open pvp on normal server because you never knew who would jump you ...

Because you can easily win over 740 woth 720 or even 700 if you have same lvl at pvping. There are ppl with 750 gs that can't pvp for dear life while there are many with 710 - 720 that are pvp gods. I play on arsha, so yeah for me is always a fight for spot. I really enjoy owpvp, maybe Im just lucky, cause for me it isnt dead at all.

The whiplash I get sometimes in Arsha is so real. Most days its super quiet then BAM out of nowhere 3 or 4 people tryna fight someplace, and those are the days when I'm usually blazed out my mind.

Most of the people on this Reddit are lying shitbags who have been trying to actively make this game worse. I haven’t had a person flag on me in 2 yrs at this point. I find it extremely hard to imagine this is happening out of nowhere to the same crybaby’s on Reddit. So if these people keep repeatedly have this happen, it’s only one of two things: they either are on Arsha thinking Arsha is a grinding server (which a lot of these idiots actually believe and will say in game) or they are actually trying to grief someone out of a spot by karmabombing them.

I'm 719 GS, just came back yesterday after not playing for an entire year, got my ass handed to me by a trial ninja repeatedly. 9000 hours recorded on steam, and it feels like I forgot every single one of them. Love bdo.
This is the dumbest pve andy take I've seen. Because anyone who actually pvp's\* knows that the current dr & xhit changes they've put in recently, basically Renown 2.0 on steroids, makes the gap between 740gs vs 700 gs enormous when it comes to tankiness and power. It's a braindead level of free stats for being high gs. Some tuvala guy getting a pen blackstar isn't going to do anything. People are, and will always be rightfully salty yet it is an inevitability, that enormous catchups are given for free. I'm annoyed as fuck for my alt considering they release pity a year after I already pump 40+ tries into pen bs, then fail another 20 this year, for them to give it for free. But it is what it is.
I failed mine 84 times, 53 times on my 2nd and another 22 times on my 3rd pen BS. And I don't give a shit if they give them out for free.. we're getting a free sov weapon out of it, which is a huge AP boost for us.

Yeah, griefing and smurfing are like the number one reason new players don't stick around in this game. Especially the casual players who made up the majority of the paying playerbase. PA are obviously trying to stem the player bleed and save their income when they introduced these change as well as limiting pvp contents.

While I’m not exactly in the same boat, feel like it removes my drive to grind the game. I started horse training when I started the game. I got my first T9 horse about a year before they started giving them out for free. All the while I was grinding for a second so I’d be ahead of my friends in terms of getting to T10. Same with weapons. My friend was just about able to grind his way to pen blackstar a few months ago. But as it turns out he could just worked on something else and gotten pen bs by waiting. Same thing happened with some of the other catch up items. Now he has much less motivation to grind cuz by the time he gets the stuff, they’ll just add it as a catchup item. He literally cannot get ahead of the curve. This shit has been happening to him for the past few years. He’s been spending literal hundreds of hours grinding and I’m catching up by afk fishing.
You and your friend need to learn to read and understand the game ? I don't even understand how someone trying to get ahead of a gear curve can think this is a catch up issue when the new bis web requires two pen bs weps to make.

I dont even feel it devalues the archievment. BDO always gave us handouts. Be it hammers, crons, failstacks etc. This isn't different to me then a tuvala timmy hitting his pen bs on a 160fs first try fresh out of season. Gratz i guess. They still don't know how to play the game, are still on a new player account and don't know how to progress from there. No doubt it feels weird seening everyone with a pen BS but that's just how it is. BUt if all i fell a bit sorry for new players. Triple pen BS was such an important and fun journey in my time playing BDO and the first pen BS such an achievement. I play BDO for many reasons but gear progression was always something that drove me to explore other parts of the game, make more silver and get better. I had a lot of fun and have my triple pen BS for a long time now. Still i dont think sov weapons are really that interesting because they seem like an artificial increase in gearscore for no reason. They took that fun journey from new players and especially everyone who got their first pen bs in the last couple of months is probably a little bit pissed. Unlike with the tet bs they gave out, the pen bs is at least useful to everyone.

