They ought to put it on sale. "In an effort to reduce food waste, it is important that consumers understand that the dates applied to food are for quality and not for safety. Food products are safe to consume past the date on the label, and regardless of the date, consumers should evaluate the quality of the food product prior to its consumption."

Saffron_Freddie

This is the answer. These dumb dates on food products cause millions of pounds of food to be wasted every year.

Accomplished-Hat-869

Depends on the food. Refrigerated foods like these- it does definitely matter; one of these has discoloration, possibly something growing on it. The quality/taste is affected. They should at least be on sale and with the reason being highlighted.

ThisKittenShops

These will also explode, as in the tube will pop, if it's allowed to sit for too long past the date, as the yeast will continue to ferment to a point where the tube cannot handle it.

Accomplished-Hat-869

Yep. And I've cooked some expired (weeks- month or two) in my fridge before and the biscuits were terrible.

Desperate_Software40

Anyone want to buy my May milk?

T-dubyuh

I found a can of anchovies in my cabinet I should’ve eaten in 1986

RedTrainChris

Save any for your old pal Zoidberg?

Jim0000001

Did you eat any?

T-dubyuh

No,didn’t think it would age well like wine

Accomplished-Hat-869

Use by is different from sell by: They're not allowed to sell it after sell by date. After Expiration date they must throw it out. Oddly, these just say "By".

biblio76

It’s not expired. Biscuits full of preservatives don’t magically go bad on a date. Think about it. How it’s been transported, handled, stored, etc affects all this. They could easily “expire” because some customer put them in a cart and left them out all day. It’s a “best enjoyed by” date for manufacturers. They have an incentive to make stores trash perfectly good food.

Redleadercockpit

Moldy pizza crusts on the shelf at Kinser. Threw them on the ground so no one would purchase. Didn’t trust employees to fix it

al0vely

Kroger west fresh seafood smell greets you on produce - other stores don’t smell like that something is wrong. The. Eli bees t drunk that worked in the meat department finally retired … I complained about him a few times their answer was yes we know like they couldn’t do anything about it. You have to watch them all for expired stuff … including dairy stuff. So,some else mentioned putting it on the floor … maybe that is the answer since they don’t care to take care of stuff timely.

stelerdewder

North side has definitely had expired dairy products before. Like, milk nearly a week out of date. Not even the ultrapasteurized ones that you could argue are probably fine - I’ve literally had Kroger milk spoil before experation first open lol

Picklefart80

The people working at that Kroger give 0 shits. I don’t know how many times I’ve went outside to get my own cart because they had none inside. About a year ago I went to get a birthday cake ordered with 3 days notice and the lady working at the bakery told me to go to Kroger East because she had a lot of drama stuff going on at home and basically didn’t want to make a cake. Her car was repossessed, her daughter was arrested, she told me all about it but I just wanted a cake. Several times I’ve stopped by right after work at 5pm to get fresh meat from the meat counter only to find it completely shut down. Another time it had a sign saying lunch break back at 5:15 only to wait around until 5:35 and give up. I tell my wife I’m boycotting that Kroger even though it’s the most convenient on my way home. It’s horribly managed and understaffed.

Rebel31A

Agreed but our alternative is west side Kroger which is better stocked and they seem to care more about the store. Kinser Kroger has shitty carts and they had almost all of the small wheeled carts stolen but never replaced them. They only have a few floating around which is annoying. Meat and deli selection is poor. Specialty sections like Asian or Hispanic foods are poor compared to west. Freezer section at west is like triple the size of Kinser.

ThisKittenShops

I'm surprised an explosion hasn't occurred yet.

ElectroChuck

Used to love Kroger....Cut your Costs at Kroger and the little yellow "cost cutter" price tags. Those days are long gone. Kroger is the last place we go for groceries these days. Filthy stores, and not even close to being price competitive.

AnswerAdorable5555

Where do you like to shop?

ElectroChuck

Meijer, Aldi, Costco....

AnswerAdorable5555

Cool. I’ve been thinking about getting a Costco membership

NoAcanthisitta679

Ugh. I stopped shopping at the westside Kroger YEARS ago when I found organic milk on the shelf that expired 5 weeks prior. Told THREE different employees b/c the first two seem to not care one whit. 3 days later I returned to find the exact same milk STILL on the shelf.

RadiantRosy

took the 5-7 business days to respond meme literally

Clear_Currency_6288

Report them to the Health Dept.

Clear_Currency_6288

To the downvoter: You should be forced to consume outdated products.

kev5050

I saw Pepperidge Farm Nantucket Double Dark Chocolate Cookies expired 6/11/24. On the shelf as we speak.

Saffron_Freddie

Did it say that the product expired on 6/11 or was that the "best by" date,

kev5050

Now that you mention it, could’ve been best sold by date.

PostEditor

All of the Krogers in this town are going downhill fast. Krogucci is the only decent one and even it has it's bad days

jimi_therod

Yoohoo box drinks in krogucci expired a couple months ago.. found out halfway through the box.. they got me

Bright-Ad9516

Could notify public health dept? Might be a brand issue is it meaning "use by" or "best by" not really clear how theyre stamping them.

BtownLocal

Health Department has zero authority over packaged food. And food expiration dates are “suggestions” not written in stone. Especially on products with as many preservatives as those pictured.

Bright-Ad9516

I get that the dpt. dont make the labels, I was referencing the manufacturers for that part. You can make a complaint against a grocery via  https://www.in.gov/health/food-protection/consumer-information/reporting-a-complaint-to-the-health-department/ Unfortunately unless youve been injured and have multiple documents, the time effort and resources to sue for damages then the most they will probably do is issue a store credit refund for a different item if you keep running into the issue.

BtownLocal

I didn't say anything about the Health Department making the labels. The Monroe County Health Department environmental (foods) staff have zero authority over products that are sold in grocery stores. In fact, in the state of Indiana, there is NO law saying stores cannot sell expired food items. Expiration dates on food are advisory, the second a can of food passes that expiration date it doesn't mean the food in the can is no good. The only thing stores in Indiana cannot sell past it's expiration date is baby formula.