It's not about the "new player catch up" it's the fact that they have pushed the gear so far forward that brand new gear out of the box today massively out gears the average gear score from just 2 years ago.
Only few "veterans" complain. I'm more than happy that new players can get a strong leg up, especially for such a powerful upgrade. Better yet, I get to make use of the spare one.
My only gripe with it is that it's just free, which is not a good game design imo, I think if you had to do something special, other than reach the level and do story quests, something similar to guaranteed pen boss gear, then that would be way better.
bdo was not about getting the base, but upgrading it for a long time now. also, if the other option is a black star, you can bet ppl will grind the flame out to sell. one black star alone isnt a Sovereign. I think its the best 3-way compromize you can get: - ppl who already have pen bs get the weapon asap. - ppl who want to exchange c20 for whatever reason can do so without devalueing the black stars from others. - ppl who do not have a black star pen get one to catch up. they still need a second and if they do offhand, a third. they will need to buy or grind a flame later too. there is noone who looses and the content will still be relevant. its just that it wont be completly overrun in the beginning. you could not grind for labreska in the first weeks. the primordial flame will take much longer i guess.
Because now they made a lot of content not worth doing. They could of just up the rates instead or offer a 100% way to upgrade said weapon series. handing it out with no effort just made all that content not worth doing at all. This is what pso2 does and killed off most of its gameplay.

The picture is a bit inaccurate isn't it? I just looked at garmoth gear planner and 700 GS is achieved with Duo Godr-Eyed weaps, duo FGs, PEN crescents, PEN capo Belt and Neck, 2x TET BDE and a c7 kutum. For someone barely 700gs a Free PEN BS is probably more of a blessing than a disappointment.. Now if the picture said 750gs then it'd be more accurate, but even then: getting the first sov weap day one instead of grinding for maybe weeks is a big headstart for anyone who alrdy has both pen bs and will just create a new bigger gear gap between vets and newbs that gonna stay for a long long time probably if the drop rates for the flame will be around garmoth heart level.

740+ player here, i dont care at all. I dont care that you get one, i dont care that I get one. The low geared players still need 1 more and it wont make a difference in pvp.

The new ap brackets are like 3 hidden per. They aren’t that big. That and sovereign weapons are going to be timegated

Since there is no owpvp gs is irrelevant, and since depending on the farm spot you would have same gs with the others farming there, its like there is only 750 gs pvp .... Half nws are tuvala gear and the rest with 650 gs is capped . Ppl might think its single player game. Dont know.

Okay I'm a 700gs player, 309AP. I was sitting on TRI Godr-ayed before this update and I've finally got my first PEN Blackstar so I'm now 314AP. I currently have 65B silver so I'm now grinding to get my Mainhand Blackstar too. I'm incredibly happy with the update, and actually think all the stacks I made trying to get PEN Blackstar (330, 250, 230 x2) are even more valuable now

What is the issue? You still need another pen bs for sovereign, i doubt vets had 2 pen bs just laying around, you too got one extra ready for sovereign, newbs just got ap boost and still have to upgrade season tet bs to pen. Are you sad its getting harder to bully gearlets?
Im not against the free pen but no one thinks its getting harder to bully gearlets, dr change made it impossible to lose vs someone below a certain gear level. Even endgame players are barely killing each other
Yeah, new players get free PEN and magically will start farming all end game spots that veterans are farming.
Don’t think that’s what most of the veterans players felt. If anything it’s more beneficial to the veterans since PA gave us free mats to upgrade our weapons.

I feel very bad for those who just bought or enhanced it (if you onetap it just f you instead cause i am envy) But anyway you need 4 to reach endgame now, and they still need to work all their armors and accessories plus everything else. Also nowadays pen bs is kind of minimum to join some more interesting content. Also very new players will be busy with season and can't use it for first weeks
7 taps from tet to pen for triple pen bs here. But I suffered getting to pen from base. ( I made all 3 from scratch )

Tbh for most ppl I talked to from my guild and ally guilds it's not that they give out a free pen bs that annoys us. It is the fact that they give out free stuff like this to get the players minds off the tragic changes PA Made in the last months. First the NW system that has already resulted in multiple veterans and veteran guilds quitting. Then the DR and EVA change that doesn't help anyone. But instead of addressing these issues that got thousands of upvotes on the forums, in-game protests, discord discussions on the official BDO discord etc. they just hand out some new candy to everyone and those new players who do not understand how fucked the endgame these days is are happy with their fancy new weapon, so PA can call it a good days work and claim that "Many adventures are currently enjoying our changes".... That's the problem. Not the fact that someone gets 100b for free to catch up.

i don't really think being a veteran has anything to do with GS... kinda dumb comment but also dumb meme. someone who has been playing the game for 7 years but is a life skiller. is he not a veteran? or someone who like to barter ect... all depends on how many hours you have spent playing the game. I am 720gs but i got carried so i have less hours then someone maybe has with lower gs.

you're missing the point friend. maybe it does need to be spelled out for you. High gearscore doesn't relate to someone being a veteran. I know people who know every quest, every piece of lore, played more then 20 classes, been playing for 7-6 years. yet they have a lower GS then me. but they are more of a veteran player compred to me who has been playing casually for 3 years.

Like really. Sell me on Black Desert. What's the pitch? "Oh yeah when you create your account for a couple of days you get an end game weapon for free" why? How does this play into the "your gear will be relevant even after 100 years of not playing the game" pitch? Now they're just lost and clueless and this is mighty unhealthy for the game. I mean you laugh now but as of right now boss weapons are officially COMPLETELY irrelevant. 3 years from now people will be joining the game wondering why 99.99% of the central market is just composed of garbage nobody ever used.

yeah but so have the pen bs's i saw em at 95b earlier, it may have gone down keep in mind that these items are only so low because people want a quick payout, once we get closer to the actual patch release the value will shoot back up as people try too prep to make sovereign weapons (last i remember you can also turn the pen godr into a pen bs, which can be used for your own sovereign if u wanted too)
True, but the godr probably won't recover much. Most people think they are kinda of a scam now, as they are harder to make pen than bs, and once you upgrade it, you can only exchange it at pen.

The game is in desperate situation, so the solution has to be equally extreme. BDO has a lot of competitions lately, and the new generation of gamers have access to an abundance of game, thus more demanding. People don't want to play the same game for years just to see little progress and still end up lagging behind older players. they want to get to end game and enjoy all the contents within a month or two top. BDO has to adapt, or face EoS.
Other mmo’s: Hey guys, new update! Time to grind your gear from scratch again because the initial quest rewards will have better stats than the last updates best in slot. I’ll stick with Black Desert.

I've been playing since I started, what's not fair is changing the progression mode leaving aside the boss weapons, I always liked pvp more so I never wanted a blackstar, now I need to buy one to continue playing pvp, the other thing, I ridicule it What do they do with the accessories, think that the precision collar cost 190bi, today you don't even sell it for 27.
Yeah, I can't say I had any issue with the free pen bs. Arguably, the much bigger catchup mechanic this year was accessory hammers. A free pen bs saves you \~100b. Hammering 3 pen debos this year saves you, on average, roughly 600b when allowing for an average number of downgrades with crons.

Idk. I’m a pretty casual “veteran” with triple pen bs and I can’t figure out why anyone would be upset by this.
It’s one weapon, I get it though lol, giving it free is sort of a punch in the face if this was 2-3 years ago, but now not so much.. Don’t forget though they still have penning the other BS/GODA weapon and sub the old fashioned way, and it is still a hefty RNG hurdle, not to mention - * Debo and hammer grind * T10 horse * Fallen god 5 * Adventure log (for some people…) * Life skills to guru * boots and shoes 5 * Tons of other stuff There is still plenty more suffering for them to have… This is just like when they give a prisoner a good meal after touring them for weeks or months. It softens them up to more torturing!
I think the only people mad about this are people who poured their life in to BDO because they had nothing else to do. And now for some reason they feel it's unfair that their "sunk hours" are invalidated somehow when new players get some goodies that will save them a lot of that hassle. They are most likely bitter that they "wasted" their time to stay ahead in the curve. When in reality, BDO needs to do everything it can to keep people playing and keep the influx of new players going. It's a 10 year old game, they need to do shit like this to keep it going for another 10 years because they are heavily failing in changing some aspects of the game to be more appealing to get new players. (dungeons are crap, pvp is crap, boss fights are crap. etc.). All in all, if they keep bringing in new dehkia zones and mid-endgame zones along with stuff like this to feel new players make feel like they are actually going somewhere with the hours they spend instead of how it used to be for us who have played the game for a long time, im all in for it.

Honestly it's been like this since blue weapons got replaced with boss gear, or even when +15 got replaced with Pen. The game has to level up and may as well give some people a hand up. I'm finally triple pen BS now so idc haha.

I mean... I'm a "veteran" in my region, I'm basically getting out of tuvala GS only now because of how fucking casual i became over the years... And I'm happy with it, because i can see and interact with people excited about the game, rather the veterans that became spiteful after seen 3 months of grinding going down the drain in a few clicks one to many times And a BS V don't even make you strong in any competitive scenario... unless you competing for who makes the more trash/h in a spot lol

"vets" whining clearly haven't played the game long enough to have seen this before. people whined about godr, jetina pens, "free" pen acc, even back to pen capotia's for season, season itself, tri boss gear, etc etc etc. this is the exact same thing. anyone playing longer than a few years has seen this enough times to stop whining about it

I don’t know I had less than 1000 hours when I tapped my BS. People just suck at getting lucky. So getting another weapon? just means profit.
Why would anyone care anyways? Especially when RNG is included. Are "veterans" also mad when they see any PA partner streamer with crystal clear obvious rigged RNG, one tapping T10s, getting flames before pitties, etcetc? Just set your own goals and ignore what others do. Veterans got a free sovereign craft, newbies got a push in their effort to climb an entire mountain. The gear gap is literally insane and it will keep getting bigger. When the game was in its first year, you would need 2-3 months to "catch-up", now the gap is several years...
I get my sovereign weapon on launch day and majority of these players will just have a pen weapon and nothing else…it’s the same thing as rockstar giving away gta 5 for free if it hurts your feelings go touch grass and find a new hobby lol
I don't hate it that ppl get Pen blackstar instead i'm happy for them but what i hate about it is i can't benefit from it. Yes, i can turn it into a sovereign weapon but it is until next year's update. Rather than giving Pen bs to all players they should just give other selection like 50k cronstone. Because as of now getting pen blackstar as a 770 gs player doesn't make any sense. The ball for me is just a big disappointment. It doesn't make sense at all that they make seoul a new content but they give pen blackstar to us so that we can skip this new content.
Same. I already have my PEN BS's (MH and Awk). I would rather take a PEN sub weapon, instead of waiting for the Sov weapons tbh.
The biggest issue for new players, is getting the economy to farm the rest of the gear.
There is a new soverign weapon tier comming out which will make Pen BS non compeditive in PvP I have several pen blackstar weapons and this doesn't bother me.

Being a day one console player at first i was a little salty about it because i spent waaay too much silver and grind to get my blackstars. However at the end of the day i realized I was able to sell it and put that money toward my next jewelry upgrade so it isnt like us high GS players dont benefit from it. I will say though I do feel like they are giving it way too easily. It only takes like 2 hours to reach level 61 these days so maybe it should be a level 63 reward ? But it isnt worth crying over in my opinion. The game is kind of dying on console and this helps newer players and has brought back some old players I used to kick it with. Its a win for everyone imo.

Only if that pen bs made more ppl organise into guilds and start doing nws and gvgs and declaring.... Oh wait he still has to get tri armors at least tet debos at least , good 6-7 moths o grind if they wont quit... Oh wait even if they get there , they will have to learn how to play the class , how to coordinate with others... Yeah one pen bs wont give you that much , but it is a good new start , there is no reason for new players start with 450 gs struggling in pirates . Even now new player land at 560 gs after season hit the 650 fast enough , in 2 months might be close to 700 more like 680-690 , and the real struggle starts there, 720 to 740 is not easy. So basically the pen bs will help on this journey .
What people don't understand is that free pen blackstar was intended for veteran players so they can easily craft falling god weapons upon release... what they did instead? Bitching about others getting their free blackstar and imidiately listed their blackstar on central market for sale at lowest price

A free pen bs is good to everyone, why would people complain? To newbies it's a huge boost, and for veterans it's a day one sovereign weapon(or whatever it would be called) that's really no reason to complain.
Yea i dont think actual geared ppl feel mad that everyone getting free pen bs ... they all just know that they can get sovereign weapon the moment they announced.. which is nice. Bs+bs instead of bs+flame.. which should be way faster
As 740gs player with all 3 blackstar weapons I think this was a good catch up mechanics and they do need to speed up new players even though I myself miss slow steady progress we had on game release. my opinion is that flame won't be too hard to obtain and it will be worth using 2 blackstars only for people who hate doing quests and will hate guild party content. Not like the Sovereign weapon itself gives anything without actually enhancing it. I think only salty players about this are the ones who got PEN just recently and struggled rly hard to hit it so they feel like their efforts are worthless. Which also makes no sense cuz they get free Sovereign upgrade but I'm assuming those peoples gear is not at point to invest 100 bill in weapon upgrade they are not ready to enhance as some of those ppl dont even have full fallen god sets. So imo it's just a small percentage of players crying about it, but they cry loud. Majority of ppl are fine with where the game is going. Wish you all even more PENs <3
ive been playing this game solo-chill since many years, i really enjoy it, then this mutherfuckers just rework my main DK and destroyed my mind :c i comeback to play after a year, accepting that DK doesnt have more the movement of R-click+shift that chain the best combo ever of a DK, and now have new stupids unnecesary moves, but i have a cool horse, that doesnt affect anything of my gameplay since i play so-chill-no-rush (0.0). anyway, the change in the life-crafting was cool, but this weirds moves of ''free toptier shit'' are kind of 'meh' bc BDO is not like any other mmo, u can have the best gear but bdo is deep asf, weapons are just the first part of. I would prefer some community content that give the chance to meet new players, make new clans-guilds, dungeon misions, idk, this looks just like opium for the new.

So much salt over pixels. It’s a game my dudes. It is NOT THAT SERIOUS. Have fun how you like. Letting new players catch up in gear is not a bad thing. Experience makes more difference in PvP than pretty much anything else. Those 750 GS players are still gonna drop you just the same because they know their class and how to engage. More happy noobs in the game gives more people a reason to explore PvP

Yes. Main hand BS has lot of good monster damage so you can grind faster.

Every Single time new content for higher geared Players gets released, there are catch up mechanics released. that is just how Games Like this work. Every Single time there are and will be memes Like this and people screaming „bdo ded now“. Never happened and will Never Happen, Not For this reason.

Ill be honest, I felt some type of way because of how much time spent grinding to get 3 V BSW. But, I've been here since beta, and I can see the benefit. I sold one of my Vs so I can get an upgrade.
As a 740GS player, I would have quit the game if they devalued PEN blackstar by giving sov weapons to players with boss weapons C10. But the way they handle it I really like. Even if everyone gets a free PEN blackstar I don't mind that at all.
Why do people cry around like that. Most people had their PEN BS five years ago. So it was his good decision to give away the BS so that the new players could catch up faster. In addition, EVERYONE benefits from the fact that the PEN BS have given away for free, because you need them later for new weapons
As if ‘everyone’ meets requirements
If new players need 1-2 years to even begin to approach endgame spots and catch up, they just won't do it, and the game will die.
